IChat 4.0.2: Auto accept incoming file transfers?

It is possible to auto-accept files recieved from AIM buddies so I don't have to accept every file?

Try installing Chax.

  • Ichat auto accept for file transfer?  way to combine buddy lists?

    1) on the new leopard ichat, is there an auto-accept mode for file transfers so that anyone on my buddy list can automatically send me files?
    2) i have a google chat and aim accounts running. they run on separate buddy lists. is there a way to combine them to only have one buddy list window?

You can actually. Go to iChat > Preferences > Alerts, select "Incoming File Transfers" from the pull-down menu, check "Run AppleScript", select "Auto Accept.applescript". Your file transfers will be accepted by default

  • Bluetooth not accepting incoming files

recently my bluetooth will not accept incoming files from my lg viewty and says connection is not possible but it will work with my friends macbook, it allows files to be sent from my macbook to my viewty though.
    any ideas whats wrong?

I'm having the same problem. Bluetooth says that everything is fine when I look at the advanced settings except that my phone is not connected. I am able to send files to my phone, but not vice versa. I can browse the folders on my phone, but they are all empty. I have tried shutting both off and restarting and resetting the device connection. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I also think I should mention the fact that the phone did in fact used to work with my macbook before the Leopard update, so I'm almost positive it isn't the phone.

  • Auto accept a file transfer?

I used to set a setting that would allow you to send one file via iChat from one computer to another - and have them automatically accept a file - without having to each time go click accept.
But I can't find that preference now. Anyone know how to do it?
I the computers in our office, I'd like to send files between them from time to time - and have the files automatically be accepted on the "sendee" without someone actually having to run over to it and "accept" the file.
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Larry

    Hi,
Yes iChat does come with several AppleScripts in iChat 4 and 5 that can Auto Accept.
The AppleScript is written in a way that allows for all the options except for Screen Share to be Auto Accepted and it is based on If statements and the Alerts settings which part then runs.
The default scripts are held in Hard Drive/Library/Scripts/iChat and contains the Auto Decline, Auto Accept and the iTunes Remote Control
Chax an iChat Add-On does add several functions.
One of which is to allow Auto Accepts but also allow them to be only from certain Buddies.
One of the other things it does is group different Buddy Lists together (you set the option in the added on Preference pane in iChat Preferences then use the Window menu to turn On an integrated Buddy list and turn Off (hide) the others).
Larger Files do seem to do better if zipped.

  • How can I auto accept file transfers in Messages?

There used to be a setting to enable an auto-accept of file transfers in Messages.app (desktop version). This looks to be gone in Mavericks. I use Messages for work and need the ability to just auto accept files that my team sends me via IM. Thanks.

    Hi,
That is because it is only now linked to the Messages Received option in the section at the top.
The actual Script (Messages app Right click > Show Packages Contents > Contents/Resources/Scripts) still contains the info to Auto Accept any invite.
The new script contains some lines to prevent errors.
You would probably need to extract the bits you needed and run the AppleScript all the time.
i.e. someone has changed the Script for Messages 8 but  has not allowed the same access to the Script by the app for the things it is supposed to do.
If enough people complain or give Feedback hopefully the Alerts pane will come back

I use this page as Messages is built on the iChat Engine.
The page has never been brilliant at keeping up to date (it does not even list iChat 6 for Lion) so put you specs in the free text area.

  • Auto Accept with Screen Sharing with Yosemite Messages App

I take care of many of my family and friend's Macs and I'm really excited that screen sharing with 10.10 Yosemite through iMessage. I'm wondering if anyone know of a way to enrol their Macs into auto-accepting me to control the screen without the need for them to accept it. I know there was a way to do this back in the days of iChat.

