ICal: sync between accounts!

Hey,
I'm having 4 different accounts on my iMac (myself, my husband, one together and one for my company). Now I'd like to sync the iCal events on ALL of these accounts that are on the same computer.
Can someone tell me if it's possible? And if... how?
Steven

Hi: Im busily considering going from a Palm/rzr to the new iphone. However Busy sync doesn't seem to address my task. We have three Palm calendars. His Mine and Social. We want to import the social into Mine and His. But because of confidentail work issues we don't want all of them synced. Thanks D

  • Ical syncing between 2 versions of Leopard

I've got a 20"Imac and a Macbook Pro both of which I have Leopard installed on at this time. I was excited about Leopard because I had read that it would allow users to make changes from both computers and they would update on the calender itself. Well, my original calendars were setup under the previous version of Ical on the Imac and so I couldnt update the calendar off the laptop. But now, I dont understand why it wont work. Shouldnt I be able to edit the calendar? But I just get a error msg saying that I cant edit a calendar that I am subscribed to. Well, how else am I supposed to look at the calendar on the Macbook Pro?
Any help on this would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

the group sharing features of ical are only available if your ical calendars are being run and managed on a compatible CalDAV server such as ical server.
you may want to look at the following products:
    www.calgoo.com
    www.spanningsync.com
both products will allow for syncing of ical calendars between macs across the internet. i have not tried calgoo - they have a free and paying option - but have tried spanning sync which has worked quite well for me so far - spanning sync costs money though.
    hope this helps

  • ICal sync between two people if only one person has a .Mac account

Is there a way for two people to sync/edit iCal calendars if only one person has a .Mac account? I'd only want to selectively share/sync part of my iCal calendar and not the entire iCal calendar.
    Any ideas?

I think you meant to say "merge"
I am trying at the moment with fingers crossed.
One has Leopard the other Tiger. I hope it works.
Oh I turned on airplane mode and disconnected from the internet just to be sure sync doesn't get stuck.
Asked me to resolve 6 conflicts.. that's a good sign. It is taking a long time though. I hope it won't take so long every time I go from one computer to another. Otherwise it is easier to pass the files via iChat.
The file for address book is addressbook data in library/applicationsupport/address book
for iCal I make an export VCal file and then on the other computer delete the calendar and import the new one.
On the computer with Music I set it to manage manually.
OK I think I will have to do it like that because this took forever then it said it would have to modify 836 entries on my calendar for what was almost the same file.
The photo sync is annoying but I just turn off iPhoto when it asks to find my library (or you can make another program be the default program when you attach a camera and that program will come on then you can just quit it). I find the auto photo sync annoying as it takes so long and I would rather do that manually.

  • ICal Sync between two macs

Is there a way to sync iCal between two macs without having a .Mac account?
    Thanks,
    "D"

As far as backing up your calendars, I use the A/S below (scheduled daily) to backup my calendars. It places a copy of (~/Library/Calendars) in your (~/Library) folder.
Can be modified to locate the backup to an external drive if desired.
    --pick up directory path
set WhoAmI to ((path to library folder from user domain) as string)
set the_date to date string of (current date)
    tell application "Finder"
--make our backup folder if necessary
if not (exists folder (WhoAmI & "CalBackup")) then
make new folder with properties {name:"CalBackup"} at folder WhoAmI
         end if
delete every folder of folder (WhoAmI & "CalBackup")
         delay 3
make new folder with properties {name:the_date} at folder (WhoAmI & "CalBackup")
duplicate files of folder (WhoAmI & "Calendars") to folder (WhoAmI & "CalBackup:" & the_date)
         --check file sizes
set FileList to every file of folder (WhoAmI & "CalBackup:" & the_date)
         repeat with ThisFile in FileList
set TheSize to (size of ThisFile) / 1024
if TheSize < 0.2 then display dialog ((name of ThisFile) as string) & " may be empty" with icon caution
         end repeat
    end tell
Copy the script and paste it into your Script Editor. I saved it as an app called "iCal Backup" which I schedule to run daily.

  • ICal Syncing between Mac & iPhone

I have had a iPhone for some time now & also my Macbook with iCal, however I have encountered a problem which I cannot find a solution to on the software of either device.
My problem is a simple one: While my iCal always retains the events/information listed for each day of recent years, when I look back to retrieve such information in iCal on the iPhone, it only retains the information for each day of the month previous to the current date but nothing prior to that.
How do I address this??? Help please!

