ICal reminders won't go away

When I have a reminder set to go off for an event in iCal, it goes off.
I dismiss it, but it keeps coming back and reminding me later again and again, even when I hit the "dismiss" X button on the reminder window.
Any thoughts on this?

Mine just started doing this since upgrading to 10.6.3. It always reminds again when I wake from sleep. Funny, my automatic backup "Apple Backup" always triggers when I wake up now as well. It's supposed to be 7am but happens when I wake up. Bizarre.

  • Lost Reminders won't go away

When I activated iCloud on the iPhone 4S I lost all my reminders.
Fine, but now when I ask Siri to 'Show me my reminders" it actually finds those missing reminders, even though they aren't visible in the Reminders app  itself.
Also, when I do a search in the Reminders app using a common letter (such as a vowel) the missing reminders show up in the results.
So how do I get all these phantom reminders off my iPhone?
(The missing reminders don't show up in the iCloud web application. )

Here's a way to resolve this problem, found since the post:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16443818#16443818
    SUMMARY:
Basically, you turn off Reminders in iCloud on the iPhone and select to delete your Reminders. The phantom reminders are now visible and you must delete all the ones you don't want, one by one.
Now, turn Reminders back on in iCloud. All the different lists you had before the first step should reappear, minus the phantom reminders you deleted.

  • ICal alarm won't go away

I'm having a strange problem with alarms in Mail. I created an alarm on a calendar over a year ago. The event hasn't happened for a year. My problem is that it shows up endlessly in Drafts in iCal. I deleted the whole calendar in iCal yesterday, but it still exists in Mail.
Any ideas on how to get rid of it?

    baronpilot,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Nothing so far has worked.
Could you clarify your troubleshooting steps...what have you tried so far?
In the meantime since I do not know what you have tried:
The first and easiest troubleshooting step involves replacing/refreshing the com.apple.iCal.plist file.
Quit iCal and find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Drag the file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart and check iCal for normal behavior.

  • Ical reminders list won't sort on iphone

ICal Reminders won't sort on the actual device it was intended for - the Iphone
I just talked to Apple Express service over this problem.  I went to the trouble of transferring my to-do list onto icloud Reminders - where each item asked for a priority ranking and where you are then given options for how to sort  all the Reminders you entered - so that it can actually be useable as any Calendar/time management system would be.   I chose "by priority" of course, but you can also choose alphabetically, etc.  It must be said, at least to Apple, apparently, that the point of doing all this is so that the Reminders are available on your actual device - my iphone.  The Reminders all synced immediately to the Iphone.  However, the Reminders list is an unsorted jumble on my iphone.  Even when I tap out a Reminder on my iphone itself and choose a priority, the item remains at the bottom of the list as the last thing I typed in.  Apple Express Support "explains" that the priority ranking and the sorting choices are "not supported" on the device you want to use them on - the iphone.   They offered me "an article" that explains this in detail.   In other words, engaging with the Reminder function and choosing priorities and choosing sort orders is all just a cruel joke wasting your time.  I would have been better off just printing off my Reminders list on paper and circling the high priority items in red ink.  Oh - but you can't print it out either.
Unbelieveable.  Apple's ICal Reminder function actually and actively leads you to engage with completing details and choices that don't even function, or in other words - aren't "supported" on the Apple device they are stated to be designed for.  Is there a device on which this function is actually supported?  "Not at this time"
The only way to have your to-do list sorted on the iphone is to assign a calendar date for each one of them and then they only appear on that specific date.  You would not be able to view your whole list in anything other than the order you happened to enter the items.  No calendar/time management system I know of makes you put a date on every item in a  task list - some tasks have a due date, but most don't.  And every calendar/time management system allows you to sort your list, or view your list in a sorted order.   And print it out also.
Apple advertises this Icloud Ical/Reminders system as a time managment tool and fails to tell us that vital functions don't even work on your iphone.

    Hello Christiansted,
    Welcome to the Discussions Boards.
In addition to shuffle, you probably have repeat enabled. When you tap the screen or cover art while playing a song, the scrubber bar has the Shuffle button at the right end and the Repeat button at the left end.
If the circular arrows are blue, it will repeat the album or playlist.
If the circular arrows have a small number 1 on them, it will only repeat one song
If they are white, Repeat is off.
The User's Guide explains this on page 63:

    Hope that helps,

  • Reminders Notifications in Mountain Lion latest update keeps freezing on my homescreen and won't go away when trying to close. Please help.

Reminders Notifications in Mountain Lion latest update keeps freezing on my homescreen and won't go away when trying to close. Please help.
I'm using a 2009 Macbook Pro and have installed the lastest update 10.8.1

I've been seeing this for some time now and getting quite sick of it. It happens when I've been away at work for the day and come home to find frozen notifications.
You can fix this temporarily by quitting Notification Centre from Activity Monitor but it keeps happening to me every week or so.

