Ical widget launch ical

This is more of an annoyance than a serious question, still help would be appreciated. I seem to remember having the ability to use the iCal widget that came with Snow Leopard to open iCal to a specific date. To do this, all I had to do was go to that widget in my Dashboard, double-click on the date I was interested on and voila! iCal launched with that specific date open. Not any more. Now the widget appears as a single square containing today's date first, which you can expand once, by double clicking, to get the full month, which you can adjust using the arrows, and then double click again to get a list of today's events. You can also click on one of those events and that will launch iCal. Still, I miss being able to be more specific in which day I wanted to open iCal in. Did the features of the widget change or is mine just malfunctioning? Let me know what you think. Thank you!
On a side note, it will be interesting to see what happens to Dashboard and widgets when Lion (Mac OS X 10.7) is launched.

I'm suddenly facing a similar and unexpected terror as mentioned above - at least I have some skill to keep finding the right people on the right threads, and most of all thanks for taking the time to participate. I found a helpful response over here:
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5551095#5551095
w/ the topic," ical synchronizing your modifications... "
Here's some point's regarding my slice of horror, fyi. I kid you not I was going to buy an iphone tomorrow. I am spooked.
On the 5th, the synced ical calendars and address books simply vanished from my connected ipod classic. Today, itunes attempted to update the ipod software to 1.0.2 and iCal never fully launched itself again. (Perhaps related - or not? - In iphoto, in order to access its preferences there's a (15-25 minute wait. And I tried deleting the several different applications' preferences, etc.) And now not even a folder titled "Calendars" exists on my hard drive. (At least I've got my palm pilot which remarkably has the calendars. From here....?)
Any further thoughts or tips would be more than welcome if they come to you at your convenience.
Hope we all come out of this together.

  • Automatically launching iCal at Login:  is it a drain on system resources?

    Since the persistent "July 17" iCal icon bugs me, I was thinking of having iCal automatically launch (hidden) at login.
    Can anyone knowledgable of such things comment on if keeping iCal running all the time would be a drain on system resources?
    I know the origin of the JUL 17 (the day iCal was first launched), but it's sort of a useless thing to note for anyone of than iCal software developers and Apple execs.

    Argelius,
    I run iCal continuously and find that it has no adverse effect on my system performance, but depending upon many variables starting with RAM your mileage may vary. When hidden, iCal uses 0.00% of the CPU.
    One of the best ways for you to determine the efficacy of an iCal automatic login with a continuously running but hidden iCal is to give it a try. If your system performance suffers, you should probably not use the automatic login feature.
    If you read Mac OS X: Reading system memory usage in Activity Monitor, and search for Activity Monitor you will find several articles which relate to evaluating your system performance.
    According to Troubleshooting Mac OS X by Dr. Smoke, some of the things that you can do to improve system performance are, getting more RAM, turning off the eye candy, make the Dock less entertaining, disabling window effects, using a static desktop background, skipping iTunes visuals, reducing the number of widgets, disabling automatic protection features, and removing unnecessary fonts.

  • Has anyone yet found a workable replacement for the Yahoo Widgets for iCal?

    I was extremely happy using Konfabulator/Yahoo Widgets iCal Events widget, leaving it on my desktop so I could see my daily calendar and To-Do's without visiting any apps. But since Leopard, it doesn't work, and I've yet to find a workable alternative. Has anyone found an adequate replacement?
    I don't like the Apple Dashboard widget, as I want it permanently affixed to the Desktop, underneath all other windows. The YW solution was perfect, and it's bizarre that no-one else seems to have replicated it - or even Apple themselves?

    Here is how to put Mac widgets on your desktop: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6292560&#6292560
    And here is a iCal widget: http://benkazez.com/icalevents.php
    It doesn't put your to-do list on there, so there is this widget: http://www.bluehenley.com/products/dobedo/
    Hope this is more of what you wanted.

  • Launch iCal at boot-up or login

    I would like iCal to launch immediately on login or boot-up. I seem to remember that this was possible in earlier OS versions. Is it possible with Leopard? I am running Leopard on a Mac Mini.

    add ical to your login items in system preferences->accounts.

  • I should not have to launch ical to close an alarms alert panel.

    So it seems whenever icalalarmscheduler fires an alert for an event I have to launch ical in order to close that alert panel. I shouldn't have to launch ical in order to close an alert panel launched by icalalarmscheduler.

  • How to launch iCal on specified date from Cocoa app?

    Hi, I would like to launch iCal from my Cocoa app, but have iCal open on a specific date that I want to pass as an argument.
    I am launching iCal as follows:
    [[NSWorkspace sharedWorkspace] launchApplication:@"iCal"];
    This opens iCal fine. But, is it possible to somehow pass the date I would like iCal to open at?
    Thanks indeed.

