ICH10R one drive always failed RAID0/Big Bang Xpower

Anyone else have a problem with one drive flagged as failed on a RAID array at startup?  I have two WD velociraptors on ports 1 and 2 on my XPower, configured as RAID0 on Windows 7 64.  After any reboot, the system loads fine but the Intel Rapid Storage Technology console always flags my second HD on port 1 as failed.  I know this can't be right as it is a RAID 0 array it shouldn't boot with a drive failed, correct?  All I have to do is click on the drive and "reset to normal" and then it shows the drive working as normal.  Anyone have any ideas?

No real issues operational wise, and I have version 10.1.0.1008 of the Intel Rapid Storage technology installed, which I think is the latest.  The array functions normally, it's just that my drive on port 1 is always flagged as failed on a reboot, which is weird because it's a RAID 0 array.  It shouldn't boot with a failed drive, as far as I know.  Anyway as soon as I hit "reset disk to normal" all seems well, so I guess it's just more of an annoyance.

  • Help Please: Big Bang-XPower: hard drive not found while installing Windows7 x64

    I bought an MSI Big Bang-XPower MB and was trying to install windows7 x64. I have a WD raptor 150GB and Samsung 1TB hard drives. Both drives show up in BIOS. SATA controller setting is in IDE.
    after I clicked at the "install" icon, a window showed up telling me that no hard drive was found. I have seen this problem before with my old MB. All I needed to do with that MB was to load a driver for the hard drive and problem solved. Does anyone know which driver (name and version, please) is the right one for this MB? I went to the MSI driver page and there are several of them. and some of them give me about 50 drives to choose from (I tried about 10 of them but neither worked).
    Also, is IDE or AHCI more appropriate for this MB with Windows7?

    i downloaded and unzipped the file to a USB drive. it instructed me to press F6 to load the driver, but i couldn't find this screen while I was installing windows7. at about what step does this normally show up. i can see this if i were installing xp or vista.
    anyway, when i click at the load driver with the IDE setting, nothing was found. There was a driver when i changed sata setting to ACHI, but the computer told me that was not a valid driver.
    does the drive package have to be loaded in a floppy disc?
    anyway, called tech support and was told that the xpower was one of their newest MB. and the tech rep told me that he had never heard of this problem before. he had no idea what he was talking about. Fail! lol

  • Big Bang-XPower II - how to prevent ARCING?

    Hello everyone,
    1st post, hopefully have placed this in the appropriate section.
    Any day now the Big Bang XPower II should arrive. My primary concern stems from multiple reviews claiming that the gatling style heatsink arcs with the MOSFETs, causing potentially not only complete motherboard failure, but sparks, smoke and (apparently even) fire.
    My question is what would be the best course of action to take in order to prevent this from happening? Would coating the heatsink with some sort of insulation be a good idea? This board looks fantastic; I just don't want it to sizzle and fry >_>

