ICal sharing bug?

Hello everyone,
Here is my problem with iCal: One of my calendars is shared with a friend and also made public calendar. My friend mistakenly made some change on my calendar and I had to revert it. Anyway, it was only then that I found out the sharing control setting of iCal is not functioning as it should. I tried turning off his edit ability and also removed the check on Public Calendar but somehow it doesn't work, a few seconds after I did so everything was still the same, the calendar is still public calendar and my friend still have view & edit rights (I switched his right to View only but no use).
Does anyone have the same problem?
Btw, my system is iMac late 2012 with Mountain Lion 10.8.3; I have an iPhone 5 and an iPad 3 both of which using the same iCal.
Thank you.

I was having the same issue and came across this post...
Basically all you have to do is log into iCloud.com and go to calendars, then change it to "view only"
IT WORKS!

  • Will Mountain Lion fix the major Internet Sharing bug in Lion?

Does anyone know if Apple have indicated that they will be issuing a fix to the Internet Sharing bug in Lion (i.e. Internet Sharing does not work) in the new Mountain Lion?

Hmmm. Pete, suggest cease dissing people's problem with VNC in Mt Lion as "doesn't exist here" syndrome. Maybe for you, it's working just fine....for some of us...NOT.
Following several threads on issues with VNC and Lion and the vague hope that Mt Lion would fix the problem, I also upgraded to Mt Lion. Worse.
Prior to Lion, VNC worked every time with any Mac I tried, inside or outside the local network. With Lion, VNC worked correctly until around 10.7.4, then with intermittent connections (requiring restarts on the target Mac in order to connect a second time).
Now, with Mt Lion (target Mac is still on Lion and restarted), I cannot connect externally to the Lion Mac even with it being restarted (and Screen Sharing and Remote Management turned off/on as one thread suggested).
As another thread suggested, I had deleted the iCloud System Pref on both Macs while on Lion (with no effect to VNC).
While I'm sure there's a solution out there, I have yet to find it.
Thanks for any suggestions, but will someone at Apple please address this issue?

  • ICal Shared Calendars

Is there is a way to password protect iCal shared calendars?

A quick update: with the December 31, 2007 release of BusySync version 1.5, users can now additionally synchronize iCal calendars outside of their existing subnet using procedures which are outlined here.
In addition, Mark/Space has announced that a Mac OS X 10.5 and later update will he forthcoming for SyncTogether, and a public beta of the updated application will be available here on or before January 31, 2008.

  • Possible Family Sharing Bug

I saw a possible Family Sharing bug in action today that I'd like to share. My neighbor experienced this problem today and it has us scratching our collective heads.
My neighbor is the “organizer" of a three-member family group under iCloud Family Sharing. The mother has two daughters, A (21 years old) and B (16 years old). Daughter B has her iTunes Store (etc.) purchases restricted and must have them electronically approved by her mom before the purchase will complete/download will begin (called the Ask To Buy feature). Daughter A is not restricted in any way.
Shortly after setting up Family Sharing for their family, the mother tells me that she keeps getting messages from iCloud (on her phone and Mac) saying Daughter A is wanting to purchase something from the iTunes Store.
So, I double-checked the mother's iCloud settings (on her iPhone and Mac) to successfully confirm that Daughter A is still not restricted and Daughter B is restricted. I also confirm with Daughter A (away at college) that she did try and make any such purchase.
When I asked Daughter B, she said she had tried to make a purchase from her iPhone (that was the same title the mom received a request for). When I checked Daughter B's iPhone, I found that Daughter B is logged into iCloud as herself using her own Apple ID. However, at the same time, she was logged into the iTunes and App Stores on her iPhone as using her older sister's (Daughter B) Apple ID.
To the best of my ability, I think I have spotted a logic problem with Family Sharing’s purchase restriction system. Since Family Sharing appears to be a part of iCloud and not iTunes Store specific, here is what I think is going on:
Daughter B is trying to make a purchase and the system is restricting her as designed. However, because she is using her sister’s Apple ID at the iTunes Store, the purchase request is being sent to the mother but with the wrong daughter’s name on the request.
[Note: Every Macintosh computer and iPhone in this scenario is running the latest versions of iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 on their devices. I personally upgraded each device.]
Does anyone agree or disagree with my suspicions?
When Daughter B logged out of iTunes Store on her iPhone and logged back into the Store with her own Apple ID, the problem went away. The purchase request was forwarded to her mother with the correct Daughter’s name attached.

    ApplePate,
Not all content can be downloaded via Family Sharing. The information outlined below details how to go about determining if content can be shared via Family Sharing.
Make sure that an app is shareable
To see if you can share an app, go to its product page in the App Store and scroll down to Information. Then see if it says Yes or No in the Family Sharing section.
Some apps may not be enabled for Family Sharing. If you’ve acquired one of these apps, you will be able to see it in your purchase history, but your family members won't be able to see or redownload it.
If you don't see your family's shared content

  • ICal Shared Exchange Calendar Stopped Working

I have been successfully accessing the Johns Hopkins Exchange servers for mail, address book, and calendar services on my Mac for months. In iCal I had also been accessing a shared Exchange calendar for many months. About 1-2 months ago, I lost access to this shared calendar in iCal only. Since I can still access it from Outlook on a PC, it seems something must have changed on my Mac. I still have access to my own exchange calendar in iCal, but when I go to re-setup the shared calendar in the account set up window, it shows that the shard calendar exists in the list of available calendars, but the indicator spins and spins without ever revealing my delegate privileges. Did Apple change something that is blocking access to my delegate privileges in iCal?
    Thanks for any help,
    Bill Convey

I would suggest to go into the options for that exchange server on your Pre and reset the calendar preference (that is: change it to not sync the calendar, save those settings, then switch it to 'on' again).
After doing this, perform the following action:
    -Open your Contacts App
-Select Preferences & Accounts from the dropdown menu
-Scroll to the bottom of that page and select "Sync Now".
This should resync all data on all Accounts on your phone.
Please note: It may take up to 10 minutes to sync all data from all Accounts. If you do not see all synced information after 10 minutes, perform a soft reset (shutdown your phone and restart it).

  • Ical sharing issue

I have an icloud account that i share calenders with my work collegues just fine, i wanted to share just my home calender with my wife, but there is where the issue starts. My home calender on my Imac is shared via a me.com icloud account. When i type my wifes me.com email address to share it does nothing, in so far as it sends her no invitation direct to her icloud calender or her email address via the share link. If however i send it to her itunes based address i.e a yahoo.co.uk address it goes through as a link on the email and via a browser she can see the shared calender, also after doing this its visable on her iphone 4S, however no matter how i change her settings its just does not come on to her mac. Both the iphone and macpro icloud is logged in under the me.com account not the itunes account so why would this be?
Its really making me scratch my head.
Just for info...both my ical and hers are running mountain lion and both iphones are updated to the latest iOS.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Have you checked her mail rules and filtering, the email may be going to a junk folder or even being deleted.

  • ICal invitations bug

Hi, I noticed that when my girlfriend sent me an invitation from her .mac to my .mac address, when I accepted, it returned the response to her work email address. Looking at the event and clicking on the drop down triangle on the organiser, it shows both her email addresses (from my Address Book) with the work one first. So I presume the mail response goes to the first email address listed rather than the address used to send the invitation which would be the correct behaviour.
No help requested/expected - just an observation.
    S

I can now explain (I think) why nobody else seems to be able to reproduce this bug - it's caused by using Entourage X with iCal! Invitations sent TO Entourage X are broken when passed into iCal on the recipient's Mac.
Solution: upgrade to Entourage 2004 or switch to Mail. The SENDER's mail program doesn't seem to have an affect.

  • ICal intel bug?

I manage a network of about 20 macs. I had a problem today with 2 users and iCal. They launched iCal and suddenly the calendars have dissappeared. or have they? Technically they havent. the data is still in ~User/Library/Application Data/iCal. And when I open up iCal the info pain displays the name of the last calendar they had used. But the calendars pain is empty. If i switch to day or week view iCal crashes. I took one users data directory and copied it over to a ppc machine, launch ical and it worked with out a hitch. all of the machines are on os x 10.4.8 and current as of about a week or 2 ago.
    any ideas?

Just found out that it might be not an intel bug - just a corrupted calendar...
It sounds like you have a data corruption of some sort in your user data. Make a new user and try using iCal in the new user account. If this works ok then the problem is within your user account.
If so, try these things in order to see if they will help:
    0.
    Backup you iCal data.
Open iCal and go to the File menu and choose Back up Database... to save a copy of your calendar data to your Desktop, just in case something goes wrong.
    1.
    Refresh your preference files.
There are some preference files related to iCal in your user's Library > Preferences. These are called:
    com.apple.iCal.alarmsCache.plist
    com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
    com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
    com.apple.iCal.plist
Quit iCal and move these files to your desktop. When you start iCal they will be re-created in the Preferences folder with the default values as needed. This does not affect your calendar data, just preference choices.
You should go into iCal preferences and make any changes you want there after doing this.
If this solves your problem there is no need to do any of the following.
    2.
    Check the calendars in turn.
In iCal un-check all the calendars in the list. You can do this by Command-Clicking one calendar's check box.
Then do the following with each calendar in turn: Check the calendar's check box and see if your problems still exist. If iCal seems to be ok, then un-check the check box and select the next calendar. If the symptoms still exist then this calendar is probably corrupted.
If you find a corrupted calendar in iCal, select it in the calendar list and from the File menu choose Export.. and export a copy of the calendar to your Desktop. Still in iCal, from the Edit menu choose Delete to remove the calendar from iCal. Then from the File menu choose Import... and select the 'Import an iCal file', find the calendar file you saved to your Desktop and import it.
(BTW The iCal calendar data is stored in your user's Library > Application Support > iCal.)
    3.
    Reset sync history.
If you have sync'd your calendar data there may be a corruption in the data stored by Sync Services which will be passed back into iCal when it syncs next.
Open iSync and from it's preferences select 'Reset Sync History' and in the confirmation dialog choose 'Reset Sync History' again.
I hope this helps to solve your problems.
    Best wishes
    Christoph

  • ICal syncing bug?

    Hello,
I don't know if I am posting in a right place, but..
I have an application, which syncs with iCal. And sometimes I get into trouble:
    Situation:
    a) in iCal is a Calendar an task in it, pushed by my application before.
    b) my application deletes those two records
    c) my app creates new identical calendar (with new id of cource) and a event in it.
    Result:
iCal is still showing deleted empty calendar. It is not possible to delete it manually from iCal. It gones, if I turn iCal off and start it over.
If I pull the truth from sync services, when iCal is showing deleted calendar, there is no such info about it.
Syncrospector logs information is available if required.
I wonder if this is a bug of iCal, or something I do not understand.
    Thanks for advices.
    MR.
    PB G4 12"   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   ical v. 2.0.3

There is virtually no one here who would understand what you are asking about. Push, pull, the truth, SyncServices and Syncrospector are terms almost unheard of outside of the developer community.
Write to me off line and I will send you a link to post your question to.

  • IOS 4.2.8 iCal Alarm Bug?

When I create an event in iCal on my iPhone 4 (Verizon iOS 4.2.8) I will set an alarm to notify me of the event, set for an hour before. The alarm/notification does not go off until 3 hours after the start of the event. Has anyone else experienced this?

Figured this out myself. This is not a bug. Apple has an option for "time zone support" in Settings for iCal in case you are in a different time zone than where you originally created an event in iCal. By default this is turned on, and is set to Cupertino - I am located in New York. Hence the oddly timed notifications.

  • ICal import bug when creating calendars in iPhoto 2011

    Hi,
I just created a calendar in the new iPhoto 2011 and imported an iCal calendar to the project.
What I discovered is that it only imports one event per day to the calendar in iPhoto, although the calendar in iCal has sometimes more than one event per day.
Fx. in my calendar in iCal I have two events on a certain date, f.x my mothers birthday and my son's birthday on January 18th. However when importing this calendar to the calendar project in iPhoto only my mothers name gets imported. This was not an issue in iPhoto 2010.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

Definitely a bug and unforgivable given the time of year - I usually order a couple of calendars as Christmas presents - If I can't order them in time for Christmas then Apple have lost the business.
It seems to me that iLife 11 was rushed out for Christmas. First the appalling upgrade problems and then the realisation that Calendars were not included. Two patches later and we still have an un-useable Calendar.
The worst part about it is, it's not obvious - I wonder how many people have ordered calendars and not noticed the missing Birthdays. I can see a lot of disappointed friends and relatives next year whose birthdays will be missed.
My only hope is an old backup of my Macbook - pre upgrade. If I can boot from that disk, import my recent photos, import the latest version of the iCal Calendar events, I can recreate the Calendar with iPhoto '09. Not sure I can be bothered,

  • ICal Feature, Bug, or Configuration Problem?

We have a school calendar running on iCal Server (10.6.4) called "CS Calendars". Each user has one default calendar when the account is created on the local MacBook (10.6.4). Many users have created additional calendars under "CS Calendars" so that they will show up as "busy" if they schedule stuff on the other calendars.
    Here's the problem...
A users sends an "invite" to another user. That user accepts the invite. The appointment shows up initially under "(username)'s Calendar" under "CS Calendars". The user now wants to change the appointment to another of their calendars under "CS Calendars". As soon as they select the other calendar an error message pops up saying:
The server responded with an error.
The request for (Name of Invite) in (Name of OTHER Calendar) in account "CS Calendars" failed.
    The server responded with
    "HTTP/1.1 502 Bad Gateway"
    to operation CalDavMoveEntityQueueableOperatioin.
I have googled that error operation and can't find but 6 links on the entire internet that has any reference to it and some of them are duplicates.
Is this a prohibited operation by CalDAV? (The user SWEARS to me that she was able to do this last year - we have had 4 iterations of 10.6 since then) Is this a bug in CalDAV? or (more likely) Do I not have iCal Server configured correctly OR the client misconfigured?
    Thanks for any help.

Apple Engineering is looking into this issue. Not sure what the problem is but it appears that if you have a user with an iCal acccount created via the "automatic" method this type of behavior occurs. The fact that it was working until recently makes me wonder if a software update broke something?
What has worked so far is to delete the old iCal account. Create a new one but use "CalDAV" as "Account Type". Then enter port # 8443 and check the SSL box (we have both SSL and non-SSL access to our calendar). Create the account.
Unfortunately, as soon as you do another error message is thrown stating that the username or password is incorrect. When you go back to account settings, the Password Field is BLANK. Re-entering the password seems to then fix the issue.
I didn't pick up on the problem because I only have one calendar and don't move appointments around like my users do. I'll report what Tech Support finds out.

  • Network Sharing Bug? A bit too complicated to describe in Subject...

I have a G5 and MacBook Pro connected via Gigabit Ethernet.
I have AFP Filesharing active on both.
First I could connect form the G5 to the MacBook and vice versa no problemo.
I used the Administrator's accounts to log in, since i have the same on both machines.
    Now this:
    1) add some user in the file sharing pref pane on both machines. Like user "Test".
    2) Log in to the other machine with user "Test".
    3) Disconnect as "Test"
    4) Try to log in with your Admin acount into the other computer.
Result: You'll not be logged in as Admin, but as user "Test".
No matter how many times you try.
Remedy: Restart the computer from which you are trying to connect.
Can anyone repro this before I send a bug report?
    Cheers,
    Phil

This bug is known to Apple. I have submitted a bug report on this and it turned out to be a "known issue".
Obviously it wasn't addressed in the 10.5.1 update. Let's hope for a security fix update.
