ICalendar file works in Outlook, but not in iCal

I'm having a problem with the iCal files for The Decemberists band tour dates:
http://www.decemberists.com/tour.aspx
(see right column)
For example:
http://www.decemberists.com/tour_ical.aspx?eid=101271
They open fine in Outlook on a PC. When I try on a Mac, iCal chokes on them:
"This calendar file is unreadable. No events have been added to your iCal calendar."
Somehow, Apple's iCal must treat the iCalendar spec more strictly than Outlook.

I experimented a bit and it turns out:
- Change VERSION:1.0 to VERSION:2.0 and it loads (it seems iCal just refuses VERSION:1.0 calendars)
That fixed the file for iCal on Apple, but broke it for PC Outlook on PC. I can't take that trade off.
- The zero-time event (235900 to 235900) is unusable in iCal as it is a line of an event which cannot be selected it seems and is hardly visible.
I haven't tried to play with that. However, not all the events are zero time:
http://www.decemberists.com/tour_ical.aspx?eid=106468
That still doesn't work in iCal.
Thanks for your help.

  • XML (RSS) Spry Dataset File Works in Preview But Not Over Internet

    hello
    I am trying to build a custom feed reader using the Spry framework in Dreamweaver CS4 and everything seems to go smoothly until I actually host the file (with the accompanying js and css files) and try to view it over the internet
    previewing from DW shows everything working the way it should
    I feel like I am missing something obvious ... but not sure what
    thanks for any help!

    Hi, i have a similar problem..
    These URL returns a XML:
    1) http://www.bolsadesantiago.com/intradayServlet?symbol=IPSA
    2) http://www.valorfuturo.com/contenidos_vf/proyectos/clientes/penta/titularnoticias.asp
    I use a CS4 and both works in preview, but only first works over internet (IE7).
    I suspect that 2° has a problem of syntax XML, but work with jQuery.

  • SWF files work in browsers, but not local?

    I can view flash content from the net in web browsers, but
    the swf files I have on my local hard drive do not work. They are
    asking for 'open With' but when I look for the flash folder in
    programs files its not there. I have have also looked in system32
    folder can find it anywhere. Can anybody please help, this is
    driving me up the wall.

    The code you have posted is not the same code as used in:
    <div id="gallery">
    in the link above.
    The reason that the Flash is not displaying in FF is that the portion of the code used by FF was omitted. The code currently used on the page only works in IE.
    I'm no great fan of the IE conditional statements used in the code you posted so I don't blame you for not using it. But you do need to provide something for FF.... the old, out dated method would be to add and <embed> for FF... here's the newer method..
    So either use code you posted above or better yet, get rid of that and replace the current <object> with
    <div id="gallery">
    <object id="FlashID" data="flash/201.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="958" height="242">
       <param name="movie" value="flash/201.swf">
       <param name="quality" value="high" />
         <param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
         <param name="swfversion" value="6.0.65.0"/>
    </object>
    </div>
    Give that a try. Will work in both FF and newer IE versions.

  • Video files work on computer but not on published site

    I am definitely missing something here.
    I redesigned my website with iWeb and I am very pleased with the results. (The original site was done with Dreamweaver but then I migrated to Mac.)
    I published it to my computer to check everything and then put it up on my server with a ftp program (filezilla. works for me). The page shows great on internet.
    I now want to add a page with a newly created video. I drag the video clip on to the movie page I created. It is an avi file. On my computer it all works fine but when I publish it (to my computer to be sure it is OK), the video clip does not show up on the new page. I have tried with Safari, Firefox and Chrome. Same story on all.
    I am afraid to upload it to the internet before I sort this out.
    So my two questions would be:
    1. What am I doing wrong?
    2. What file formats does iWeb support?
    thanks for any help.

    The Miro Video Convertor is useful for format conversion if you want to provide as many as possible to encourage html5 playback in most browsers.
    If you don't want to be bothered with all this, fallback players will use an MP4 (or MOV) in most situations and fallback to flash for browsers like IE. Examples are JW Longtail, FlowPlayer and VideoJS.
    This method uses the QuickTime plugin. The problem is that, in a lot of cases, browsers will ask permission to run the plugin and visitors shouldn't be made to jump through hoops to get the movie to play.
    Its worth the extra effort to make sure that as many of your website visitors as possible can just click and play.
    A lot of people resort to Vimeo and YouTube but the problem with them is that visitors are tempted to leave your site at the end of the movie. Vimeo is better than YouTube in this respect and also has more customizing options.

  • Links in linked local .htlm files work i IE, but not in Firefox.

    I collect genealogy data in tables in local .html files.
    Links in every .html page to parents, families and verifications.
    The first link works OK, but if I click on a link in the already linked .html page, Firefox hangs.
    Using links in this manner works OK when I use IE.
    If this problem is policy related, please advice a method to bypass the policy.

  • Setting up new account works in Outlook, but not in Mail

    I set up a new account in Mail just like I have done in the past, but it refuses to find the test mail I sent it. I can see the test mail by checking it through my ISPs web mail program, and I can see the mail even by setting up an account on Windows in Outlook Express, but Mail can't find it.
    I set up the new account EXACTLY as I had set up accounts in the past, obviously with different names and passwords, but no result.
    You can see a screenshot of my Accounts summary at http://www.wordpix.ca/mailscreenshot.jpg
    Thanks

    Stu,
    I am not sure you want to leave that screenshot up for long, but hopefully we can resolve, soon.
    Are you certain that the full email address is needed as the Username entry, or might only using the true Username portion of the address, i.e. "cindy"? Mail is very rigorous about the form of the Username, and does extract it from the email address, as some mail clients may do.

