ICal subscription shows repeated events in Leopard

We use an enterprise management system at our agency that includes group calendars. An employee can subscribe (read only) to his/her calendar in iCal for easier viewing, and it will sync every 15 minutes. For all of our employees using Tiger, this works flawlessly. For all of our employees who have upgraded to Leopard, there are the following two issues:
1. Calendar events are duplicated. For instance, my iCal calendar will show two identical "Staff Meeting" events at 10:00 AM on Monday. Sometimes it will show 5 or six copies of the same event.
2. Some events on the central calendar never show up in iCal at all.
These two problems are not all predictable. For instance, it is not always recurring events that show up with duplicates. Likewise, there is no rhyme or reason for the events that never show up at all. No pattern of any kind.
Both Tiger users and Leopard users are using the exact same URL for the subscription, and they're both hitting the exact same system, so there is no difference at all in the system.
I had hoped that 10.5.2 would fix this issue as it seemed to relate to the many issues Leopard users seemed to be having with sync'ing .Mac, but I can tell you that 10.5.2 did nothing to resolve this.
We have tried deleting all iCal caches, but to no avail. We even have brand new MBPs with Leopard installed, freshly upgraded to 10.5.2, and the same problem happens.
Any ideas? Any more information help?

Thanks JZ. This actually was a specific event (I had the same problem you described initially). The difference was that ME also showed the dups - just let let me delete.
I finally found the origination of each event...it let me delete those....odd, but worked

  • Ical not showing new events and older events as well

    Hi There,
Since (as I recall) last monday, iCal started to work strange. Or, better put in other way: stopped working.
I have three calendars only (personal, work and "no category), all of them syncing with iCloud. There are two other local calendars too (in "my mac"), but I don't use them and they are unchecked.
I only use my macbook white and an iphone 3GS, also syncing with iCloud.
I don't subscribe any external calendar and don't accept any kind of invitation. It is a basic-simple use: I set my appointments (throw the whole year) and want to see / edit them on iphone.
Finally, I use reminders (on iphone) a lot and share the "personal" calendar with my with (she uses iCloud on her iphone and ipad).
The problems are basic two (as I could indentify so far):
    1) I can't set new appointments on iCal. Or better: I may set, but cannot see it. For instance, when a double click the Feb 24th to set a appointment, nothing happens, but a "New event" apperars on iCloud, right way. Looks like that iCal is setting the event up, but it just does not show it. Lately, I've discovered that when I go to the week view in iCal, it shows the event, but it just don't appear on month or year views;
    2) There are a bunch of events that appear correctly on iCloud (and iphone) but just don't show up in my iCal.
I've been trying to find a solution, already followed a couple of step-by-step possible solution (deleted local calendars, took off iClound accoun from iCal, deleted all files on specific folders in my library), but anything work out. It just don't work anymore.
    Scary...
I have just quit iCal and started using iCloud as my main input way for may events.... Wonder if anyone else is facing something like this and if is there any sollution out there.
Thanks a lot in advance and sorry for my bad English.

i have a similar problem. i can't add any new events to my ical. i can do it on ical on icloud but not on the ical on my itouch. i can't edit them either. it tells me the event can not be saved because a calendar has not been chosen. it was working just fine yesterday and now it won't work.
i'm new to this on line community stuff. i posted my questions but i don't know how i'm supposed to see any answers. i guess it doesn't matter that i even ask you this or reply to you because i don't plan to be able to see any comments to this. oh well. computer stuff is just crap  sometimes. i guess we have to learn to deal with it.
my paper calendar NEVER gave me any problems. i would just pull out my trusty pen and write down my appointment and wallah! it was done. it wouldn't get erased or deleted or stop working.

  • I have accepted iCal invitations with repeating events and they have since been deleted from the iCal on my Mac but won't delete from my iPhone. Help

I have accepted iCal invitations with repeating events and they have since been deleted from the iCal on my Mac but won't delete from my iPhone. Help

