ICal Server setup help !!!

Hello All,
I would like to share my experience with setting up the iCal server and all the hick ups I had to get it finally working. At least what worked for me. Check the basics before you start.
This is all done from after installing the server in Advanced setup or so to say normal installation as it was under Tiger. I'm trying to summarize what I have done. It took me a lot of hours do. So if I mis something feel free to reply with the missing things. Maybe together we can setup a working manual for all others that have problems with the setup and lack documentation from Apple.
1) Make sure your DNS is setup properly and working. Test it with:
type: “named-checkconf” in de root account of the terminal. Nothing should happen thats OK
type: “named-checkzone” in de root account of the terminal make sure you use the complete path and bare in mind that Apple changed the DNS setup again pointing to something like var/named/zones/db.example.come.zone.apple. The serial of the DNS should load and you should receive a OK. Make sure that your server IP is also mentioned in the system preferences/network DNS so you can use for example the server.example.com in server admin.
2) Either use SSL or don't when you want to use, use it everywhere otherwise it something will slip trough and want work. Without SSL it appears to work easier in the setup from local iCal client to server. But SSL is of course more secure. I want talk about Kerberos because I'm not able to get that to work yet.
3) Make sure you set it up from an "Open directory", "Local directory" should/could work to but I haven't test that yet and I seriously doubt it would work properly.
That being said I now can share my setup with you (switch your firewall of during setup it's easier to troubleshoot, switch it on again if everything works. If it stops working after the firewall is on again, well you know where to look for the problem :-)):
1) After setting up the Open Directory Master I switched on SSL and created a own certificate for my server. I didn't protected the certificate with a password as it gives a lot of extra problems with setting things it up. You can than select the certificate under Server Admin/Open Directory click on setting and click the tab LDAP. There you can select it.
2) Make sure your webserver is running and you have a working website where you can go to. Under Server Admin make sure that under the selection Sites that your FQDN is filled out. Being something like www.example.com and not example.com. The second one could cause iCal web part to not work accordingly at least that is my experience. After that choose security and make sure SSL is on and your certificate is selected. The rest of the website settings is pretty basic I didn't changed to much. I do know that I switched on some extra modules. Being bonjour_module, authzsvnmodule, davsvnmodule. This prevented further in the installation the 210 error when I went to the Calendar under my webbrowser. I wouldn't know which of the 3 is doing the trick I only know that after this it worked for me.
3) Pffffff OK go to the iCal Server settings under the Server Admin. The settings are straight forward but again make sure SSL is on and your certificate is selected. And look at your host name which should be someting like server.example.com. If you are not able to get DNS setup properly you could try your machines example.local name. But that again could give troubles when you want to use local iCal client outside the door on a laptop for example.
These where all the server admin setting. Now go to the Workgroup Manager and selected the group/groups you want to have Calendaring switched on and choose the way people are able to logon. This you can do by going to the group select the default website and services you want to give. Then select under Allow the way people can logon to this website or iCal services.
When that's done you should have everything up and running on the server site. So now go to a local iCal client and go to preferences/accounts/server setting. Click the + on the left bottom site and fill out a name and password leave the server option for now to auto. This way and when everything is setup properly you should get something like https://server.example.com:8443/principals/_uids_/14A0DD22-86CA-4F55-96D9-9CB461640D52/. The end number should refer to your name and password account so the number want be the same as in this example. Well if it works you are one of the lucky people and you are able to setup a shared Calendar from there. It would help a lot if you have more than one machine to test. Because it didn't worked on my MacBook Pro getting a famous error "iCal unexpected secure name resolution" But it did worked on my wifes iMac. So the server settings are OK. Now the good part when it's not working is that you can go to your webbrowser and type or copy the following: https://www.example.com:8443/principals/users/shortname (naturally use your own server name and user name). There you can see details of the principals settings. Including youre uids number. This number is unique for your name and password. Copy this number. Then go back to iCal switch of the auto find in iCal client under preferences/accounts/server settings. The first part of the link is https://server.example.com:8443/principals/uids/(Now paste you number here). Hit enter and see what happens. It the name server is not working for you than use for example iso server the name mail if you have it setup in the DNS is should work. It did worked for me and it gave me a nice shared calendar which you can name for yourself. Every group member should be able to see this agenda once hooked up to it via iCal client and prefences/accounts/server settings.
If you go to your website or www.example.com/groups you should see youre shared group. Sorry I only tried it with one group sofar. If you make changes to the calendar from the webbrowser it will show up after a refresh in your iCal client and visa versa. The only thing I still have problems with is the events for more days. They show up on the web as events but when I click them they produce a unwanted error. But when it's based on a single day than it work perfectly.
Hopefully you have a working iCal server to now. If you find something interesting or you think I left some important things out. Please reply and fill out the blanks.
I just hope that it will save some time for the new once setting this up.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I am looking at setting up an iCal server myself for our business. However, our situation is a bit different. Could you also share what kind of workgroup you set it up for? And maybe help me answer a few questions below. Thanks in advance!
First a little background. We are a small management company. We have individual clients that we manage. We need to have access to their calendars to schedule events, etc. The thing is that we would be the only ones looking at everyone else's calendars at once so that we can coordinate our own schedules so that we can be where it is most important but still not lose track of other activities.
1. What kind of machine are you running the iCal Server on? Xserve? MacPro?
2. Is it possible to view multiple users' calendars within a single calendar view?
3. Does setting up this kind of calendar server sound like the setup for our situation where only we, the management, will be able to view all calendars?
4. How difficult will this set up be on our clients and their machines since we have little control over their personal machines? (The majority of our clients are all Mac users. There may be one PC user.)

