  • Is there an ical update from 2.0.5 when running os 10.4.11

is there an ical update from 2.0.5 when running os 10.4.11.
i don't think i can update my os on this powerbook (powerPC), so does that mean i can't update the ical?
trying to use sync software and it appears that my version of ical will not work with the free software i've found.
    any ideas?
    thanks,

Nope, that is the last ever version of Firefox for 10.3.9 and earlier versions.

  • Can iCal update while closed?

OK, here's my problem: When I enter an event on my iPhone or iPad or on me.com, it only shows up in iCal after I open iCal. In other words, if I associate an alert with an event on my phone, that alert will never go off on my Mac, unless I left iCal open or I happen to open it sometime before the event.
Now, I just spent some time on chat with Apple and was told that this is normal behavior, that iCal only updates from me.com when it's open. But Address Book updates just fine when closed. And I'm 99% sure that the me.com support guy was wrong, that iCal updates like Address Book. Or DID.
Has the behavior changed? Have I lost my mind and iCal never, ever updates when closed?
I'm willing to accept that I'm completely wrong about this, but I wanted to throw it out to the community and see if anyone else a) remembers the experience the way I do and/or b) knows of any workarounds/apps that will allow me to receive iCal alerts on my Mac without needing to leave iCal open all the time.
    Thanks!

Under the old system, which used SyncServices as does Address Book, updates could take place even while iCal wasn't actually running.
With the new MobileMe calendar, because iCal isn't really syncing but is reading the calendar off the MobileMe server (much the same as webmail) updates can only take place while iCal is actually running. This means that if you add an event with an alarm on another device while iCal is not running, the event won't be added until iCal is opened and may well be missed.
In order to be sure you would need to run iCal but hide it, so that it won't be visible and in your way but can still update.

  • I don't get any iCal updates on my iPhone since I'm using iCloud, any help?

I don't get any iCal updates on my iPhone since I'm using iCloud, any help?

Yes. On your phone make sure it is set to send messages from your phone number, not your apple id or other email address. That way when they reply it will go to your phone.

  • Need link for iCal updates (they are not showing on Software Update)

Apple's iCal update page does not give an actual update - it just gives instructions on how to use OSX 'Software Update'. Software Update doesn't show any iCal updates when I run it.
I need the latest versions for Panther 10.3.9 AND the version for Tiger 10.4.9
So what is the bonafide link to getting iCal updates/versions?
    Anyone know? Thanks.

    mrchauncey,
iCal 1.5.5 is the most recent for Panther, and can be downloaded from here.
In order to obtain the most recent version for Tiger Mac OS X 10.4.9, you can use the Custom Install feature from your Mac OS X installation disk. Then use the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update to bring the iCal version up-to-date for that release of Tiger.

  • How to get iCal update itself?

Hello. I have a problem with my iCal. What can I do to make it update itself? Like, the date? Is there something I can do to make iCal show the right date, without having to click on it first, and wait for the program to pop open? This is something I miss from the Microsoft Windows.. it´s so hard to know wich date it is now! For almost 2 years, my iCal program has shown "17.07".
Most likely a microscopic problem for others, but I would be so incredibly overjoyed if anyone understood what my problem is, and could give me a tip

    Charlotte,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The current date in Dock on the Tiger version of iCal will only show (as you have noted) when iCal is running.
You could set iCal as one of your Login Items (System Preferences...>Accounts>"My Account">Login Items), and make sure that "Hide" is checked.
I only have 756 MB of RAM on my G4 iMac, and running iCal continuously causes no problems.

  • Please make iCal update the date in the dock!!

If I leave iCal open for several days, the date in the icon on the dock remains unchanged. I have to quit iCal to get the date to update (the current date shows as soon as I quit iCal; I don't even have to restart the application.

Linc -- thanks so much! This fixed it. I had posted the same question a few months ago, but never got an answer. I do appreciate your assistance.

  • Ical - update/changes online?

Is it possible to make changes to the ical from a pc for example via imac (ie log in and access a published calender)?
Can those changes then be synced so it is also changed on the main ical?
    Thank you!!

No, it is not. Published calendars are read-only.
In about five months, Mac OS X 10.5 will ship with a new CalDAV-compliant version of iCal, with the ability to share editable calendars between users and provide remote updates using iCal, Teams (or other compliant clients) and the iCal Server.
General information about future iCal features is available here:

Beyond what is published there, not much detail is available, as those with access to more detailed data about the Leopard applications are prohibited from sharing the information due to non-disclosure agreements.

