ICal Sync preference dropdown in ITunes refusing to budge

In the iPhone Info tab in iTunes, the preference that defines where to categorize new events created on the iPhone does not allow a selection anymore. The dropdown function appears to work properly, but once you make a new selection it doesn't actually change. It appears to have defaulted to the last calendar I created.
Anyone else having this issue?
Thanks.

i'm having the same issue. I ended up changing it over to sync selected, and selecting all the calendars. This allowed me to pick which calendar to add new events to. Odd work around.
I think I remember having issues with the "all" option when syncing addresses to my Palm before in iSync. Same fix applied then too.

  • When trying to reset my iCal sync preferences, I lost my Mail sync capability

iPhone 4s, version 8 - Mac 10.6.8. Mac's too old for iCloud, so I have to sync via a cable and iTunes 11.4. Even before upgrading my phone to version 8, I have been unable to sync iCal from my Mac to my phone. Last time I could was 11 days ago. In the process of resetting my sync preferences through the terminal, I lost the capability to sync Mail. Now when I sync my phone through iTunes, Mail is gray so I cannot click it. (And while it LOOKS like I should be able to sync iCal - it's not gray, but is black - nothing in the phone changes.) Help!

This usually means you don't have enough storage on your iPad to do the update.  Go to Settings > General > About and check how much memory is available.  If you have less than 5GB you'll need to either delete data off your iPad, such as apps, photos, music, videos.
    OR
Connect your iPad ot your computer and update iOS via iTunes sync.

  • Do Reminders in iCal sync via iTunes?

I'm using Reminders in iCal 5.0.1 on OS X Lion. I sync my iCal data with the Calendar app on my iPhone, via iTunes (not iCloud). The weird thing is, none of my Reminders data is syncing, either from my iPhone to my iMac, or from my iMac to my iPhone.
Does the Reminders data only sync via iCloud?

This doesn't help you, but I just recently started having the same problem, I just upgraded my 3G to 4.0 in iTunes so I don't know if that has anything to do with it but nothing on my phones calendar will sync to iCal. Events in iCal sync to the computer just fine thought. I hope someone can help me figure this out!

  • Itunes refuses to let ipod sync, says "Mobile Device Service is not started

So for some reason my iTunes refuses to sync. Itunes announces it that there is something wrong with syncing, something about "bonjour being disabled" and then it asks if I would like itunes to fix the problem. I hit yes. Itunes then "fixes" the problem, by ignoring that there is an ipod connected to the computer, and refuses to acknowledge the ipod's existence even if I run a diagnostic. I tried downloading bonjour for windows, thinking that might solve the issue, but no such luck, it tells me i already have bonjour for windows on my computer--god knows where it thinks bonjour is, since running find turns up nothing.
Anyone have a clue how to smack itunes upside the head and get it to start syncing again?

  • Since I installed the new OS X Lion, the iCal syncing through iTunes is not working properly.

Since I installed the new OS X Lion, the iCal syncing through iTunes is not working properly.
When I sync my MacBook Pro with my iPhone and iPad, the events set in both devices (iPhone & iPad) are not transfered to the iCal on my labtop. Events created in both devices are transfered and copied betwen them when I sync them with the iTunes app (through the MacBook Pro) but they are not trasfered/copied into the labtop (iCal). The events created in the iCal (on my MacBook) are tranfered to the devices as two events on same hour. One, with the description created on the iCal, and the other as a New Event (no description). This is happening since I installed the new OS X Lion last week.
I file a report and talked with an Apple Support Representative, but they could not help me. They have not receive any other reports on this matter. Do someone has confronted this issue. I need to find out how to solve this problem.

Thank you very much for your help. It just worked fine. I have 4 macs in my company for 25 years (one is updated each year), and it is the first time I could not solve a problem for weeks. It gave me the opportunity to join this great community.

  • IPhone and iCal sync via iTunes - calendars appear on IPhone not in iCal

Hi, i hope that someone out there may have encountered and resolved this.
Basically I am trying to sync my iPhone 3G with iCal using iTunes as the sync tool. I have partial success in that my iCal calendar entries can be found within my iPhone BUT the reverse is not true, my iPhone calendar is showing in iCal - I would expect to see within the calendar list something like "on my iPhone" (although never having done this before i may be completely wrong!).
I should add that my iPhone is a company phone synced to Outlook over the air, iTunes tells me this, but it doesn't tell me that i can't do a Sync with my iMac.
    Any help welcomed.

