ICal server not sending events older than 10 days

Have just discovered an issue with our iCal Server that I hope someone can help me resolve. It seems that sometime in the last few days, or past week. the iCal Server (running on a Snow Leopard Server 10.6.8 setup) has stopped sending out any events older than 10 or so days for 6 of the 7 calendar calDAV accounts that we all subscribe too. All future events on each calendar appear to be visible. The situation is consistent across of all of our Desktop's, MacBook Pro's and iPhone's so it is not localized to any single machine. It is also consistent when I subscribed through a third party calnedar application (BusyCal).
I have gone into the ~/Library/CalendarServer/Documents and although I could not access the folders directly, I did copy the folder and its contents to another hard drive where I was able to view what was inside. It appears that all of the individual event .ics files for each account are in their respective subfolders, but they are not being served out to the subscribers.
Any ideas on how to get these older events to become visible again would be very much appreciated. I am not very well versed on this type of thing and am learning on the fly.
Shawn

I'm having this same issue and I'm really ticked off.
When I upgraded today, I received a message saying that because I had so many events in the past that it would take longer to upgrade everything. It said that all my current and future events had been updated, but the past events would be available in 1 hour. Well, it's been a lot of 1 hours since then and nothing. All my events have been deleted from my MacPro, MacBook Pros, and iPhone. I'm holding out hope for them to reappear in the morning.
I know this isn't part of this thread, but I thought I'd throw it out anyway. Why are my subscribed calendars NOT visible online. Apple made an announcement in the past celebrating the ability to view subscribed calendars online when they once could not. Now with a new ADVANCEMENT, we've regressed and I cannot view subscribed calendars online. I hate to break it to Apple, but I use these subscribed calendars in my scheduling and planning, too. I still need to see them online just as I do on my computer and phone. So with all the updating and wonderful features, the lack of this one makes MobileMe online calendars useless to me and others.
One step forward, two steps back.

  • Why spotlight is not able to perform searches on iCal events older than 365 days?

why spotlight is not able to perform searches on iCal events older than 365 days? I really do not understand why if iCal can sync all events, even the very old, the spotlight will not be able to search on events older than 365 days; why? is absurd; let's say I want to search for a person contained in an old appointment: iCal in your Mac with a few key words, I find it right away, but this important feature on the iPhone is locked; we have in our pockets phones are very sophisticated, but it does not manage to make things really trivial.

  • Calendar search not finding calendar events older than a year.

Calendar search cannot find events older than a year.
    neither does spotlight search.
    iphone 4s 16GB ios version 7.1.2
ipad 32GB with retina (purchased on 2012) ios version 7.1.2
Does anybody has the same issue?
Calendar events over one year old are not found when searched on iOS. Neither on the iPhone nor the iPad. Although they are found on a mac running mavericks calendar app.
All events are displayed when going directly to the month and viewing all the events of each day, but she search feature, the one accessed through the little magnifier, simply cannot find any event older than a year.
I have multiple events in my calendar and I tested them and the last I can find is within 365 days of today. after that events cannot be found.
    steps to reproduce:
    1. go into the calendar app on the iPhone and add an event but use a date date 13 months older than the current date. Save the event.
    2. verify the even is created by looking at the day of the event
    3. on the top right corner of the calendar app select the magnifying glass and try to search the event by typing any word you used on the title of the event just created
    4. search result will display No Results
    5. exit the calendar and access spotlight search on the home screen by using the "pull down" gesture from an area outside of the dock, including the top row of app icons. Type any word you used on the title of the event just created
    6. search result will not display the event
    Thanks

  • ICal will not send email of event

When I create an event in iCal, and I add invitees, iCal will not send an email to the specified people. This only happened after I updated to Mountain Lion. Starting to get frustrating.

    Greetings w0lverin3,
It seems you are not receiving alerts while using the Calendar app on your Mac.  The following article provides some steps that may help you find a resolution:
Calendar (Yosemite): If you’re not receiving alerts
If you’re not receiving Calendar alerts
If you set an alert to occur before a Calendar event but aren’t receiving the alert in Notification Center, there are several possible solutions.
Make sure alerts aren’t turned off in Calendar preferences. Choose Calendar > Preferences, click Alerts, then deselect “Turn off shared calendar messages in Notification Center” and “Turn off invitation messages in Notification Center.”
Make sure alerts aren’t turned off in Notifications preferences. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Notifications, click Calendar, then make sure None isn’t selected as the alert style.
Make sure Do Not Disturb isn’t turned on in Notification preferences. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Notifications, click Do Not Disturb, then make sure Do Not Disturb is not set to turn on when you want to receive alerts.
Make sure you set up the alert properly. See Set event alerts and receive notifications.