    Hi,

Please can anyone with a similar experience tell me what to do in this situation?

Have you tried a hard restart. Press the on/off button and homescreen buttons together until the device shuts down.

  • After IOS 8 update, bookmark bar won't go away

After upgrading to IOS 8 on my iPad 2, in landscape mode in Safari, the bookmarks bar, now combined with links and "Reading List", won't go away. I believe it is supposed to go away when you select one of the functions, such as bookmark, so that the tab turns blue, then hit it again. It doesn't. I can turn it to portrait mode to make it go away, but I'd like to use landscape mode without losing a third of the screen to bookmarks.

Apple knows what's good for you - how dare you criticizing their benevolent parental guidance?
Jokes aside, I'm also a little bit puzzled that there's no option to choose between the "toggle on-off" setting in landscape mode and the fade out one as in portrait In Safari's settings. But there's actually some kind of workaround I'm now using most of the time in landscape mode:
When tapping the URL address bar your bookmarks will also show above the virtual keyboard as they do when Safari doesn't have any websites opened. As soon as one taps into that bookmark window to scroll or directly click a bookmark the keyboard disappears again. It may not be a perfect method, especially when bookmarks aren't organized in folders, because the top level bookmarks are displayed as rather largish icons. But those contained in a folder will actually display as a drop-down list (can be scrolled when having a large number of entries) similar to the normal bookmarks list. Once a bookmark has been clicked everything fades out and you're taken to the selected site. As my bookmarks are almost exclusively in folders such as "News", "Sports", "Tech" etc. I've come to appreciate this kind of bookmark navigation much more than through the standard bookmarks menu with its annoying behavior in landscape mode.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • How do I get rid of the blue "downloading the latest applications" bar which won't go away even after uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox?

Can't get rid of the blue "downloading the latest applications" bar that seems to be just hanging and won't go away. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but the bar is still there after 2 days. I updated something (can't remember what!) on I.E., and it had the same blue bar, but it had a box I could x out of so it went away on I.E. I don't know why the blue bar is there on Firefox, as I did the update while on I.E.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I updated an application while on Internet Explorer.

    Annette,
#In the menu bar, at the top of the Firefox window, Go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions.
    # Locate ''each ''of the following extensions by name and click the disable button
#Restart Firefox as prompted and see if the undesired toolbar has been removed.
#The extensions to disable are: '''Crawler Toolbar''', '''MP3 Rocket Toolbar''', '''MSN Toolbar''', '''Search Helper Extension'''
If you don't need some / all of those toolbars, consider leaving them disabled.
You can probably remove these toolbars permanently from Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.

  • Ghost Rental in my IPOD Video Library...there's a video that I rented that won't go away...how to remove?

I rented a video on my ipod, watched it, and now it won't go away.  I can't rewatch it either.  When I sync, it is not on the computer as far as rentals.  Can anyone help me remove this?

See if you have enabled 'VoiceOver'…
Open Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accessibility, select VoiceOver in the sidebar list, disable that if it is enabled. You may also see a keyboard shortcut listed there (e.g. cmd+F5), it's possible you hit that accidentally

  • Game Center won't go away

So, a while ago, I jailbroke my iPod. It was going well, but then I installed something that made me reset my iPod. Okay, that's fine and dandy, everything's fine, reset and looks fine. But now my iPod won't open calendar or mail, play videos, or let me sign into Game Center. I wouldn't normally care about this, but whenever I open a game that has GC, the pop up comes up and no matter what I do, It won't go away. I've clicked the "Cancel" button more times than I can count, and signing in will just go on forever (literally, I left it signing in for an entire day and nothing happened). I've also tried the "Click the cancel button, close the app and do it again" method. But that doesn't do anything.
I'd like to be able to play my games that have gamecenter without having to go into airplane mode or go somewhere where there isn't wifi. It limits my ability to play where I want, and my ability to make online purchases, as well as play online with my friends.
Does someone know of a way that you can disable Game Center without actually using the app or the iPod?
    Thanks,
    -Silent
P.S: I've already tried to restore my iPod a second time to see if that would work; iTunes wouldn't let me.

Then you are on your own

  • Help! Random blue screen appears and won't go away also getting glitches.

    Hello,
So recently a blue screen has been randomly appearing taking up the whole screen, it won't go away until I hold down the button that turns laptop off. My screen has also been glitching and just now a glitch took up the whole screen then my background dissappeared to be left with this blue screen. Please help, I can't afford a new laptop!

That is odd and I'm not savvy enough to tell you what it means. But I'd venture a guess that you're in some kind of a debug mode. Again, a wild guess, but perhaps if you created a new admin account and log in with that, maybe the more (if that's the issue) will go away?
I'd start up in safe boot mode first and see if that helps. Maybe it's something running in your startup items?
Have you Googled the phrase? You might find something on a more technical Mac site that way? I just Googled <<event sysontoc>> and came up with a few leads you might want to check out.