  • ICal sync between macs without mobileme?

    Hi
I wondered if there is any way to sync two iCal calenders via airport without using mobileme?
Both my macs run snow leopard.
    -Victor L

I assume people haven't responded because the answer to this question can be found in many places if you just take the time to search google.
    But here you go:
    1) You can use iSync to sync them both over bluetooth, i believe.
    2) You can use something like Spanning Sync or BusySync ($)
    3) You can use Fruux (free, BETA)
3.5) You could publish them to the free site icalexcahnge.com and subscribe to them on the other computer (but one mac can only view, not edit)
    4) You can use Plaxo or Google Calendar and CalDAV (not too pretty IMHO)
    5) You can buy Mac OS X Server and use the iCal Server ($$$)
    6) You can set up a Darwin Calendar Server (most complicated)

  • Syncing iCal on different accounts on my iMac

I can get iCal to sync on my iPhone, MacBook Pro and the admin account on my iMac using iCloud but I am trying (in vain) to give my kids viewing access to the same iCal on their accounts on the iMac - any help gratefully received

    Hi Thomas,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
First, I think it is fair to say that iCal .Mac syncing was really designed for the single user with a couple of Macs. But that doesn't mean it can't work for something more robust. There are people who are doing as you are with no problem (but perhaps not with as much data). And there are folks reporting problems syncing between Tiger and Panther (makes sense to me). And other folks reporting problems syncing period.
If you had been following threads here, you'd see that there seems to be a problem sometimes with iCal and iSync so if that's in the picture (has to be for Panther) than perhaps that's part of your problem. See the thread for more info: Patricia W, "iCal "Unexpectedly" Quitting after iTunes 5.0.1 install" #29, 10:59am Sep 25, 2005 CDT
I know that doesn't answer your question, but know that some folks are doing what you want with no problem.

  • ICal won't sync between computers / iphones

Since I started my free trial with mobileme, I have been trying to synch calendars between two desktop computers and two iPhones. No luck.
I have established a number of calendars on my me.com account, using my iMac. I also share these calendars with only those people I invite. I can see these calendars on the iCal on my iMac, but I cannot see these calendars on my MacBook Pro iCal. When I open an email on my MacBook Pro, alerting me to the Mobile Me calendar, I cannot join that calendar: "You can't join calendars you're sharing."
So how can I get all of the calendars to sync between both computers? If I resolve that problem, maybe the iPhone sync will resolve itself.

I got some help from MobileMe Support. Here's how they solved the problem.
On the laptop, open iCal and click the word iCal at top of the screen. Choose Preferences. 2. Click Accounts. 3. Click the plus button at the bottom of the page. 4. From the "Account Type," please choose "CalDAV." Enter your full MobileMe email address, including the @me.com suffix. If you don't include @me.com, the setup will not be successful. 5. Enter your MobileMe password. 6. For the Server address, please enter: cal.me.com 6. Click the Create button.

  • Share and Sync calendars between accounts

My wife and I each have our own user accounts on my Macbook. She syncs her iPad in her account, and I sync my iPhone in my account.
We would like to have one joint set of iCal calendars that sync between all accounts and devices, preferably without having to either subscribe to mobileMe, or buy a program.
I've done a quick search in this forum without finding anything. I'm hoping it's something as simple as putting both of our iCal databases in a shared folder, but my initial attempt to do that failed. Maybe I need to set up the right kind of links from the usual calendar locations.

Just to clarify what I tried as a first shot at doing this.
I created an alias to my Calendars folder in my Library folder, and also gave my wife's account (on the same Mac) read/write access to Calendars. (Could not find an option to make that permission recursive to all subfolders and files, but maybe that's automatic). Put the alias in my wife's drop box.
Logged in to my wife's account and dragged her Calendars folder onto her desktop. Dragged my Calendars alias into her Library and renamed it from Calendars Alias to Calendars.
What I hoped would now happen was that her iCal would start showing all my calendars instead of her old ones (which were minimal anyway).
What actually happened (after logging her out and back in ) was that her iCal gave an error message "invalid file name" and would not display any calendars. I was able to easily get her back to her former situation by trashing the alias and dragging her own Calendars folder back in from her desktop.
Surely there should be some way to accomplish essentially what I was trying to do -- have two users on the same Mac share a single set of calendars which are read/write to both of them. And by playing with permissions on individual calendars it should be easy to make some calendars read only to some users.
Maybe I need to go beyond using the kind of symbolic link created by the Finder alias mechanism, and make a hard link using the console? (but could that mess up Time Machine?) Or maybe something completely different? All suggestions welcome.

