Ical sharing between spouses computers

How can my wife share a calendar that we both can edit? We both have Mac books and it should seem simple but for now all we can do is share with out edit capability? Help. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The present release of iCal does not support read-write, shareable calendars. An update to iCal set for release now in the third quarter with Mac OS X 10.5 will—in conjunction with iCal Server or the Darwin Calendar Server—support this kind of data interchange.
Until then, you can take a look at SyncTogether from Mark/Space, which—among the many other features it offers—allows selectable, editable calendar sharing:

  • I store my itunes library on an external drive shared between 2 computers and itunes on computer A isn't seeing or showing the songs I added using itunes on computer B.

I store my itunes library on an external drive shared between 2 computers and itunes on computer A isn't seeing or showing the songs I added using itunes on computer B. How to fix this?

I don't know if this is me adding files to iTunes when the external wasn't connected
    it is.
is it OK to just keep deleting that library on the Air?
    i wouldn't - at least not until i
    mount the external
point iTunes media folder location back to the external via preferences > advanced
consolidate my library via file > library > organize library
The ntfs hasn't seem to be causing any problems, but I've always wanted to know.
in order for your Mac to write to NTFS drives, it needs some help by installing e.g. the NTFS 3G driver. apparently that or something similar is installed on your Mac already. preferably, it would be formatted for Mac but then windows machines would need to have e.g. MacDrive installed to recognize the drive.

  • Home sharing between 2 computers + Apple devices/TV

After upgrading to iTunes 10.5, Home Sharing will not work on my Win7 64 bit system.  It works fine with my Win7 32 bit system.  I have verified that my security settings mirror on both computers, and have made sure that bonjour & itunes both are allowed.  After days of researching, and trying everything I could, I finally just wiped my computer, and did a clean install.  It still isn't working.  I checked both sets of diagnostics from the iTunes troubleshooter, and both say the same thing, line by line, excepting the different devices.  When I sign into Home Sharing, it says I've successfully logged in, but the library will not pop up on apple TV, or my other devices.

    Hello Chris G Shirley,
In order to do this, you would need to switch between the two Apple IDs used on each system in Settings > Music.
On iPhone, go to Settings > Music, then log in to Home Sharing using the same Apple ID and password.

  • File Sharing Between 2 computers - newbie.

    Hello,
I am running 10.5.2, and I am having some trouble with sharing files between computers. In a Finder window, in the sidebar, under the Shared pane, there's the icon and name of our other computer. But when I click it I get Connecting... Connection Failed. This is the first time I've tried something like this, and I would like to know how I can resolve it.
    Thanks,
    -NXTMonger

In the finder window there is normally another button you can press 'connect as'
Then you can enter the username and password for that mac.
The other way is to press command +k and enter that macs ip address or bonjour name then the user name and password.

  • Screen sharing between two computers

I have a G5 in my studio and a MacBook Pro in my house which are connected by Wi-Fi. Both computers have sharing switched on and I can open folders easily between computers. Now, I can screen share from my G5 to control my laptop screen but when it comes to the other way round, my MacBook requests a name and password to share the G5's screen. I have never really understood that when I'm asked for a user password to access a remote computer, does it mean the computer's password that I am currently on, or the one I am trying to gain access to (which seems the logical choice) so I have tried the following from my laptop:
The G5's computer name and it's user administrator's password
My G5's administrator user folder name (which is the same as the MacBook Pro's) and same password,
The administrator's user MacBook Pro's password with the G5's computer name
Try either password plus the hard drive name of the G5 (running out of ideas at this point)...
I know it's not the end of the world, but can anyone suggest a way out of this? All suggestions welcome.
    Michael

I'm having the same problem screen sharing to a Lion 10.7.3 machine, I get this message.
However, it works just like it used to when I screen share from a 10.7.3 machine to another Mac running 10.6.8.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

  • File sharing between two computers;  reg. user has insufficient privileges

I am trying to transfer a file between a FP iMac and a new iMac, the former running 10.4.11 and the latter 10.5.5. File sharing is enabled on both. I can connect over our AirPort network as a registered user to my user account (which has the same name on both machines.) When I try to copy a folder from one to the other, I get an error message that I have insufficient privileges. When I check ownership for the file to be transferred and the destination folder (Desktop), I have read/write privileges for both.
    What am I doing wrong?