  • ITunes refusing to sync (wrongly thinks it is over capacity) after iOS5 update

After updating my iPhone 3GS to iOS5, I started running into a problem (actually many problems like broken 3G internet but not directly related and I fixed those).
What lead to my current sync problem was initially a "An error occurred while restoring this iPhone. (-34)" infinite loop, described in other posts here as a common issue after iOS upgrades going back years (good job Apple). Out of frustration and to get out of it I ended up deleting my backup, which solved the loop but has now left me unable to sync.
According to iTunes, my phone has no music on it, but in fact it has 22 GB of content (out of 28 capacity). I figured since it thinks the phone is empty I'd just resync everything (a very long process, but until I do it I won't be able to sync at all) but after applying my selection for synching (specific playlists, 128 kbps AAC encoding, etc) iTunes fails to sync and tells me my selections require another 15 GB of space, even though the capacity bar for my selection says 22 out of 28 GB used (which is exactly what the bar said before I updated to iOS 5). What these numbers suggest to me is that even though iTunes doesn't recognize my music as still being on my phone, the sync process itself does and is trying to copy 21 GB of data into 6 GB of free space, resulting in the -15 GB error).
Can I make it recognize those files as already being there (to save myself having to copy them again) and if not how can I have iTunes clear files it doesn't report as being present? Preferably without wiping everything else that's on my phone, such as text message history etc.

  • IPod to iCal sync not working - FOLLOW UP

2 things...first sorry for the length of this post, I'm not sure how to say all of this shorter. Second, this is a follow up post to my earlier question, possibly to help others as well.
The problem I was having was that the iCal would sync events to the iPod, but not the other way around. After MANY restores/restarts, etc., it still wouldn't work. Off to the genius bar...tried many things, the last of which was connecting a store iPod to my Mac...still wouldn't sync. After I got home, I realized all the calendars from the store were now on my touch!
Next day, back to genius, was there for 3 hours with no resolution...tried everything, deleted iCal calendars, completely uninstalled, reinstalled, and rebuilt iTunes library, etc., store calendars still on iPod... Tried a few more things from home that night, no luck.
Back on Saturday for a replacement, which was given.
Back at home, restored last known good iCal calendars from Time Maching (God love time machine!)
Got home, store calendars not on this iPod, but the calendars themselves were in the list of possibles under "Info" tab in iTunes (don't know how else to say that.) Selected non-store calendars, and it synced only my stuff to the Touch, but still not from touch to iCal...
Tried a test account, and it worked! OK, so what's the difference between test account and mine? .Mac... For some reason, I tried to turn off .Mac syncing as a test, and it worked fine (the iCal/iPod thing)...replaced all .Mac info with stuff from the computer, turned syncing back on...bad calendars, etc. back, and iPod to iCal sync gone!
Long and short of it, I've killed my .Mac syncing and it works fine! The store calendars are no longer in the list on the "Info" tab, and everything else looks fine.
*If you can't get your iPod to sync with iCal, try killing your .Mac syncing and resetting sync preferences via iSync* (Applications/iSync then Apple+, for preferences).
I have no idea why this would have remained a problem since I replaced all .Mac info with stuff from my comp., but it was.
If you have any ideas why, I'd love to hear them. Thanks to all who offered suggestions to repair it the first time...

It was definitely worth a try, but it didn't work for my iPod touch.
What did work however was deleting BIRTHDAYS from my iCal (in Preferences / General). It's not the first time that Birthdays have caused me grief (ever since 10.5, .Mac Sync regularly gets its knickers in a twist over them) so I now just create a manual diary entry of my mum's birthday! It's a small price to pay for getting iPod and iCal to synch finally.

  • Problems with iCal syncing

I had this problem with my original iPhone and I also ran into it this morning while using my new iPhone 3G.
While syncing the iCal events to my phone, iTunes basically says it is syncing continuously. I actually went to bed one night with it saying it was 'syncing Calendar events' and when I woke up it was still doing the same thing.
I don't know if it is because I have events in there, like birthdays or PayDays, that have it as a yearly or weekly cycle, and don't have an ending date or if there is something else causing the problem. I've tried changing the end dates to the end of this year, but it didn't help.
So I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem, or had a solution to it. Any helpful feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have not experienced the same, but I suggest resetting the sync history on your Mac as a first step. This is done with iSync preferences with the iSync application in your Applications folder.
After selecting reset sync history, restart your Mac and try again.

