ICal view question

New Mac Book Pro user.
Just bought last night and am setting up calender.
iCal is displaying events from 1:00pm and later but will not allow me to view or add events earlier.
Is there a simple fix for this?
With thanks from a new Mac user.
Don

Thank you both for the response, even the one that inferred I was a twit.
The reason I posted the question is that the preferences in iCal are 5:00 am to 5:00pm but but the view on the calendar is 12:00 pm to 12:00 am.
I had assumed the comment associated with "preferences" was some place other than iCal as they appear to be set correctly.
Is it possible that there is a problem with either the software or some setup in the computer date and time controls?
Thanks again for any comments,      Don

    I cannot find the reminder list in teh iCal view pane. Pls help

    That's because reminders were moved out of iCal/Calendar in Mountain Lion and into their own dedicated Reminders app.

    Posted in wrong section, deleted...

    Timothy,
    The only missing feature that you can display with Lion iCal is "Reminders:" iCal>View>Show Reminders.
    Mini calendars are no longer an optional display feature.

  • ICal Mini-Month View question

    A quick question.
    Using iCal on Leopard...I noticed the mini-month view doesn't show any marks on it for days that have events. I seem to remember a little dot on the days, in Tiger. Or am I just spoilt looking at the month view on the iPhone, or iPod Touch?
    Is there anyway of having it have little dots or halos or anything to indicate when I have an event on a certain day in the mini-month view?

    Last thing about iCal which I think could be fixed, is that it would be easier to type down events and making line-breaks if one whouldn't have to hold 'Alt' in while doing it.  I make line-breaks much more often than I finish editing an event (in which case you just press enter or click outside the event you were editing).  It would be better to press 'alt' + 'enter' in order to finish editing an event, and reserve the action of just pressing 'enter' for line-breaks.  This, btw, was also this way in iCal 4.
    Ok, last last thing: in the preferences of iCal one can add a default alert to all new timed events and invitations and one can specify how many minutes before one wants to be alerted.  I do not want to add a default alert to all new events/appointments, but I would like to be able to specify the default number of minutes put on all new alerts that I put on events.  It seems quite intuitive to me that the default number of minutes one can specify for every alarm added to events by defult (if that option is checked in the preferences), should be the defult number of minutes set to alarms one manually puts on events, in stead of the '15 minutes before' default that is in the system and which seems to be unchangable.
    If it says '0 minutes before the start time' there, then all alerts that I manually put on events should have this value put to zero by default!

  • ICal "week view" question

    Is it possible to advance one day at a time in the "week" view mode in iCal? I can only advance one week at a time.
    I have my week starting day set to "Monday," but I sometimes want to be able to see events over a long weekend (from, say, Friday to Monday) or another period of time that doesn't begin on Monday and end on Sunday. In those cases, I have to either go to "month" view or reset my week start day in the preferences. Palm Desktop allows me to advance one day at a time while in week view, a feature I didn't know I was giving up when I converted to iCal.

    I agree with Todd.

  • Get rid of event list in iCal view

    I just upgraded to Lion.  When I first opened iCal, it showed a single column with events shown by hour.  Somehow, in fiddling with the settings, I ended up with two columns -- one on the left showing past and future events as a scrollable list, and one on the right showing events by the hour for a specific day, week, etc.
    How do I get back to the single column showing events by the hour?  I don't want the scrollable list.

    Don H., I feel your pain.
    I just picked up my new MBP from the Apple Store tonight. They imported all of my data, and when I picked up the computer, they took me through each app to make sure all my data had imported correctly. When they showed me iCal, it looked perfect--all of my stuff was there, hour by hour, in Day view. It basically looked just like it did in Snow Leopard. My friend's birthday is today, so I was delighted to see that Event at the top of the hour-by-hour list--that's how I knew my data was there.
    When I opened iCal at home, it looks completely different. I now have this horrible formatting with a giant monthly calendar and a list of events on the left. The hour-by-hour list (which is what I use iCal for) is so narrow that I can't read any of the entries in their entirety. I dragged the border as far as I could to maximize the width of the hour-by-hour list and it's still only a little over an inch wide.  Meanwhile, the list of events that I DON'T need is 4 to 5 inches wide.
    I've looked through all of the help menus and the only options for "viewing the calendar differently" are Day, Week, Month or Year.
    What I don't understand is, why did it look normal while I was at the store, but completely different when I got home?  If it had looked like this at the store, I could've asked for help while I was there. I'm disappointed in the new format but can't figure out how to get back to what it looked like at the store. Wish I could help. I'll keep watching this discussion to see if you get help. Good luck.

  • Things tags in ical -view

    I synchronized ical with things and my tags are shown at the right side beside the month view.Is there a possibilit to integrate the tags in the day fields!?

    Do you mean Divs or AP Divs?

  • ICal View-Used to be able to view week with months on the side

    In the older version, I used to be able to view my iCal in the week view, with a colum on the side that showed the calandars.  I just updated to Lion and can't figure out how to get this same view.

