Ical won't let me write on a subscribed calendar

Hi,
In my office we have 7 calendars hosted on a webdav server. When i subscribe to them using ical, i would like to be able to read and wirte information on them, but ical, does not let me write on them as it says they are read only...
The thing is i want my secretary to write on my calendar (as she is using sunbird on a pc) and i also want to write it from ical, but ical won't let me do it-.. :S
Any ideas on what can i do??

The present version of iCal supports only a read-only subscription service, which is openly published via .Mac or a private WebDAV server, and cannot be password protected. There is no workaround.
In a few weeks, Mac OS X 10.5 will ship with a completely rewritten version of iCal, one which complies with the CalDAV standard and which will integrate with iCal Server and Teams. You can get some idea of what's coming by looking here:

ICal won't let me change times of Google calendar event

I have been using iCal with Google Calendar for a long time, but suddenly, this morning, I am no longer able to edit times in my calendar events. If I create a new event, it gets default times, and I can edit it all I want, but when I save it and then view it again, the old times are there. I can edit the times accessing Google Calendar directly in a browser, and then the times of the event are updated in iCal when iCal re-syncs, but I can't actually make the edit through iCal.
Any thoughts? Anyone else experiencing this issue?

If you go into a freshly created new user on your Mac and add your Google calendar to ical, does the same thing happen?

After syncing and updating my iphone my iCalendar on my computer lost most of my information. Including wiping out an entire calendar group. When trying to readd the calendar group it won't let me add events to my calendar under that category.

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music' then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

ICal won't let me save an event

My iCal all of a sudden won't let me save events . Keep getting error messages that I either haven't set calendar or can't save event since its not in that event store ?

None of the Apple calendars have been maintained or updated since 2010. Not surpring that they are inaccurate. The other thing you should know is that most calendar subscription entries are not editable. This may explain your issues with not being able to add additional entries on the marked holidays. On the other hand, when a calendar publisher makes a change in their calendar, that change will be reflected in your subscription immediately.
I'm not Jewish, but for Jewish holidays many people use and like Hebcal.

You can unsubscribe from the Apple calendar by going to the Calendars button, right clicking on Apple's Jewish holiday calendar, and clicking Delete. Then you can subscribe to one of the Hebcal calendars by clicking on the calendar you want.

ICal won't let me the period over which an event will take place

I used to be able to enter a period over which an event would take place in iCal (desktop, not MobileMe) Since converting to Lion, this option is not available. There is no place to enter "from" and "to". Curiously, it is still possible to do so in iCal on MobileMe (via the web.), as it used to be on my desktop iCal (available via the dock). If anyone has any idea what's wrong, it would be appreciated.

Ferd II, you genius! It worked like a charm. I changed the region from the default Custom to Canada and iCal again works as it should.
But the bonus that came with your solutuion is even better.
Lion inexplicably changed every single file-modification date on my computer – including those on files I'd backed up on a hard drive.on backup drives – to January 5 2011. I spent days trying to figure out what was wrong. (An answer is still pending from Apple techs who were also unable to explain what happened.)
I was despairing of not being able to retrieve the orginal dates. Naturally, when I saw the dreaded January 5 2011 as the example in the system pref for Language and Text, I figured it was another instance of conversion.
But when I set the region to Canada, every one of the corrupted file dates, all those January 5 2011s, reverted to their proper modification dates! Amazing. The only one that didn't is the example/default in the Language and Text pref box.
I will let Apple's techies know that Ferd II solved the problem.
Thank you so much for your help and for sticking with the problem. I can now sync my iPhone without fear of infecting it.

ICal won't let me export

I have a Mac Book Pro and a Mac Pro, each running OS X 10.4.9 and iCal 2.0.5. I synch iCal between computers using my .Mac account.
I have finally decided to abandon iCal and return to Now Up-to-Date, as iCal is unstable, won't reliably process meeting invitations, frequently hangs and is very feature limited.
But when I go to export the iCal calendar entries so that I can get them into NUTD, the export dialog box/window opens and immediately closes before I can specifiy a filename or location or click on the 'export' button. This is on BOTH machines. Conseqently, I cannot export.
Has anyone else seen this or have any ideas what s going on? A search of this forum found no other reference to the issue.

Clearly iCal is not operating properly in your configuration. If you want it to, it may require that you reinstall the application from your original Mac OS X 10.4 or later Install or Upgrade DVD, and that you apply the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo update for intel processor-based machines, available here:

You might also want to consider doing this differently. Instead of exporting iCal data into a file for import into Now-Up-To-Date, instead consider waiting for the release of NightHawk, the NUTD successor, to read your iCal data directly into. It's release is only likely several weeks away, and I believe that a public beta release is already available.

