ICal won't stop upgrading

I recently purchased an ipad and wanted to sync my ical on my macbook pro.  After turning on icloud on my macbook my ical has the message "upgrading ical calendars".  No matter what I do I can't get the popup to go away and I can't use ical.  I can't force quit ical because it will just restart itself.  I manually restarted my macbook and ical still has the message "upgrading ical calendars".  This has been going on for hours.  Please please help!!!  I manage my whole life through ical!

I had the same issue with my brand new Iphone and my Macbook Pro ICal.  In short, after hours on the phone and at the Genius Bar, my calendar is back on the computer (thanks to a lucky back up I had), partially on the Cloud (Choosing to ignore all my Blue dates while copying three other colors) and nowhere to be found on the phone.
I've tried turning off all cloud computing and syncing through ITunes. It says it's syncing, but it does not.
I've tried turning all Cloud computing on and letting it sync that way. Nothing has changed.
I wish I could tell you how we finally got the "upgrading" message to stop, but I don't recall what folder the Phone Support took me into or what file we ultimately had to trash. I do recall it was going to erase whatever was left in my calendar.
In short, I've learned that IOS is not interested in interacting with OSX Lion.  And beware the OSX Mavericks upgrade, because that disables most of the few remaining conveniences that do exist between the two.
At this point, I have one more week to either keep or return the IPhone and if I don't get this thing
solved by Monday.... It's back to Android for me. Hard to believe my HTC Evo did a better job or relating to my Macbook Pro than Apple's own phone.

  • My ical won't stop upgrading, I can't shut down my macbook

when I click ical, it just started to upgrade by itself and it wont stop upgrading, and I cant quit the app neither shut down the macbook.

    Jen,
First of all from the  Menu select "Force Quit..." and choose iCal.
Then try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To find the Preferences folder, use Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart and check iCal for functionality.

  • ICloud won't stop upgrading

after an iOS update to 8.1.2 on my iPad mini and iphone 4s iCloud drive won't stop upgrading. I have tried everything on the support forums and what Apple suggested to do. icloud won't accept my password on my devices but will on pc and it will work on iTunes, face time and App Store.  This has been going on for approx two weeks and is getting rather frustrating. Has any one else had the same problem and if so have you been able to rectify it???

    Try some basic troubleshooting:
    (A) Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
    (C) Setup as new (data will be lost if you do not have backup)
    Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings

  • ICal won't stop taking the times out of my event names

I make my calendar events as follows: "10:00 doctor appt"
This makes it so I can see the time at a glance and means that I didn't forget to put a time.  I also like feeling entirely in control of my calendar.
However, iCal keeps taking the time out and adding it to the state of the event, which I don't like.  I don't mind it changing the state as long as it leaves the time in the text.  I've tried to find a way to turn off this functionality, but I can't find a checkbox for it.  I've been having to manually fix the text on each event once or twice before the time will stay, which is extremely annoying.  Is there any way to get the text to stay that I've missed?  If not, can Apple please include a fix for this in their next update?  Thanks.

    Betafly,
Generally speaking, I enter my events in the "Month" view.
Try entering the event by typing "doctor appt at 10:00" This is what is displayed when I use that entry method:
If the "Month" view window is too small the time will not display, so make sure that the window is large enough to display the time.
Also, open Calendar Help and look for "Add events to calendars." That will help explain various text entry techniques.

  • ICal won't launch after 10.5.2 upgrade

my iCal won't launch after 10.5.2 upgrade. it won't even give an "unexpectedly quit" message, it pops up then quits, then nothing. This happened immediately after the upgrade today. I got the leopard disc out and did an archive and install then it worked perfect, no issues, then I did a software update (since I was back to 10.5.0), and installed the 10.5.2 security upgrade, now iCal will not launch, am I the only one with this problem?

I had the exact same problem -- doubled events and could not edit anything. I flushed the cache as describe in some more detail here: http://www.tipstrs.com/tip/2506/iCal-problem-with-Leopard-Upgrade and everything started working just fine.