    Hi,
In Any Finder window use the Go Menu whilst holding down the ALT key.
Select the Library that appears and the navigate to Application Scripts/com.apple.iChat
Double click the Auto Accept item to open in in the Script Editor (formerly AppleScript Editor)
You will note the Text section at the top is commented out by being between (* and then the text and then *) the stars and parentheses.
Later a single line is also commented out with a # symbol
In iChat the section for Auto Accepting Screen Sharing used to be commentated out  (originally it was not even there)
You might decide to comment out the other lines leaving just the bits you want.  (or Copy the AppleScript and alter the copy).
Then you can go to Messages > Preferences > General Section and select the AppleScript as the Messages Received item.
    NOTE
I have had issue myself with the AppleScripts as they stand  in Yosemite.
I have tried several of those that are Included and some that I have collected from iChat and all return and error messages about timing out at present.
Others have reported the same in various Threads here at the Apple Support Communities.
At present there does not seem to be a work around.

  • IChat File Transfers fail on 10.7.x Server

I started this Post over in the iChat FORUM, and it was suggested I post here too: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3840760
I have an OS X Server 10.6 setup with iChat and it works perfectly.
This Mac is connected directly to the WWW, no firewall.
I have an OS X Server 10.7 setup with iChat and it works perfectly EXCEPT for File Transfers
This Mac is connected directly to the WWW, with a Netgear FVS336Gv2.
I have opened all the correct ports for TCP & UDP and mapped them to my OSX Server 10.7 at 192.168.2.100
I am totally stumped now, why should JUST file transfers do not work?
This iChat OSX Server 10.7 is setup for people on the same server, using the same domain.
File Transfer in iChat WORKS on the internal network OK :-)
File Transfer in iChat DOESN'T WORK on external network :-(
Here is a screenshot of my routers portforwarding...
    http://www.jrpmedia.co.uk/shared/Remote%20Desktop%20Picture.jpg

If you are having intermittent or sporadic file transfer problems.. or experiencing only one way file transfers on a local lan:
    Pick One:
5222 TCP Client authenticates and sends txt messages to the Server on this port.(Apparently TLS if avaialble)
5223 TCP Client authenticates and sends txt messages to the Server on this port.(Legacy Forced SSL)
    Enable these:
16402 UDP ClientA communicates with ClientB directly on this port for video chat. (Apparently SIP)
7777 TCP - Screwy file transfer proxy port.
From what I can tell about file transfers:
    File transfer proxy.
ClientA tells Server to tell ClientB that there is a file waiting to be picked up at ClientA on a "randomly" assigned ClientA port.
ClientB fails to directly connnect to ClientB on this "randomly" chosen port.
ClientA fails then reverts to proxy mode. KEY STEP
ClientA sends the file to the Server on this 7777 tcp port.
Server proxies the file to the ClientB.
Warning: Having too many directly connectable ports between ClientA and ClientB can cause confusing communcation failures for file transfers between iChat/Messages clients. If one of the clients is able to establish partial communication, it will not properly fail then revert to proxy mode.
We don't want to open a crap load of ports for file transfer and therefore prefer to have it transfer files via the server proxy port
Communication flow required to get this to go:
from clientA to server  5222-5223 (pick one), 7777 for auth and file transfer
from clientB to server  5222-5223 (pick one), 7777 for auth and file transfer
from client to client 16402 for video
The above solved our screwy partially working file transfers... hopefully this helps someone.

  • -Auto Accept Files- APPLE?

What is Apple's problem? We need Auto Accept files transfers.
I don't see a problem with this. What is the the concern? All they have to do is set up a security policy. In such a policy a user sets a list of people ONLY in their list for us to auto accept and block anyone NOT in the list from being able to automatically send anything.
For the seriously paranoid, a user could always create a 250meg DMG image, mount it and set as the Location for iChat downloaded files to be saved to.
So here are very simple and easy solutions for every argument i have read.

Does me good to have a rant too but suggest it here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ichat.html
Maybe someone here knows an AppleScript meanwhile:

  • Auto-Accept File Transfer from only one person?

I know about the AppleScript that allows auto-accept of a file transfer in iChat but is there a way to specify which buddies in the list it works with?
For example I just want auto-accept from one person in my buddy list and no one else. Is there a way to specify this?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Chax
This has amongst various features the ability to Set Auto Accepts to specific Buddies.
It adds a Preference Pane to the iChat Preferences and it is set there.

  • IChat Auto Accept Chats?

