Ical unexpectedy quits on opening

I changed a setting on one of my gmail calendars I was having trouble with and now cannot get iCal to open up.  It unexpectedly quits each time I launch it.  Can I delete the preferences somewhere to allow me to open ical again? Do I have to delete the program entirely?  Not sure what to do.

OK I just solved my problem using time machine.  I went to Users/Myname/Library/Calendars and opened Time Machine, replaced the folder with a previous version and that fixed it!

  • ICal has lost all my entries and quits when opened

I know that people have had problems with iCal quitting unexpectedly and I have read through the posts relating to those problems, but nothing quite fits what has happened to me.
iCal has 'lost' all of my entries in the various calendars that I have set up, including the subscribed calendar of public holidays. When opened the spinning ball of death starts and then the program quits.
I have been on other user accounts which are synced with this computer and iCal is working/displaying normally. I have created a new entry in a calendar whilst logged on as another user.
When I have checked Library:Application Support: iCal there are 1,929 items in the Sources folder all created at the same time (I have only established 8 calendars + 1 subscribed in reality).
I have backed up a synced iCal from another user account, put it in User:Shared so it is now available on my desktop. Unfortunately when I try to open it, it hangs and iCal eventually quits again.
    Any ideas?

  • ICal quits on opening on iPad

iCal suddenly quits immediately after launching. This started today - no problems over past 6 months of use. My iPhone also demonstrates the same problem, but iCal on MacBook pro is working fine. All are linked to iCloud. Reset of the iPad did not solve the issue. Please help!!

Thanks Diavonex and computer.savvy for your kind consideration. This may be premature, but iCal is working again.  I turned off all the iCloud settings for iCal, and rebooted, but iCal would not load. Then tried turning iCal settings back on for iCloud, but it would not accept the attempt to do this. Only a mild panic at this point ... I turned off all iCloud settings for mail, reminders, bookmarks etc, rebooted, and, voila! I was able to turn on  cloud settings for all these apps, including iCal. Went to start iCal and it got up and has stayed up!!!  If this again becomes unstable I will try an iPad restore as per your suggestion, computer.savvy (I actually got out the connecting cable, intending to perform a restore from iTunes, and tried the above actions while I was waiting for the MacBook to boot).
Thank you for taking the time to reply - I love the Mac Community!!

  • ICal Suddenly Quits

iCal suddenly quits a few seconds after opening.  The problem started today and occurs on both iMac and MBAir running Lion 10.7.2  This is new behavior. While I am skeptical it is somehow date-related, it is odd that the problem started on the first day of the new year (did not turn on iCal 1/1/2012), and that it exists on two different machines.  Note that I do use iCloud and the calendars are supposed to sync.  Interestingly the sync appears to have failed.  I made a bunchg of changes on the iMac iCal a few days ago.  I hadn't turned on the MBA until this morning, after a few days off.  The MBA iCal shows the old version.
    Any thoughts?

You are misunderstanding the relationship, additions to the clients (any client) are pushed to the server, that is how the changes are propogated.
Suppose I make iCal updates on my iMac.  Then I make them on my MBA.  They both flow to the server.  Seems like chaos could result.  Is there any way to force a locla update before I start updating, so I know what I've got to start with?
I see no dilemma, the updates you make on your iMac will flow to iCloud and your MBA, making it unnecessary to do it again, stop thinking sync, this is not a sync system, there is no conflict

  • My iCal won't stay open

I've had this problem a couple times, but when I open iCal, and then close the window (i.e. clicking the red circle in the window, not quitting the program), iCal doesn't stay open.  This is annoying because if iCal isn't open, it won't send me the reminders I need.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

    James,
    You are welcome!
You can now safely trash the plist file on your Desktop.
Plist (Property List) files contain instructions for recording and executing tasks associated with the the application or function that owns them. They can and do become corrupted. If you look in the ~Library/Preferences Folder you can usually guess what application or function the .plist serves by analyzing the file name. In your case I suspected com.apple.iCal.plist
Proper identification of the appropriate .plist is not always so obvious, but for example com.apple.iCal.plist is the preference file for iCal. When an application malfunctions, removing the associated .plist file from the preferences folder to the Desktop is often the best first troubleshooting step.
If you have a problem with an application, Quit the application, find the associated plist file in the Preferences Folder, and move it to the Desktop as a first step in your troubleshooting procedure. Then log out/in or restart and re-evaluate the performance of the application.
A new default .plist file is automatically created in your Preferences Folder after you remove the recalcitrant .plist and initiate the log out/in restart sequence. You can expect default application behavior and you will have to reset some preferences. If the application or function returns to normal after removing the .plist file, it will prove that the original file was corrupt, and you can now safely trash the .plist file which you placed on the Desktop.
If the application or function is unsatisfactory, the original copy of the plist file which was placed on the Desktop can be returned to the preferences folder. Just allow the system to replace the newer plist.
If you are having problems with any aspect of OS X, experiment with deleting the appropriate .plist file. Plist corruption is common and .plist file deletion often cures many problems. Too many users try intricate solutions first and end up complicating their problem.

