ICal Sync w/iPhone 3G

Hi, perhaps someone can help me with a known solution.
I can no longer sync my iCal with my iPhone 3G & iMac (OS-X 10.6.8). It used to sync both ways and inform me of conficts.
I believe I've made the appropiate selections in the Sync iCal Calenders & Sync Address Book Contacts preference panes of iTuneswith my phone connected. I've even tried the Advanced 'Replace information on this iPhone' with the 1-shot sync. Nothing updates/changes... I've also tried completely shutting down both the phone & computer, running Disc Utilities Permissions Repair & Verifications.
Thanks,
Steve

****, that was a brilliant solution. To be clear, what was happening is that I could no longer sync calendars from the iPhone to the MB, but never lost that ability on the MBP. I would not have guessed your solution, as I've never even opened the iSync app, and had no idea it was in any way involved. Thanks, and I wonder if there's some way Apple could add this solution to their database for the Apple Care reps?

  • ICal sync from iPhone 3G no longer works with both MacBooks?

    Hi Group:
I've got an iPhone 3G, a previous gen MBP and a white MB, all running the latest software updates. For the past several months I have been able to enter iCal events on my MBP, sync to the iPhone using iTunes, and then sync the iPhone to the MB. For some reason I can't guess, that no longer works, and iCal events are not being transferred from the iPhone to my MB iCal app. Did this happen with the iPhone 3.0 software update (the timing seems about right)? I called Apple Care last night and they said only a .Me account would return that functionality, but denied this had anything to do with the iPhone 3.0 update. In fact, the rep said it never should have worked in the first place.
FWIW, here's the error messasge iTunes generates:
"iTunes could not sync calendar events to the iPhone because an error occurred while sending data from the iPhone."
That's the exact wording, and it doesn't really make perfect sense, either. So, is there a workaround for this, or a third-party app, perhaps? Did Apple make this change just to sell more .Me accounts? Finally, is there maybe an automated way to sync the iCal events between the MBP and MB across my Time Capsule network? Thanks in advance for any ideas.

  • Ical sync error: iPhone disconnected

I've tried resetting history, restoring the iPhone, waited for a software update due today, and turned off time zone support on both iPhone and iCal.
    What should I try next?

This process, which AppleCare gave me last night worked to solve my problem. However, I have one nugget to add to the fix, a faster process to try first.
    EDITED FROM PREVIOUS POST:
Try these steps to narrow down the offending calendar and/or event.
    1. create a new calendar in ical. Name it test, iphone or something.
    2. uncheck all your calendars in ical, so you can only view the events in the new calendar
    3. put a test event in the new calendar ( in the future). Call it Test 1.
    4. connect up your iphone and set the iphone to sync only to that new calendar.
    5. In the info tab that shows up when the iphone is connected, make sure to sync ical calendars is checked
    6. Set it to sync only selected calendars.
    7. in the window that shows all the calendars, only have the new calendar checked.
    8. put a check mark in the box not to sync items older than... Set it to 1 day.
    9. Now click apply in the bottom right side of itunes. (this will see if the iphone can sync to ical)
    10. Once you have established that the iphone can sync, go back into the info tab and uncheck the new calendar created and check only one of your old calendars.
    11. Click apply and try to sync the iphone to that particular calendar.
    12. Keep un-checking a calendar that syncs and check a different calendar until you run across a calendar that does not sync. The one that gives you a disconnect error.
    13. Now that you've narrowed it down to the offending calendar, you know that it has to do with an event from yesterday and forward. (ED.- in my experience, this DID NOT prove that the event was limited to the time you specify for the sync. But it does no harm to narrow the scope for iPhone.)
    14. Go back to ical and put a check mark in the calendar that is giving the issue. So now you see the new calendar created and the offending calendar.
    15. Now you need to figure out which event/events that are causing the problem.
*NEW STEP* 16. Fast fix (try this first, and if it doesn't work, you'll try the longer piecemeal process.)
Cut and paste All events to your new test calendar. The fastest way do this is to open the list of events by clicking on the list icon (3 lines) on the bottom left of ical.
    17. Sort by title and if any events show up with a blank title, fix these or delete them.
    18. Sort by type of item so you only select the events, and not any ToDo items.
    19. Shift click at the top of the list, shift-click at the bottom of the list and everything should be highlighted. Then, with the cursor on one of the items highlighted, Control-click and a menu will open. Select Calendar, and then your test calendar. This moves everything into your new calendar.
    17. Try to sync.
In my experience, ical fixed some items that were queer by moving them to a new calendar. My original calendar was imported from Outlook.
If this doesn't work, you'll need to try again by creating another test calendar and then moving over a few items at at time, syncing after each import, wading through your events until you find the culprit.
We return to our regular programming here:
    16. Start moving events over a few at a time to the newly created calendar and sync the iphone only to the new calendar. You can move events 2 ways.
16A. if you have the tray to the side expanded so you can view the details of the event, you can change what calendar it is in.
16B. At the bottom of ical there is a button to the right that allows you to view all evens in a list view. You can right-click or control-click on the event and move to a different calendar.
16c. *CORRECTION TO ORIGINAL POST* Sync iPhone.
    17. Keep following step 16 until you receive the the disconnect error.
    18. When you get the disconnect error again, you know that the last batch of events has the offending, or one of the offending, event/events.
If you run through all of your calendars and do not receive the disconnected error, then the data that was disconnecting the iphone was older data. (ed. -In my experience, this proved false. the error was buried in old data, even though I had the setting at "1" day.)

