ICal restarts by itself

I've noticed an oddity about iCal, which is syncing through iCloud under Mac OS X 10.7.3. If I create or edit an event using iCal I can briefly see an indication in the top of its window that it is updating (" — Updating…"), and I always wait until this indication goes away before I quit iCal. However, very often I'll notice moments later that iCal is running again, even though I didn't intentionally restart it. If I then quit iCal without any event creation or editing, it won't restart on its own. Any ideas about why this is happening?

Greetings Riley,
When iCal is talking to a server (the updating you see at the top) it is pushing changes from the computer to the server and back down again.  If you quit the program before the push is complete, iCal will re-open itself in order to complete the push so the changes are not lost.
If you are confident you have waited several seconds after the updating badge does away then there may be a cache or preference that is not working as it should.
Troubleshooting:
1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
--- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu.
4. Launch iCal and test.
If the issue persists:
1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
3. Launch iCal and test.
Hope that helps!

  • IMac restarting by itself

    Hi all,
So the short of it is that my work iMac (bought new with 3 others), every so often, shuts down by itself and then restarts by itself as well with a message saying something along the lines of 'you have shut down your computer because of a problem'. It's like someone pulled the plug, no warning no nothing, just goes black and restarts. This happens as an alternative for then it crashes/freezes with the screen on and i have to force shutdown via power button.
I haven't been able to pin point reasons because there doesn't seem to be any particular trigger. Maybe when I'm using Adobe Creative Suite applications, but then again as a graphic designer, thats what Im always using, and Chrome (with, admitedly, more tabs open than average).
The tech guy has taken it in and supposedly ran some tests but came back with nothing to report, nothing happened with him. His latest theory is maybe a problem with the power supply, like a peak surge or something... I don't know, haven't tested with a surge protector yet. But done the usual permissions repair and disk repair etc and still nothing.
The other 2 iMacs, same specs, have never had these problems.
Searched online and haven't found any solutions and reports to my particular case. So I've decided to turn to this community for any help.
Below are the specs and an example crash report.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. You may have to leave the machine there for several days.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.

Make sure you have the Current Version of iTunes Installed on your computer
    iTunes free download from www.itunes.com/download
    Then See Here  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
You may need to try this More than Once...  Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
Take your time... Pay particular attention to Steps 3 and 4.
After you have Recovered your Device...
Re-Sync your Content or Restore from the most recent Backup...

Manged to found out the cause of the crash. First the findings. We applied all the patches on AIX required by the IBM jdk. Still the crash was happening. Finally after spending some time digging we managed to find that one of jsp page with this line response.setStatus(HttpServletResponse.SC_CONTINUE); was causing the crash. We need this line for some of the web proxies which dont keep http connection alive. Any ideas.
BTW this same application is running fine on Sun One Webserver 6.0.6 on Solaris.
    Thnks,
    Jawwad.

  • Plz help me my computer restarts by itself

    Hello
I got an msi k7t266a pro 2 motherboard. I got it about 7 months ago and it was running great until i got a new hard drive. I got an 80 gig hd. When i installed winxp and started browsing and playing games it just restarted by itself. I updated the bios to 3.0 and changed the settings in bios but it didnt work. So i installed the old hard drive and the same thing was happening. It just restarts.
Is there anyway to fix this?
    Did i damage the motherboard?
    amd athlon xp 1700+
    MSI k7t266a pro 2
    80 gig hd
    512 ddr ram
    Sound blaster llive
    Netgear dsl modem
    geforce 3 ti100
Iv spent 7 hours changing the settings in bios and fixing this and i dont know what to do..
    thanks

I wouldn't be to quick to start looking at forums for the infinite loop problem. You can spend days reading about it and not even have this as your problem. You can tell for sure if this is the problem however. All you have to do is disable the automatic reboot and then you will receive a bsod which would say "your computer has become stuck in an infinite loop". It will specifically say infinite loop. If it doesn't say this, you most likely need not worry about this. Your computer can be rebooting for any number of reasons, you need to find out why first. Disable the automatic reboot and post the error you receive in the bsod here.