  • KEEP events older than 1 month

I fear I may be one of the more unusual iCal/iSync users in that I need to retain ALL prior events in my calendar when syncing with my Sony Ericsson W850i. I appear to only have 4 options in iSync - none of which allow me to keep events older than 1 month. Does anyone have a workaround for this? ...or am I just being stupid?

Thanks for your response Julian - it might not be the answer I wanted but I appreciate your time and information. My life isn't that exciting so it actually isn't a huge amount of data that needs syncing - there are just key dates that I sometimes need to have handy when I'm out and about. I've been syncing the lot with Sony Ericsson's latest PC Suite which is surprisingly quite good but sadly isn't available for Mac (I am brand spanking new to the world of the Mac and mostly enjoying it enormously !!). I think what I was hoping is that someone would have one of those cheeky Terminal commands that 'simply' amends that specific criteria... ah well. Perhaps I can ask another quick one - if I do sync with iSync I take it that iCal will retain all my older events regardless of what gets synced to the mobile?

  • Calendar sync problem - eliminates events older than 2 weeks

I sync my blackberry to my Mac using Blackberry Desktop manager.  It works fine except that it erases all events older than 2 weeks old......this is not what i want it to do.  I have adjusted the desktop manager to sync "all events" but it continues to erase older events.
What must I adjust to allow sync of all events (old, current and future).  I keep older events for various purposes including to remind me of past events and information.
    Help.

try going to blackberry calendar options and set calendar data duration for "forever"..  lot of records to sync, but you keep them.

  • How to keep iCal events older than 90 days?

We use one of our iCal calendars for business, and we need to refer back to client appointments that occurred several months in the past.  However, despite unchecking all the "Delete events" options in Prefs, any appointment older than 90+ days is gone.  This is extremely annoying for all concerned.  Is there a fix, or do we have to use something like Google calendar and link to it?  I'm looking for a simple solution for everyone in the office.

I am having the same issue in a slightly different way.
Have a main calendar server I connect to at work and iCal syncs via CalDAV.
Nothing over about 90 days is getting pulled down even after deleting the calendar.
I am not the only one at work with a Mac that faces this issue.

  • ICal Server not accepting more or two subscriptions

Hi there, I managed to install the SN server 10.6.4, DNS is running and hostname fully revesersible resolved, OD is standalone and fully functioning. After reading some other posts I found out why my users, set up with capital letters as shortname, were not able to send notifications. Never do that, don't ever use any capital letters for your users for short names. I mean, why isn't any manual and any book you can buy mentioning anything like that, why isn't Apple telling us how short names have to be designed ? Don't they know ? Ok, that took me quite some of my nerves. But what really gets me is that I'm not able to subscribe to more than one, after a restart of a client mac, at least two of my cliens calendars. The calendar of each user is fully accessible through the web and I can place any date. It's also possible to set the account as caldav under iCals preferences. That way too dates are fully manageable. But my users just want to look at a fellow calendar but not modify anything, so subscribing is legitimate. But not with iCal Server, it produces an unknown error -1. Tracing actions with fseventer shows nothing. Logs I observe don't give me any clues what's going on.
Subscribing to icalx or 30Boxes is totally possible, so it must be a server fault. Has anyone come across this phenomenon ? Any ideas are welcome.

  • ICal Calendar NOT displaying events?  I found a simple fix

    Hi there,
Many of us are having our iCal events disappear. I have seen this problem a number of times after the mobile me iCal update.
After trying many of the suggestions found in this forum, here is what I accidentally discovered that worked for me....
    1) Select the calendar (that is not displaying events) from the list of calendars in the left column of iCal.
    2) Double-click (on any day in month view) in the calendar to create a new event.
    3) Delete the new event.
After I did this, iCal started churning for a few seconds, then all of the events from that calendar appeared.
    Good luck,
    Matt

In fact the days at the top are not matching the days of the meetings. (I know when the meeting are - and they show up fine on my iPod)