    For starters, it seems from comments of various different people all over the internet that this is indeed a problem and not something made up. I'm not sure that the cause is certainly the heat-sink.
    Knowing MSI, they shall indeed replace the board if it dies because of this. There are however MSI support people across various countries that lack what it takes to realize that the board is to blame here and not a user error, thus declining any RMA request (at least locally). Being a bit more aggressive, or even better, contacting MSI support from the internet will make things easier (RMA will most likely be accepted in that case).
    If you use DIY water-cooling on your system then the best approach is to change the heat-sinks with water-cooling blocks and be done with it.
    If you use air cooling or a CPU-only water-cooling solution then your only choices are two. You either use another heat-sink (possibly a 3rd party one... too bad that I don't think any exist for the XPOWER II) or you don't use a heatsink at all (you remove the existing one).
    All that while assuming that the cause is the heat-sink of course.
    Now, not using a heat-sink (if it is the cause of the problem) sounds like a bad choice by people not familiar with the components of the board. However, the transistors on the VRM have integrated over-temperature protection in them that always kicks in by design (it even kicks is if there is an over-temperature condition on something next to them, but they don't turn the system off in that case cause they don't reach their internal OTP limit). The board also uses a vast amount of phases.
    The things above mean that you can take off the heat-sink without making the system kill itself. Worst case scenario is hitting the OTP limit of the transistors and making the system turn off (or under-clock) under overclocking conditions.
    Now, you might be wondering why the transistors (the driver MOSFETs) with the integrated OTP did not save those boards since the problem is related to them. Well... it's not. The arc sort of creates a short circuit between the input and the output of the power supply (the VRM is essentially a power supply). No protection of any kind can exist there due to the severe lack of space it would need compared to the available space.
    From the 4 screenshots I've seen so far from boards having this problem the arc seems to happen next to the tantalum input capacitors, before the MOSFETs so the MOSFETs can't offer any kind of protection (PWMs aren't able to offer any help either in that case, no matter the protections the have).
    Something final regarding this problem is that the temperature on the affected area (which is close to some of the MOSFETs) is way above 100 degrees Celsius whenever signs of the problem are observed, since it manages to trigger the OTP indicator of MOSFETs placed quite some millimeters away. All that while the system is not stressed at all.
    This is literally THE clue to the fact that something is not right. If the VRM over-temperature LED on the board lights up (or the MSI software shows a VRM over-temperature warning) while the CPU runs at stock settings then your board is affected and you should take measurements before it dies (be it heatsink removal/replacement of board RMA).

    I am facing to issue after BIOS update from 2.6 to 2.7. After update was machine working properly. But after one crash of OS cant boot at all. Crash was probably caused by overloading GPUs but there were no issue with cards and this board during 3 weeks of 100% GPU and CPU load. No video (connected only one GPU card), no Numlock key/led is working (this is good test if PC is reacting even no picture).

    - switch BIOS from A to B also C (with small switch).
    - cleared Cmos with onboard button.
    - removed Battery for a while
    System start booting and stuck always on 9a LED code.
    From manual it looks like it is USB, SATA initialisation phase.
    I think CPU or Mem should be fine.
    Anyone who met this issue or any sollution?
    I am thinking to replace this board under warranty.

  • MSI Big Bang Xpower D4 Debug (No POST, No Beep)

    -MSI Big Bang XPower Mainboard
    -Cooler Master  Silent Pro Gold 1000W PSU
    -MSI GTX460
    -Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600 3 x 2GB RAM (CMP6GX3M3A1600C8)
    -Intel Core i7 970 processor
    Issue:
    While power on, the debug indicator gets to d4 (indicating problem initializing the memory per the handbook) it doesn't POST and no beep.  I have tried with just one RAM at the DIMM1 position, but whatever I tried it consistently gives me d4.
    Any help is much appreciated

    True, Intel i7 970 native speed is in fact 1066, however, the RAM you have can easily be set to say 1333 9 9 9 24 tRFC 88, maybe even 59, CR 1 @ 1.5V's & I would almost guarantee it is going to work. One tidbit they didn't tell you, is the i7 970 & 980X 32nm CPU can be run with up to 1.8V's DRAM Voltage. That's per the current Intel datasheet (absolute maximum chart). Look it up for yourself. I don't want to argue with Intel, or the stock/default of 1066 @ 1.5V's as 100% correct to the letter of the law, but I have some of that RAM & two of these boards, & I know they will perform above 1066. Unless of course, either the board, CPU, or RAM just won't cooperate. With three things in the mix, any one of them can make or break what can be done. Your RAM can be, unless something is grossly wrong with it, be made to run stock/default of 1066 speed @ 1.5V's.
    This is a BBX with Corsair RAM & an i7 970. Wonder what Intel would say about this?

  • MSI Big Bang-XPower New Build Compatibility Questons

    I am doing my first build, and do not see several components I have selected (some already purchased) for my new system in the MSI compatibility literature for the Motherboard.  Can someone please advise if any of the below components will cause issues?  I have done much research and believe I am OK, but would like to have confirmation before proceeding.  As an FYI, I will be doing video editing with the new system:

    That being said, I guess I am between 1066 with the lowest CAS Letency I can find at 3x4GB, or go with the 1600 (I researched and agree 3x4GB is better than 6x2GB).  As intel is against the second, based on what I am reading, I am leaning toward 1066.  If so, can I overclock the 1066 to something higher or is this the max speed?  Help!