  • I have activated 2 iPhones using my iTunes account, but I now would like to take one iPhone off this account, and start its own iTunes "pairing" in order to back up, without cross syncing between purchases, how can I do this?

I have activated 2 iPhones using ONE iTunes account, but I would now like to remove one iPhone from the account and add it to a new iTunes account. This is so that I can back it up without cross syncing between purchases/apps on both iPhones.
Whats the best method for this?
    I'm running Windows 7
    Many thanks

Whenever a menu choice is grayed out, that is because you have Restrictions turned on in Settings.  Be sure to turn it off.
You are confusing an itunes store account with an icloud account.  You two can continue using the same ID for itunes (thus sharing purchased music, apps, etc.), but you really should have separate accounts (different IDs) for icloud, since an account is intended for one user to keep his/her devices in sync.
To create a new icloud account, go to
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
Then go to Settings>icloud and scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Delete Account.  (have restrictions turned off)  That will disconnect the device from the account but will not delete data in icloud or other devices.  Then sign in using the new ID.

  • Can I backup two devices (with different documents) to one iCloud account?  For example: iPad and iPhone, not everything is synced between the two, but I would like to backup each (seperately in the cloud), is this possible?

    Hello Apple Community,
Can I backup two devices (with different documents) to one iCloud account?
For example: iPad Air and iPhone 5, not everything is synced between the two, but I would like to backup each (seperately in the cloud).  Is this possible?
This way when I change from an old ipad to a new, I can restore with the ipad backup, and when I change from an old iphone to a new, I can restore from the
    iphone backup.
    Thank you in advance!

Terminology check here. Do you really mean a "CD"?  There's a difference in Cloud behavior between content from a physical CD you ripped (which only has Cloud content if you have iTunes Match) and an "album" you bought from the iTunes Store.
    Read references for Home Sharing.
iTunes: How to share music and video - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2688 - about Music Sharing and Home Sharing
Home Sharing Support page - http://www.apple.com/support/homesharing/
iOS: Setting up Home Sharing on your device - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4557 - "With Home Sharing in iOS 4.3 or later, you can stream your entire iTunes library over your home Wi-Fi network from your Mac or PC right to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch."
The above can get pretty complicated.  You are probably best off by syncing both devices to a single library and/or updating the libraries on both computers to have the same content.

  • Email accounts won't sync between iPhone and iPad

I can't figure out why email account syncing between my iPhone and iPad stopped?  For instance, if I delete a message in one of my email accounts on my iPhone it doesn't delete it on my iPad? Any help or suggestions is much appreciated!

same thing happened to me. multiple accounts, not syncing calendars.  everything worked until this morning.  noticed sync icon rotating last night and iphone is not set up to wi-fi sync, nor do I have an outlook account at all.

  • Possible bug when syncing between iCal & iPhone

Am I doing something wrong. Here's the scenario.
I have set up a continuous repeating appointment in iCal for my daughter
    Mon-Fri inclusive. 'School'
I then went and changed selected events to 'Summer Holiday' where applicable, each time I changed a day it asked whether I wanted to change 'Just this event' or 'All future events'.
    I selected 'Just this event'.
iCal worked fine and showed the new event on the correct days, but when I synced with the iPhone, the iPhone showed two events, the original repeating event and now the amended event as a new one. After the sync iCal still showed as correct
It seems to be a flaw in the sync between the iPhone and iCal.
    Does this make sense?
Can anyone else duplicate this scenario, or am I doing something wrong?
What is the best way to report this to Apple as a sync bug, if it is one?
cheers for listening to this waffle
    Paul

Yes, I've experience the same problem. In addition, when I enter a calendar event in iCal it syncs to the iPhone. When I enter a calendar event in the iPhone it does NOT sync to iCal on my intel based macbook. I've followed the "iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant" to the end without fixing the problem.
