ICal very slow feature on iPod - Why???

Been having problems with my Palm device (it's old... maybe time to update). I thought since I almost always have my ipod with me that I would sync my iCal and Address book to it. iPod won't do what the Palm will but at least have my current appointments in front of me. Address book works wonderful. It opens fast and has all the contacts I wanted in it.
iCal on the other hand is a disappointment. With or without music playing it seems to take it's old sweet time to open the calendar. Slow, very slow. It is also very slow to open a date on the calendar. And once a date is open I only get the first line or so of an appointment.
Am I doing something wrong with the iPod or is it just slow, slow, slow??? Anyone else using their ipod to keep track of their daily appointments? How is yours working???

Hey CDN_Jose,
Make sure the iPod touch is plugged directly into a USB2 port on the PC and not into a hub, monitor, or keyboard. Also, disconnect other USB devices except for the keyboard and mouse.

Test with the iTunes library on your PC's local disk, syncing songs from the local disk(not an external drive).

My photoshop cs6 seems to be running very slow lately--not sure why?

Have you tried resetting your PRAM?
    Shut the Mac down.
Holding the Cmd+Opt+P+R keys, press the power button.
Listen for the "startup chime" to sound three times and release the keys.
It should run better after it finishes booting up.

  • Touch is acting very slow lately...why?

I've noticed over the past couple days that my iPod has been very slow. It's like it starts checking for mail and just keeps checking and checking and then it'll freeze for like, 3 or 4 minutes before it's usable again.
It'll act the same way sometimes when I simply want to swipe between pages or even open up the note pad or something. It's really odd because I've never had any problems with it up until this point.
I've gone in and changed the push settings, emptied out my history and cache for safari, deleted a couple apps that I thought may be causing it, but it's still doing it. Any thoughts on why this might be happening and how I might go about fixing it? Thanks

how much memory are you using up?
might be worth doing a restore, will clean it up. i restored my ipod yesterday and managed to free up a lot of the memory from 'other'.

  • ICal VERY slow

    Hello,
iCal has been giving me a lot of problems, when I turn it on it takes about 10 minutes for the little beach ball to stop spinning and it finally pulls up the calendars. I have 2 subscriptions and 1 publish calendars, when I do "refresh" it also takes about 5 minutes. I have about 5 calendars in total, dating back to about 2 years ago with information. I used to run this on my 3 year old PowerBook G4 12 inch laptop and it NEVER took so long, on this brand new MacBook it's been this slow.
Lastly, when I sync my iPhone, it gets slow on the CONTACTS and VERY slow when syncing CALENDARS.
Does anyone have an idea of what I can do?
    Please, please, please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is really slowing down my work load.
THANK YOU for reading my post.
    Bruce

I just transferred 8 years of data from my palm os to iCal using iSync, in preparation for switching to an iPhone. The transfer went smoothly, but iCal was running way too slowly. The other problem is that I have over 200 completed "to do's" that are showing up and that cannot be deleted. I also found that by closing the to do list, iCal began running much better. I suspect that if I can delete all these unwanted to do's, then it would be OK. I set the preferences to delete completed to do's, but this has not worked. Anybody have any suggestions?
    Thanks

  • Very slow at the startup why?

its very slow on the startup also after the clearing of cookies and caches and all unecessary bookmarks and history