  • MSI Big Bang-XPower powers off then powers on to boot to OS

    Not sure if this issue has been addressed on the forum yet. I purchased a new MSI Big Bang-XPower motherboard this past week ,with Intel Core i7-990X as the cpu. I'm using SILVERSTONE SST-ST1200-G Evolution 1200W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD as the power supply and Kingston HyperX 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) for memory. This is in a Lian Li X-1000 chassis.
    I built the system completely and loaded the OS (win7). I noticed during the updates, when the system would need to reboot. The system powers down, then it would power back up, then power would cut off and the system would restart and load right to the OS. I finished the updates and loaded other needed software. This problem continued during the whole time, when ever I needed to reboot. I was even able to load my games and played one. No over clocking needed.
     I started my trouble shooting process,
    flashed the bios from v1.4 to v1.6 - no changed
    changed the bios settings to boot something(can't remember) default - no change
    So I started eliminating anything connected to the motherboard. - no change
    I'm down to the motherboard, cpu, ps and one 4gb stick of memory - no change
    It did not matter if the system was cold or hot, still the same problem. The mb LED would go to A1 every time and almost start running again before it shut down on it's own. Powers back up and boots to the OS.
    I'm at a stand still, on what's causing this problem. I'm sure it's not the memory, because I have pulled this memory from a working system and no problems. Plus, if is compatible with this MSI board. So either it's a bad mb, cpu or ps.  All three of these parts are brand new and I still can return them for exchange.
    Anyone have any ideas or suggestions ?

    Anytime a setting has been changed, driver update reboots etc., it is not uncommon to also experience the double boot behavior. This is normal as the settings are being applied & restarting itself again.
    I've seen this behavior before in the factory with Intel systems. The dual boot behavior usually was a component failure. Which I suspected and turned out to be my problem with this MSI MB. I tried disabling EuP 2013 and spread spectrum, which did not fix the problem for me. Contacting MSI tech support on the phone, was irritating and sub-par but I was finally able to RMA the MB through the online request . Since receiving the new MB and installation. No problems with the board and actually have clocked the chit outta of the board. Thanks for your reply and help.

  • Big bang Xpower SATA 1-6 problems and Sound Card wont install.

    My new system came in the mail today and I put it all together only to find out that my Hard Drives and DVD drive would not be recognized from time to time. The BIOS would sometimes not detect the drives and sometimes it would. I finaly was able to get windows 7 installed only to have the compter freez on me. (I belive the freez was due to the drives being dropped, cause I could still move the mouse around but the rest was froze) I also could not get the included sound card to detect, I had it plug in to the spot the manual says to have it and durring my many reboots(due to the drives dissapearing) one time the plug and play wizzard showed that the card was detected but befor I could install the drivers the cpu froze again. I am useing the system now via the 2 SATA 6 ports/ ports 7/8. the computer runs fine on those 2 ports. One of my questions is the are the 2 6gb/s SATA ports controled by a differnt controler then the 3gb's SATA ports? Im just trying to understand why those work and the others dont. What could be damaged on the board that would cause the 3gb/s SATA ports to not function and drop the drives connected to them at random? Also the sound card not detecting could that have some tie in to the SATA problme? The sound card uses PCIE port 1 to funtion but I have no problems runing my video card and its on a PCIE slot. Maybe the sound card is controlled by the same controller used for the SATA ports that are not working??? Let me know what you guys think. I have a replacement board on the way but I would like to know for sure that its not something else causeing my problem. Sorry for the spelling errors/typos, its late and Ive been fighting with this all day.

    I currently have a ticket in with Tech Support concerning two things, one the Quantum Wave card sound crackling like a walk on corn flakes. Also trying to get confirmed if the PCI-E slots E2 thru E7 support anything other than VGA's. Faulty audio controller maybe. Tested Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty Champion & it crackles too. Not so sure W7 64 bit doesn't have something to do with it.