Pardon my ignorance, but what is "FP?"
On each computer, one at a time, could you afp mount the other computer and then, in Terminal.app, type
ls -Talkes (and leave a space after that final "s"),
then drag-and-drop from the Finder your source folder and and your destination folder (that will contain the copy of the source folder), then hit return?
As an example, after typing ls -Talkes and dragging the source and destination folders into the Terminal window one at a time and just before striking the return key, the command line in Terminal would read
    ls -Talkes Desktop/Source_folder /Volumes/jv/Desktop
the first time on the source computer and
    ls -Talkes /Volumes/jv/Desktop/Source_folder Desktop
the second time on the destination computer.
Please post the results for both cases, "sanitizing" as you see fit any personal identifying information and removing reported data from extraneous files and folders. I am mostly interested in seeing the permissions and ACLs for the entire path going from / (root) to source folder and the files contained therein, and from /Volumes/afpmountpoint to destination directory, relative to one computer, and from /Volumes/afpmountpoint to source folder and the files contained therein, and from / to destination directory, relative to the other computer.

  • Windows 8.1 ICS with file sharing between computers

Can someone help me get ICS working with file sharing between two computers (directly connected), without enabling file sharing on the internet network (on a public untrusted network)?  Is this possible?  I have set up ICS between two Windows 8.1
machines, but i can only get file sharing to work in one direction (from machine B to machine A)... UNLESS I turn on file sharing/discovery with the entire network from machine A (which i do not want to do).  I am not sure this exact question has been
asked, so my apologies if it has.
    Here is my configuration.
Machine A: win 8.1 (up to date), two NICs:  a wireless card (connected to internet) and a gigabit NIC (connected to machine B)
Machine B: win 8.1 (up to date), one NIC, a gigabit card connected to machine A
    What i did:
On Machine A:  I enabled ICS on machine A's wireless card, which automatically assigned the IP address 192.168.137.1 to the second NIC
On Machine B:DHCP was enabled so it automatically got an ip address (192.168.137.62), internet sharing works fine (i can open a browser, get email, etc.)
On Machine B: I enabled "Find devices and content" on the network device
On Machine A: Going into "view network settings" it lists my wireless network and the gigabit NIC.  The wireless under 'Wi-Fi' says 'Connected', and i can click on this and I have the option to turn on "Find devices and content".
On the wifi connection, i leave 'Find devices and content' turned OFF (so i don't discover computers on the wireless network, which is a public network).  My gigabit NIC shows up as "unidentified network"/"Limited".
When i click on the gigabit NIC, it does NOT give me an option to turn on "Find devices and content", it just shows some properties of the NIC (manufacturer, description, driver, mac address) and button that says "Copy".  On
the gigabit connection's properties (which is listed as "unidentified network/limited"), the option for 'Find devices and content' is missing.
On Machine A: I open a file browser and type '\\192.168.137.62' and it works correctly, i can see the computer and move files around.
On Machine B: It doesn't work.  I open a file browser and type in "\\192.168.137.1", and nothing happens.
If i enable 'Find devices and content' on machine A's wifi connection, everything works, but now everyone on the public network can see my computer.
Question:  How can i enable file sharing between machine A and machine B ONLY?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

The whole point of public networks is that they are unsafe, so file sharing is not permitted for your protection.
If you have a network which you know is safe, the way to get file sharing working is to change your security policy so that it is set to private, not public. You do this from the local security policy (on the ICS computer).

  • I am trying to set up Sharing amongst several computers on my home network.  I have followed all the setup instructions but after completion Sharing does not appear in my iTunes window (on any of the computers I've set up).  There is no explanation why.

I have been trying to set up Sharing between two computers on my network. I did this once and it worked.  However, when I try to set this up now the Sharing feature does not appear on the left side of the iTunes window (on either computer).  There is no explanation as to why not.  Is this a configuration problem, a network problem or what?   Can it be fixed?  I have tried turning sharing off and back on on both computers but to no avail.  What am I missing?  Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hey innerev2003,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If, while searching through your past purchases, items are unavailable to download and show a "Purchased" button, they are still on your computer. It may be best to search your iTunes library by clicking Music, then use the search bar at the top right.
If you are completely sure the items are no longer in your library, try signing out of the iTunes Store, and then back in.

