ICal sync problem

Hi,
I can't sync iCal between my Mac Book and my iPhone. I get a message "Can't sync due to inconsistent data". What can I do?
Everything else (mail, address book, bookmarks) works fine.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Suzana,
Try Resetting the Sync Data as shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1998
If the issue persists, try the advanced Sync Services troubleshooting tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2481

  • IPhone 1.1.3 does not fix my iCal sync problems

    Still having my wonderful iCal sync problems.
    Got the old "iTunes could not sync calendars to the iPhone "name" because an error occured while merging data".
    Gettin' kinda old after at least a month.
    I've tried every suggestion in this group besides generating a new Admin account.

    ... wait a sec... oh wait a sec....
    I just may have fixed my problem. Deleted <user>/Library/Calendar (Leopard calendar) and <user>/Library/Application Support/iCal (Tiger calendar) and then deleted all data and settings on my iPhone and I can finally sync a darn calendar without iTunes complaining.
    Was even able to re-import one of my calendars and have it show up in...wait for it... BOTH places. OMG - welcome to the 21st century!
    Even got rid of duplicate birthday calendars my iPhone had been building up!
    Joy to the world! Woot Woot.

  • I just erased all my contacts on accident while trying to fix an ical syncing problem.  Please help!

    Hello There,
    I have NO idea what just happened.  I am trying to stay calm here.  Please help.
    I have been trying to fix the fact that my iphone calendar isn't sending info to my ical on my MacBook Pro.  I followed some instructions I found in a forum and then unplugged my phone haphazardly by not ejecting it from iTunes... I just pulled it off the cord and all my contacts erased in a blink of an eye.  Here's the instructions I followed.  Please tell me how I can get them back!  Can I call AT&T? BTW... the instructions didn't fix the ical problem either.
    (These are the instructions I tried from http://iphonewriter.blogspot.com/2008/05/how-to-fixing-ical-iphone-sync-issues.h tml) I added my own sidenote in Bold.
    Here's the down and dirty fix:
    Open iCal and backup or export your entries. Make a note of the fie name and location, you're going to need them in a minute. Once your backup/export is completed, close the iCal application.
    Open Finder and remove everything inside the "Username/Library/Calendars" folder. For instance, if your username is "Joe", then move everything inside the "Joe/Library/Calendars" folder.
    Open the iSync application. It's located in the "/Applications/" folder. Once iSync is opened, go into the iSync Preferences (iSync -> Preferences) and push/click the "Reset Sync History" button. Then, close the iSync application.
    Re-Open the iCal application and Import (File -> Import) a new calendar. When prompted, use your notes from Step #1 to select the file your created earlier. Once completed, close the iCal application (you should have all of your calendar entries back.)
    ***When I re-opened ical nothing was gone but I followed the following steps anyways.***
         5.  Open the iTunes application and connect your Apple iPhone to the computer.
         6.  Within the Advanced section of the Info tab for the Apple iPhone, check the box the overwrites/replaces the Calendar data on the Apple iPhone.
         7.  Click the Apple/Sync button. New, modified and deleted entries should now be syncing correctly.
    That's it! You should be all set and iTunes, iCal and our Apple iPhone should all be playing nicely as friends again. We've used the exact method to repair our own Apple iPhone at least once... maybe even twice.

    Hi,
    Can't you restore your iPhone via iTunes and use the "restore from last backup". I know when I has my phone replaced this copied all my contacts (from my last sync)back to my phone.
    Hope that helps

  • ICal syncing problems (with Lion?)

    I've only noticed this since upgrading to Lion but I am having problems syncing my phone and iCal via iTunes.
    To start, I spent almost 3 hours on the phone with Apple a few days ago and we thought we fixed the issue.  Here were the original problems:
    event made on phone would not sync to computer at all
    event made on computer would sync to phone but...
    it would also make duplicate events in one of two ways:
    would make identical event at same time on different calendar
    would make random New Event items where I never made them
    So, we spent 3 hours and basically fixed it
            Now, today, I'm having major problems with recurring events getting screwed up.  I'm a teacher, so I put in my teaching schedule via recurring events.  Fine.  Then I delete a week off for a break on the computer and sync and it still shows up on the phone.  Computer is blank and phone has weekly schedule still there.  So, I pick a day and manually delete events in the phone and sync again.  That day is now gone from phone and computer but the other 4 days of the week (which were blank on the computer) now REAPPEAR on the computer.
             Does anybody have any solutions or has anybody experienced the same?  My impression is that it started happening when I installed Lion.  I am not sure that is the case because I wasn't intensely using my computer in the month after I installed Lion.  Maybe it has to do with iOS?  Maybe iTunes?  It is really a horrible feeling to no longer trust your calendar program.  How do I know if it's accurate or not?
             What happened to the days when Apple just worked?!  That is why I paid a premium for this computer and phone.  If I want to troubleshoot important things all day on a Sunday I can save $1000 and buy a PC.