  • XMP for Big Bang Xpower with BIOS 1.6

    So the problem is when setting XMP mode to enabled it causes the BIOS to not recognize all 12GB with it disabled it always recognizes all 12GB of ram...
    This is 6 sticks by 2gb a piece of Patriot Sector5 Viper II PC 17000 Ram.
    In windows I get random BSOD's of mainly memory management errors. CPUZ will detect all 12GB in windows...
    Is there a fix or maybe a new bios going to be released to fix this memory problem?!?!?????

    I got a BSOD today.... this is with default BIOS. no over clock...nada

    I have seen this one before as well... on a side note...
    This is the second motherboard I tried...I also tried with a 980x retail and It would still crash...
    Im thinking its the motherboard and the compatibility with my ram...
    Also the heat on this board is fairly hot I know I dont have fans facing my motherboard because I just keep the side panel off because Im always messing with the stuff inside....
    Another thing to note is memtest86 crashes completely at random parts...usually early...and sometimes it runs all night...
    I tried to see if it only crashes with a certain stick of ram but if it crashes all it needs is a reboot and it might run correctly for a long time....
    Im really at ends to know exactly whats wrong... but I think its this kind of motherboard and ram setup..... Any one in the world use patriot sector 5 2133mhz ram on a big bang xpower???!?!

  • MSI Big Bang xPower II PCI-e 3.0 Problem

    Hey Guys
    I´ve got a big problem with my Big Bang Xpower II Mainboard. Although i´ve got at PCI-e compatible (Gigabybte GTX760 OC) which is placed in PCI-e Slot 1 and PCI-e Gen 3 activated my Board doesn´t activate PCI-e 3. I´ve already tried to install the UEFI on several ways but nothing helped.
    My specs:
    Mainboard: MSI Big Bang xPower II
    CPU: Intel I7 4820k
    VGA: Gigabyte GTX760 OC
    Soundcard: Creative Soundblaster Z
    RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tactical 16GB 1866MHz

  • MSI Big Bang-XPower, Corsair AX1200W and 6-pin motherboard connector

    Hello, I apologize if this has been answered but I didn't seem to find it on the forums. I have the Corsair AX1200 power supply and the MSI Big Bang-XPower motherboard. The board has two ATX 8-pin connectors. I know that the second one is only needed if you are doing serious overcloking. But I assume it's ok to plug both in whether or not I'm overclocking?? I see the AX1200 has two EPS/ATX 8-4 pin connectors so I am fine there.
    My real question is that the mother board also has an ATX 6-pin connector for the graphics card. Firstly, is this needed since the graphics card has it's own power connector (I have the EVGA SuperClocked 015-P3-1582-AR GeForce GTX 580). The card needs a PCI-E 6 pin and an 8 pin connector. I see the AX1200 has six 6+2 pin connectors so I believe I'm fine there.
    But for the motherboard connector, can i use one of the PCE-E 6+2 pin connectors (just 6 pins obviously), or is this not good sine the connector is not labeled as an ATX connector?

    Hi,
     Bumping this as it is the question I have. How does the motherboard access this power from the EPS? It is constantly available to the cpu? Would it not be better to plug in the 2x8 pin EPS anyway as it gives a greater redundancy?
    I am sorry if this is a stupid question but I recently got flamed on a forum for carrying on about connecting the EPS cables up to my Corsair Ax850. The flamers carried on and on about how I would never need to use the EPS unless it was LN2 cooling.
    I cannot see the harm in it but I would like to understand computer power supplies a bit more and how exactly they work. For example why do some vid cards have 6 pin and other 8 pin when it looks as if both plugs just have a 12 volt lead on one row and the other row a ground lead?