  • 10.5.1 Server Setup - Help Make it all Work!

Hello Everyone, I currently have a new MacMini running 10.5.1 with our Calendar, Wiki and File Sharing. I have recently just returned from the Mac OS 10.5 Training Session from Chicago Columbia College and was astonished at what their demo servers did versus what mine has never done lol. We are a small tech company and there isn't much yet in the way of documentation or training or even training materials for Leopard Server. So I wanted to share some of what we learned from the training seminar and hopefully someone will know the proper answers to my questions. This is going to be a bit long winded but I think it's important to convey my questions/concerns.
    1. Ok initial setup of our Leopard server requires you to input a host name and then the domain name. Well after the first install of Leopard we found as I have read amongst the posts for the past 2 hours that if you place let's say macmini in the host-name field then place domain.com in the domain field. After the server setup is complete Leopard Server wants you to chat, vpn, and browse to http://macmini.domain.com/groups as well as mail. This is all well and good if you have access to DNS like I do and can easily make changes to the MX & A records but if your a typical SMB user then you won't and this means that once your e-mail is setup and your ready to start using your server anyone you e-mail will come from [email protected] and not [email protected] which is a huge problem. So be cautious here. I was instructed by Apple after scratching their head to leave the host-name blank and only fill in the domain name here if your on let's say a T1 or other medium with a static IP pointed at your machine or router. So this is my first pet peve, there is a sloppy work around to this by telling the server to receive e-mail for domain.com as well but still whenever you send it comes from the original domain.
    2. Application Setup - Single Sign-on - When I attended Leopard training this week in Chicago I was amazed at how whenever a user (demo -lab environment) logged into ichat, ical, wiki or e-mail there was simple single sign-on kerberos auth. What I mean by this is once the server is up and running and your Mac connects to the network for the first time either by manual add thru the directory application or a new Mac that finds the Leopard server automatically at first boot and you auth a user on the server to that Mac then there is just a single signon from that point on, NOT! For us our users log into their machines, (mind u they are already users on the Leopard server and can log in just fine) and they try to go to their e-mail for the first time it always fails. We then have to disable SSL over SMTP and IMAP and manually type in their passwords because the MacMail clients cannot trust the SSL cert or we simply just delete their accounts and recreate them from scratch. Same happens with iChat. By design when you auth your Mac against the server, the server auto configs the security and client apps, i.e. mail, ichat, directory, VPN, ical. But iCal has consistently failed setup across 5 server builds and 10 clients. What will happen is when you go to prefs in ichat you see your account but it can't auth you and doesn't show up in ical for your personal server calendar. If you manually remove your user account and re-add it works great. But next time you go to ichat, once again you have to recreate. And I can recreate this all day long. But at the demo it worked like magic. So that is problem number two, SSL and single sign-on does not really work and app auto-config does not work at all.
    3. Apple Airport Extreme 802.11N. - As a test and per Apple's recommendation for SMB clients we picked up a new Airport. We patched it and setup user/pass info and setup DHCP on the device for so if server fails we have internet. And during server setup it logged into Airport and tried to configure settings. We were on the net and all was good after server setup. However with VPN enabled per user in Standard mode on server we have only been able to gain VPN access for clients if they are actually inside the network. I have spent about 10 hours back and forth with Apple Support trying to get VPN to work outside. The Manual setup of new Airport Port-Mapping is simple but crude. It does not seem to work. And there is a default hosts setting which should translate to an open DMZ but does not. So that is third on my list, running a MacMini with 2gig's of RAM which is within SPEC for Leopard Server and using the Apple Recommended solution of an Airport Extreme N does not work for s&*% and I would be very surprised if anyone here has gotten that to work.
    4. E-Mail Services - As stated prior Leopards auto app setup utility does not work for crap unless by some magic there are other steps besides the ones outlined and printed with the purchase of server. But the main thing about mail is that we are missing the basics. I mean your going to be hard pressed to find ANY e-mail application on the market today, Notes, Exchange, Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, iMail or other that does not include basic vacation/out of the office message replies. This is a huge issue for any small business or for that matter any size business that wants to automate things when they are out and I think this is one of my small peeves but certainly worth a listing here.
    5. VPN - We have tried like **** to get the VPN to work thru the Airport as previously noted but we have also connected MacPro with 2 nics, one for net and one for LAN and not been able to connect to the server from outside our network. Here is my largest frustration, we currently run SBS2003 from MSFT and they run flawlessly. I have literally sat with clients in their office during a new setup for SBS and in 3-4 hours we were up and running with minimal system level changes from the guided path. And for Apple to advertise this in the manual and all online materials as being SMB friendly is a complete slap in the face. Now don't confuse my above descriptions of problems we have seen across 5 Leopard builds as being a rant because it's not but seriously I am a network engineer with 10 years in the field working with 20+ product ranges and in our office we only use Mac because of stability and uptime. But OS X 10.5 is not Small Business Friendly at all even with the half hearted attempt at the new System Admin console for SMB users. However that being said I will still push on and try to get all these little bugs worked out and what I would really like to see is some feedback on my issues and I would love to know if anyone else has had similar issues. I really had hoped that 10.5 could help my firm finally push the proper solution (Mac OS X) for our SMB clients but it just isn't there yet.
    Cheers,
    DM