  • Triangulating iCal sync from iPhone to OS 10.6.8 MacBook (no iCloud)

If I sync my iPhone calendar to iCloud, then connect my iPhone to Macbook (OS 10.6.8) via USB, why don't the calendars sync?  That is, why wouldn't the calendar data on my iPhone "upload" to my MacBook via USB?

  • 1st ical sync with iphone...all events off by 2 hours

Why? All ical events got transferred to my iphone but the time is off by 2 hours...all iphone events are showing up 2 hours later than when I originally scheduled them in my iMac ical program (the ical events on my iMac are still displaying at the correct time)
Also, on my iphone, my 5 different ical calendars all synced, and all have a different color next to them, but the colors do not match the colors for the calendars created in ical on my iMac (ex: I created my dissertation calendar in red on my iMac but it shows up as orange on my iphone; I created my travel calendar in green on my iMac but it shows up as blue on my iphone, etc).
Does anyone know why this happened and how to correct?
    Thanks!

Hey that worked! I was unaware of that setting on my iphone. Actually, I left time zone support turned on, but set the time zone for Denver (I'm on mountain time) instead of the Washington, DC zone it was set for.
As far as the colors being off, we'll see if anyone else comes along with an idea for that one. (Too bad there's no setting to turn on for "keep the calendar colors the same!")
    In the meantime, THANKS!

  • Does reminders in iCal sync with iPhone 4s

Reminders in iCal works well and iPhone 4s has a pre installed app called Reminders but they do not sync together. Am I doing something wrong or is there a way to sync them?

Yes, they will sync from the iphone to ical via iCloud.  Show the reminders list in iCal > View > show Reminders.
Visit the options in iCal > preferences.. > Advanced tab  for options.
Now tell Siri on the iphone to "remind me to get a haircut in four weeks".  It should appear in the reminders list on the right.

  • ICal syncs with iPhone from Mac but won't sync Outlook events

    Hi,
I want to get all of my events from my Mac 2011 Outlook to sync through iCloud with iCal for my MacBook and iPhone. I've been able to get the events to show in iCal on my MacBook when I accept them from outlook, but they won't then sync with my iPhone unless I plug it into my computer? Is there any way to fix this? I also can't change any of the Outlook events once they're in iCal, I have to do so straight from outlook. The outlook events come in in their own calendar called "no category" that's grey. Any suggestions?

