ICal won't remember passwords correctly

We're having problems with iCal not saving login information for subscribed calendars correctly.
At my workplace each employee publishes their calendars to a private server (Not MobileMe). Each employee then subscribes to the calendars of the other employees as needed.
The calendars are password protected. We maintain an internal web page with a list of the calendars available, and links that the employees can click on.
When adding a new calendar, a employee clicks on a link webcal://server/Calendars/name.ics in Safari, which causes iCal to launch an ask if you want to subscribe to the calendar.
After clicking subscribe, iCal asks for a username and password.
Then, you get the options window where you can choose a name for the calendar and set auto-update options and so on. The calendar has in the mean time been downloaded and is displayed in the background.
On the next refresh of the calendar, a warning sign appears next to the calendar.
At this point, a new entry has been added to the keychain. The address is http://server/Calendars/name.ics, and the username and password is correct as verified by using Apple's keychain tool.
Clicking on the warning sign in iCal results in a request for a username and password. The message is (translated to English) "Updating the calendar "Name" failed. The server rejected the username or password".
According to the server logs, it looks as if iCal tries to connect without a username and password after the calendar has been downloaded the first time.
I've found two solutions:
1. Change the address of the subscribed calendar to webcal://username@server/Calendars/name.ics
2. Click on the warning sign, and type in the username and password again.
#1 causes iCal to start using the keychain item added during the initial subscription to the calendar.
#2 causes iCal to add a second keychain item, with the address webcal://server/Calendars/name.ics
#2 also adds the username to the address of the subscribed calendar, so that the address becomes the same as in solution #1.
All our Macs (PPC/Intel) running Leopard 10.5.4 have this issue when adding new calendars.
Anyone experienced something like this?

If you are storing on your computer, arther than a sharing service, the issues are limited to your computer.
The most frequent problems are related to file permissions -- it cannot get the required permissions to store your preferences.
Run Disk Utility.
The most helpful operation Disk Utility does is ( Repair Disk ). That is a good idea. If you can only ( Verify Disk ) that is OK, as long as there are no un-fixable errors.
For this partiucular problem, you should also ( Repair Permissions ). It may list many messages, all of which can be ignored unless they appear in RED.

    You're not alone.
I had to buy a card reader yesterday. This is obviously a 10.4.8 / 6.0.5 issue.

  • ITunes 10.6 won't remember passwords for podcasts

Ever since I upgraded to 10.6, iTunes won't remember passwords for any premium podcasts, even when I check the "remember credentials" box. Every time I start iTunes, on the first podcast list refresh, I have to enter all the usernames and passwords again. Any ideas?

    HI everyone,
my ipod touch used to remember passwords, then I had to change some that expired, so I told it to 'forget' passwords, now it won't remember the new ones!
    how can I fix that?
    thank  you

    well, that didn't fix it.
it is more frustrating because the right side letters don't type o portrait orietation, and the school logon screen doesn't go to landscape when I turn it, so I have put my passwords and school id in the notepad so I can copy and paste everyday I am at school

Its been fine for a year, really, and now today, Safari 5.0.1 will no longer remember passwords when I'm in private mode.

    thanks in advance

Not sure, but isn't this supposed to be the ideal function of private mode; not saving your passwords or any other entered data?

  • Keychain won't remember passwords

Any backup? *Tried Keychain First Aid?* Firefox passwords are in signons.sqlite and key.db. Don't know about Safari. Which Mail? If Mail.app, only passwords I know about are in Mail>Preferences>Accounts. Do you mean those? I think we need more information. How did you do the upgrade? Did you install over something or Migrate?

  • Ical won't accept password from att

how to get ical to accept att pasword

I have the same problem. I went to the apple store and they told me to Reset the iPad (That means every downloaded app will be deleted so they've advised me to back it up on my iCloud account or in iTunes account using my PC) I dont wanna do it since I can still use my BB Curve mobile hotspot. It connects to my ipad by disabling the password of the hotspot. I havent tried disabling the hotspot password on my iPhone 5 (I don't know how to do it) I haven't tried reseting the iPad yet but it might helpful to you.

  • Safari does not remember passwords correctly

    Hi all!
I use Safari with several online browser games, where I have to login with user name and password. However, Safari does not complete these forms after loading the page, instead it only completes everything when I have entered the first one or two letters of the user name.
I have read that this might be the case when there are multiple user accounts for one page or domain, but this is the only account for this specific page.
The pages uses some kind of transparent forwarding, so the user name/password information is transmitted to different subdomains, something like a load balancer, I guess (wod1.world-of-dungeons.net, wod2.world-of-dungeons.net,... you get the idea).
Auto-fill is enabled, the passwords are correctly stored in the keychain and everything works as normal once I start typing the user name.
Any ideas on what could cause this?
The page in question is (for example) http://world-of-dungeons.net/
I use Safari 3.1.1 on OSX 10.5.2 on a MacBook, if that helps.
    Thanks,
    Helge.

    Welcome to the Forums!
I don't usually use the AutoFill function, but as I understand it, AutoFill does not automatically populate the form fields when the page loads. You either need to start typing in a field, select Edit menu > AutoFill form (or use the Command-Shift-A keyboard shortcut), or add an AutoFill button to your toolbar (View menu > Customize Toolbar and drag it there) then click it after the page loads.
    Hope this helps...

  • Keychain Won't Remember Passwords Anymore

For some reason, Keychain doesn't seem to be remembering my passwords for Mac Mail and File Maker Pro. I ran Keychain Access First Aid and it said there was no problems found.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks to everyone that helped me with this problem.
Luckily, on my own, I figured out that resetting the keychain would fix the problem.

  • Leopard mail won't remember passwords

For some strange reason Leopard mail doesn't seem to want to save any of our passwords to any of our accounts. We've gone into +mail preferences+ and saved them there, but as soon as we close down mail it 'forgets' them again. We've also repaired the keychain, but the same thing happens.
Anyone know of how to fix a password memory problem to get the passwords to 'stick' in mail?

LOL Thanks for the chuckle, we needed it
    {quote}I've been at this for two weeks now and my keychains are unresponsive even after reparing permissions, starting over with a clean keychain and even a new user.{quote}
Yep, we've done the same with no results. Our problem has actually become WORSE over time - now it even asks us to put in the main keychain password, then it asks for each individual e-mail account password
    {quote}It's crazy that they've managed to screw this up so badly.{quote}
I know. What is most upsetting to us is that Mail was not broken. For as long as we've used Tiger it has worked flawlessly. Then Leopard comes out and adds a few cosmetic type features to Mail and the whole ball of wax becomes a mess. Very disappointing to say the least.

  • ICal doesn't remember fullscreen

Ever since Apple's update last week or whatever, my iCal won't remember to open in fullscreen. Before that, I had it working great. I would open ical and click the icon in the top right to make it fullscreen, and then if i quit and opened again, it would open in fullscreen automatically. Now, it doesn't no matter what I do. I have to click the icon every time to get it into fullscreen. Is there a setting somewhere or is this just an issue they'll fix with the next update?

Same problem here. No app (except iTunes) does remember that it was in fullscreen mode when I restart it.
The first time I experienced this bug on November 13th. One day after I installed the latest Java update.
But today I've read that 10.7.3 is in review for developers so it will come soon. I hope this will provide a fix.

  • Won't remember my auto log in password for SKY...have to manually insert password every time. all other sites are OK..

whenever I use SKY for my email [ many time a day] - ([email protected]) Firefox won't remember my password (it's in settings - show passwords - so I know its there..) So every time I have to enter it manually - it's becoming a bit of a pain....
All other sites I access using passwords (YouTube / eBay ect) ALL auito log in properly - I've tried deleting from the saved password list and adding again but it still won't auto log in..what's up...???

Try this if you met the same problem
    Syndrome:
The wireless network name appeared on the System Preference>Network>Airport>Advanced>Preferred Networks List, but every time when start computer or wake up, a popup window said "None preferred network is available" and ask me to select a new net work, if I select the same network, the password is there. The system keychain can remember the password but System preference cannot remember the Preferred/Joined wireless network.
    Reason:
Fix to this problem that strangely centred on the specific location of the “System Preferences.app”, if other than the standard location of the root of the “Applications” folder.
If you have moved the System Preferences application (not alias, actual app) to any other location for any reason, your newly joined preferred network will NOT be properly remembered and will NEVER be properly rejoined.
    Solution:
    1) Move “System Preferences.app” back to “Applications\”.
    2) Delete all instances of “Preferred Networks” in “Network Preferences”.
    3) Delete all “Airport network password” instances in “Keychain Access”.
    4) Restart your Mac.
    5) Add/Join applicable preferred network using the Airport pulldown menu or in Network Preferences (as if for the first time). Use “Advanced” in “Network Preferences” to confirm the existence of your preferred network and the correct settings. Use “Keychain Access” to confirm the existence of the applicable “Airport network password” instance and the correct settings.
    6) Restart your Mac. The OS should now find your preferred network and join it on its own. Good Luck!
NOTE: Simply moving back System Preferences will NOT suffice. Deleting and re-adding/joining the preferred network is a must after the app has been moved.

I just went through this same process.... I changed my credit card, double checked billing info, changed my password, I restored my phone, but the misake I made was I kept restoring it from my back up.... Finally I went to Apple Store.. and sad to say that you have to do a restore, and DO NOT restore from back up.
I used Gmail so I didnt loose contacts or email.. but I did loose all my text messages and history of that.
So, I had the EXACT same problem and it was a software issue.. you have to restore your phone to factory settings and start all over.. BLOWS I know!