Thanks for the quick read and response. Do you feel the issue might lie with the fact that it is a Mac Mini? And possibly just not powerful enough to run Leopard Server? I have to say in our trials with MacPro it was like night and day as to how they performed. And if you could elaborate on this "Many VPNs don't play well with NAT so your VPN server should have a direct connection to the public network (preferably firewalled, of course, but not NATted)." Most every SoHo and for that matter uses simple NAT translation for security even our multi thousand dollar Cisco PIX and ASA's are basic NAT devices to start with. How would you put the VPN on public net while keeping the attack surface low for the rest of the services like file, web, mail and print?
Don't get me wrong I want this to work more than you can imagine. We are so tired of supporting MSFT technologies that cost thousands a year in antivirus, antispyware, antispam and other malware protection for the enterprise. We know that Leopard has great potential but for an integrator, getting this system up and functional is not an easy task. And the worst part of it is every time we have called for support the tech always lets out a sigh when they hear we have run standard setup because they are not allowed to walk us thru the server console to make repairs. And have been told by 3 techs so far that this is a new product and the support avenues are not there for standard since it just supposed to work out of the box. But when it doesn't then ohh well. Which is sorta sad...

  • I'm not a File Server tech-iCal Server setup decision? Was using NUTD

I've read thru the iCal Server Admin pdf multiple times. There is a ton of server related knowledge required to successfully set iCal Server up.
I don't have it (the knowledge) and don't have time to dedicate to learning it.
My company used to use Now Up To Date Server. Those folks actually did a great job of making it simple compared to iCal Server. NUTD did not work with iCal.
So I was hoping to be able to setup the iCal Server without a ton of back-office knowledge required.
*Can anyone suggest some help as to how I can get this working without having to becoming a Server Tech?*

I feel you pain. Wish Apple would just buy NUTD. I have subscribed to your question and am seeking answers myself. If I find anything I will try to share with you. This software is so un-Apple.

  • ICal server setup.

    Heya Guys,
I have an OS X server in Standard mode running 10.5.6
I have File sharing and VPN running fine but now I am trying to configure iCal.
The server users the DNS name 10.0.1.2 - it's IP address.
I have created the server calDAV account in iCal on the server and it lets me create calendars under the server but I can't get clients to add the calendars on the server.
The users are being recognized by the server as I can set up delegation and so forth just can get the users to add the calendars into there client versions of iCal.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers.