There is no such thing as a Mac or PC formatted iPhone. Follow the directions here if iTunes for Windows does not see the phone:

  • ICal sync with iPhone

Since I upgraded my iOS to 6.1.3 on my iPhone 4, my iCal is not syncing between my computer and phone. I've tried using the cloud to sync as well, but it still is not working. I'm also having problems with my contact list between the computer and phone.

I'm having the same problem.  won't update at all from ipad on ios 6.1.3 to iCal on imac using Mountain Lion (forget Outlook 2011 for mac), on iphone does not update imac iCal but puts a duplicate on the phone.
This is a totally frustrating issue, come apple you are losing any credibility you had!!

  • Trouble with iCal syncing with iPhone calendar

When I create events or meetings on iCal on my Mac, they don't appear on my iPhone 4 anymore. Anyone help please

Hey Thanks for your suggestion, however, and this may be part of the problem, I
accidentally deleted the software a little while back thinking I did not need it.
So, any suggestions on how I can get a download of iSync. I do not have Time Machine
running currently, so, that option is gone. So, do you have any other suggestions.
    Thanks...

  • Can I sync my iPhone calendar with exchange server AND ical on my mac ?

I have been happily using my iPhone synced with my Macbook over usb via iTunes.
I have contacts and iCal syncing. I have a number of 'calendars' set up in iCal which allow me to view separate aspects of home and work but they all exist within iCal. iPhone just treats these as colour coded appointments (different colour for each ical calendar)
I really like this set up.
However, I just changed jobs to a firm where they have a hosted outlook exchange set up and I need to use the exchange calendar for work appointments and showing my availability.
I have managed to setup my iPhone to work with the Exchange server for email as well as in apple Mail on my mac. This has all worked fine. However, I hesitated when iPhone asked if i wanted to sync my contacts and calendar. I said no as I was unsure if my private calendar/contacts would be uploaded to the public work area.
In fact it seems that this is the least of my worries:
As I have read on apple support for iPhone:
"Note that after configuring an Exchange ActiveSync account, all existing contact and calendar information on the iPhone or iPod touch is overwritten. Additionally, iTunes no longer syncs contacts and calendars with your desktop computer. You can still sync your iPhone or iPod touch wirelessly with MobileMe services."
So I am really pleased that I didn't let it sync those and wipe out my personal data if that is really true.
But now I am unsure how best to enable myself to view and update the work calendar on exchange.
Also it would be nice to see work contacts on my iPhone.
    Contacts
    - although i have said no to sync contacts with Exchange in fact it looks like I can get contacts ok - when i send email from the Exchange account on the phone , it searches Exchange contacts on the server as i type in the TO box.
    - also in Contacts on the iPhone I have a new group that has been created with the name of my Exchange account. The group appears to be blank when you go into it on the phone, but you can type in the search box and get contact details from the server just fine.
This seems workable for now for my purposes, although updating contacts is not going to be possible that way.
I'd like more info on that if poss but more importantly..
    Calendar
    - Unlike Contacts, no Calendar has been auto created for Exchange
    - Unlike contacts, I can't see how I can view or search or create an appointment in my Exchange calendar on the iPhone
What is the best solution to this problem - I presume lots of people face the same dilemma. My initial research suggests that there are multiple ways round this but all of them look like workarounds with various disavantages.
    Questions are
    - Can't I just set up Exchange as one of my calendars in ical?
    - Is it really true that I have to choose between syncing Exchange with work server OR syncing iCal with personal Macbook?
    - What is the best work around for this?
At the moment I am seriously considering getting a separate iPhone for work and have that sync with Exchange fully although that seems a bit drastic and does not solve the problem of seeing work and home appointments on the same calendar.