  • Text won't stop deleting, delete key appears to get "stuck"

Sorry if this is in the wrong topic, I have never used the support forums for any of the multitude of problems I have had with my Mac, but this one is severe and odd enough that I couldn't even find anyone else discussing it (although I'm sure someone is, but I tried many search key combinations on Google and only found unrelated things), so I decided to at least get it documented.
I have had an issue that has happened at least 3 times I can remember (I am fairly certain it has happened more, closer to 7-8, those are just the times I am 100% confident about), although very spaced apart and infrequent, where my delete/backspace key seems to get "stuck". However, at least one time I can verify that I never even hit the key. Whatever text I currently have open immediately starts deleting at lightspeed, and I can do nothing to stop it. None of the other keys on my keyboard work, and though my mouse works, if I click somewhere else, it starts deleting the text there. When I force it to go to another window where there isn't an open text box, I get the general Mac error sound, and it repeats non-stop, and faster than I've ever heard it. I have to do a hard shut-down, although once it led to a kernal panic. When I have stopped whatever is happening before it panics though, when I restart, I don't receive any kind of error message, nor the message about OS X not having been shut down properly.
Every single time it has happened when I was typing something that couldn't be saved, like a message on a forum, a private message on a site or an IM chat window. Sometimes I lost a half hour's worth of work or more.
The first time it happened, I honestly thought someone had managed to hack into my computer, but another time I was using a physical modem and Airport was turned off, and when I ripped out the cord, it didn't stop.
I have a MacBook Pro from 2007, running the most recent version of Tiger. I haven't had the money to upgrade. All security updates are up-to-date, with one exception: I have not upgraded to the most recent version of iTunes.
Honestly, I currently am having and have been having a bunch of other severe issues with my Mac, so troubleshooting will be quite difficult as it's not at all impossible it's a result of one of my other problems. I also currently am dealing with some health problems that make me unable to try to find the root of the problem, specifically I have a problem with my hand and wrist that makes typing very difficult.
If someone does recognize this issue and already knows why it might be happening, I'd appreciate the help. I'd also appreciate anyone letting me know how I can prevent it OR what to do when it begins and how to stop it. But I probably will be unable to go through a typical troubleshooting rundown.
As I said, I just wanted this documented, and I also would like to know if anyone else has had this problem. I have never experienced an issue like this with any of my past computers, including Macs and PCs. I do know however that the key is NOT physically getting stuck - as in getting lodged down and continuing to be pressed. There is at least 1 time I can verify I never even hit the key (I wasn't typing anything at the time). I am fairly sure the problem is entirely unrelated to the actual delete key itself.
I'll describe the symptoms one more time:
At a random time, with no discernible warning, text contained in whatever text box I have open begins deleting itself. Several paragraphs disappear in a matter of seconds.
Pressing escape or any other key on the keyboard does nothing. If I click to another area in the text, it will immediately begin deleting wherever I have placed the cursor. If I go to another window with text that can be edited, it begins deleting there. It does not delete in more than one place simultaneously.
If I bring another window without any kind of "deletable" text to the front, one of the general Mac error sounds (I'm not sure which one it is) starts happening and repeats without stopping at a rate that could induce a seizure. To stop it all, the only thing I have found can be done is a hard shut-down. Another time it continued to end in a kernal panic. I wish I had the details of the error, but it was so long ago and I have no idea which panic is the right one in the logs.
I have no way of knowing what programs were running at the time, as obviously that's not something I'm able to pay attention to when it happens, and it has happened so randomly and infrequently it's nothing I've been able to document. Since I have to restart to make it stop, I've then lost that info and I have no time to try to write it down or something beforehand.
I have not had any similar issues that I know of (for instance, for the "g" key keeps repeating and won't stop typing "g's") and I've never experienced this on any past computer.
Thanks for anyone who can help!
If you aren't able to offer advice but have had this issue yourself, PLEASE let me know. I can't seem to find anyone who has experienced this particular problem.

"Cleaning the keyboard is the first step in troubleshooting sticky/stuck keys."
Okay, I guess I misunderstood, although I am still confused. You're saying that since the other user did an extensive clean of their keyboard and this did not solve the problem, it is "most likely" a hardware problem, correct? Wouldn't a thorough cleaning without any results show that it's probably not physically related to the keyboard?
"The "delete" key may be defective or the cover you are using somehow is making the key stick. If you have ruled out the latter and everything else, your only other alternative is to take the MBP to your local Apple Store or AASP. The staff will check out your keyboard (free) to confirm if you are having a hardware problem. If you have AppleCare or ProCare, the repairs will be free. If not.................."
Well, I had just said in my most recent post that it has now happened with other keys, and in my initial post that it happened at times when my hands were nowhere near the keyboard. It is not a defective delete key and the cover is not making the keys stick - it doesn't adhere to them and does not have any sticky substance on it of any kind. I am an experienced computer user, and I know my computer very well. While I am not a psychic that can always know what is causing a problem, I am able to discern with much accuracy what is NOT causing it.
Also, I have significant health issues so getting to an Apple store would be a huge challenge for me. And although I have AppleCare any repairs won't be free. Due to some small physical damage my laptop obtained a few years ago, I have been completely refused almost all service that I paid over $300 for, even though the damage is completely superficial. After fighting this, I was told they WOULD repair my computer, however, they would also repair the physical damage despite my insisting NOT to; I had no choice in the matter and the cost would be a minimum of $1,500 (I also would not be informed the exact price until after and my credit card would be charged without my knowledge - I had to give them my credit card number and sign away their right to make any charges and when I requested being contacted before they charged me for the repairs I didn't want done, I was told they did not do that). My family is struggling to pay for my $5 medications.
When my logic board died (that same issue that affected thousands of computer users), I had to print out Apple's report from their site, which stated that they would replace and repair them free of charge to ANY Mac owner with a computer that met certain qualifications (which mine did). When it happened, completely out of nowhere, I knew immediately that was the problem, yet still had to go through the insulting and idiotic "Is your computer plugged in?" list of things and a customer WITH AppleCare was being refused a service they'd offered to people WITHOUT AppleCare, for a known manufacturing defect that has occurred widely in nearly every brand of computer made.