I experienced this issue as well.
    Background:
I had opened an ICS attachment for a repeating event on my iPhone, which added the item to my phone's calendar. I did not have the option to delete the calendar entry from my phone, and the item did not appear on the calendar on my Mac. My phone is currently running iOS 7 (but the problem began quite awhile ago; I don't recall which version of iOS was installed when it started).
    Solution (summary):
Create a new calendar, move the items that you wish to delete to the new calendar, then delete the new calendar
    Solution (detailed steps):
    Create a new calendar
On your phone, open the calendar app
Tap the "Calendars" option at the bottom of the screen
Tap the "Edit" button in the top left corner
Scroll to the bottom of the list and tap the "Add Calendar..." option
Give your new calendar a good name, such as "Delete me"
Tap "Done" in the top right corner to save the new calendar
Tap "Done" in the top left corner to finish editing the list of calendars
Tap "Done" to exit the list of calendars
Assign all calendar entries that you wish to delete to the calendar you created in step 1
Tap a calendar entry that you wish to delete
Tap the "Edit" button in the top right corner
Scroll down until you see the Calendar field (on an iPhone or iPod it's usually just below the bottom of the screen), then tap the Calendar field to bring up the list of available calendars
Tap the name of the calendar that you created in step 1 (e.g. "Delete me"); the screen should return to the main calendar entry page
Tap "Done" in the top right corner of the screen. You may need to then tap the "< Day" button on the top left of the screen to return to the main calendar view
Repeat the instructions in step 2 for each of the calendar entries that you wish to delete
Delete the calendar that you created in step 2 (this will delete all calendar entries assigned to this calendar)
From the main screen in the calendar app, tap the "Calendars" option at the bottom of the screen
Tap the "Edit" button in the top left corner
Tap the entry for the calendar that you created in step 2 (e.g. "Delete me")
Scroll to the bottom of the scren and tap the "Delete Calendar" option. You should be prompted with a warning that explains that "All events associated with this calendar will also be deleted."
If you're sure that the only items on this calendar are items that you wish to delete, tap the "Delete Calendar" button
Tap "Done" in the top right corner to exit the Edit Calendars screen
Tap "Done" to exit the list of calendars. You should now be back at the main view of the calendars app
Rejoice, your pesky repeating calendar events have been deleted
At this point all of the items that you assigned to the deleted calendar should be gone
Repeat the steps above for any entries that you missed
Post another message to this thread if this did not resolve your problem

  • ICal Group Calendars Repeating Events

Is it really true that group calendars can't have repeating events? If you add an group account in iCal and then take events from the Group calendar and make them repeating they do not show up in the web calendar.
Is Apple telling up that standing weekly or monthly meetings for a workgroup are "a bad thing"?

I have finally got Leopard Server Advanced up and running with Open Directory, iCal Server, Wiki Server and DNS. I haven't tried my luck on anything else because my experience is that once you break something there is no way to fix it other than a clean install!
Now I find that repeating events don't show up in the web calendar? Obviously this product was not ready to be released. I am hoping that after a couple of more point releases, maybe by 10.5.5, this will finally be stable and feature complete.
It has a long way to go before it lives up to its hype. It does have potential though so I am willing to hang in there.

  • ICal keeps deleting repeat Events

I created some events with the repeat option ON for every month. When I delete an old event with the repeat option ON, I press delete only this event keep repeats ON, but iCal deletes all repeats. How can I solve this?

This is the iSync forum - iSync does not sync to .Mac.
The *.Mac Sync* forum is here: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=957
However, there is an online document relating to the issue (found by typing the error into Google):

  • ICal subscription showing tasks but not meetings

I'm using Huddle (http://www.huddle.net) to manage my projects and teams and have successfully been syncing the calendar items I have there with my desktop iCal using a wecal:// calendar subscription url.
However, since upgrading to Snow Leopard and iCal 4.0 this feed still syncs tasks, but not meetings. No error messages are given, the meetings just aren't there.
Any ideas? Surely the ical spec hasn't changed and this is a Snow Leopard issue?
To confirm this I tested it on my Mac Mini which still has Leopard - and it works fine there.

I have the same issue with syncing subscription calendars. Just popped up when trying to sync my kids' sports calendars. OK with iCal, but nothing comes into calendars on MM or iPhone.

  • ICal not showing any events on certain dates.