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

  • ICal very slow on each edit

I'm having this problem with iCal 5.0.1 and Lion on two different iMacs: a 2010 i7 and a 2008 Core 2 Duo. Both are up to date with system updates, etc.
The problem is this: each and every time I edit iCal -- new event, change an old event, edit a current event, etc -- iCal takes 10 to 30 seconds to update. I get the spinning beachball each time. Sometimes the menu bar title says 'iCal ... updating', sometimes not. Then the very NEXT mouse click in iCal, anywhere, gets me another spinning beachball for another 10 to 30 seconds.
This does NOT happen with iCal 5.0.1 on my brand-new MacBook Air running Lion (came installed). Both the iMacs were updated to Lion from SL, etc.
I can sync the calendars without problems between the three computers and with my iPhone 4 and iPad 2, all via iCloud. An event entered on one device shows up properly on the other devices.
The slow-down problem was happening when I was using MobileMe to sync but was not as bad; it's much worse now that I'm syncing with iCloud. Likewise, it occurred when the iMacs were running SL but not as bad; now much worse with Lion. On each iMac, I changed the 'refresh calendars' in the Accounts tab in preferences from 'push' to 'every five minutes' but that hasn't helped. I am syncing three calendars ('home', 'work', 'consulting') via iCloud, and one calendar on the Mac.
Each calendar has a number of events. I edited all the repeating events so that they all end at the end of 2012, wondering if perhaps repeating to infinity was a problem, but that hasn't helped.
On both iMacs, I have trashed the iCal.plist in my library preferences and then logged-out/logged-in, but that also hasn't helped.
Any suggestions? iCal is pretty much unusable on the iMacs.
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

I had the same issue, almost exactly. This worked for me:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15676949#15676949
Application UI issues are in most cases, caused by a corrupt plist file.
Quit iCal, and try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Since that Library is now hidden, you have to use the Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart and check iCal for functionality.
    (Many thanks, Ferd II)
But in order to see the files and folders I used Tinker Tool:

  • Ical very slow!!  18,145 .calender folders!!

I just upgraded to Panther the other day... no problems. I go into work Monday and mail start to run slow also iCal takes forever to load and when it does iCal has double and tripled the events on the left... and by tripled i mean their are 100's.
I did some research here and found nothing that appeared to be the same as my problem. I did hear a lot of people mentioning the "library" folder so I checked in there then looked in calenders. Well in there I found 18,145 .calender folders and from talking to some people most only have four or five depending on how many "events" you have created (home, work...) Anyway decided to erase them all and well that worked except to find out a couple hours later that all the .calender (all 18,145) were all back.
Can anyone tell me if this is normal ???

I asked there also. Got 0 responses there. I will try something else now.
The slow transfer rate is trouble for me beacuse my apache has to read like 16MB of files every time I want to view changes that I made in the web page. I just realized I could workaround this issue. I would put my 16MB of files in some other folder where I run apache in virtualbox and only sync those files with the files that I made changes on windows.
I would try samba or anything else but can't find a complete up to date howto nowhere online.

  • ICal Very Slow (Spinning Wheel) in 10.5.2

While my iCal is delayed, I have time to send this note.
Since Upgrading?? to 10.5.2, I have found that iCal delays after typing a few letters.
Anything I can do to fix this?
    All was perfect in 10.5.1.
I am starting to look for other calendar programs, this has become very, very annoying.

    Hi,
    You're welcome.
Have you tried Sunbird from the folks at Mozilla? http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/sunbird/download.html
    It's cross-platform too.
I have only used it to make sure that I can subscribe to my published calendars (and thus, that Windows users can subscribe using Sunbird on Windows), never as my main calendar program.
There are some other, system-wide things that you can try to alleviate the problem. It could help, and can't really hurt:
    - restart in safe-boot mode. (hold shift down while booting)- this does disk file system checks. Reboot normally before using your system for anything.
    - run permission check - start Disk Utility.app, select disk, check permissions.
    - There are some 3rd party programs that can clean up your system too. Not sure of which ones are best for 10.5. I've used MacHelpMate in 10.4. Cocktail is another one to look at.

  • Very slow transfer to iPod....

    Hi Folks,
I have a Macbook Pro and I'm trying to transfer a bunch of music to a video iPod. I've always used my windows machine in the past but now I'm switching over to just using the Mac. The problem is, on my Mac, it's unbearably slow! I'm using the supplied USB 2.0 cable and it takes forever. When I hook back up to my windows machine and use the same USB 2.0 connection it's MUCH faster, as the 2.0 should be.
    Any thoughts? Thanks for reading!

    HI,
Make sure there is sufficient disk space on your PBook.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.

  • Very slow synchronizing templates. Why?