Oops, I forgot a step between 7 and 8 ... before syncing the iPhone I need to explicitly send the document back to iTunes on the iPhone, or the changes won't come over at all ...
and then one more thing ... Numbers on iOS does NOT recognize a number of key features of the OSX app, such as conditional formatting ... so after editing my document on iOS and syncing it back to OSX on my Mac, all of those settings are lost (no more conditional formatting, have to do it all over again)
What am I doing wrong ?

  • ITunes Library shared between computers?

I have an iMac (OSX Lion) with two user accounts that are both sharing the same iTunes Library.  We now have a Macbook Air with the same user accounts.  The Macbook Air obviously does not have the same hard drive space and I therefore did not choose to migrate the library to the Air...What is the best way for each user to access the shared iTunes folder from the iMac?  I would like to do this while on the same LAN as well as remotely if possible.
I assume that simply setting iTunes up for "Sharing" will handle the local area question, but what about while we are away from home?  I assume that iCloud with iTunes Match would be the only answer?

Rented movies cannot be shared between computers. They can only exist on a single device at a time, and can only be moved from a computer to a player such as an iPod, iPhone or Apple TV. You cannot move a rental from one computer to another.
And yes, actually they do say that, in the Rentals FAQ, among other places.

  • Home Sharing between more than five computers

Our family has 1 IMac, 2 MacbookPros, 2 iPhones, and 2 Ipads. I'm trying to set up Home Sharing between all devices and computers. Everything works except when I tried to set up our new IMac and got the message "Cannot setup more than 5 computers.....". Been looking all over the Apple support area and have as yet found anything. Hopefully I'll get a response here. Whoever helps, know in advance it is very much appreciated - Thank you.

The limit of 5 computers applies to computer authorisations only. There is a limit to associated devices such as iPods etc but this also includes any authorised computers.
Could you have perhaps had previous computers that you did not de-authorise before you parted with them. You can see how many computers are authorised by visiting your account settings in iTunes on your computer.

  • Sharing between computers

I have a problem with Sharing with my MacBook Pro. I originally set up sharing between my iMac and my MacBook. Until just over a month ago everything worked well.
Now I cannot get them to ‘talk’ even though my iMac recognizes that the MBP exists and tries to share but the MBP does not even ‘see’ the iMac.
I can see that others have had similar problems but none of the proposed solutions for those problems that I have tried have worked (so far) and even the Genius service in the Mac store in Las Vegas has drawn a blank. Has anyone a suggestion as to what might have gone wrong?
    DAW

Had a feeling that might have been the case but didn't want to post an over-long initial request. Here goes:
My MBP is running version OS X 10.5.8 but I can't recall exactly what my iMac's is (I am away from home) both both computers are only a year old have latest software updates loaded.
I use it at home with a wireless router for to allow the two computers to link to the internet and if I am away from the iMac it provides me an with the ability to access my files.
The fault gradually appeared from some month or so ago as the MacBook Pro became reluctant to share with the iMac (until then it had worked superbly). It often required a couple of of attempts before linking up; however, if I was working on the iMac, I could link it to the MBP with no problems. Gradually the ability to link ether way became more problematic until neither would link to the other (although occasionally I could ‘Screen Share’ the MBP on the iMac). Also the MBP did not recognize the existence of any potentially shareable computers and finally even the ‘Shared’ label in the Finder menu disappeared.
I am now visiting my son and have found our Macs cannot see each other either. However, his Time Capsule does appear as a Share option on my Finder menu.
More curious is that when I visited the local Apple Store to try and resolve the problem, my machine could see all the other Computers in the store and the experts their could find no errors with my Sharing options in System Preferences.
As I type I have my son's TC shared but can see neither of his computers even though they are on, in use and they can see each other!

I'm trying to use iTunes sharing between my windows computers. My computer playlist is showing up on the sidebar but there is no content with it. Why won't the music from my other computer show up?

The computer has to be authorized for the account that purcchased the media.
What error message are you getting when you try to lauthorize the computer for that account?
Is there a way to find my Apple ID Name if I can't remember it?
Yes. Visit My Apple ID and click Find your Apple ID. See Finding your Apple ID if you'd like more information.
How do I change or recover a forgotten Apple ID Password?
If you've forgotten your Apple ID Password or want to change it, go to My Apple ID and follow the instructions. SeeChanging your Apple ID password if you'd like more information.
