Ical won't highlight calendar events in week view

When I click on a certain calendar, all the events from that calendar don't become highlighted like they did in Tiger iCal. This is annoying. Anyone else have the same issue?

I'm having the same problem too. I suspect it's a deliberate UI change on Apple's part, so I think everyone needs to lobby them to persuade them to change it back, since it's obviously not as good!

  • How do you change the pink highlight for the present day in calendar when in week view

How do you change the pink highlight for the present day in calendar when in week view - OSX Maverick

the current day was light blue in ical in 10.6 but with plenty of contrast, but I recently made the bigger leap all the way to calendar in 10.9. the choice of color is terrible for reasons such as Spile1962 puts below, but also not having any way to tweak it is terrible. I'm on a bran d new imac and can barely see a difference and frankly, while I appreciate the subtlety, I still forget to look for the darker bar across the top of the current week and day. we should be able to adjust weekend and current day bg colors.
I went into the app's package contents in hopes that they were using a tiff/png file that I could tweak on my own but couldn't find anything for them. all the icons are there, as are the bg sets for all the little pop-ups and things, but I couldn't even find a reference to a hex color in the plist file.
send apple feedback. I just did myself, except that Calendar hasn't made the list (yet?), only iCal up to version 4.x, and Messages is still only iChat for feedback, and some others are old as well. apparently after steve died, apple's attention to these details just died with him. it's been that long since those other apps should have been relevant on their site.

  • Show ALL all-day events in week view

I am looking for a way to see ALL all-day events in iCal's week view. By default, it only shows up to two and a half events, and to see more you need to scroll. What's more, you don't see an out-of-view marker, so you don't always know you need to scroll. This is most annoying.
The same goes for timed events in week view. You do not get an out-of-view marker, so you don't know you need to scroll. This is inconsistent with the Cal app on the Mac, where you do get an out-of-view marker (a small line in the colour of the out-of-view event).
Is there a way to fix these issues in iCal? Or is there an iCal alternative that offers these things? I am basically looking for these things, each of which is a possible deal breaker for me (and I find it hard to figure out if iCal alternatives offer these basic functions):
    Week view.with out-of-view markers.
Week view showing ALL all-day events.
Icon that shows the date (in the icon or in a badge).

I'm not sure how this got in the iPhone forum. I seem to recall posting in the iPad forum, but I may be wrong. Anyway, it's iCal for iPad I'm talking about, even though the same issues exist on the iPhone.

  • ICal not seeing Exchange Calendar events

My iCal started behaving strangely in that it was importing exchange events into my personal calendar instead of my Exchange calendar. After trying several things I deleted "my card" in address book, and tried to recreate it in my exchange address book, thinking this would redirect all of my calendar events to exchange (since that was where my address card would be). When I realized that creating a "my address card" on the exchange side of the address book wasn't possible, I recreated the "my card" in the local address book on my mac.
The next thing I tried was to delete my personal calendar with the hope that this would force all calendar events coming into iMail to use my exchange calendar (seems logical, right?). I figured it wasn't a big deal since I wasn't using my personal calendar anyway (I use my exchange calendar for everything). The end result is that none of mail calendar events will now import into iCal..... at all.
    Any suggestions?

  • Calendar too many all day events in weekly view

The headings for events disappear in the iCloud Calendar's "weekly" view when you add too many "all day" events onto 1 day.  It's weird because the event headings show correctly in the monthly view and the day view but just not in the weekly view.  You can tell the events are there in the weekly view but the event headings do not appear.
The events' headings appear fine when displayed in the "weekly" view in the Calendar.app back on my iMac (desktop).  So, it's just a problem with the weekly view in the Calendar on the iCloud.com.
    Anybody else noticing this?
    Can Apple get it fixed?

Same problem here; if I EVER find out the solution I will post it here.

  • With iCal can I hide repetitive events in month view only?

I was wondering if it was possible to hide repetitive events in month view but have them show in week and day views. For instance, I have my class schedule on iCal but I don't want to see it when I look at the month view, I just want to see events that are not repetitive, such as exam/test events. If anyone can help, that would be awesome. Thanks.

    jk_baller23,
You could create a separate calendar for repetitive events, and uncheck them when using the day/week view.