  • Adobe.mst file works in XP, but not in Windows 7

    I have a little problem with customizing adobe in windows 7.
    I have created a MST file in adobe costomization wizard 9, using XP, and when deploying it on a windows 7 client, it just deploy the msi file.
    this is what i run:
    msiexec.exe /qn ALLUSERS=2 /m MSIJDGEJ /norestart /i "AdbeRdr930_nb_NO.msi" TRANSFORMS="AdbeRdr930_nb_NO.mst"
    Do i have to create the MST file from a windows 7 client?
    Best

    Nevermind, turns out that FF just didn't close properly when I was editing that file, after forcing it to close using taskmanager and starting again that userchrome.css worked just fine. Bug in closing the FF in this case.

  • ICal appears to work in Safari, but not in iCal

    I'm running iCal server on 10.5.2 server. If I load up an iCal URL of the form:
    http://ical.example.com:8008/calendars/users/myname/calendar/
    in Safari, it asks me for my id and password for the '/Search' realm, and then I get a nicely presented bunch of XML chunks, which I'm guessing is right. I tried various other URLs and they all seemed to produce sensible looking output too, no errors or anything.
    If I use the same URL in iCal when creating a new account, I just get this error:
    Account information not found
    Request encountered an unexpected error (domain (null) / code 0).
    In the iCal access.log in Server Admin I can see each connection request logs a 401 (for the initial login request), followed by a 207 (Multi-Status WebDAV) response, which seems reasonable. However, iCal 3.0.2 seems not to like it.
    I've also tried enabling SSL (using https and 8443) using a real certificate that works fine for web and mail, but then even the non-secure connection doesn't respond at all. I've turned that off for now.
    Any idea what's wrong or how to fix this?

    some of this this may sound way basic and/or absurd, but give it a try. i'm finally up for a week now.
    but i've been working with 10.5.2 server and there's little snags that trip up everything. first, stability for the entire server hinges on a rock solid dns and open directory base. in short, you must have a fully resolved dns setup or you'll hit wall after wall (208 errors, null 0 errors, etc). you've got to have a FQDN that passes "sudo changeip -checkhostname" (see elsewhere in forums for detailed info).
    next, make sure you've started and stopped (reset) the ical server and the web server after making new groups.
    did you check the firewall for all ports open that are needed?
    if you've been moving things about and/or changing permissions, make sure the owner and groups have been reset to _calandar and _teamserver for ical serving and wiki/blog serving respectively.
    i think ssl is a dead end and not related here.
    finally, (this is the one that wasted my last weekend, chasing red herrings) make sure the trailing slash is present on your ical url. yes, that trailing "/" being absent will result in the null error.
    hope something here hits it for you.
    i feel your pain, seriously. hours and hours, days and days.

  • Power book G4 Leopard 10.5.8. File sharing preference checked but not working after start up until unchecked and the rechecked?

    I hope the title is enough info, please ask. In the mean time I have created an applescript to open preferences/ sharing and uncheck then check the file sharing box. This works but I would obviously prefer it just work normally. I have no corrupt preference files. Perhaps a file is missing? Thank you.

    Greetings Kwnez
    I'm not up to your level of expertise yet. I'm networking and file sharing too, on my Mac Powerbook 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4; OS 10.5.8 Lepoard. At the public library I found by asking the clerk a book Authored by David Pogue. "Mac OS X Leopard the Missing Manual". It (the book) has helped me ask better questions. I'm not saying that your question "
    Power book G4 Leopard 10.5.8. File sharing preference checked but not working after start up until unchecked and the rechecked?
    is hard for me to understand, I went to system preferences and looked at the sharing box. when I clik it it opens up and the first thing I see is my computers name, and under that i see, " Computers on your local network can access your computer at: ...-powerbook-g4-15.local"
    What I'm saying is "Are we on the same Page"

  • Works on emulators but not on mobile devices

    Hello,
    My project works on emulators but not on mobile devices (no image and on Samsung it says "unsupported file").
    Please help, I don't know what to do. My configurations: MIDP 2.1, CLDC 1.1.
    Thanks in advance.

    Edit: I succeeded to solve it accidentally. I did the following: Sign the jar in Netbeans, clean and build, the jar didn't work, I wiped out the .ks from the jar and clean and build again. Now it worked.

  • Medical app from Intuit works in IE, but not Firefox.

    Encrypted medical app works in new IE, but not Firefox. Everything works down to the end, and click on "continue" and nothing happens. A tech and I have spent hours on this. Did not work on FF5 or 6. Did not work on old IE, but did on fresh new version with no data files copied in.

    If it works in IE but not FF, then it has nothing to do with the mp3s. More likely it's because of the HTML on the page.
    To start, page is missing DOCTYPE declaration... a MAJOR problem. The DOCTYPE declares which set of rules the browser will use to display the page. Without it, different browsers go crazy or do not work at all.

  • Flash Player works in Safari but not Internet Explorer 9

    I've installed Flash Player 10.3 and it works in Safari but not Internet Explorer 9. When I look in Manage Add-Ins I see Flash Shockwave but not Flash Player. My operating system is Windows Vista Ultimate (32bit). Safari is 5.0.5 and IE 9 is 9.0.8112.16421. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Flash Player and uninstalling Norton 360. Nothing has worked so far. Can you help?

    Thank you for your reply. Shockwave is loaded and enabled.
    The files in flash directory are: a folder called FlashPlayerTrust: file, flash10q.ocx: file, FlashInstall.log; file, FlashUtil10q_ActiveX.dll; file, FlashUtil10q_ActiveX.exe, file, install.log.
    There is no file: NPSWF32.dll.
    When I test the browsers I get no spinning logo in either Safari or IE9. Safari says: missing plug-in, where I think the logo should be. IE-9 says nothing at the same location.
    Thanks.
