ICal Server Email Notifications to Users On Same Domain
I am using iCal Server in an environment where a all of the iCal Server users are internal to the organization with emails that end with the same internal domain name. Is it possible for iCal to send email notifications to those people invited internally whenever an event is scheduled? Not all of the users are using iCal as their calDAV client so it would be perfect if an email notification went out to the invitees when someone schedules an event. Email notification works just fine if I invite someone to an event with an external email address.
Thank you.
iCal Server sends invitations to internal users too if you remove the email addresses of your internal users under "Info" in Workgroup Manager.
So the Open Directory does not have an entry for the users with your internal domain, which makes iCal Server see the user as an external one.

ICal Server - Email notification to server users
I am running Snow Leopard Server on a small network with 15 users. The server is not accessible outside network.
The mail server is not hosted by Snow Leopard but by a external host.
I start to switch each user calendar to iCal Server.
I have two questions about the features of iCal Server:
Is there a solution to activate the email notification in addition of the CalDav notification for users registered on the server?
If a user is out of the network with his laptop (or iPhone), and because he can received email notification how can he receive the CalDav notifications?
Thank you for your helpAny updates

ICal Server email invitations - how to test and get this feature working
iCal Server email invitations - how to test and get this feature working
Thanks Apple for introducing this nice little feature into iCal but then completely neglecting to write any sort of useful manual that can explain what to do when it doesn't work after you set it up for the first time.
At long, long last we have finally got there after about 6 months of fiddling on and off, so I thought I had better post up the process since many have similar issues and it is hard to ascertain what is going on.
Using an external email server was just a waste of time and it still wouldn't handle the replies properly even though it was supposed to handle '+addressing'. In the end I set up a special gmail account for the iCal server and finally got it working. I list here the process of configuring and testing the system to check that each little stage is working.
Set up a Gmail account in Apple Mail to access and test in the usual way for any email account (e.g. [email protected].);
Set the iCal server email to access the same email using the following settings:
IMAP
SMTP
[email protected]
smtp.gmail.com
Port: 993 [x] Use SSL
Port: 587 [x] Use SSL
User & Pwd
Login
User & Pwd
To test the settings:
send out a test email from Apple Mail to a non-server email address that you can access to check it has been received;
send out a test email from your non-server email account to [email protected] and check that it is received;
this tells you that the GMail account is setup correctly and working
Testing iCal:
I noted that iCal was deleting any emails that arrive in the inBox in Apple Mail as soon as they arrived (this is to be expected);
test that the invites are being sent from iCal by setting an event in iCal and inviting your non-server address (you may not see any sign of this in Apple Mail but you should catch it in the iCal server log and possibly in the Gmail sent mail box);
check that the invite is received at your non-server account and Accept it in iCal on another machine - the reply is automatically sent back;
the replies appear in Apple Mail but are quickly deleted by iCal. But their record for you to see is left in Gmail under 'All Mail';
Accepted invites appear as a notification button on the top left hand bar on iCal where you click to acknowledge them and then the attendee is shown as a green circled tick instead of a grey circled ?.
this shows that iCal invitations are working correctly. Whenever an event is updated, all invitees should be updated by email automatically.
I hope this helps anyone - I could certainly have done with something similar when I started with looking at this.

The Error and Access logfile in the Server app under iCal server are very useful in determining any errors. I got lots of imip errors when I didn't quite have the settings right. The port is critical and it won't tell you this is the problem if it fails.iCal Server email invitations - how to test and get this feature working

Email notification for user created through reconciliation in OIM

Allow Cancellation while Pending Enable
Handler Name tcComplete Task
Assignment Rule Default
Target Type User
User Xelsysadm
Email name Create User Email Notification
Send Email Enable
Notification Assignee Enable
Email Create User Email Notification
Status Completed
Xelsysadm has a valid email id. Now when I am reconciling any user, two mail notifications are being sent. Not able to know from where these two notifications are being triggered.
Am i suppose to make any changes in the configurations?
Edited by: Amruta Agarwal on Sep 28, 2011 4:21 AMSorry re-read your issue again. I believe there are two notifications because you have added your notify task in the process definition and OIM OOTB sends a notification when a user is recon'd. Thus remove your task or disable the OOTB notification. The property is Recon.SEND_NOTIFICATION

How to configure Email notification for User login's in Exchange Infrastructure?
How to configure Email notification for User login's in Client Machines?
Hi ,
Based on the description , you need to assign logon scripts to the end users via group policy and also use your exchange server as the smtp server in that logon script to relay emails to the internal recipients.

Email Notification after User Self Registers in OIM
Hello there,
Can you please tell me how can send an email notification to users as soon as they register themselves in OIM using the OOTB OIM Self Registration.
Actually I am generating a unique User ID as a Post Insert in Create User Event Handler. By real question is to actually send this particular generated User ID to the user in an email - how can I do that?
Thanks.The exact scenario is an end-user directly self registers himself providing all the necessary values of User ID, First Name, Last Name, Email, Password (mandatory fields). But I want this request to be directly completed/approved. I don't want any kind of administrator intervention in creating these users in OIM such as providing approval details, etc. So I have added the remaining necessary fields on self registration page itself for users to be filled out - Organization Name, User-Type, Employee Role. The user provides all these details on OIM self registration and it directly gets created in OIM.
I have made an email definition of type "provisioning related" and included the necessary UDF's in it. And I have added this email defn to the "Email Notify" task of "Xellerate User" process. I have already checked the "Assignee", "Requester", "User" option box in the "Notification" tab. So now the problem is after user creation - the administrator is receiving an email containing the UDF values but the user is not receiving that. But the user is receiving the "Self Registration" email definition email which I don't want to send.
So really speaking I want to send an email on User creation containing the UDF values - but it is not sending it. I have integrated the "Email Notify" task with "tcCompleteTask" system adapter. Am I missing anything?
Please let me know as this func. needs to be in place asap.
Thanks. -
Email Notification for users when unlocking or reseting the pwd using SU01
Dear All,
Is it possible to send email notification to users when unlocking or reseting the password using Su01 in SAP .
I think with workflow it can be achived . I like to know if it can be done with any inbuilt funtionality of SAP.