Can't I just set up Exchange as one of my calendars in ical?
Only if you're running Snow Leopard and your employer will allow access (different than iPhone/mobile device access, so most likely not), but not needed - keep reading.
Is it really true that I have to choose between syncing Exchange with work server OR syncing iCal with personal Macbook?
No. It was true, but with the v3.0 software that changed - you can now sync your Exchange contacts and calendar over the air, and your Address Book and iCal via iTunes over the docking cable.
What is the best work around for this?
None needed. When you set up the exchange account, and choose to turn on syncing of contacts and calendars, you will be prompted to remove all other data, or keep it on the iPhone. Choose the keep option. Note that in that case, your personal data will not be uploaded to the Exchange server - the iPhone keeps them separate (although you can choose to view them in a merged fashion).
I have this set up on my phone (Exchange calendar along side personal and other calendars from iCal). Same for contacts. Works great.

  • How do you sync two iPhones to the same ical?

    Hi there,

  • ICal not syncing to iphone

I'm creating notes in my iCal on my iMac. The changes show fine on
my calendar in my .mac account. But the changes won't show ont the
calendar on my iphone, even though I've selected to show the
    .mac calendars. Help!

Here are a few steps to try.
    1. Turn off .Mac Sync in System Preferences.
    2. Just to be safe, open iCal and back up your calendar. File -> Back up iCal.
    3. In iCal, export all your calendars as file(s). File -> Export.
    4. Delete all your calendars from iCal even subscribed calendars. You will have to create a temp calendar, because ical will not let you delete all calendars
    5. Now that all your calendars are gone, quit ical and reopen. This is just to make sure all calendars, except he temp calendar, are gone.
    6. Now open applications -> isync and reset sync history found in the isync preferences.
    7. After sync history is reset you can quit isync.
    8. Import the calendars you just exported.
    9. Open iTunes sync with iPhone, telling iTunes to replace all ical data on my iPhone . This is found in the advanced section ant the bottom of the info tab page.
    Hope this helps.

  • ICal not syncing to iPhone anymore!

I just plugged my phone in to my MacBookPro and everything but my ical synced. I went into advanced settings on the Mac and unchecked and rechecked sync all calendars; apply; and sync and still nothing.
When I go into 'calendar' on my menu bar in ical, I cannot choose "publish" anymore (it's greyed out)
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
    Thank you,

As Damon M. mentions above, Apple claims it's "normal" for the colors not to match what you choose in iCal. Sounds like an excuse to me...
There is a workaround, although it is something of a pain. The iPhone will apply calendar colors in the following order: red, orange, blue, green, purple. (If you only sync one calendar, it's blue).
Depending on the colors you want, you first need to create 'blank' calendars in iCal to 'use up' unwanted colors. Then, you need to sync the calendars, one at a time, in color order.
Go to the Info tab (in iTunes with the iPhone connected and selected in the devices list). With the Sync iCal calendars box checked, check the box for the calendar you want to be red, and scroll down to the Advanced Options and check the box to replace calendars. Then sync (if you look on the phone at this point, that calender will be blue, since it's the only one). Then, check the box for the calendar you want to be orange, then sync (don't check the replace box from this point forward). Repeat for blue, then green, then purple.
For example, if I want to have two calendars, Home colored blue and Work purple, I would create three new calendars - empty1, empty2, empty3 - then check the boxes in the following order, syncing between each: empty1, empty2, Home, empty3, Work.

  • ICal not syncing with iPhone???

When I sync my iPhone to my computer using iTunes, everything seems to sync except my iCal data.  Why?
I think I turned iCloud off on both my Mac and on the iPhone in case that was the issue but it didn't change anything.
I think it may have something to do with Mavericks which I just recently updated to from Mountain Lion because it was working perfect before.
    Mavericks 10.9.2
    iCal  7.0
    iTunes 11.1.5
    iPhone 5s  iOS 7.1

You must use icloud to sync ical with your iphone