    Hi Guys,
Just in case it helps anyone out I will post what made it work for me.
The URL for the server that was auto populating wasn't correct for some reason.
I removed the calDAV account in iCal on the server and created a new one with auto generating URL
One I created the calDAV account I copied the URL and saved it as a text document on one of the share points. I then connected to the share point from the client and copied the URL.
I created a new calDAV account on the client with the credentials and pasted the URL.
Now I am able to create events on the client and have them sync with the server. Hope someone finds this useful.

  • Server Setup Help - DNS

    Hi,
Hopefully someone can shine a light on this for me. I am sure I have confused myself more by doing all this research.
I am attempting to setup OS X Server (Leopard Server 10.5.4) on my server and am getting a little confused at the primary DNS Name setup screen.
I have a domain, lets call it macserver.com. It currently does not have any hosting. I plan on hosting it on my own server. I also created an A record (remote.macserver.com) and pointed it to my static IP address that my ISP gave me for remote desktop purposes, and eventually forward all MX records to it as well.
I can ping the A record address (remote.macserver.com) from any other network just fine so I know that is working.
My question is what do I put into the Primary DNS Name section during the setup? Would that be my domain name (macserver.com) or the remote.macserver.com? Should my server name be remote? Or could it be anything I want?
I currently don't have any dns servers. The AEBS is doing DHCP and handling the DNS as well. From my understanding I can setup the server to handle the DNS, and then just put in the DNS information (ip address) for my server in the AEBS setup screen and all should be good.
    Thanks for the help.!!
I am not an expert at DNS so any help would be appreciated

My question is what do I put into the Primary DNS Name section during the setup? Would that be my domain name (macserver.com) or the remote.macserver.com? Should my server name be remote? Or could it be anything I want?
From your description, your 'domain name' is 'macserver.com'.
Your server name is 'remote', and your fully-qualified domain name is 'remote.macserver.com'.
Note that you don't have to call your machine 'remote'. You can have multiple DNS records pointing to the same machine, so your machine could be called 'fred', but have DNS CNAME's that point 'remote.macserver.com', 'jack.macserver.com', and 'www.macserver.com' to the same machine. Other users use one (or any) of the names to get to the machine.

  • ICal server setup, Lion Server

Can anybody give me a brief run down on setup and syncing iCal on lion server with a lion client.
I'm having lots of trouble trying to share 5 existing calanders that used to be on a client. I have export the Calander and imported it to the server.
Every time I set up the client to read calanders on the server they can only see the default on not the 5 others that have been imported.
    Thanks
    Jeff

Create a new user on the Server called 'Jeff Calendar' or whatever.
    Exit the Server.
Into iCal on your Admin/Client machine create a new Account. Account type is CalDAV, Username and Password are the same as the User you created on the Server… 'Jeff Calendar' or whatever, and then enter your Server's address as text or numbers:
Click creat and the rest is straight forward. Now give the set up details of that new Account to the others who want to share your 'Jeff Calendar' with you.The Clients must have, I think, Mac OS 10.6  or upwards to have an iCal that with co-operate.
You will see a new group in iCal.
If you don't already know, do not add accounts to Address Book or iCal on the Server. Everything is Admin and Client Side. In the beginning I was also adding accounts to iCal and Address on the Server. It works fine but it is just one extra thing that could become corrupted. Let the Server 'serve' the Users you create on it.

  • Home mail server setup help.

I admit that I am pretty much clueless when it comes to setting up a mail server.
    The setup:
I have a local network at home with about 5 computers. Inside the network we have a router, a store-brought one that has bulit in DSL modem and wireless. It is out central DNS server and provides us with a local network domain name. Then we have a domain for the outside world to see us. Let's just call it "shadow.dot.com". I opened up the ports on the router to allow in port 80 and all POP3 addresses. I installed apache, php, mysql, and postfix on my Linux machine. I used webmin to configure postfix. Users can recieve emails, let's say from my hotmail account to [email protected] However, when I use webmins view usermail feature fromt he postfix area, I click on a user, then compose but my home local domain is listed instead of my shadow.do.com domain. I had in the configuration to place that outside domain in the address. Well, either way, I cannot send a message. It remains in the message queue and refuses to send.
I do not have smtp ports open because I want this secure. I only want to be able to send email from inside my local network. This way there is no chance at someone hacking my smtp part and sending tons of email spam with my address.
For this setup, what do I need in my main.cf configuration file? Can someone just put all the options in there that I need so I can copy and paste for the most part? I need to be able to send out, and I also need PHP to use it to send email to people. Do I need to unblock smtp? Do I need to change any settings with PHP or will it use postfix by default?
    Thanks.