ICal Server mail notification generates malformed Reply-To header
When a mail notification (invitation) for an event is sent by iCal Server running on Snow Leopard Server to an outside email address, an apparently malformed "Reply-To" header similar to
[email protected]
is always inserted into the message. As the above address is not a valid one, the recipient is unable to reply to the event invitation. The "From" and "Return-Path" headers always indicate the correct email address "[email protected]".
Has anyone encountered this issue, or more importantly, know of a solution?Remember - email addresses are technically only the @domain.com address. The suffix information is only a user of that domain.
ALL email sent regardless of who or how it is addressed before the @ is technically irrelevant to the end client (outlook, thunderbird, etc..)
Email is really only a DNS operation. The @domain.com is resolved somewhere in the cloud (no one really wants a boring DNS resolution lesson here....) to your domain server. In your public DNS records there are MX records which tell anyone trying to send email to your DOMAIN (not users) what mail servers you have, where they can be located, and in what priority they are used (if multiple mail servers are used.)
Once the email finds its way to your email server, it internally resolves the info before the @ to it's user directory (AD, OD, whatever) and then the mail server processes the message and sends it along to the user if it validates. But it still arrives at your mail server regardless if it is correct or not.
You can try this test yourself... (as long as copy all undeliverable mail to: is enabled in your server admin)
Send an email to some made up email address... [email protected].
It will still be resolved to your email server and "delivered" to your "copy undeliverable email to:" address. Even though it is not a valid user of your domain.
So, what does all that crap have to do with the topic? When you hit reply to an third party ical invite (because internal ical users don't use email for invites) - everything in front of the @domain.com is irrelevant in the reply process. And this applies to all email clients. The message is resolved and sent back to your @domain.com email server. So when you see the icalserver+blah blah blah [email protected] it is a correct address and all email clients only see the info after the @ for routing and send it to your email server.
It is once it hits the Mac Server does the magic happen. In the setup of ical, you specify an ical email address for this specific third party email invite function. Hence, the [email protected] address.
Mac email server has built in support for sub-addressing and this is where everything AFTER the "+" is resolved internally in the ical server.app. iCal uses this information to process the invite.
So, in closing... it has to be a Mac server for this function to work.
Hope I didn't stray to far from your question.

ICal Server email invitations with external mail server
So I see lots of people have worked out the kinks to get iCal Server to send invites to external email accounts when using the Mail server on the same machine as the iCal Server, but who has it working when the mail server is somewhere else? Any help would be appreciated... I have setup it up like this:
Email Address: [email protected]
Incoming Mail Server: mail.mailserver.com
User Name: com.apple.calendarserver (I created this account on the mail server)
Password: Same as the one in my keychain for com.apple.calendarserver
Outgoing Mail Server: mail.xyz.com
Username: com.apple.calendarserver
Password: Same as the one in my keychain for com.apple.calendarserver
When I send invites, this is what I get in the logs:

Customize ical server email invitation to events?
Is there a way to customize the email invitation that iCal server from snow leopard Server that sends to people outside of the organization when there is an event? maybe fonts? some custom text or company logo?
Thank you.iCal Server sends invitations to internal users too if you remove the email addresses of your internal users under "Info" in Workgroup Manager.
So the Open Directory does not have an entry for the users with your internal domain, which makes iCal Server see the user as an external one. -
Sending an email to user on same domain but hosted on another system
I need to be able to send emails to users of the same domain, but where their mailbox is hosted by a different (non-Exchange) system.
I've attempted it but got the usual "The email address you entered couldn't be found. Please check the recipient's email address and try to resend the message. If the problem
continues, please contact your helpdesk."
Is there something I can set up in ECP?
RogerHi ,
Please have a look in to the below mentioned options.
option 1 :
1.Please add the recipient email address domain suffix as the authoritative domain in the accepted domain list in the exchange .
2.In case if you have the recipient mail email address domain suffix is already added on the accepted domain list as an authoritative domain . Then the next step is to have the mail enabled contact for the recipient mailbox which is hosted on the non-exchange
system.Otherwise you will be getting an NDR which says that the recipient address is not found on the exchange system.Because recipient email address domain suffix is added as authoritative.That means our exchange server is responsible for the sending and
receiving emails for that particular domain.
3.Then you need to have the send connector to send emails to the address space of the mailbox which is located on the non-exchange system.
Option 2 :
1.Second option would be to add the recipient domain suffix as an internal relay on the exchange server's accepted domain list .On such case you don't need to have the mail enabled contact for the mailbox which is hosted on the non exchange system.
2.Then you need to have the send connector to send emails to the address space of the mailbox which is located on the non-exchange system.
Note : In case you have any of the above option implemented but still you are facing the issues means then we need to suspect the auto complete cache in the outlook .So please clear the particular email address from the autocomplete in the outlook and check
the results.Same time while composing the new emails please try to select the email address from the GAL instead of choosing it from OAB.
Please reply me if anything is unclear.