    Thank you for sharing Derek. I have exactly the same issues you described in your bullet points, and it started with the Lion upgrade (I even bought a MacBook Air at the same time...)
    When you say "we basically fixed it" -- can you share what the issue was and how you fixed it with Apple?
    Thanks

  • ICal Syncing problems with Exchange

    So I figured iCal was closely related enough to Mail and Address Book that I could post this question here. If there is a more appropriate section please just let me know.
    I have a user who is connecting to Exchange 2007 via Mail/iCal/Address Book in Mac OS 10.6. Well last week, his calendar just stopped syncing. When I went to check it out, I removed and then tried to re-setup the connection to Exchange and got an "incorrect password" error. The password is definitely correct as it worked logging in to OWA and when I setup his calendar on another computer. In addition I was able to setup a connection to my own Exchange calendar on his computer, but then had it fail when I tried his again.
    So my question is how do I totally reset iCal to "factory" without resorting to creating a new user profile and moving everything over? Obviously something of his credentials or account setup is malformed and saved in iCal. Here is what I have (unsuccessfully) tried so far:
    +a] shutdown iCal+
    +b] rm -rf ~/Library/{Caches,Caches/Metadata,Preferences,Application\ Support}/iCal+
    +c] rm -rf ~/Library/Calendars+
    +d] rm -rf ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices+
    +e] start iSync, open Preferences window and click Reset Sync History button+
    Any more ideas? Thanks in advance!

    Just as an update, I tried creating a new user profile to no avail. Still iCal is unable to connect to Exchange using his credentials. My next step is wipe the whole computer unless anyone has another idea.

  • Shared Gmail calendar iCal sync problem.

    I have a work gmail calendar that is shared between me a colleague that tracks our shifts. In gmail I see both his entries and my own. However when I sync in iCal I only see my entires. I've tried adding him as a delegate but nothing. Any suggestions?

    Here is the full Text from User marcmec again:
    Back up iCal (just to be safe)
    1) I disabled automatic syncing to .mac and in iTunes.
    2) I made sure (manually) that all appointments that were on my iPhone were in iCal
    3) In iTunes: did a "Replace information on this iPhone" with Calendars checked
    Tested sync - still didn't work
    4) In .mac sync preferences, in the sync panel, click advanced, click 'reset sync data', Replace Calendars on .mac with sync info from this computer.
    5) Do step 4 again but this time Replace Calendars on this computer with sync info from .mac.
    6) In iTunes, did step 3 again.
    Tested sync and all is working fine. Don't forget to re-enable automatic syncing to .mac and in iTunes if that was how you had it set up.
    I hope this helps.
    Will report on ipod touch in the in the evening or tomorrow... (TZ Europe)

  • Ical syncs with tungsten t2 but NOT with Tungsten E2 on same computer

    iMac 1.25 Ghz
    OS X 10.3.9
    Hotsync Mgr 3.2.1
    iSync 1.5
    Palm Desktop 4.2.1d
    Tungsten E2 - Palm OS Garnet v 5.4.7
    Tungsten T2 - Palm OS 5.2.1
    I have two Palms (one for me - one for wife). We also have two logins on the iMac.
    Objective: Sync with iCal, Address Book (i.e. not Palm Desktop utilities)
    My Palm (T2) has been installed for 2 years - syncing flawlessly
    Her Palm (new E2 - installed tonight) will sync Contacts but not iCal. When I place test entries into either the Palm or her iCal, iSync sees the new data and claims it has transferred it but it doesn't show up in the destination device. Both directions fail.
    It seems that the system is smart enough to connect the right Palm with the right set of iCal/Address Book whichever person is currently logged in and I have seen exactly the same problem, regardless of whether only one or both users is logged in (with Fast User switching).
    It seems as if lots of people have observed iCal sync problems with Palms while the other apps sync fine but I haven't yet seen somebody with two Palms like me having different experiences.
    Is there something particularly flaky about Tungsten E2 or is this an issue between two different versions of Palm OS?
    TIA
    Adrian