There is a send mail queue that is viewable via webmin. I don't know if it errored or not, it just stayed in the queue and never sent.
I uninstalled postfix and then reinstalled it with default configs again. I modified a few settings to reflect my outside domain. Then I set up sasl to log into my ISPs mail server. Not mail sorta sends. Some PHP scripts still have trouble with it. I guess I need to fix those manually because some PHP scripts work and some don't so it might be an error with the script itself.
Mail is only sent via smtp via port 25, not recieved. Recieving port is in the one hundreds. That is the only port needed to be open for recieving of mail.
Thanks for you tips. I have I dynamic IP so liem clued me in on what to do. I don't know if it was a combination of bad config and dynamic IP, but it sorta works now, so I guess have more tweaking to do.

  • Server setup help

    Hi everyone,
I have just installed Os X Server 10.5 on a new iMac. I am using it to manage a bunch of tother macs on my network. in the initial setup I choose "Standard Setup" and continued the rest of the config. Now every time I try to add a new user or group I get the following message:
"The server reported the error '-14120' while trying to create the group."
Has has anyone else seen this problem?
    What is error '-14120'
    Thanks
    Tim

"Has has anyone else seen this problem?
    What is error '-14120'"
Yes. See the [Error '-14120'|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1205369] thread, as a starting point.
Looks to be an existing and nasty and as-yet unresolved bug in Leopard.

  • Setup iCal server accessible to the LAN via web browser

    Hello guys,
I am newbie in mac server and I believe there are lots of guys over there that could help me.
    Here's my environment:
    Software/Server: Mac OS X Server 10.6
Hardware: Mac Mini Server Snow Leopard
    LAN/internet Setup:
Broadband -> router -> mac mini server
    -> mac users
    -> pc users
    Now, here's my scenario:
The mac mini is already running (OS is already installed) and act a normal computer usage like internet browsing, doing some documents and so on and so forth. But now, we decided to make the mac mini server as a server(calendar (iCal) server, address book server, web-server). I'm not so much familiar with DNS, DHCP or networking things to make the client computers connected to server.
My main concern is that I want the calendar to be accessible via web browser in our local network (something like this -> http://calendar.company/ or can access via IP address of the server like.. http://192.168.1.20/), in this case Mac and PC users connected to our LAN(router) can able to access and share their our calendar.
    Now questions are:
    1. How can I setup the mac mini server and calendar server to be accessible via web browser to the mac and pc users?
    2. Do I still need to setup DNS and public IP for my server?
    3. Where can I get a step by step tutorials that I could follow?
All recommendations and comments are all appreciated
    Thanks in advance,
    Emmman

I can't find any clear and step by step instructions with my concern. I am not expecting this to be easy(can setup even non-IT) as apple advertise but as I am reading the documentations I notice these things to be properly setup:
    1. Functional DNS system. - This is a high level networking Stuff(Non-IT can't even understand it).
    2. IP addresses, reverse IP's etc - Non-IT can't even understand it
    3. Router Configurations - Non-IT can't even understand it.
and so on and so forth.
We, the newbie on mac server just need a clear and step by step scenario on how to setup the whole thing.
    Thank you.

  • Need urgent Help for setting up iCal Server

I will move the iCal portion here, maybe I will get some help.
    Okay first my setup:
Two XServe with the latest 10.5 (one is the backup)
    Six Mac Pros with Leopard
Three Macbook Pros with Snow Leopard
All Macs are on an Windows 2003 Active Directory network. Also we have our accounts locally (on each workstation and laptop).
*So I have installed the advanced settings for the Server OS.
*Created a account for every user on the server
*The FTP, Web (for the local webpage), Open Directory and iCal services are on. (iCal would only activate with Open Directory service??)
*The iCal server destination (for the calendars) are on a separate drive with +Ignore Permissions+
Still can not link a account through iCal with the server!
Could somebody give me a walkthrough how to setup the iCal server?
Oh yeah another issue I had I can't get the calendaring checkbox in the user account to stick! Is this just a bug?

    Hi Umesh,
I would not use the repository on a database that was cloned. In my experience this leads to problems.
A better way is to clone the database and then create a new repository on the clone:
    1. export the repository on the windows server to an mdl file
    2. unregister all target users on solaris
    3. drop the repository on solarais
    4. create a new repository on solaris
    5. Import the data from the mdl file you exported in step 1
    6. register target users
    7. configure and register the locations
This way requires some manual work, but I do not see another way.
    Regards,
    Carsten.