    3 x RME Soundcards used but okay
    7 x WD 2TB SATA where 3 are OS Systems and 4 are Storage used but okay
    Be Quiet Dark Power 1200W new
    1 Problem:
    There is absolutely no Firewire available. I tested the onboard connection (which is at the backplate) and i also tested the extension connection with a additional firewire slot. Also it seems that wether Windows nor Linux is recognizing the firewire at all. The strange thing is that i recieved this new board after i send the first one back to my reseller with exactly the same problem!!! I also take a look into the BIOS if there is any option i need to activate but as far as i see there is nothing to set for 1394?
    2 Problem:
    As you can read above i use my GTX680 and all 3 RME Soundcards each with one PCI Slot. But some of the slots are not working fine. If i, for example mount my GTX680 to Slot 1 and want to mount my first RME Souncard to slot 4 (2 and 3 are covered under my GTX680) its not working. If i try it in slot 6 for example, the soundcard works fine.
    BUT:
    The slot 4 is not damaged cause if i set my GTX680 to slot 8 and retry my RME Cards in slot 4 its working...
    Never had that before!
    I connected the 24pin ATX and both 8pin connectors (the 4pin additional connector for the graphics is not used).
    Would be nice if someone guiding me through the dark

    Mmmhmm i dont thought about getting interrupts, MSI is offering the board with that configration/features and if there is one user out who try to use the board near to the fullest it should of course work or not?!

  • MSI Big Bang-XPower quesiton on connectors

    I have the MSI Big Bang-XPower and have a few questions that I couldn't answer by looking in the manual or searching the internet.
    1.  What is the TPM connector/module exactly used for?
    2.  What is the jspI1 connector for?  It's not listed in the manual.
    3.  The JFP1 cnonector has 2 pins for POWER LED and the JFP2 connector has 1 pin labeled POWER LED.  Should the case power LED be hooked to JFP1?  What is the POWER LED on JFP2 for?

     JFP1/JFP2: You would connect power LED to JFP1 if LED doesn't light up connected one way just reverse the wires and it will work, nothing will be damaged no matter which way they are connected. I'm not sure anymore what it's for on JFP2 except that some cases have different plugs for such things.

  • MSI BIG BANG XPOWER II VIDEO Ooutput / BIOS problem

    HELLO
    recently i Bought BBXPII MOBO and I install ALL when i start it up the Mobo starts no issues but the monitor was on stand by ;/
    I read some comments and i see this MOBO don't support my Processor on the original version of the BIOS crap I have I7 4820K ;/
    I bought new chip with the newest Version of the BIOS i swap it with the CHIP Original installed  I Clear the CMOS  and press multi BIOS button then i plug in  my PSU
    NOTHING monitor is still on stand by i check with 3 Video cards all are working with my sec PC no issues
    i don't know what to do that's sec MOBO first one was faulty and after switching it on one of the chips just spark MSI swap it for new one and that one is not working to :(
    any ideas someone know what i do wrong ?
    the Chip i buy with the BIOS can be  faulty to but how i can check it i guess I cant ;/ 
    then how i can flash BIOS when i even cant get the MOBO boot ? and i will not buy older CPU to start the MOBO that will be just insane  and i don't have any one who can barrow me one for 5 min ;/

    Again ME I think its a warning for a lot of you
    Finely MSI contacted me  and i get my RAM nr I spend 40£ to send the motherboard to MSI in Netherland yee i was happy someone will deal with the problem I have and they will update my BIOS to make sure my CPU will be compatible with the Mobo.
    Today I receive my  MOBO back I was really happy i connect all and i get in SHock nothing the same issue no Video output Monitor stays  black just like was before the debug panel is off nothing running
    i check and the serial nr of the MOBO is different what mean its total new Mobo and probably coz i cant get it running its same old BIOS i spend 40£ probably to  swap new Motherboard for New Motherboard but not to fix the issue and the issue was simple i need version of bios 2.3 or higher to make it work with my CPU I7-4820K
    now I don't know what to do the shop where I buy the Mobo dont want to help me and when i ask for my money back they seid its after the 30 days period and i cant get refund i just wasted 284£ all in for nothing a big black garbage what taking only space in my room now  with MSI LOGO ON IT
    In MSI eyes People don't buy new rigs they just upgrade stuff
    it should be like that
    I was should have  old PC with I7-3930K and then i decide to  buy new processor that how MSI Think (Why to buy 3820k or 3930k when u can get 4820 or 4930k for allmost the same price ? )
    but my mistake was i  buy new processor and new Motherboard and cant get it run because in that NEW MOBO is 1.2 Ver of BIOS and without having old CPU u cant update :(