  • Apps quit when opening PLEASE HELP!!

about two days ago i tried to log onto microsoft messenger but when it was logging in it quit and came up with an error message and asking to send a report to apple. I also tried to log on to msn with aMSN and the same thing happened. then later that day when i open certian safari web pages (it normally happens on myspace) it just quits halfway through opening a page. now when ever i open safari it tries to load the homepage but quits.
and now it seems lots of my programs are quitting randomly. Now it quits when opening iMovie, when i try and run iWeb it says it cant find my web pages i have made and then quits, dashboard widgets dont load and then hang, even the help viewer crashes as soon as i open it. and to top it all off the paim rest area of my macbook is starting to stain.
anyway so far i have verified the macintosh HD and it says its fine. but when i try to verify or repair disk permissions it says there is an error and has to quit. I have also done the hardware test and its all fine.
i have tried putting the install disk 1 that came with the macbook in and booting from it by pressing c. what is supposed to happen because it seems to be booting normaly. it just goes to the regular desktop and when i try to repair the disk with disk utility it wont let me so maybe it hasnt booted from the disk properly

  • Premiere Pro CC 14 won't quit or open projects

    Hi-
Here is my situation.  My HD crashed in my iMac last week and it has been replaced by Apple.  I've now reinstalled all of my apps.  Everything seems to be working fine except for Premiere.  I can open Premiere, open a project and it loads fine.  If I try to quit or open another project while Premiere is open, it does nothing.  Literally nothing.. just sits there like nothing had happened.  Even if I can get to the open project window, I'll select the project to open and then it just returns to the current project... with no options to save, cancel, etc.  I can still work in the project after this.. no spinning pinwheel or hang up.
I did use a Time Machine backup to get a lot of my files back.  I'm not sure if that messed up permissions or what, but I have followed the steps listed by Kevin here to no avail Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later) .
One thing I did try was making a new user account with admin privileges and Premiere seemed to work.  The only issue is that many of my other programs don't work because the serial # is associated with my main user account.
Here are the specs of my machine:
    iMac 27" late-2012
    3.4 GHZ i7
    32 GB DD3 RAM
    OS X 10.9.5
Any help would be much appreciated since I'm close to a stand still since I can't move from project to project.
    Thanks,
    -Mark

    Just to follow up..
I was able to contact Adobe via their online chat. I had a representative do a screen share to figure out what was going on.  From what I can tell, he went in and repaired permissions for my Applications folder, updated the CUDA driver and deleted all of the "Adobe" folders in the user profile and the system profile.  After that, he re-opened Premiere and everything seems to work now.  It must have been some corrupt file in one of the Adobe folders OR a bad permission.  Either way, I thought I'd report back.

I downloaded the iOS7 and I can't force quit the open apps. I was told, "Force-quitting apps is a little different though: Instead of tapping and holding on the icon, you flick a thumbnail up to dismiss it." Unfortunately, that didn't work. Any comments please & thank you

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. Prior to loading 1OS7 it was easy to force quit applications that were still open by double clicking and seeing an a red "x" you had to click on.
It doesn't work that way with the new operating system and the instructions that were given "Force-quitting apps is a little different though: Instead of tapping and holding on the icon, you flick a thumbnail up to dismiss it."
    Do not work.
I am looking for anyone who can help figure this out.

  • Quit all open dock applications at once?

Is there a way to quit all open dock applications at once? I find it time-consuming to go in and quit applications I have used in the dock one at a time.
May be I don't understand why they even stay open after I quit what I was doing with them? Is it possible to set it up that way? I find it is not very Mac-like
to have to go in and quit 5 or 6 items in the dock one at a time. Can you please shed some light on this for me? Thank you for your time and patience.

No, but there is an alternative.
Press command+tab to show the application switcher. While keeping the command key held down, you can press q on a selected application to quit it. The only one you can't quit is the Finder (as this is the application that shows you your Desktop).

  • How to quit all open applications/windows?

I have had Leopard since Halloween. How can I quit/close all open windows/applications in one fell swoop rather than go through the Dock and quit/close each one separately?
    ~Lorna
    http://web.mac.com/lorna6

An easier way might be to do an Option , Command, Escape ... and force quit all the apps.
At least you would know for sure what is open .... rather than relying on the semi invisible dock indicator ...
Probably faster too ... unless there is some issue about force quitting that I'm not aware of ...
You would want to quit all open apps on any software update, installation .. or when you're running something like Cocktail and cleaning your caches ....

  • Logic crashes when trying to save/quit or open in 10.6.8

Logic crashes when trying to save/quit or open in 10.6.8 on Logic 9.1.4
Done everything like repair permissions etc.
Reinstalled both Logic and OS 10.6 (then updated to 10.6.8)
    Still doing it.
    Any advice guys?

    OK,
I have installed logic 9.1.5 from the apple site and run that, still same problem.. so i have finally managed to get my hands on the logic 9 disc.. it says on the apple site to remove logic 9 from your mac, to simply drag the logic app to trash and reinstall. i did this with 10.6.0 installed and run it and still error. I then combo updated to .4 .6 and to .7 without updating logic still error.. Then i have combo updated to 10.6.8 still error.. finally i installed the 9.1.5 update direct from the site on 10.6.8 and that hasnt worked either..
My question is, even though on the apple site it says to drop the app to the bin and reinstall, does this remove all necessary files? or do i have to do it manually and if so can someone tell me exactly what needs to go,before i try a proper reinstall.
    Thanks
    Brad