Preface: I'm an intermediate computer user and I have never experienced an issue that I was not able to resolve with some troubleshooting, until now. Starting yesterday, iCal would not allow me to view/create events on dates March 13th - March 17th in Month View. I am able to create and view events on every other day of March, as well as other months in 2012. It is most peculiar because I am able to see the "new events" created on those dates when I switch to Day view.
Steps I've taken thus far: I've disabled iCloud, deleted all calendars from computer, quit the app, cleared ALL possible content (cache, icom, metadata, app support, etc) - Rebooted, reopened iCal (with icloud disabled) and was still experiencing the same issue.
I then ran a terminal command to completely wipe the iCal application, cleared all the data once again, rebooted, then migrated a fresh copy of iCal from another computer (running same OS) and the issue still persists.
Any thoughts? It's not an iCloud issue (which I immediately assumed), it's not an issue with the copy of the App I have, it's not an issue with my OS (I recently reformatted from clean slate and have not had a single other issue than this)....
    I'm out of possible ideas!

Spent more and more time trying to figure out a solution and finally came across a simple fix! If the start day is changed to Monday from Sunday it will fix this issue! (However, if changed back to Sunday the issue will persist)
Thanks to Musitrio for the head's up on this one.

  • ICal 3.0: Last day of the month repeating event

I am migrating back to iCal after a few years using Entourage. I am trying to set up calendar events and reminders for the last day of every month, but I can't figure out how to do it. In Entourage this was easy. Any advice? Thank you.

I would like this to be an easy feature included in iCal as I get paid on the 16 and second to last day of the month. I want iCal to show the event in the calendar, not for me to set the event and have an alarm for 24 hours before. I tried the trick found at http://www.macworld.com/article/47872/2005/11/trickical.html but that does not work with iCal 3.0.
Any help would be appreciated or maybe Apple adding this in the repeating section of the ical event seeing it is apart of the icalendar specification.

  • After install snow leopard, ical does not show the events of some calendars

After I install snow leopard, ical does not show all the events, or simple does not show the events of some calendars that I created.
Can somebody solve this problem? Is there some update for ical?

    Try the following:
1 - Go to your user account home folder, and open the library folder within it.
Look for the folder named "Calendars" and inside you might find a bunch of different folders with weird names. If they are there that means your calendars might not be lost.
2 - Look for the file "Calendar Cache". That file might be corrupted. Trash it. You may want to save a copy of it elsewhere. Once trashed, re-open ical. This should force it to rebuild its library based on those folders with weird names you saw. Your calendars should be back. Good luck

  • Some iCal Subscription Calendars disappeared in iCal, but events still show up?

    Hi there,
Here's my situation as simply as possible. I'm on Lion 10.7.4. Some iCal Subscription Calendars disappeared on my iMac iCal, but the events still show up.
    1. On iCal on my iMac:
         - I have 10 subscription calendars, but now only 6 show up.  --> (Herein lies the issue)
         - Events from the 4 missing calendars still show up.
    2. iPhone:
         - has all 10 subscription calendars
         - has all events showing up
    3. iPad:
        - has all 10 subscription calendars
         - has all events showing up
Does anyone know of an official workaround for this issue? What is the best approach to handling this issue?
    thanks!

Exact same issue here. Individual events deleted from a recurring appointment continue to show up in Calendar (OS X 10.8.2).  Same events do not show up on calendar if viewed via outlook from my desk PC or view outlook web app from anywhere.
    Clearly a bug.

  • Crazy iCal - doesn't show any events and to-dos

My iCal is going crazy. It all started with an inspector popup not closing. I clicked on "Done", but it just stayed there. I switched to a different week, it stayed at its position. I closed the window, it disappeared, but when I reopened the popup it was here again.
Then I restarted iCal and it was finally gone. But then even more strange things happened. I was doing some more "intensive" iCal-work. I exported/imported two calendars to merge them with others, I switched some events to different calendars, I edited some events, and did some copy/paste from repeating events (there was a warning message that only a single event will be copied). At some point there was again a strange behavior, I cut/pasted an event, but pasting didn't work. Then I pressd Command-Z to undo the cut, the event reappeared, I copied it and pasted it somewhere else. Then the events started to disappear. First the one I was editing. It was just gone. I switched to the previous week and back, and then no events were there anymore. In the other weeks there were still some (if I remember right), but when I switched to month-view - everything gone. The to-dos were still there. I restarted iCal, nothing, I restarted the Mac, nothing. Now even the to-dos are gone, although I can still see them in Mail.
It gets even worse: The left and right arrow-buttons to switch to a different day/week/month stay pressed when I click them until I click the day/week/month button. I have never seen anything like that before. I can not check/uncheck any calendar, the "today" button is greyed out. When i switch from month-view to day-view sometimes on the top you can still read half of "June 2009" from month-view.
I checked the files ~/Library/Calendars. I think the events are still there, I can view all the events (I think) in Quicklook. Also, the to-dos are still visible in Mail. It must be an iCal problem. After restarting iCal a couple of times the to-dos reappeared.
    Any ideas?
    [Update:]
Some events just reappered magically, among them the automatically imported birthdays from address book, but the dates are wrong. A friend whose birthday is on May 9th (that's a Saturday this year) appears now every week on Saturday!

