ICalc on OSX Mavericks without iCloud

I'd like to sync my iCalc as I've done for the past 5 years on all MACs, iPhones and iPads.  I don't want to use iCloud.
Why must Apple now force me to use iCloud since I clearly don't need nor want to use it ?

Apple is in fact forcing me to use iCloud because otherwise I would not be able to continue normal use of software and devices, muchless update them locally as I always have.
Not being able to continue use of a feature that worked locally and not ONLY works with iCloud is not forceful for you ?
It is not a feature of the OSX 10.9 which you chose to update to. Reinstall the backup you made before installing Mavericks and you will be back in business.

  • How can I downgrade back to OSX Mountain Lion From OSX Mavericks without any Time Machines Backups

How do I downgrade from OSX Mavericks to OSX Mountain Lion. I do NOT have a Time Machine Backup and I dont want to lose all my files. Is there a way to downgrade WITHOUT a Time Machine Backup and still have all my files????

Since you need to erase your hard drive in order to downgrade, you would lose all your files. You cannot do what you want without erasing, so make a backup first.

Yes. But you really need more than 2 GBs of RAM.

  • How can I start an app on OSX Mavericks without switching to it?

What's up to all my Appleheads!
I usually do my research (extensively if I'm particularly annoyed) regarding any of my Apple questions, but  I can't seem to find an answer to the following:
Let's say I'm working in a full screen app (e.g. - Safari) window/space and I bring up spotlight/dock/launchpad to initiate/open/start an app, how can I prevent Mavericks from automatically "pulling" me to the designated window where the app is loading? I would like to be able to continue working on whatever it is I'm working on while at the same time have my app of choice start up in the "background" without being brought to it while it's still starting up. I know I'm not the only person that finds this behavior annoying, as I've seen it phrased a number of ways, but this question in particular hasn't been addressed (that I can find).
    A little info:
    Early 2011 13" MBP
    8gb RAM
    500gb HDD
    OSX 10.9.4
P.S. I've already tried the 'When switching to an application, switch to a Space with open windows for that application' within Mission Control settings. This does not yield the result I am searching for.

  • OSX Mavericks endless iCloud error message

Since the download I have been getting an error message every 2 seconds that my computer can not connect with iCloud. I am having no issue with iCloud just the error message. How do I make it stop?
    Thanks

    OK, here's my story:
I re-installed OS X using the re-install partition. When that was done, Mail.app still had a problem. I noticed that my email address was entered as "me.com" instead of "mac.com", but changing it did not seem to work. Then I saw that I had a bunch of old alias email addresses that I don't use anymore, so I deleted all of those, and after that I had a pull-down menu of email addresses to choose from. I chose the "mac.com" address. At first it didn't seem that anything was happening, but when I went back to Mail.app I saw that my mailboxes were being re-filled, slowly. This process continues as I write, but the problem seems to be solved. How, I'm not sure.
It is definitely maddening, however, when Mail says to delete the iCloud account from System Prefs and System Prefs says to delete it from Mail and that pop-up window keeps popping up repeatedly. I did not find this to be a user-friendly experience.

  • How do I install Mavericks without invoking the OSX Server Plugin?

How do I perfrom a clean install of Mavericks from the Recovery Partition without it automatically installing, and then invoking or executing the OSX Server Plugin that ultimately results in rendering open directory operable as well as the server.  I have ignored this continously, but the other day I went into the terminal and typed ARP -s that lists the shortname for the host of my MacBook Pro and it gave a totally different name than what I had given it in the wi-fi network interface under the WINS tab. More importantly, I do not want to install open directory nor the osx server plugin as it opens up more complexity than I want to deal with.  Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.  BTW, below are the steps I performed for installing Mavericks.
    1. Powered on the MacBook Pro and then hit the Option key.
    2. This took me into the Recovery Partition, whereby I went into the Disk Util and erased or formatted the hard-drive.
    3. I then clicked out of the Disk Utility and went into the Recovery Mode by clicking on reinstall the current OS.
    4. I went through all the prompts and the system downloaded a current version of Mavericks.
    5. After completion, I turned on my Macbook Pro and went through the prompts to install Mavericks.
    6. This is all I did, and I didn't download the OSX plugin nor invoke it in the new version of the Operating System.
I just assumed that it was a standalone version until I found the server for osx running with open directory invoked, the server invoked, along
with other components relative to a new standalone version.
Again, my question is simple: How can I reinstall Mavericks without it downloading and automatically
iinvoking the components as described above?

Hi. Because both Mavericks and Windows 8 are still new, they may not be free of error. Apple needs more time to perform more tests to ensure that these two different OS's will work properly without getting in conflicts. If it's posdible, I highly recommand you to downgrade back to Lion or Mountain Lion and install Windows 7 (if you have a copy of it). In my experience, all advises from Genius Bar members and computer articles confirm that  Windows 7 will work on Macs with Lion OS. It should also work on Mountain Lion. Besides Boot Camp, you could try to virtualize Windows OS and its applications by using VirtualBox, CrossOver and other VMs. I already have an Oracle VirtualBox but I would like to try Boot Camp since it allows me to enjoy almost all Windows features that may be limited in VMs.

I do this and no matter what I seem to do this message continues to return.
Can anybody explain how to resolve this problem (please bear in mind that I am noy very computer literate).