  • My iPhone 5 keeps restarting by itself with a random interval maybe around 5-10 minutes

    Please help me..
i've got an UNjailbroken iPhone 5 32gb for around a year ago. it was really fine, until my iPhone restart by itself randomly. i don't know.. i've been googling for the solutions but negative. the warranty has already out so i don't suppose i can replace it with a new one.
There is also this rattling sound when i shake my iPhone. I'm pretty sure it's the battery, because it sounds big inside like it's battery.
The battery indicator is kinda stuck, because whenever i charge it, it's not charged but the lightning symbol is there. not only when charging, when i use it, it also stuck at that percentage not decreasing..
Please help me i don't know what to do.. i live in Indonesia. there are rarely apple stores here so i can't consult with anyone here
oh yeah i'm using iOS 7.1.2

    There are no international warranty.
You would need to get your phone service in the country you bought your phone.
There is no magic to fix your phone if it is a hardware issue.  The only option is the Apple store.
Yeah, i suppose i really have to bring it to a phone service, Thanks for the help

  • I need help Mega 865 pro still restart by itself

I bought Mega 865 pro last month. I already have install XP pro (very hard to install). In during install It's restart many time and then Mega865 pro do reinstall and complete by itself. I'm wordering because I think It can install so I shut down it. However, in the morning of the next day I try to re-open windows XP, so It can startup. However, I didn't install Instanton program, just driver install. Also, Windows still restart by itself. I'm no idea what the exactly I must do or I need to flash Bios for P4/3.0 GHz 800M LGA775/2M FSB 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 EM64T   please!!! Help me...How must I do? .... see below my stuff.
PS. How do the flash Bios? please explain me .
Mega PC 865 Pro P4 Home
    CPU: P4/3.0 GHz 800M LGA775/2M FSB 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 EM64T
    HD 160GB Seagate SATA
    NEC 16X DVD-RW
    RAM : Corsair VS1GB DDR400 PC 3200
VGA card: MSI RX9600Pro-TD 128 Radeon AGP 8X
    Monitor: Fujiplus 19"

flashing BIOS is only dangerous if you go blundering in without knowing what you are doing. you know you need to update the BIOS, as long as you read all relevant advices first, then you should have no problems!
basically you need to copy the BIOS image fie from your CD to a RAMdrive created in memory by a Windows 98SE bootdisk. that avoids the risk of bad floppy or CD read errors. you can find bootdisk images here: www.bootdisk.com

  • Ipod Restarts by itself

My ipod is restarting by itself for no reson. I tryed to resort my ipod but it did not work at all.
    What should i do?

I have been having the same problem... AND I HAVE IDENTIFIED THE SIMILARITY IN ALL OF MY PROBLEMATIC MP3'S...
THEY ARE ALL ENCODED IN MONO
I do not have any other type of file besides MP3's on my IPOD, and as of yet, I have not had this restarting problem with ANY of my files EXCEPT for EVERY ONE of them that is in MONO (as opposed to stereo).
When I have some time I will try to RE-encode these songs in Stereo, and reload them into my Ipod to see what will happen. But I'm going on vacation for a week and will not be able to do this for over a week. If anyone out there has the time, please try this and let us know how it works out.
For the time being, I am removing EVERY file that is encoded in Mono from my Ipod, and hopefully this problem will disappear.

  • My phone freezes, refuses to open some applications some times, switches off and restarts by itself... any idea what the problem is?

I am using iPhone 5 (iOS 7.1.2).  It often switches off and restarts by itself, sometimes it refuses to open certain applications until I switch off and restart it.  Sometimes it does not make a call through unless I switch off and restart.
Any idea what the problem could be and any advice to what I should do ?

    Hi jallam,
If you are having issues with restarting and apps not launching you may want to try this to troubleshoot.
Since restarting has not helped, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -

I want to see if some can help me with my issue, my tv restarts by itself, usually while using Netflix that said that is the majority of its use. if someone has a suggestion that can fix this issue I would appeciate it.

Try resetting the TV to factory defaults as explained on page 51 of your user's guide. If that doesn't help, you should call customer support.