  • ICal Date Headings Missing from Day and Week Views

    Good morning,
A few days ago, the date headings disappeared from the Day and Week views in iCal. I can see the date heading in Month view, but when I switch back, the dates are missing. All of my events are there, and correct.
I have resolved font duplications and restarted iCal, to no avail.
    Thanks for your help.
    W

Still no date headings when my calendar is views in the Day and Week views. All of my appointments are there. The days of the month appear in Month view. But when I change to week or day, I don't know what day I'm looking at because there are no dates. Only "2010" appears in the upper left.
Any ideas? I couldn't be the only one this has happened to!
    Thanks, Wendy

  • Ical appointment to busy not showing in week view

Hi, When I make an appointment in iCal there is no showing the difference between busy or free in week view. what is wrong?

    I had the same problem!
I just subscribed to MobileMe. Added a To Do in Mail & looked for it in iCal.
I could not see it in iCal. Where is it?
Ok i wasted about two hours reading the mail help pages, Apple support discussion threads & googling on this until i realised what is the problem.
The answer is IT DOES NOT APPEAR IN YOUR CALENDAR!
You must UNHIDE the To Do list in iCal which will appear on the right hand side pane of iCal. Sheesh!!!
This is another example of Apple obsfucation in their apps.
The first time i tried to use the much vaunted iPhoto i nearly went mad trying figure out what it was doing & how to manage my precious images. Like a lot of these 'iApps' the interface is overly dumbed down & poorly documented.

  • Is there a way to turn off showing the time in each Calendar entry in "week" view?

I use the "week" view as my primary calendar. Upon updating to Mavericks, the calendar forces the starting time to be shown with each entry. This forces me to make my entries at least 1.5 hours long to show even two short lines of text. I frequently want to show two or three lines of text, for example when menu planning. Also, I consider this "feature" to be just chart junk--the starting time is already shown by the position on the calendar.

I agree, clearing an entire line to show the event's starting time—when this should be apparent from the event block's position in the calendar—is a critical waste of space.
Please also, of course, report to http://www.apple.com/feedback/.

  • IOS calendar month in week view

How to I know what month I am in when using week view in calendar? I only see date and day of the week.

Yes, I do remember it now. Thanks for that.
Well in Month view, turning to landscape do show week view.
Yes, the month is not shown, but give it a turn (back to portrait) you have the month and day highlighted.

  • ICal 2.0.2 doesn't display week view

so i've been running ical fine for a while, but lately whenever i click on the week view it minimizes ical
the day and month views both work fine
does anyone know how to solve this problem? it's getting frustrating since i use the week view almost always

You mean minimize like sending it to the Dock?
If so, I'd start by deleting iCal preerences in you User folder ~/Library/Preerences/com.apple.iCal.plist

  • Calendar stuck in weekly view

The calendar on my iPhone 4 is stuck in weekly view.  I can not get it to bring up the menu to switch to monthly.

At the top of the calendar there is supposed to be a set of tabs for view: day, list, month, year.  On my phone, it is stuck in a year view with no tabs at the top.
In IOS7 the interface has changed, the year view do not have any tabs on top except Search (lupe icon) and a plus sign ( + ) on the right. If you hold the iPhone in Landscape mode (horizontally) you get a week's view.

  • Calendar: start the Week view with Monday?

When using the native Calendar application on the iPad, is it possible to have the Week view start with Monday rather than Sunday? If yes, how would I set the application to look that way? Thanks for the help.

Yes, my old TREO was super for this. When you change your US calendar to UK, you also change the keyboard, and $ becomes ₤ (If that worked, it should be the British pound sign.) I wrote to Apple numerous times to no avail.
I gave up and downloaded "Week Cal" after some google research for the Monday week calendar. It works.