  • Wife and I have separate iOS devices, separate iCloud accounts. But we both want to access mail from the iMac (OSX Mavericks.) Currently only my mail is linked. How to configure so that wife's iCloud mail can be seen  on iMac. Simple and explicit please!

My wife and I have separate ioS devices (iOS7)  with separate iCloud accounts.
So we access our mail separately on these devices. But we would both like to be able to access mail at the desk top (iMac, OSX Mavericks). Currently only my mail is linked. How do I set up the Mac to allow it to access my wife's e-mail too, either in the same mail inbox or a separate one. Simple instructions please!

If Mail in Mavericks is the same as earlier versions you can select accounts in the sidebar, so that you can either display the inboxes for individual accounts, or the contents of all the account inboxes. (If the accounts don't show click the disclosure triangle next to 'INBOX'). The layout may have changed since the version I have - Snow Leopard - but you should be able to do the same thing.

  • BEFORE INSTALLING OSX Mavericks, do I have to create a back up of all the contents on my Mac book pro or i just have to install it and everything stays without getting deleted.

before installing osx mavericks, do i have to create a back up of all the stuff that i have on my mac book pro or can i just click install and everything stays without getting deleted.

Never Ever do anything with an operating System without backing up first.
While it is usual for a new OS to install with no loss of data, the time you do it without first backing up will most likely be the time that you wish you had backed up.
In all of the updates and upgrades Apple distributes there is a recommendation to backup your data before installing.
The easiest option is to get an external hdd if you do not already have one, plug it into the mac and follow the prompts to use the drive for Time Machine. Note that any data existing on the external hdd will be erased so use a new one or one that you are confident is ok to erase without a disaster ensuing.
Also ensure that System Preferences -> Energy Saver has been set so the Computer Sleep is Never so that the backup will not be interrupted if this is the first backup or it is a long time since the last backup was done.

I recommend to check www.icloud.com, are your contacts shown there?
If not -> Something might be not set up correctly on you iOS devices.
Also.. Simple but maybe occuring: Contacts -> Preferences -> Accounts -> iCloud is enabled? (Should be by default if you have iCloud setup via the system preferences, but you never know..)

  • Problem with Apple Mail since OSX Mavericks

    Hello Folks,
since i've updated my mid-2012 iMac to OSX Mavericks, i have a problem with Apple Mail: When i start the Apple Mail, the program says that it could not connect to the icloud mail server, and that i should enter my icloud passwort. When i do this, everything works fine. But that annoys me, because it worked without any problem under OSX Mountain Lion.
Has anyone an idea what i can do to fix this?
    Regards,
    Alex

  • Messages on iPhone 4 (iOS 5.1.1) to Messages 8.0 on OSX Mavericks not working

    Hello All,
I have a very specific issue with my wifes iPhone 4 on iOS 5.1.1 using Messages to send to my MacBook Pro (MBP) on OSX Mavericks with version 8.0 of Messages.
I find that when ever she sends me a SMS via Messages going over Apples iCloud, that I don't get the message on the MBP and it shows with a red ! on her iPhone.
I have tested a number of different situations,
    1) At the moment, both my iPhone 4 (iOS 7.1) and MBP (Messages 8.0) are setup to receive via my mobile number.
When I send a test SMS from her iPhone to my mobile number, the SMS makes it to my iPhone, but not on the MBP Message, and she has a red ! on the SMS on her iPhone, I can try to resend the SMS a number of times and it never makes it to my MBP.
    2) I then logged out of iMessage on the MBP Message, so only my iPhone is setup to get SMS via iCloud.
When I send a test SMS from her iPhone to my mobile number, the SMS makes it to my iPhone and all further SMS sent now work and there is no more red ! on her iPhone.
    3) I then logged back into iMessage on the MBP and setup Messages to use my email address only.
I then send a SMS from her iPhone to my email address, the SMS makes it and I get it on the MBP Messages. I send a second SMS and that works too.
I then send a third SMS and that fails, there is now a red ! on the iPhone and no message on the MBP. After numerous re-sends and additional SMS to the same email address, I don't get anymore messages to the MBP.
When looking at the syslog on the MBP, the only logging I have at the time of the SMS' being set are:

Is anyone aware of a know issue with iOS 5.1.1 on iPhone 4 that has issues sending message via iCloud to Messages on OSX?
I am not able to reinstall iOS 5.1.1 as it's not allowed anymore, I can't upgrade to iOS 6.1.x as that is not allowed either.
I don't want to upgrade to iOS 7.1 as it's slow as anything on an iPhone 4 and Apple should have left iOS 6 as the last version for iPhone 4
    Thanks
    Josh

Thank you for the comment and the link.
Unfortunately what you have said is not very helpful and untrue. I have not caused the issues here, there seems to be a bug or design issues here between iOS 5.1.1 and Message 8.0 on OSX. That is what I am asking about.
Maybe what you may mean by your response is that by not upgrading to iOS 7.1, it will not be fixed.
But you can't say 100% that upgrading to iOS 7.1 is the fix, as you don't know 100% what the issue/bug/fault is.
As an aside, I am looking for a solution apart from updating from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 7.1.
I do run iOS 7.1 on my iPhone 4 and have disabled as much as possible and it's still not as good as iOS 6 for speed and regret the upgrade.