  • Ios 8 photos app won't stop syncing

Recently upgraded to an iPhone 6 and iOS 8.  When I open the Photos app, it always has a Syncing..... indicator at the bottom and won't stop.  I have tried disabling Photo Stream and iCloud photo albums and doing a hard restart.  I also deleted out many old photos that appear to have been corrupted during the upgrade.
    How can I fix this?
    Thank you.

Still not fixed after upgrading to 8.1.
Also, I tried enabling iCloud Photo (Beta) and got an interesting message:  Syncing would begin once the restore from backout was complete.  This is interesting because I do not use iCloud for backup and the settings are turned off.
    Help?!?

  • My cooling fan won't stop kicking in on Mac Pro

Suddenly in the last week or so my cooling fan started kicking in while over the past 2+ years it has only run once or twice - now it won't stop!
I thought that it may have been due to an increase in RAM from 7G to 24G (3, 8G matched sticks) but after un-installing the 24G it was still running frequently, though not as much.
I have performed (in order) both a PRAM and SMC reset.  I have also repaired all discs, reset permissions and dumped render files (I primarily use my Mac for video editing in FCP X).
I am fearing now that this may in fact be due to recent updates to Lion (10.7.3) or FCP X (10.0.3)
In an attempt to get FCP X to run better (there are many bugs in the latest update as evidenced by numerous posts in that discussion area) I also contacted NVIDIA for updates to my graphics card and was told by them that it is not compatible with Lion.  I now have a Radeon card on order from the Apple store.
Any other advice??  This fan is not only an annoyance for me but as I also record voice-overs for my clients I simply cannot have it running all the time.

    > I am fearing now that this may in fact be due to recent updates to Lion (10.7.3) or FCP X (10.0.3)
Only if the RAM is "defective" or "boarderline" would a new OS trigger an issue. But then someone else jumped to same conclusion when they upgraded to Lion recently and had been running Snow Leopard for awhile.
Every new OS brings some changes and some RAM will fail and fall to the wayside but the only way to know is trial and error; to get the vendor to replace and test.
Sometimes the RAM has been loosely seated. Sometimes the OS seems to be potential culprit (doesn't happen with clean install).
A USB or Firewire cable can be enough, too, even if just plugged and not attached to a powered on device.
You can even try two 8GB DIMMs and leave one out and see if process of elimination is of any value, or even boot wtih just a single DIMM. You don't need to have two or more.
But I would not mix 8GB with others, sounds like you had 3 x 2GB + 1GB, or 3 x 1GB + 4GB which would look and sound to be more iffy than your new set.
Btw, where did you get new set?

  • Sync won't stop

After upgrading to new OS, syncing won't stop. All it says is "waiting for objects to syncronise", and this goes on for hours unless I disconnect the iPhone. Very annoying!
Also, every time I connect the phone to my computer, iTunes start to synchronize 707 ringtones, although I a) only have 165 of them, and b) they are unchanged since the last time I connected the phone.
How do I solve these problems? - preferably without whiping the phone clean (wich the new OS-installation did ... took me hours&hours to restore everything)
Thanks in advance for every answer.

I did. When that didn't work, I tried once again, shutting down computer and phone and start all over again. Still the same. This means that when i connect the phone, the whole syncing (of hundreds and hundreds of signals) starts once more. I must be doing something wrong, but I looked at the manual, websites and so on, without finding a clue - or even a similar problem. I'm at a bit of a loss here. Thank you so much for trying!