    Assuming that the issue outlined below is not the problem, and that you have unique HotSync names, have you tried logging out, having her log in, and performing an initial synchronization in iSync? Procedures for that are outlined below.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25611
    Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4, Palm HotSync: Fast User Switching - one Mac OS X user may sync at a time
    One logged in user may sync a PDA via Palm HotSync at a time. This applies to iSync Palm Conduits, too.
    When your computer is using Fast User Switching and other users are logged in, you can't sync your Palm OS-based device using Palm HotSync or iSync.
    This can happen if another account has already used Palm HotSync or iSync to sync a Palm OS-based device. Have the other person log out of his account. Log out of your account, then log back in. You should be able to sync.
    Before you perform the procedure outlined below, be sure that you are logged out and she is logged in, and that the drop-down preference pane which appears for her device in iSync when you press the Tungsten icon has legitimate calendar options selected.
    To reset and perform an initial synchronization, launch iSync and open the Preferences… dialog. Press the Reset Sync History… button, then perform an initial synchronization. When asked if you want to Replace or Merge your data, choose Replace. This will overwrite the data on her handheld, and subsequent synchronizations should work properly, so long as you are not logged in in the background.
    This issue has nothing to do with the different Palm OS releases embedded in your respective devices.

  • ICal Print List Hang / Font Issue / Sync Problems...

    Okay, here's a couple issues all wrapped up into one thread/post - reason is cause I suspect they may all be tied together somehow, but am not sure.
    Sync Problems...
    Regarding the Syncing problems, you can find an ongoing thread about @ http://forums.markspace.com/viewtopic.php?t=1632
    In short, some of us are having issues with events syncing to our Palm to the wrong timezone, causing them to be an hour off (usually within the new & old DST date change). Yes, all the usual fixes have been tried - pls read the thread noting "adairnet" and ymatto" postings.
    Also, in addition to this time issue, I have iCal events that I've deleted in iCal still show up on the Palm after one-way syncing!
    Print List Hang...
    Every week I print a "list" of events from a certain calendar. The past couple weeks I noticed some lines in the notes field printing on top of each other. Twas odd indeed, but I hadn't had the time to look into the reason. Then this week I was going thru my usual printing proceedure and now iCal locks up, hangs up, crashes, forcing me to force-quit the program. It's usually after I extend the dates beyond 2 or 3 days, but I've not been able to find a consistency. I've redone events thinking they were corrupt with no success.
    Font Problems...
    After the Print List issue above, I opened my Console program to see if it was reporting anything. At first it indicated that it could not find Helvetica Neue and would substitute it for Helvetica. This put me in touch with some font corruption - so I got rid of those bad fonts and activated Helvetica Neue which got rid of that message. But made me wonder if there are more font problems causing the print hanging & syncing problems. I have FontAgent Pro and do have some font issues that I'm trying to work out.
    But the Console is displaying another string of messages every time the Print List proceedure hangs up which I cannot figure out...
    2007-04-24 16:24:54.151 iCal[28975] NSATSGlyphStorage inconsistency. Cannot find run storage for character range {138 67} for CTRun 0xDBE87D0. Ignoring the run...

For apps linked on Tiger this will raise an exception. For earlier apps it will produce this one-time warning and continue with existing behavior (which is undefined).

    So, all of this is causing me to wonder if the iCal or SyncServices database is corrupt. Is there a way to dig into the iCal db and check for corruption &/or fix it?
    Or does anybody have any further suggestions on any of these issues?
    thanx.jason.

    RedKamel,
    The SyncServices folder should be avoided like "a swarm of bees". This article discusses some of the issues that can arise when the SyncServices folder is deleted or modified:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301920
    Data loss and Data corruption can result from deleting or modifying the SyncServices folder, and that data loss or corruption can be propogated to devices, .Mac, and other applications that sync with SyncServices.
    If you have isolated an issue with the other steps in your post, I would recomend speaking with AppleCare before removing that folder.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Sync problem from Tour 9630 to iCal

    I just upgraded from a Curve to Tour 9630, v.4.7.1.57. I previously used the Blackberry Desktop Manager for Mac to sync and back up all my info. Now I find that while my calendar entries from iCal sync to my Tour, the calendar entries from my Tour do not sync into iCal on my iMac. Any ideas on what may be the problem? I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

    Might want to check if there are multiple calendars setup on the BlackBerry. I have seen this cause calendar entries created on the device to not sync back to the Mac in both BDM and Missing Sync...Limiting the BlackBerry to one email calendar has worked well for me.