  • Exchange 2010 Outlook search can not find messages older than 1 year

    Hello,
I have an exchange 2010 sp2 server. One of my users complains that Outlook search can not find any message older than 1 year. He have all his 5 year mails in the mailbox, but looks like search engine cant recognise them :(
    Any thoughts? thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Please verify that indexing is complete in Outlook:
    1. In Outlook, click in the Search box.
    2. Click the Search tab, click Search Tools, and then click Indexing Status.
    3. When the Indexing Status dialog appears, you should see the following:
Outlook has finished indexing all of your items.
0 items remaining to be indexed.
Besides, please use the Search-Mailbox cmdlet to check if you can get messages older than one year in this user mailbox.
    Best regards,

  • ICal server not working after restore

    Short version:
I did a clean install on my server. Restored the users & groups and the Library/CalendarServer folder.
I CAN browse my calendar data by going to http://[mydomain]:8008/ in Safari, even drilling right down to individual events.
But iCal, while it seems to login correctly and I don't get any errors, doesn't show any calendars.
Here's the long story with a bit more detail...
    1. got my new server (yay!)
    2. calendar server was working great
    3. three users had multiple calendars, and we shared them with eachother
    4. for reasons unrelated to iCal, I decided to do a clean install.
    5. first I did an "ASR" backup using terminal - to an external hard drive
    6. reinstalled Mac OS X Server version 10.5 (forgot to run software update at this point)
    7. re-entered the users and groups manually, but I was careful to make sure they had the same UID's
    8. used cp command to copy the collaboration folder back from the backup, as well as the CalendarServer folder.
    9. after much difficulty, finally got the wiki server working again
    10. iCal clients could still browse their own calendars (I guess they are cached locally), but were unable to connect to the server (login errors).
    11. realized that I hadn't run software update. I ran it. now running 10.5.3
    12. minor glitch with wikis is now solved... yay!
    13. calendars disappear from all iCal clients when they attempt to connect to server... doh!
    14. and here I am.

The current permission on /Library/CalendarServer/Documents are as follows.
    drwxr-x---@ 2 _calendar admin 68 Jun 30 23:38 Documents
    WebDAV:{DAV:}acl 136

  • Mail server not sending mail properly

I'm sure there is a quick fix to this that I'm not seeing but hopefully someone knows this better than I do.
We are in transition from a Plesk Mail system over to our OSX Server Mail Server. We are transitioning over our accounts by domain and not doing every domain at once which would be a hassle. We have transitioned over the primary domain and one virtual domain so far. We have two more virtual domains to go.
This third virtual domain has a lot of users and I just finish importing them all. I followed the write up on how to do this properly with doing it in WGM and then duplicating it in Postfix since virtual domains is broken. So I followed all those instructions but something weird is happening. We have not cut over our MX record yet for that virtual domain as we want to prepare our clients for when we do. But what is happening is if I send an e-mail from my account in the primary domain to a person in the virtual domain that we have not cut over yet, they won't get any mail from me. It's almost like the OSX server thinks it controls that virtual domain and delivers it to itself instead of passing it on. Yet I look in my virtual domain settings and I don't have that virtual domain setup or turned on. I just have the user accounts in.
There has to be a way for the OSX server not to take control of virtual accounts until I'm ready for it to. Anyone know how to fix this?
    -Brian

So I thought this was fixed but I'm still hearing that users of the virtual domain that we haven't cut over yet are not getting their e-mail. It seems like our server is holding onto messages that need to be sent on to the old server for now until I change the MX record.
Here is the main.cf file output:

  • Cannot find my calendar events older than one year. Where are they ad how do I get them back?

I cannot find my old events on iCal. It seems it only goes back one year. How can I find them and recover my information and events going back further than that?

    Greetings,
Sorry to hear about the missing data.
If you don't see your events there are 2 possibilities:
1.) There is something wrong with the calendar cache
2.) The events have been deleted
First go to iCal > Preferences > Advanced > Delete events.. -- see if this has been checked as this deletes events after a point in time you specify.  Even if this is not checked now, if it was ever checked in the past, that will delete events.
To reset iCal's cache and settings in the hope this will bring the events back:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal 1 at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
Once the computer is back up and running open iCal and test.
If the events do not come back then the information you are looking for is truly not in iCal.  You will need to restore from a backup (like TimeMachine) from a point in time before the events in question went missing.
If you do not maintain backups of your computer, start now.
Depending on how long ago these events were deleted from iCal you can try using data recovery to bring the files back although as these are past events, you may find that just moving forward from here is simplier than going through the effort but that is of course up to you to decide.

You can contact a local Apple Authorized Provider to see if they offer data recovery services: http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/
There are many nationwide / worldwide data recovery companies out there.  Here are a few examples:
