ICal won't start (new Retina iPad 3)

MAJOR PROBLEM!--
iCal now only opens for a second and then quits.  I cannot open and use iCal!  This just started - was fine an hour ago!!
This morning I noticed it would not open in DAY view – only week, month, year and list.  I finally got it to open to today's date and it crashed and closed.
NOW everytime I try to open iCal on my iPad running iOS 5.1.1 it opens for 1/2 a second in DAY view showing 14 June 2012 - then immediately closes.  I've tried shutting-down my iPad with the red slider; tried home-button + start button "reboot" - even removing the iCloud sync for calendars – nothing works.  I've tried shutting-down the iCal program in the multi-task section.  Does NOT work.  All other programs (must be over 300 on my iPad 64 gb WiFi Black) work fine.  I have 18 gb free space.
iCal in iCloud works fine; and my MBP-13" running LION 10.7.4 opens iCal in all views perfectly.
What is the problem with iCal?  How to fix this???  It has worked perfectly from 23 March 2012 until this morning – and I have the same 15 calendars that I used before moving to LION and iCloud 2 weeks ago (plus one birthday calendar listed under "subscriptions").
Help, someone please, as I really really count on being able to travel with my iPad only and having my iCal events and alarms etc.
Best regards,
Steve Schulte

It's been so long, I forgot!   I do remember it had to do with accepting invitations-- I don't do that any longer!
I also use BusyCal (primarily for the snooze feature which I use 20x/day at least!)
Let me know if you get this to work-- I think I had to use a backup copy -- I should have posted my full solution back then, let me see if I have it in my files and I'll repost---

  • ICal won't start

iCal won't start on my G5. It gives an error message, "Cocoa Error 513", and closes when you click OK. Does anyone know what the problem is? I have already replaced the application from another computer, but get the same result.

    What MacOS are you using?
I would reinstall iCal from the MacOS install disk (optional install and select iCal only)
First try to run Disk Utility to repair permissions and Run Software Update.

CANNOT SEND MAIL.  THE USER NAME OR PASSWORD FOR SMTP:******@[email protected] is incorrect.  I have checked and they are the same and
correct.  I have removed and rebuilt the email account but still doesn't work.

Probably. Call the store and confirm that they will have a stock and when they open, etc.

  • Itunes won't start, new iMac 10.6.6

Extreme frustration. I tried everything, redownload, reinstalled, deleted plists, cleaned caches, repaired permissions (another story in itself, SL 10.6.6 is still beta). When I go to start itunes, it immediately goes to the alert box "quit unexpectedly". Since it's a brand new imac, I get tech support, they couldn't figure it out either. Made a test account and it ran ok, so it appears that the problem is in my home user. I already had to do a reinstall of the system once as the system wouldn't shut down on the original account. Was hoping someone here might be more astute than the SOS appl crew.
    thanks

I have the same, after Apple replaced my HD (it was one of those 'will-maybe-crash disks) trouble started... performance went down, programs won't start up... very frustrating, since apple won't give tech support on that my machine is 2 months old...

  • ICal won't start up! unexpectedly quits...

As soon as i start up iCal, it immediately shuts down and gives me the msg that "The application iCal has unexpectedly quit"
    what do i do?

I really don't know what else I can do, but I STOPPED using iCal - I am giving up.
Here is a short description of what happens exactly, I hope that someone at Apple is reading this to enlighten me. By the way I trashed everything and wanted to start from scratch - yes, I was willing to lose all data for iCal to work. But no success, I am back to diary and pencil ...
    Okay, here we go:
    1. Upon firing up, it stays for 6 sec and quits unexpectedly (this we knew already!)
    2. Under ~library/application support/iCal/sources, iCal generates a 25 NEW CALENDARs the first time and then one calender extra each time. THIS IS CRAZY. For the short moment I can have a peek in iCal, I see iCal has laid down a new calendars (why??)
    3. I trashed com.apple.iCal under Cache, but no difference AND this folder has 2 subfolders (incoming and temp files) which are empty.
    4. I trashed the library prefs for iCal com.apple.iCal.plist, fired iCal up, same problem!
I checked the UNIX command s at the Terminal, it says this:
    Welcome to Darwin!
    c211-28-65-113:~ hisham$ /Previous\ Systems/Previous\ System\ 1/usr/bin/calendar; exit
    calendar: no calendar file: ``calendar''
    logout
But I can't figure out more than what I have done.
Any advice will be highly appreciated!
    Cheers

  • ICal won't start on my iMac

iCal will not open on my iMac.   There is a question mark over top of the icon and when I right click on it all I get is 2 options...."remove from dock" or "show recents".   When I click on "show recents" nothing happens.    iCal is working perfectly fine on my iPad and iPhone and was working just fine yesterday on my iMac.   Any suggestions?