  • ICal v4.0.4/OSX.6.8 sync problem with iPad 3

    I've asked for help on the iPad forum twice now without a single response, so I am thinking that it might be an iCal/iTunes problem rather then iPad/Calendar one!
    I'll repeat the basics here and post this link (https://discussions.apple.com/message/21740855#21740855) to my iPad thread post which explains in more detail.
    Essentially, syncing between my iCal v4.0.4 (1395.7) under MacOSX.6.8 Build 10K549 and my Calendards under iOS 6.1.3 (10B329) on an iPad 3rd generation is erratic and unreliable.  I do not use iCloud and syncing is done via USB cable and iTunes v11.0.2 (26).
    What makes it worse is that the symptoms change!
    Currently, appointments created on the iPad do not sync across to iCal but appointments created in iCal do sync across to the iPad.
    Previously, existing appointments shown in iCal but which are subsequently edited show in iCal as expected but on the iPad as both the old and new entry.  Also, when creating an appointment in iCal the edit panel opens in the default calendar which is then changed to the correct calendar and actual data - the default panel and edited data both appreaded on the iPad.
    I have recently noticed that iCal periodically, yet rarely, presents a message when opening: Upgrading iCal Calendars and when this has completed, syncing returns to normal.  However, I have no idea what prompts that message nor how I could manually start an "upgrading" so that I can force a syncing correction.
    Complicated?  Well, it is rather difficult to explain what I mean as the problem is so erratic and inconsistent.
    I have tried the Apple suggestion here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627 and it made no difference whatsoever.
    In short, how can I get the iCal and Calendars to sync reliably and acurately?
    My forehead is somewhat flattened after I have spent many hours beating my head against a brick wall over this - please help before the wall gets damaged beyond repair!
    Message was edited by: iBozz to correct stupid typos!

    Well, being a bit short of time (and an alleged alpha type male who always rushes ahead of common sense!) I followed your instructions and added a few thoughts of my own along the way - specifically that iTunes might somehow be implicated in this curious affair as that was being used for the syncing. process.
    The result is, I hope you'll be delighted to know, success - syncing is now back to what I would have expected and what nature intended.
    For now that is, because there have been false dawns before and I expect the problem to return and haunt me again at some stage.
    But next time I'll be ready and will know how to confound and defeat the Apple Agents of Confusion!.
    What I did was ...
    backed up iCal to the Desktop in case it all went horribly wrong;
    sync'd without iCal/Calendars being checked in iTunes and thus all iPad calendars were initialised;
    powered off the iPad to remove any "RAM" type data being maintained;
    as earlier, deleted the iCal plist and all iCal/Calendar cache files but this time not only from the main user but from my DropBox and MacMate on-line back-ups (but not from Time Capsule as I wanted to have a fall-back position if it all went pear-shaped) by using Spotlight to look for all Calendar cache files wherever they might be.  I found a number of "document" files called Calendar Cache 17-22-4n n, one per day, stretching back to 23 03 2013 and these were located in my Dropbox folder.  Maybe that's the date when the current errors started to arise?  I really can't remember, but why would the iPad be looking for such files in my DropBox folder?  Most odd.
    reset the SyncServices folder;
    deleted the iTunes plist in case the "memories" of earlier appointments were in there - a long shot and probably a useless step, but I couldn't see any harm in doing it;
    logged out of my user and then back in again;
    relaunched iTunes to recreate a clean plist and then reset my preferences.  Quit iTunes;
    relaunched iCal to recreat a clean plist and then reset my preferences;
    turned on the iPad and connected it via USB lead;
    opened iTunes and reset the syncing options which were erased by resetting the SyncServices folder ealrier;
    sync'd the two devices.  iTunes reported that the iPad was "sync'd with another user" and asked if I wanted to Merge the data or Replace the data on the iPad - I guess that meant all data and not just iCal data as the latter had been cleaned from the iPad in the second stepo above.
    Selected Replace data and sync'd;
    entered a new appointment on iCal, another new one on the iPad and edited the times of an existing appointment on each device and re-sync'd ...
    ... and Robert's your mother's sister's brother's other brother!  Or Bob's your uncle, for short.
    Oh, I missed the final and most important step ...
    breathed a sigh of relief and hit the caffeine!
    I have no idea of which step is the one which resolved the issue so when (note when, not if) it happens again I'll repeat the process one step at a time (re-syncing each step) to see just where in the process the incorrect data is held.
    I'll report back on this thread if I do manage to narrow down the steps to the vital one(s) as I cannot imagine that I'm the only person in the world experiencing this bizarre behaviour.
    As I mentioned in other posts, this has happened more than once before but on those occasions it resolved itself without my intervention - save for me uttering a fair number of good old-fashioned Anglo-Saxon Oaths and Curses all the while the syncing was incorrect - and it was only recently that I noticed it corrected itself after an "iCal upgrade".  That may have been a coincidence, though, as forcing an upgrade deliberately did not cure it this time.
    So I'm pretty confdent it will happen again, but just what triggers this untoward behaviour is beyond me - I can't think of anything that I might do which causes it, nor can I begin to imagine from where the iPad collects the "historical" deleted appointment data which it then displays in addition to the "current" data on appointments.  Nor can I think why it suddenly takes it upon itself to sync (albeit incorrectly) from iCal to iPad but not the other way round.
    I didn't mention this before, but at one point I discussed this with an AppleCare Level 2 Support dweeb in Cork - and he was totally unable to fix it no matter what he tried, nor could he explain what was happenig and why!
    Many thanks for your advice and patience - you may consider yourself a Level 3 (or higher!) surrogate AppleCare Genius!