  • ICal won't recognize calendars in a calendar group

First - I do not use the cloud, everything is stored on my local hardDisk
Second - the problem is only with iCal. Other programs can see calandars within calendar groups just fine.
Third and most importantly - I apologize in advance for misspelling calendar (or anything else) as I am sure to do so many times.
My problem: All of a sudden iCal stopped recognizing anything inside a calendar group.
I am running Mountain Lion 10.8.3.
I have multiple calendar groups, all containing calendars inside them and a slew of events for each.
When I click on a calandar within a group and add a new event it popps up with the right color, indicating that it will be saved within that calandar group, yet inside the actual event (in the edit screen) the calandar associated with it is null. Specifically I can't choose anything because everthing is grayed out. The only thing showing are the names of the various calendar groups I have, but none of the calandars inside those groups show up for me to select them.
Notice that the new even is GREEN indicating that it will go into the World Holiday's calendar inside the group Holidays. Yet inside the details of the even it shows that the associated calandar is Lightfoot, the only calendar not inside a group. The only way to make World Holidays an option is to move it out of the group, but that defeats the purpose of groups.
As stated before, the calendar groups show up and work fine in other programs, the problem is unique to iCal alone. Here is a screenShot of mail as I try to add a new even from there.
See how it is giving me the option to put the event in ANY of the calandars whether they are inside a group or not. This is how iCal was working up until Tuesday the 19th. This is also what I just finished doing when it broke. I have tried the following with no success:
    - deleting all the calendars/calendar groups and working from a clean/error free archive of iCal
    - deleteing my cache files
    - installing a dummy user with admin privelges to see if the problem ports over
    - reinstalling OS X (not erasing my data but in essence reinstalling iCal)
    - verifying the disk to find any errors (there were none)
    - reparing disk permissions (they were all fine but I repaired them anyway)
    - contacting apple support (nice guy, but so far can't figure it out either)
It appears to be a hierarcy issue inside of iCal alone. It is as if anything inside a calendar group (calandars and events) is unreadable by iCal, like the hierarchical structure is corrupt or there is a bad line of code in there somewhere. Any ideas on what I should try and do to fix it?
    Thanks!

I too am having this difficulty.  It just showed up today (3/27) and nearest as I can figure, is somehow tied to the latest Mountain Lion update since I just installed that from the App Store.  That said, I'm no closer to figuring out what to do about it.
I am also running 10.8.3 and am steering clear of the Cloud because it doesn't support calendar groups.
Like you, I can get things in the right calendar/color if I click that calendar then add the event.  But if I then go into the individual event it is being labeled as something else.  I think it is actually putting it in the correct calendar, because if I click between events and watch the calendar bar on the left, it switches between the different calendars and groups appropriately.  It is a bit frustrating though that if I want to switch an event's calendar assignment, I now have to re-enter it, rather than just switching it through the edit pane or by right-clicking.
Here's hoping someone out there will see this and have a solution.
    Cheers!

  • Getting ical to speak current calendar events

I am admittedly an applescript rookie. I am trying to figure out how to get the computer to speak today's ical events.
    I have found this information:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20091115201138792
I have installed the necessary icalbuddy program:
    http://hasseg.org/icalBuddy/
The problem is writing the script to work correctly. I would like to go just a little bit further. So far, I can get it to speak the days next event, but on some days there are no events so I would like it to react to that and say "Today you have no appointments"
    This is the working script:
set theNextOrCurrentEvent to (do shell script "/usr/local/bin/icalbuddy -ic "mycalendarname" -eep "*" -nc -b "" -n -li 1 eventsToday")
say "Today you have" & theNextOrCurrentEvent
My experience with using conditionals is very limited. This is what I have so far:
set theNextOrCurrentEvent to (do shell script "/usr/local/bin/icalbuddy -ic "mycalendarname" -eep "*" -nc -b "" -n -li 1 eventsToday")
if result is equal to "text" then
say "Today you have" & theNextOrCurrentEvent
    else
say "Today you have no appointments"
    end if
If I run the very simple version:
set theNextOrCurrentEvent to (do shell script "/usr/local/bin/icalbuddy -ic "mycalendarname" -eep "*" -nc -b "" -n -li 1 eventsToday")
if there is no event it will show the results as simply: ""
if there is an event it will give me the name of the event: "event"
How can I write this script? I suspect my problem is with the "text" part. I have tried to google this extensively but haven't come up with anything useful.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Sincerely,
    Michael

Thanks for your help with this script. I really appreciate it. Here is the final script that I ended up going with. The only challenge I had was dealing with multiple calendar items.
say "lets look at today's schedule"
set theNextOrCurrentEvent to (do shell script "/usr/local/bin/icalbuddy -ic "mycalendarname" -eep "*" -nc -b "" -n -li 10 eventsToday")
if the result is not "" then
repeat with anEvent in (paragraphs of theNextOrCurrentEvent)
    say "Today"
    delay 0.5
    say anEvent
    delay 1.5
    end repeat
say "there is nothing else scheduled for today"
    else
    delay 2
say "You have nothing scheduled for today"
    end if
    Thanks again.
    Sincerely,
    Michael