    :S,
Sorry, missed that fact. My memory is good, but short.
Try moving the "Calendar Cache" file to your Desktop. Quit iCal, and find the "Calendar Cache" file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars. Move that file to your Desktop. After that, (I remember that I recommended this before), as long as you are moving files to the Desktop, repeat the plist removal procedure once again, log out/in or restart.
You should also consider removing the "To Do's" from Mail before restarting iCal. When you open iCal turn off "Show Birthdays calendar" in iCal>Preferences...>General.
Are you syncing any data? If so, what method(s) are you using?
    ;~)

  • Repeating event doesn't show

Hello, I am having trouble with one peculiar event type in iCal.
I sync a Palm with iCal via Mark/Space. Fairly trouble-free. However, I have noticed one small bug.
My work schedule repeats over two consecutive days and has different start times every second day. For example, on Monday I work 7:00am -3:00pm, same on Tuesday. But Wednesday and Thursday it's 3:00pm-11:00pm, etc. The third rotation is 11:00 pm and ends at 7:00am. I notice that iCal understands the first two sets (I enter one and make it a "repeating event, end on <the following day>), but for the overnight shift, it only displays the first of the two. That second overnight shift does not show up in any view: day, week, or month. My Palm does display it perfectly. Is this iCal not playing nice with events that span midnight?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Interesting... I've reset my Mark/Space and effectively had the handheld overwrite the iCal and restored all of my calandars. One problem solved. My first problem, the one about the second overnight event, persisted.
I opened iCal, clicked on the first overnight event, then clicked on the day (xx) of the "end on date" 3/xx/06. Just clicking on this one thing made the second overnight event suddenly appear. I hadn't even changed the day, I just highlighted it. I repeated this for each of the buggy overnight events and it fixed each one.

  • ICal repeating events become invisible if using Exchange 2010

I recently upgraded from Exchange 2007 server to Exchange 2010.
I had PREVIOUSLY been impressed by well iCal under Snow Leopard worked with Exchange Server. Everything was great. But, after upgrading to Exch 2010, many of my repeating calendar items became invisible in iCal.
I did some searching on the Internet, and found I am not alone. My service provider support desk was also able to reproduce on their end.
    Steps:
Connect to an Exchange 2010 account using Snow Leopard iCal.
RESULT: All repeating calendar with end dates will be missing.
Workaround: Remove the end date, or use a fixed number of repetitions rather than and end date.
Another Workaround: Get Entourage to sync to Exchange, then get Entourage to sync with iCal. OK, but there seems to be some bugs there too where things don't always sync right.
Since most people use repeating events, Mac users should avoid upgrading to Exchange 2010 for now.

    It's a time zone issue. checkhttps://discussions.apple.com/message/10108361#10108361

  • Repeating events slipped forward one day-version 3.02 Leopard

I use repeating events to list birthdays. Suddenly I found that all my birthday events had slipped forward one day earlier. What causes this? How can I correct it? The events are wrong but iCal registers the correct day of the month and time zone.

If you are using all day events, it might be something to do with the switch to daylight savings time.
You could potentially fix the problem by using a floating time zone rather than a real one for each event.
I assume you know about the option to record birthdays in Address Book and then to show these in a dedicated iCal calendar?

  • ICal month view some events shown only as ..., they show correctly in other views.

iCal month view some events shown only as ..., they show correctly in other views.

This is so utterly annoying- I never had this issue with previous versions of iCal, and I can't even run those versions on tiger now that I've upgraded. The tiger upgrade in general has disrupted my workflow much more than I thought it would-
Because of the way I use iCal, not seeing the full even title in month mode makes iCal pretty much useless to me. I don't want to have to click between dozens of events that begin with "Renders of" to find which set of renderings are due on which days. Nor do I want to go through and rename all of my "Renders of Levels 1a-3c" etc to make the titles more useful. It should just WORK.
Well, let me know if anyone finds a better way of making this work other than "resizing ad lib until things sorta show up"