ICal won't let me backup? "Operation could not be completed..."

I'm trying the back up my iCal and it asks me for a save location, then starts a progress bar then this dialogue box:
"Operation could not be completed. Permission denied"
Any ideas? I checked permissions and nothing came up wrong.
I have over a dozen different calendars and I sync with several shared calendars via Spanning Sync with Google Calendars. Thanks!

Did you accomplish that by using "Repair Disk Permissions" in Disk Utility, or did you actually check the "Ownership & Permissions" of your Desktop Folder using the "Get Info" command in the Finder?
Click on your Desktop in Macintosh HD>Users>yourusername, and then choose Finder>File>Get Info. Under "Ownership & Permissions," it should say "You can {Read & Write}."
If that is not selected, then change it to "You can {Read & Write}."

Ipod won't let me write to it. Error -36

My iPod with video 30 GB will not let me copy music or files to it.
Within itunes, if I select a number of albums totalling, say, 400Mbs and try to copy them to my ipod I get the following message after it copys about a third of the data.
'Attempting to write to ipod failed. The disk could not be read from or written to.'
If I try to copy large files to the ipod using it as an external disk I get this message roughly a third or half way through the process.
'The Finder cannot complete the operation because some of the data in "file name" could not be read or written (Error code -36)
I can copy the file to and from other drives so I don't think there is a problem with the data.
I have restored the ipod to factory default in itunes and I have erased the ipod using disk utility. Neither seems to have had any effect.

Hi my name is Jsaon. I have had similar problems with my 30GB ipod. It will sync to a certain point and then all of a sudden, it says that there is an error and windows cannot find files and folder to copy to. I have restored factory files i have put it into disk mode and it continues to do the same thing. What else can i do??

ICal won't let me edit events

Recently I'm unable to edit any events in iCal. This happens both when I try to edit from my iPhone 4 and from my 2013 MacBook Air.
I am given the option to edit, the edit window comes up, but then the changes I make are not reflected on the calendar at all. When I try to edit from my phone, several additional events with the same title and information are created for the same date.
The calendar I am attempting to edit is synched with Google.
Anyone know how to fix this?

I did update from an older Mac. All of my calendars are showing up just fine, I'm just having trouble editing events. I can add events just fine from my iPhone or Mac, just can't edit/delete from either. When I edit/delete the event directly from Google Calendar the changes are reflected on the Calendar app just fine.
Additionally, I frequently have to force quit the Calendar app on my Mac due to either not opening at all, or freezing up once it is open.

Ical won't let me create a new calendar, unless it is left "untitled."

When I create a new calendar in iCal, I can't name the calendar what I want (unless I leave it as "untitled"). However, color coding still works.
Please advise. I am running the most recent software as of today: OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)

Ical won't let me change name of reminders

When I type in a new name for an iCal reminder it always reverts back to previous name. Have tried restarting several times.

Your profile indicates you are running Mac OS X 10.6.7. Go to Apple > Software Update and install any and all available updates until no more are offered.
Troubleshooting:
1. First make an iCal backup: Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
4. Launch iCal and test.
If the issue persists:
1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
3. Launch iCal and test.

ICal won't let me change alerts.

I want to get text message alerts so I set up my an email in my address book under my name card that will send me texts. It shows up in iCal as an email option for alerts but when I click it it automatically goes back to my primary email. Anyone?

Just thought I would update this post as I am still continuing to have this problem, over a month later. For example, today, I tried to create an event to remember that I went to lunch with my family today to start at 1 PM and end at 3 PM. I change the start time to 1 PM and wait for it to auto update the end time to 2 PM. It doesn't. Then I close it - and bam it's back to 6 PM - 7 PM.
I close iCal. I try again. Same problem. I software update and restart my iMac. Try again. Same problem. This is getting to be very frustrating. I keep track of hours I work and other things on iCal and I look back at days I believe I had saved, and it looks like iCal has changed those times. I've used iCal since 2004 and I am getting frustrated with this problem that I am considering using an alternative method to keep track of appointments since I can no longer rely on the accuracy of entries I try to make.

ICal won't let me add new events.

I can't add any new events to my iCal on my Macbook Pro.
But I can edit the existing ones.
I can also add events on my iCloud calendar online and on my iPhone and it will show up on my iCal on my Macbook Pro.

I'm trying to sync my icloud account with my computer but this message comes up
The calendar https://cal.me.com:8443/principals/users/1.1348353031/ was not found on the server. Make sure the URL is correct.
I can't find the URL for my icloud account.

Your signature says you have 10.6.8 - is this correct? This is not compliant with iCloud and calendar and contacts syncing won't work.
There is an unsupported hack which has enabled some people to sync their calendars, but it may or may not be reliable.