    Third-party alternative to Scripting Bridge that may be of interest:
    http://appscript.sourceforge.net/
    More reliable, better documentation, better developer tools, supports back to OS X 10.3.9, yadda-yadda. Only relative disadvantage is that you have to bundle or install it yourself, but that's not hard.
    Example:
    // To create glue [1]: osaglue -o ICGlue -p IC iCal
    ICApplication *ical = [ICApplication applicationWithName: @"iCal"];
    NSDate *date = [NSDate dateWithString: @"2008-10-22 00:00:00 +0000"];
    ICViewCalendarCommand *cmd = [[ical viewCalendar] at: date];
    NSError *error;
    id result = [cmd sendWithError: &error];
    if (!result)
    NSLog(@"%@", error);
    Note that when building a framework for inclusion in an application bundle you need you tweak the build settings slightly, e.g. see:
    http://cocoadev.com/index.pl?EmbeddingFrameworksInApplications
    HTH
    [1] Note: I'm currently integrating osaglue into ASDictionary to make it simpler to use, but haven't updated the old osaglue documentation yet. ASDictionary 0.12.0 should be released in another day or two; in the meantime I suggest just using the iCal glue files from the ViewCalendarInICal sample project in the objc-appscript repository.

  • "move this event only" event doesn't show up on ipod or ical widget

    I have several events in various calendars which repeat on a weekly basis. When I need to occasionally move these events to "one time only" changes, the custom changes don't seem to be recognized by my ipod (G5 video), iCal widget (by Apple), or "iCal Events" widget (by Ben Kazez). Any ideas where the problem lies?

    This is what happened with mine too, except when I connect my iPod to the computer, all my music is there. When I disconnect, everything is gone, but under the 'About' section it tells me that it is there. Can anyone help with that?

  • Ical widget for entering events

  • Launch ical automatically on start up

    Is it possible to launch iCal on start up?. I'm just so forgetful these days.

    Greetings,
    Yes, it is.
    Go to System Preferences, Accounts, Login Items.
    Click on the + and choose iCal.
    If you want it to start up and remain hidden click on the checkbox in front of it.
    It should start up each time you reboot.

  • I tried BusyCal and didn't like it so I followed directions to revert back to iCal and now iCal doesn't work.

    iCal will launch but it is empty. I swipe and the events appear but I can't change them or add new ones. the + and Calendar on the upper left are sometimes there and sometimes not (multiple re-launches). Nothing will work. I click on the + or Calendars and nothing happens.
    I followed the directions from BusyCal to revert and now iCal will not respond.

    The version immediately prior to 12 was 11.4.0.18. Here are direct download links from Apple's servers:

    I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
    Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

  • Why does iCal insist on formatting a phone number as a hyperlink? How can I prevent this, and prevent iCal from launching FaceTime in response to entering the phone number in the event box?

    I just want to enter a phone number into an event in iCal. I do not want to launch FaceTime. How can I just put a phone number in an iCal event, without OSX 10.10 insisting on launching FaceTime in response to entering the phone number? I use a Macbook Pro.

    Ever since I upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS7, it has basically become a brick.  It constantly freezes, and the home button becomes completely inoperable.  People have suggested a number of fixes for the home button problem ("calibrating", tightening screws, etc.) but none of the fixes solved the problem.  Through trial and error, I've come to realize that the problem is that the phone doesn't have enough computing power and that too much of its RAM gets used up by background processes, causing the phone to freeze.
    I have found an app that stops unnecessary background processes currently running, frees up RAM, and lets the phone function properly (Free RAM 1.3). Once I've run this app, the phone functions perfectly.
    However, this clean up only happens each time the app is launched (ie: it does not continuously free up RAM).  So, I constantly have to run it (and sometimes am not able to because the phone is frozen and the home button won't work).
    When it is running, the app  displays the background processes that are running.  Looking at the list, there are many processes for which I have no need, such as processes related to automatic checking for app updates, processes related to iCloud (which I do not use), etc.  Preventing these processes from running in the first place would go a long way in making my phone more useable (being able to return to a previous iOS would be a better option, but Apple won't allow this).
    Here is my question:  is there a way to prevent unnecessary background processes from running at all?
    Which app is this?

  • "My Day" widget for iCal?

    Hi--
    I'm about ready to give up on Office and switch to iWork, but the one feature that is (perhaps stupidly) holding me back is Entourage's brilliant "My Day" widget:
    <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/entourage2008/default.mspx#/my_day/>
    Is there something out there for iCal that will display my upcoming calendar events and undone tasks in a single, concise window? I need something that will "live" at the edge of my screen and won't require me to switch applications to see what's coming next on my calendar....
    Thanks for any tips/recommendations!

    {quote}Entourage's brilliant "My Day" widget{quote}
    Yes, I love it too. There is an app called Today that is pretty much a copy of My Day http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/27366/today . The only thing stopping me from buying it is I forbid myself from rewarding copycat developers.

  • ICal Widget not showing iCal events

    Hi all,
    I have iCal setup so it downloads all events from gCal. And now the widget doesn't show any upcoming events.
    How can I get the widget to recognize delegated calendars?

    I know this thread is over a year old, but I haven't found anything else related to it here, and I certainly haven't been able to find an answer myself.
    I, too, have delegate calendars that I need to show in my upcoming events. So far the only workaround I've come up with is subscribing to those calendars again, which I then have to hide in iCal (otherwise I will see two of everything), refresh manually (or wait until the periodic refresh), and makes the clicking of upcoming events link to the duplicates rather than the original.
    Has anyone found a better way, or know if this is going to be fixed?
    I've tried setting up the caldav calendars individually but iCal always claims it can't find any calendars at the address I provide unless it's the one with my primary e-mail.
    Thanks

  • ICal not launching

    About 2 months ago I tried to open iCal and it would not launch, it will not open at all. I would get the error message that iCal has quit unexpectedly. I have trashed the cache folder and have also reset my sync history. Neither has worked, I still get the same error message.