  • Wireless iCal Sync?

On the iPhone, does iCal sync over the network (via wireless) with DotMac (as is the case on a Mac) or is a physical connection required to sync with a Mac/PC?

Please allow me to add my voice to the cry of people requesting wireless sync. This makes the iPhone functionally inadequate as a credible work phone. I don't want to go back to using Crack(berry). It's my only real complaint about my iPhone.
At a minimum please do something to replace the USB cable with wireless between the computer and the device. I'm constantly forgetting to leave my cable connected to my charger (at home) in the morning, and I can't sync my calendar all day.
Since I'm a software product manager by background, please allow me to suggest a small, prioritized functional description, as a way to express my prioritized list of wants. Hopefully it helps provide some insight into customer use cases.
    Please, please, please.........
    *Wireless sync - local*
    1) The iPhone will perform a "standard" sync (calendar, contacts, images, audio) with a laptop using a "local" wireless transport (substituting transparently for the existing USB transport.) (Note that this description does not address wide-area sync over a wireless carrier network.)
    2) End-user functionality remains the same with regard to the sync.
    3) The first time a user wishes to pair the iPhone with a computer, an authentication, configuration, and pairing step must be performed (from within iTunes) while the iPhone is physically connected (via USB) to the computer with which the user wishes to sync.
    4) The iPhone will use a network-appropriate mechanism of continually monitoring whether it has come into network connectivity with a computer to which it is paired. When it does, it prompts the user whether the user wishes to sync immediately.
4a) If the user responds yes, a sync begins
4b) If the user does not respond before the end of a timeout period, a sync either begins (or not, depending on a preference setting; the timeout can also be set in a preference).
4c) If either the sync is completed, or the user declines a sync request, the iPhone will again execute this discovery/sync-request/sync cycle periodically. (The period can be set in preferences. Default: 10 minutes).
    *Network support:*
    1) 802.11: The first priority is support for an 802.11 network. Syncs will only be completed when:
1a) The computer and the iPhone have been pre-paired (via iTunes, above).
1b) The iPhone has detected the 802.11 network, and the user has elected to join it, and the iPhone has successfully joined it.
1bi) (This means that when the iPhone detects an 802.11 network, it connects, and performs a lookup for the named computer with which it is paired (e.g. via Bonjour)).
1c) Syncs must be performed using encrypted IP connections (e.g. HTTPS) between the iPhone and the computer.
    2) Bluetooth: The second priority is support for Bluetooth. Syncs will only completed when the computer and the iPhone have been previously paired via iTunes & the iPhone / computer link over Bluetooth has been paired (in the Bluetooth sense of the word Paired.)

  • Sync preferences for Outlook

I used to be able to set the sync preferences under "info" in ITunes and they would be that way the next time I opened ITunes. No longer. Now I have to set them every time I sync my devices. In addition I have to open the sidebar every time I open Itunes. Isn't there any way to have the program open to the configuration I want? Also I'm tired of accepting the software license and closing other opening screens. All these things changed when ITunes upgraded--or maybe it was with IOS 7.
    Help please.

    Hi Snozdop,
Thank you for your quick and helpful reply. Yes it does seem astonishing that Microsoft is not helping with a problem that must be affecting many of their customers.
Actually pretty much all the appointments are already in iCloud as I exported them to Outlook for Mac as part of this recent burst of activity. So populating iCloud again will not be a problem, if I need to.
It is helpful that you have referred to Exchange. If I am hearing you correctly then you are saying that any appointments that I set up using email accounts that use Exchange can easily be set up to show on all of my devices. This means that if I set them up using Outlook for Mac, then I will not need to use Sync Services in Outlook for Mac to inform iCloud of my schedule.
But if I am also hearing you correctly, I will still need to use Outlook for Mac to set up the appointments because other people's Outlook systems will still not recognise calendar invitations sent from iCal, even if the email address used to set them up uses Exchange. Is that correct?
If so, then I suppose I can work with it - although it still seems somewhat elaborate. I would be using Outlook on my iMac and Macbook Air and iCal/iCloud on my iPhone and iPad - all connected via separate accounts using Exchange.