    Greetings,
    The calendar side bar is a drop down menu in Lion.  To see the calendars you must click on the "Calendars" button in the top left corner of the iCal window.  The list is designed to disappear when not in use.
    The feature you are looking for does seem to be a part of the next version of OS X, Mountain Lion: http://www.macworld.com/article/1165436/mountain_lion_hands_on_with_contacts_and _calendar.html

  • Ical Applescript questions and missing commands

    This is an advanced itunes question....
    I am using itunes with ical and applescript to run a radio station.   I have used alot of things from Doug Adam's and taken some things past where i can get help.   I am using itunes 7...and os X 10.5.8 .   i am also using ical buddy, gcal(for xml) and a few other neat little tricks.
    I have run into a few technical problems and was wondering if anyone knew how to fix them.
    1 Problems happen:    is there a way to disable ALL pop-up warnings in itunes........not just sync, or playlist warnings, but all errors that require someone to click......
    2 is there a way to Toggle (on/off) itunes soundcheck in the preferences when you set a playlist to play with an applescript
    Thank you,

    I  have updated to Itunes 10.4, and have encountered a whole new set of problems
    1. (solved)  the popup warnings in Itunes 10.4 are gone.   I have a good backup applescript that forcequits the applescript app, or forces a return Key press into the warning window.   It works but i want to make it better
    2. (solved)   I have solved the soundcheck problem with an applescript (its not pretty, but does the job)
    NEW PROBLEM:
    upgrading to Itunes 10.4 removed the *Smart shuffle features that were in Itunes 7.6.   (this is much different from smart playlists)
    I NEED THAT FEATURE
    Can someone at apple please give me the Hexidecimal code  i need to replace in the com.apple.itunes prefs file that will re-orient the smart-shuffle  to *shuffle "Songs"  with "least likely artist repeat" Setting
    Thanks in Advance,
    Jacob
    *Removed in iTunes 8
    also as a sidenote iCal version 4.04 is doing something shady when i export the event information.   It feeds garbage into my code which creates errors apparently at random.   The problem is resolved with earlier and later releases of iCal (That i cannot use becuase i have a Macbook pro 2006 Intel Duo core which will not take the lion operation system)   Sometimes it feeds garbage after the ical information that my shellscript is requesting

  • Viewing and purchasing on Desktop / Web Viewer Question.

    I understand that if you share free content via your iOS app it can be viewed in a browser (with some features missing like swiping of images .)
    My question is this....
    I have a Professional account... Can a person purchase the magazine and view the whole magazine via a Desktop computer with the DPS Web Viewer? Or its only limited to free content on your web browser but they have to have a iPad to view the whole mag?  Do they get full access on the desktop if they purchase.
    Thanks
    Ron

    For a professional customers, only the free content that was shared can be viewed on the web viewer/desktop. For enterprise customers, restricted content can be accessed via entitlement using the Content Viewer for Web SDK

  • Create Materialized View question

    Hi all,
    I have a question about MV.
    Toad creation wizard of a new snapshots (materialized view) on "Refresh Info" tab I set
    Refresh mode: complete On demand
    With: ROWID (I can't use primary key because on my table there isn't PK)
    Writing teh query, next the Materialized View is successfully created and this is a toad script:
    CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW ASDF
    TABLESPACE USERS
    NOCACHE
    LOGGING
    NOCOMPRESS
    NOPARALLEL
    BUILD IMMEDIATE
    REFRESH COMPLETE ON DEMAND
    WITH PRIMARY KEY
    AS
    select CDA_PART, DES_PART, DES_MAT, CDA_APPART, CDA_PROVEN
    from ldanapr01
    where dat_end>(sysdate-1);Why is specified WITH PRIMARY KEY if I created the view with ROWID option?
    Indeed if a drop a MV and directly run the create VM script above obtain error ORA-14012 table 'LDANAPR01' does not contain a primary key constraint.
    So, if I modify the script in this way
    CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW ASDF
    TABLESPACE USERS
    NOCACHE
    LOGGING
    NOCOMPRESS
    NOPARALLEL
    BUILD IMMEDIATE
    REFRESH COMPLETE ON DEMAND
    WITH ROWID
    AS
    select CDA_PART, DES_PART, DES_MAT, CDA_APPART, CDA_PROVEN
    from ldanapr01
    where dat_end>(sysdate-1);the MV is successfully created!!
    What is difference between WITH PRIMARY KEY and WITH ROW ID... and why Toad show always the created MV script as WITH PRIMARY KEY ?

    >
    WITH PRIMARY KEY is used to create a primary key materialized view i.e. the materialized view is based on the primary key of the master table instead of ROWID (for ROWID clause). PRIMARY KEY is the default option. To use the PRIMARY KEY clause you should have defined PRIMARY KEY on the master table or else you should use ROWID based materialized views.
    Primary key materialized views allow materialized view master tables to be reorganized without affecting the eligibility of the materialized view for fast refresh.
    Rowid materialized views should have a single master table and cannot contain any of the following:
    * Distinct or aggregate functions
    * GROUP BY Subqueries , Joins & Set operations

  • Materialized view questions..