I finally figured it out.....went to Finder and it opened fine from there.    Removed the icon that had the questionmark on it and dragged a new one to the dock and everything is working fine

  • Adobe Premiere elements 8 won't start new project; crash reports

I just bought Premiere elements 8 and downloaded it, twice, because every time i try to start a new project a crash report comes up and the program closes. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
    Thanks!

    Hi Alondra,
there is a separate forum for Premiere Elements at
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere/premiere_elements
I suggest that you look over there. They have a Premiere Elements FAQs section posted over on the right hand side of the thread listing. So I suggest that you look at those FAQs and if you don't find your answer there, then post in the main section of the Premiere Elements forum.
Also if your computer has a Nvidia video card there is a banner at the top of the forum with specific info.
    Good luck.

  • ICal won't update new email address

    Hi,
I am having trouble updating my email address for iCal. It's stuck using an old address... so anytime I try to set the alarm the email just bounces.
I've tried updating my card in my address book several different times and deleted any and all duplicates but it just wont take. It keeps reverting back to the old address.
Anybody have any ideas how I might be able to shake loose that old address and get iCal to shift over to the new one.
    Thanks much
    Bob

Make sure your old address is not in Mail's Previous Recipients.

  • ICal won't start up

So, I got the grey screen problem fixed, the iBook starts up fine, but now I've lost the ability to open iCal. I can't figure it out, I've used Disk Utility, nothing works. this problem came with the finder problem that I posted in a different spot. But iCal starts up, then unexpectedly quits (though, not so unexpectedly anymore).

    Doug,
Find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Drag it to the Desktop, then log out/in or restart and reattempt to open iCal. Let us know what happens.

  • ICal won't display new invites

    Here's my problem.
I scheduled events in Outlook on my work computer. I invited myself by sending an e-mail to my mac at home. From Mail, I clicked on the event on my mac. It opened iCal. Then, nothing. It doesn't display, it doesn't allow me to do anything.
    Please help me.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I get the same problem responding to invites from another mac user - he uses iCal to invite me, both of us have the latest iCal, both of us have a .Mac account, both use Mail, both have the right addresses in the 'Me' part of Address Book etc. I don't understand!
When i receive the invite by Mail, I click it, iCal opens but that is it. Nothing else. Nothing appears in the Notifications window, the event does not appear in any of my Calendars and I have no option to assign it to a particular Calendar - nothing.
When I send my friend an invite it works fine at his end though! Typical...
    Help much appreciated
    Thanks

  • Ical won't start. Getting an "ical quit unexpectedly" before it even starts

This is the error I am getting, any help is greatly appreciated.
    Dyld Error Message:

    jettw11,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
First try to delete the iCal cache file.
If that is not successful, download and reapply the OS X 10.5.2 Combo Update.

  • ICal won't sync with iPad, iCal won't sync with iPad

My iCal won't sync with my iPad. Anyone know why? The iPad takes on the iCal but the iCal won't take the iPad entries.

    Hello Squeegeefrog,
Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
You mention that iCal (or Calendar on OS X Yosemite) won't sync with your iPad.
Are you using iCloud Calendar? If so, the advice and  troubleshooting steps in these articles can help you sync the calendar on your Mac with your iPad using iCloud:

  • ICal won't save information

iCal won't save new information. Deleting information does work. It worked fine until a couple days ago and I don't know what changed to cause this strange behavior. It will work on other accounts on my system.
I have noticed other posts regarding the same problem with minor differences but all stating iCal won't retain information. None of them have been answered.
iCal is very useful to me. Can anyone help?
    Thank you.

This is not a mobile me issue. I am not a mobile me subscriber, and I have just recently gotten into a situation where iCal behaves as if there is nothing wrong (I can move things around, add events etc) then when I quit and start it up again, it looks like all my changes went missing. This is the same behaviour for caldav and local calendars. Oddly enough, if I go to google calendar and make changes there, I see them in iCal. I also see updates if I make changes on the iPhone and then sync.
I have gone to the finder and deleted all calendars and iCal preferences. When I fire up iCal again, it shows the standard starting state with home and work calendars. I can make changes and they get saved and everything. Now, when I restore the backup file I made, it goes back to not saving anything.