During boot-up, Contribute seemingly freezes during the template synch'ing phase.  Sometimes it finishes in 15 minutes, sometimes does not finish, even after 8 hours.  This is a new situation that began within the past couple of weeks. Manually copying templates and support files from the server to Contribute's 'sandbox' on my C drive functions as expected - very fast.  This 'slowness' is also affecting Editing and Publishing.  Adobe tech support is not able to help. Following is our configuration:
    Contribute CS3 - 46 licenses
    CPS 1.1
    Operating System: Windows Server 2003
    Web Server: IIS
    Browser: Microsoft IE
    Database type: UNKNOWN
    Application server: TOMCAT

    Update to my last post:
Discovered incorrect pathnames to non-existant css and js files in the templates.  Am fixing now. Will reply with results. Stay tuned...
Fixing the incorrect pathnames increased the synch speed to near normal expected timeframes. Note that this sync takes place AFTER a connection is already made and a user is simply logging in to Contribute for the day.  Seemingly, case solved, right?.... Wrong!
For NEW, first-time connections, the sync process is still taking 45 min - 8 hours.  As I understand the process, all that is happening is the physical copying of templates, css, js, icons, ... and like files from the staging server to Contribute's sandbox on the user's C drive.  Manually copying the files using Windows Explorer operates at normal speeds. Ironically, if I do perform this manual copy, and then start Contribute, the sync process is very quick and near normal expectations.  It's that initial sync on first-time connections that has me baffled. Grrrr!!

  • My Lightroom very slow don't know why ?

I have my catalog hosted on a SSD drive, and I backup it up to another SSD. If I close lightroom and copy past my catalog (almost 8GB) it copies over at a nice 315+ MB/S and is finished within 25 seconds. However, if I choose backup in LR even with optimize and check integrity turned off it takes 5+ minutes.  I've never had any issues with my copy paste method, but is LR doing something important with that extra 5 minutes?

Five minutes seems reasonable to me for such a large catalog. Yes, Lightroom is doing important things, like optimizing your catalog, which takes CPU power. I would make regular backups with integrity check turned on.

  • Any ideas? In the history may iPad never crashed but after updating to iOS 5 it crashed every 30 minutes, and browsing is very slow

Any ideas? In the history may iPad never crashed but after updating to iOS 5 it crashed every 30 minutes, and browsing is very slowAny ideas? In the history may iPad never crashed but after updating to iOS 5 it crashed every 30 minutes, and browsing is very slow

I found the reason why our iPads are slow after iOS 5!!!!!!!
What you need to do is this:
    1) launch settings, go to mail contacts and calendars, go to fetch new data, advanced, and set iCloud to fetch.
    2) go back and set an interval of when to fetch. Mine is set for thirty minutes.
    3) make sure on top push is still on, that means that all your emails will still be pushed, but all the iCloud sync (contacts, calendars, reminders, bookmarks) will happen at the interval you choose.
Restart the device. Your performance should be 10x faster! No more keyboard lag, nothing! Doing this puts less stress on the A4 chip, which we know we need every bit we can get with it now!!!
    Optional:
    1) in the settings, go to safari.
    2) clear all history and cookies/data
    3) enable private browsing. One of the biggest reasons why devices are slow is because it keeps all the history and cookies in the RAM. You need more RAM to make things faster. By turning on private browsing, it never records it!

  • I just bought my Iphone 5, why is it that it is very slow or hard to connect when nearby wifi stations unlike the Ipad/Ipod units?

I just bought my Iphone 5, why is it that it is very slow or connot connect at all when nearby WIFI stations unlike the Ipad/Ipod units?

Have already taken the necessary steps but to no avail.  I would like to take this oppurtunity to inquire from Iphone 5 users if they experienced the same..the gadget is very slow in picking up WIFI signal unlike the Ipad/Ipod units.. If this is the case then its a big draw back for Iphone 5..it's also draining its battery fast.

I am having the same problem. Did turning off iCloud work? Did you just turn everything off or did you actually delete the account off your iPod?