  • Do Reminders in iCal sync via iTunes?

    I'm using Reminders in iCal 5.0.1 on OS X Lion. I sync my iCal data with the Calendar app on my iPhone, via iTunes (not iCloud). The weird thing is, none of my Reminders data is syncing, either from my iPhone to my iMac, or from my iMac to my iPhone.
    Does the Reminders data only sync via iCloud?

    This doesn't help you, but I just recently started having the same problem, I just upgraded my 3G to 4.0 in iTunes so I don't know if that has anything to do with it but nothing on my phones calendar will sync to iCal. Events in iCal sync to the computer just fine thought. I hope someone can help me figure this out!

  • ICal sync prompts password which doesn't work

    Dear support team,
    Whenever my computer iCal syncs to my MobileMe, and thus to my iPhone, I get a prompt for a password that reads "Enter the password for your user account on 'End User's Computer'." When I type in my user account password it says "Sorry, you entered an invalid password. Please try again." I then type my keychain password and get the same message. I type my MobileMe password and get the same message, again. I have no other passwords to try. When I check iCal on my computer and phone, I see that the sync on iCal worked, regardless. Other than being annoying, the password prompt interupts FCP layoffs. So I set sync to manual, but forget to sync before I run to a location shoot with the incorrect unsynced info on my iPhone. I endeavor to find a solution.
    One of the articles on this site instructed me to use Keychain First Aid in Keychain Access. To verify keychain issues, it prompts for my user login password, which works. It then says that there was an error, which I then repair. I test the hopeful result by syncing to iCalendar, but get the same interrupting password prompt. Another article instructs to unlock the "login" and "System" keychains, in Keychain Access, to do something there. I had unlocked and snooped around both, before consulting the sites, but now my user login password no longer works to unlock the "login" keychain, and neither do my other two passwords. Oddly, my user login password works just fine opening the "System" keychain My safari keychain locks and unlocks just fine with it's password. I go back to First Aid and see that my user password works just fine, and see that there are no errors in the keychain system, but I'm now afraid to shut down my computer fearing that I won't be able to login ever again. I'm thinking about following another discussion instruction to reboot the entire computer with the original Leopard OS disk, but that feels like a last resort headache. I could pack up the entire computer and bringing it to the nearest Apple Store Genius Bar, but that will take half a day.
    I just followed a support instruction to reset the login keychain I was unable to open, restarted and tried the iCal sync with the same result as before. I can't think of anything else.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for taking the time to read this.

    Just fixed it by going to MobileMe Sync Preferences and unchecking the box for keychain sync. No more password prompts that say "Invalid." Now the iCal on both computer and iPhone sync without interruption of work flow. I had originally checked the box to sync keychains so that I wouldn't have to type in ID's and passwords to enter sites on my iPhone. Big glitch in the system. Why have the box to check if it creates problems? Hopefully they'll fix it once, or if, they become aware.
    Thanks for letting me think aloud.
    Peace