  • Ical update won't sync with macbook

I went ahead and updated to the new ical in MobileMe--seemed like it was necessary.  It works fine with my iphone but since update yesterday i get nothing on my laptop.  My calendar on my laptop is now empty.  Do I have to upgrade my OS (I'm on 10.5.8)?  Starting to question whether MobileMe is a waste...

    steamboatviolin,
MobileMe: Using Mac OS X Leopard v10.5.x with the new MobileMe Calendar should help you sync with your MacBook.

  • Ical update

When I open ical it automatically goes looking for updates & freezes there. How can I get past this?

    Welcome to the discussions, Matsuda.
Do you mean updates to calendars you are subscribed to? You could try disconnecting from the network, then starting iCal.

  • Ical update question?

If I set up a subscription ical with alerts, If I add a new event with an alert it will update the subscription file, but will the other subscriber get an updated event/alert Without opening/updating the ical app. (the subscription for the other subscriber is setup  to update daily..If that matters)

    James,
Unfortunately there is no such update.
    I have placed iCal in my Login Items (System Preferences...>Accounts>My Account>Login Items>Hide [✓ ]).
iCal is always available for use and the date in the Dock is always correct. I can switch to iCal at any time and when I am done consulting iCal I use the (⌘+H) command to hide iCal without quitting. Leaving it open but hidden is the price you must pay to see the current day in the Dock.
You can submit OS X Feedback with your personal recommendation for your desired method of implementation.

  • ICal Update failure to sync

I responded to the invitation to update to the latest version of iCal but part way through the update my screen background was changed to a version from 2009 and the sync ran for over two hours but failed to produce any data in my mobileme version of iCal.
iCal (previous version) continues to work as a stand alone on my iMac but syncing does not work between computer and Mobileme.
After numerous attempts to sync I reported the error to Apple.
Any advice please would be most welocme

First, try the simple fix: back up all data, then delete the calendar account and add it back. Test.
If there's no change, then you may be trying to access an event in a shared calendar that you declined. The error message should give you a clue as to what it is. If the calendar is on iCloud, you can bring up the Calendar on the website and select
    Show Declined Events
from the popup menu with the gear icon in the upper right corner of the page. The declined events will appear in gray, and one of them should match what's shown the error message. [Credit for this solution to ASC user Psi.]
If you get the error when trying to accept an invitation in an email attachment, it's because the organizer didn't properly create the event.

  • ICal Update Fiasco: Publishing to web site

This latest update seems to be a total disaster!
First, the disappearing items from all calendars. After syncing them back from MobileMe, all my calendars now show up under a MobileMe directory instead of On My Mac. What about if I didn't have a MobileMe account? What if I cancelled my MobileMe account? Would I lose everything forever?
Now, the calendars that I have published before inside iframes at my web site will not update.
I have several, but previously I just had to specify "http://ical.me.com/cwhaley/Toronto_Live Music" as the SRC in my iframe and the latest version of the calendar appeared there. Now, no events have been updated since the latest update fiasco. Can this be fixed?
The previous Publish routine was so simple. Now it's a mess.
    Help!

It's very frustrating! At least you seem to still have your On My Mac Calendars. Mine disappeared and I don't know how to get back to having my events on my computer. I have some duplicate calendars (for no reason) but they're all on MobileMe. I don't want to be a slave to that service.
Unfortunately, Apple employees don't contribute to these forums. It's all volunteers... folks who apparently know a little more than us.
Generally, I've been happy with the help I've been getting through Apple Discussions, but no one seems to understand what's going on with these latest iCal problems.
I'm used to help within a couple days. These iCal problems go back to mid-December.
I guess we'll just have to be patient, but I really depend on iCal to be stable and reliable.. both on my desktop and my various published calendars.

  • ICal Update error

When iCal on my laptop tries to update an entry I get:
    ERROR WHILE UPDATING
Request encountered an unexpected error (domain AYFTPErrorDomain / code 550).
The .ics is on a private server.
Google search shows quite a few problems like this when users are trying to publish but I can publish and subscribe just fine.  In fact, I've unpublished and republished several times. I can also subscribe from my laptop and another one.   I've set the folder on the server to 777 - and also the .ics - which exists and has all entries.  It's only when I add or change an entry and the update tries - then it fails.
This appears to be a fairly recent problem.  Anyone have any ideas about what's causing this??

I'm having the same identical error message after installing Lion last night. I have had to resort to the app BusyCal until I can get this sorted out. I might add BusyCal has a much cleaner facade i.e. no fake leather surround ... yuck! It loaded all my current appointments from the iCal and syncs perfectly via the Cloud with my iPod and iPad 1.
If I secure any insight into this misque I'll post it promptly.