Can i get iChat to auto accept calls from only me, which ever remote username i am using? i see it auto accepts but only me. i am the only one i nthe buddy list so is that a way?
is it safe that if i dont allow anyone else to join my buddy list then its safe to auto accept as its only me thats calling? Its the screen sharing over iChat i'm interested in so dont want to be allowing random chats to take over my machine...

    HI,
One setting in the Preferences > General section is about the Status Message getting set to Display an Away Status when your "Away"/Inactive from the computer.
iChat uses what is called the Idle time (It makes your Status go Amber when seen by other people)
This happens 10 mins after the last Keyboard or mouse/Trackpad entry/movement.
It does help to set this so It does not change the status.
Next go to System Preferences > Energy Saver (Second row) and set the Computer Not to Sleep  (You can Sleep the Display)

  • IChat won't accept file transfers? Missing Plug-in

My iChat recently stopped accepting automatic file tansfers. Instead of a file, a "Missing Plug-In" icon pops up.
    How do I fix this?

    Hi,
    Reinstall iChat
There is no realistic way of grabbing an individual component.
IF you are using Time Machine to do your backups and are certain when the app was working properly you could try Restoring it from the Backup.
The real issue as you will see reading the Reinstall info is that some of the iChat functions are held in support files and apps. Hence the suggestion to Reinstall.(Start with the App itself (Easy Way))

  • Ichat won't accept or send file transfers/freezes

I am running OS X 10.7.5 on my computer here at work, the same as everyone else here.  We all use ichat, and we often use file transfers.  For the past year or so, if I try to accept a file transfer, ichat freezes.  Recently (within the past 2 weeks), even sending images (which used to be fine) causes ichat to freeze, and the image isn't sent.  Occasionally it works, but usually not.  Larger files never send.
When I go to Window>File Transfers, loading this windows also causes iChat to freeze, and I have to restart.  If I restart after doing this, ichat refuses to load, immediately freezing (because it is trying to load that file transfer window), and I end up having to delete the com.apple.iChat.plist file from my preferences in order to get ichat to open at all.
I have googled this issue a lot but have never found a solution.  Please help!

    Hi,
You List Lion (OS X 10.7.x) so that mean iChat 6.
Which service are you using ?
Bonjour, AIM or Jabber to do this ?
The AIM account, if you have one, will login to the server on port 443.
However to send Pics-in-Chats or Files then it changes to using port 5190.
It would be unusual for one computer on the LAN network to be blocked for this port.
It is possible to block it on a Mac.
In the Finder use the Go Menu > Go to Folder and type /etc as the name of the folder.
This will open the etc folder (which is in Hard Drive Name/Private and is normally hidden)
Navigate to the Hosts files and Open With TextEdit.
It should read like this if unaltered
It would normally be used to block Servers (IP addresses) rather than specific Ports
If it is the Bonjour account try deleting the com.apple.iChat.Subnet.plist  (it is in the same folder as the com.apple.ichat.plist one is).

  • IChat AV Auto Accept text messages causes app crash

I'm not sure if anyone is experiencing this but I just started using iChat after years of a hiatus. I noticed that there is an applescript for auto-accepting new text IM messages, a welcomed option.
However, ever since I turned it on, iChat crashes almost every time a new chat is started. Has anyway experienced this and, if so, are there any resolutions other than disabling it?
One thing to note is that I am running the Chax iChat add-on to integrate my AIM and GChat lists into one.
I'm running on a thunderbolt 15" MBP and OS 10.6.7.
    TIA!
    Brian

    Hi,
So the Specs did not get changed :-)
    Which version of Chax ?
IF you used the .dmg for the Leopard version  you may have a problem.
In Console (Applications/Utilities) is it managing to save a Crash log for iChat ?
You have to open the reveal triangles

  • Auto accept script error

Any idea why ichat 5 gives me an error on the auto accept script every time I run it ? I want to leave the auto accept on permanently but its not letting me.

Click on the App in Applications.
Do a Get Info from the File Menu of the Finder (or the keystrokes listed)
If you have a Core 2 Duo Processor it will offer the option so start in 32 Bit mode.