    Hi all..
    Please help me with the following question on materialized view.
    I need to create a MV on my LOCAL_DB on a table which is on REMOTE_DB.
    Do i need to created the materialized view log in the ""REMOTE_DB".
    1)
    Is there any cons using the materialized views? I mean , is there any maintence needed
    when the database got shut down or
    2)
    I am creating the materliazied view as ""select * from table_name"".
    If the base table changes, does it effect my materialized view.
    I have the following sqls to create mv, please let me know whether that are correct.
    -- LOCAL_DATABASE
    CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW plates_mv
    REFRESH Fast
    START WITH SYSDATE
    NEXT SYSDATE + 1
    AS SELECT * FROM plates@home_dmv.world;
    -- REMOTE_DATABASE or LOCAL_DATABASE??
    CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW LOG ON plates;
    Thank in advance.

    +Do i need to created the materialized view log in the ""REMOTE_DB".{code}+
    Yes.If you want your materialized view is fast refreshable.
    +{code}
    1)
    Is there any cons using the materialized views? I mean , is there any maintence needed
    when the database got shut down{code}+
    It all depends.If remote data base got shut down Materialized view won't refresh. refresh will fail and oracle try again to refresh till it reaches max failure count i.e 16.
    If current DB got shut down ....It is like a regular table and it will refresh as per next refresh scheduled time.May be this time it would do complete refresh.
    +{code}2)
    I am creating the materliazied view as ""select * from table_name"".
    If the base table changes, does it effect my materialized view.{code}+
    Never create a Mview using "select *". If Remote DBA added/Dropped columns for remote table then your Mview refresh will end up with errors.So Always specify the column names in the definition.
    create mview log on Remote table. first time it will do the complete refresh and from next refresh it will use the Mview log to fast refresh. Use refresh Method as "Force" let oracle decide which refresh it wants to do.
    Hope this info helpful!
    First read the documentation or related information and understand about the Materialized views then implement or Test it in your Dev or your localDB environment.

  • Novice window/View question (fixed) -- please comment on code

    (fixed this to look right, thanks for the posting tip)
    Hey, I am using the iPhone SDK, and this is my first non-licensing question, which means it's going to be a very basic one.
    I'm able to start a project, using a ViewController template, edit the XIB file, and then have those controls show up. I'm able to create outlets and inlets and handle user input and output to those controls, all well and good.
    Where I'm getting hung up is when I want more than one view. I've read the "how to use the ViewController" documentation, which is more like a "how to" guide for specific subclasses.
    All I want to do, for now, is to create two views and swap back and forth between two views. My strategy was to create a parent view (just a container), then create two viewcontrollers (with their views) and then set both their views to the addSubView function of my parent view. Then I was going to use the bringSubviewToFront method to swap between the two, if all goes well then using different animations.
    So I did the below in my DidFinishLaunching event handler. All I get is a white screen. Can someone correct my code below, given the intent above? I would learn a TON from the answer, I'd be on my way.
    Thanks very much in advance.
    - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application {
    UIView *v = [UIView alloc];
    m_pParentView = v; // declared in class interface as UIView *m_pParentView;
    ViewCtrlSub1 *vcs1 = [ViewCtrlSub1 alloc];
    [vcs1 initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil];
    [m_pParentView addSubview: vcs1.view];
    ViewCtrlSub2 *vcs2 = [ViewCtrlSub2 alloc];
    [vcs2 initWithNibName:nil@ bundle:nil];
    [m_pParentView addSubview: vcs2.view];
    [window addSubview: m_pParentView];
    [m_pParentView bringSubviewToFront:vcs1.view];
    // Override point for customization after application launch
    [window makeKeyAndVisible];

    The Utility template makes two content views that transition with the "flip" view animation. The root view is only used to position the Info style button on the main view. I.e. the root view itself is never visible. I didn't mean to imply that template provided the UI skeleton you were looking for, since you didn't describe what you're looking for. But the toggleView method in RootViewController.m is a good example of how to transition between two views without using a tab or nav view controller (since I assumed that was what you were trying to learn).
    If you're still in the dark after studying and playing with the Utility template, the place to go is Chaper 6 of +Beginning iPhone Development: Exploring the iPhone SDK+ by Mark and LaMarche. In my opinion it's almost self destructive to try and learn iPhone programming without that book.
    If you describe the view structure you want, I can give you some more hints, but you won't learn much by just pasting in a code sample.

  • Applet viewer question

    Well here is my first question of what promises to be many. Nice to meet you all. Here goes:
    While doing the first applet in "Your first cup of Java", I run the applet by typing:
    appletviewer Hello.html
    The applet runs in the applet viewer and looks just like the picure says it should. But I also get this warning in the command prompt:
    Warning: Can't read AppletViewer properties file: C:\WINNT\Profiles\PURCHASER\.h
    otjava\properties Using defaults.
    Anybody know what the problem is there?
    Thanks.

    I wouldn't worry about it, I get the same errors using the computers at Uni. It's never stopped me anyway. I'm not sure what causes it, something to do with WinNT/2000 and profiles/users.
    Cheers,