With an attitude like that, you got nicer replies than you should have.  I have my work email on my iPhone and my iPad, but there's no way on earth anyone here would have known what my companies server is other than my company system administrator.........

  • Tryton: server setup (need help)

does anyone around here use tryton?  I've installed it and all the modules I'm interested in figuring out, but I am not finding any documentation clearly written well enough to configure /etc/trytond.conf in general.  The wiki page doesn't have any real info on it aside from the absolute bare minimum and I am new to mysql/postgresql/sqlite stuff.  I guess I am pretty much looking for a tryton server setup "for dummies"... but any help is appreciated.  I'm looking to initially set up the server on the same system as the client is running (particularly to get a feel for what I'm dealing with) and at some point separate the 2 and have the server running on a separate system from the client (possibly with multiple clients connecting to that server).  Also curious about encryption...  Thanks in advance!

    Hi Tibor,
i know i asked too many different questions relating to different topics. But i have no clue as to how to set up a server, all i knew was that i want one for my home as we have 5 users and i wanted to share data amongst the users. So i just bought it blindly, thinking that Mac being a super smart computer will do everything on its own my bad, i should have researched first and then bought it.
However i have already asked for a static IP and i as i mentioned to (Toocool) i understand now y you'll asked me to get one.
Security i know is imp, but yet again i dont know how to maximze the security of the server, other than asking the users to input passwords, and that not giving access to all the users to all folders and files including guest user
Thanks a lot anyway and if there is any info u feel i know know about, please do let me know.
    Your help is appreciated!!
    Regards,
    Deep.

  • Setup ICal Server 3 and Contacts

I want to set up a shared calender for my family with Lion Server but:
-the only option i get in is to add locations and rescources witch no one can see except for the represtatative.
-If i add the webserver with webcal it works just fine with a calender for every user but not a shared one
-if i want to add the calender with ical i get the error Message that there is no running ical Server or i entered the wrong url.
We Have very slow internet around here so it would be important that the ical Account works that you dont need the slow webcal.
    Thanks for your help :-)
    Greeting Locke

Just bumping this, hoping that someone can provide some feedback on this.  Thanks!

  • ICal server on a PC... HELP!!!!

Ok iam finally swallowing my pride... I have no idea what Iam doing... I am trying to put our iCal server onto a PC in a remote office - all the mac's in the remote office works fine, however the PC laptop just doesn't.
IAm willing to buy/use any program to run the iCal server... just have no idea which one/where to look.
    Many thanks - Adam

    Adam,
I've been fighting with this for a bit as well...
I'm well aware that you probably did some/most of the below steps already, but my
    step by step would be:
    1) Install Lightning
    2) open the calendar view
    3) right click on the "Home" calendar that gets displayed and select "New calendar"
    4) Select "On the network"
    5) Select CalDAV
Now for the tricky part, the location: I could only get it to work by using ical server's user id and calendar id, so my locations look like this:
for the first calendar I created it is
    https://calendar.server.com:8443/calendars/_uuids_/fff6ff85-ff65-4cbb-ff6c-6ff2f5668c75/calendar
(all in one line, and of course you need to replace calendar.server.com by your server's name)
This one worked flawlessly on the PC.
The second calendar I created looks like this:
    https://calendar.server.com:8443/calendars/_uuids_/fff6ff85-ff65-4cbb-ff6c-6ff2f5668c75/812D44BF-1904-4FC2-86B6-11D709B4A90A
but initially I couldn't get this to work at all.
The problem was that I thought I could get the full URL via ical on a Mac by simply right-clicking on the calendar and selecting "Get info". However the URL gets trimmed at the end, so I got only about 15 characters of the second calendar id. I got the real id by going to https://calendar.server.com:8443 in Safari and then going down to /calendars/users/<myuserid>/. If you then click on the different calendar ids listed on top and look for the "displayname" property you can also see the "real name" of the calendar you're looking at, to identify the needed id.
    6) enter the location as shown above into the Location field
    7) click "Next", you should be asked for a username and password to access the calendar server now. Use the same as for subscribing on the Mac.
    8) click "Finish"
    9) If you don't get any entries, and don't see any "Checking calendars" activity on the bottom right of the window restart Thunderbird.
This worked for me, hope it helps!
