IChat 4.0.2 preferences "Server Settings"

Anyone know what they should read??? What the basic settings should read???

The default settings for an AIM or .Mac account should be to access login.oscar.aol.com on port 5190 without using SSL or a proxy.

It was working fine till yesterday, suddenly it stopped. I have 3 email accounts configured here, 2 are on exchange servers and one yahoo. Connection verification works and shows all servers as green.
    Any inputs?

I had 3 accounts, 2 ms exchange accounts and 1 yahoo. After removal of yahoo, everything is back to normal.

  • AIM Server Settings "Use SSL" option not staying checked

In order to login to AIM on my network, I need to use SSL (not sure of the reason, but SSL works). But whenever I check "Use SSL" in the AIM account "Server Settings" panel, I find that it unchecks itself after a day. At night, I go home, and use a different Wi-Fi network with my MacBook Pro, and I'm not sure if changing the network has anything to do with it, but when I come into work the next morning, "Use SSL" is unchecked in the iChat Preferences.
Do anyone know what's going on here? I'd like to configure AIM to always use SSL but it doesn't seem to be sticking.

This seems to be an issue when sitting behind a Wi-Fi hotspot with a click-through landing page (where HTTP connections are redirected to an intermediary page). SSL isn't maintained after the redirect, and iChat seems to reset this setting after failing to connect via SSL and failing.

  • Ichat cannot cannot to gmail server

Hi there - my AIM account is working but I keep trying to log onto my google talk account and it immediately signs me off and says that the server was unexpectedly lost. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
Work through these 4 items one at a time.
Go to iChat menu > Preferences and your Google Name.
In the account Info tab deselect "Use this Account" to Log out.
In the Server Settings tab change the port to 443 (you can only do this when Logged out).
    Log back In again.
If not stable try it without the SSL Login.
If this does not Improve things try it without the bottom Check Box Checked.
Lastly if those do not work then try the Server Name of gmail.com instead of talk.google.com (gmail.com is used for Google account names that are not associated with Email Accounts but have turned On Talk in their Account Settings on the Google web pages)
I must admit that Google does not seem very stable at my end either at the moment.
Currently in the pic I use port 443 but am currently trying 5223 (rest as pic).
I have had one drop out since.

  • IChat keeps telling me my server connection was lost

iChat keeps telling me my server connection was lost but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I have used iChat for years with no problem and I checked everything with my connection and it is obviously fine if I can write this message.

    Hi Kimberly,
If this has been when you set up your Google ID in iChat then make sure you have spelt your ID EXACTLY as it appears when you log in to the Google Wb Mail page.
In Mail you can set it up to Retrieve your Google Mail.
It seems to be less fussy here about whether you use  the @gmail.com ending or the @googlemail.com one but in iChat it is Important.
In iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts in iChat 4 and 5 you can click the Add Button at the Bottom of the list and the Add pane allows you to Chose GoogleTalk.
This will then add the server name for you (Now Seen in Server Settings tab)
    This should read talk.google.com
IF you added it as a Jabber ID (It is a jabber server after all) then the server will be whatever the ending of your ID is (gmail.com or googlemail.com) as it pulls through the ending of the Name/ID
In iChat 3 there is no Google Talk opeion when adding an account  and you have to Manually change the Server Name in that Server Settings tab.
In all cases it should use SSL and list port 5223
Google will allow Logins on port 443 so you could try changing that.
I have not come across an issue with the Password length with a Google ID
If this is a recent thing then check that you can Login with a Browser to the GoogleMail Web page (i.e Find out if the name and password are correct.)
If it works there go to System Preferences > Security > Firewall
If this is ON then go to the Advanced Button
Make sure Allow Signed Apps is Enabled (Snow Leopard) and that iChat is in the List
In Leopard Allow All or Allow Specific Apps (And iChat in the list) should be ticked then in the Advanced Button Stealth should not be On.
If you allowed iChat through your Router using Port Forwarding then check that the IP In System Preferences > Network > Advanced Button > TCP/IP tab is the same one in the Port Forwarding settings on the router.

  • IChat not connecting to AIM server

for the last 2 days when i open iChat it signs on for 2 seconds, then immediately signs off and says "Lost Connection with AIM"
I've never had this problem before and everything had been working fine. why is this happening and how do i fix it?

    Hi
Have you tried logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190
Go to IChat > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
    Set the port to 443.
    Log back in again.

  • Can't override DNS Server settings - can only append!

See this thread for a similar question:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3555096
I have also filed this with Apple (Problem ID 5159216). Here is the text of the report (with a few bits removed - not crucial to understanding the report).
If anyone has suggestions/clues to resolve, please advise. Thanks!
    Summary:
This problem concerns AirPort Extreme (802.11n) at revision 7.1. I will summarize with a comparison between AirPort and MacOS X.
MacOS X and Airport Extreme (referred herein as "AE") both permit editing of DNS server settings whether in DHCP or Manual mode.
When MacOS X DNS server settings are set manually by the end-user, the new server IPs are used (good). When AE's DNS server settings are overridden by the end-user, the new server IPs are NOT used (not good)! Rather, the DHCP-supplied DNS server always pre-empts whatever is given in the AE Configuration UI.
    Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Using AirPort Extreme (802.11n) at revision 7.1 and MacOS 10.4.9 on a MacBook Pro (Core 2 Duo). The AE has been previously configured for IPv4 using DHCP and the MacBook is successfully connected and resolving domain names through the AE.
    2. Visit "Apple Menu > Location > Network Settings" and check the AirPort TCP/IP settings. For purposes of this test, make sure the "DNS Servers" field is EMPTY so MacOS X defaults to the AE's DNS settings, then close System Preferences.
    3. Run "AirPort Utility" (the newer version, not "Airport Admin Utility") and configure the AE under test. Pick the "Internet" icon in the toolbar and note the Internet Connection settings.
    4. In this test, Configure IPv4 is set to "DHCP" and the DNS Server(s) field contains two DNS IPs assigned by the Internet Service Provider. In my case that's Cablevision's Optimum Online service. You may or may not see IP addresses here, but in my case they are visible.
    5. As the DNS Server(s) are editable, and they both show ISP-supplied addresses, they can be changed to whatever alternate IPs you wish. For instance, change them to these alternate DNS IPs from OpenDNS.com: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. (You could use any alternate set of IPs but for the purpose of this test use the OpenDNS IPs.) Update the AE and restart.
(For additional reference, http://www.opendns.com/start/airport.php shows instructions for the older AirPort Admin Utility, but the concept is exactly the same.)
    6. Normally you shouldn't have to restart the MacBook Pro since we're just using the AE settings, but go ahead and do that just to be consistent with this test.
    Expected Results:
Now for the moment of truth! We want to verify that we're using the OpenDNS IPs for our DNS Servers. One nice feature OpenDNS has is automagic redirection for certain domain name typos.
Here's an example. Drop to shell (Applications > Utilities > Terminal) and try this command (excluding the $ prompt, natch):
    $ dig craigslist.og
The "og" typo is deliberate. We really want to go to craigslist.org. If you're using the new OpenDNS IPs, you will STILL get an Address (A) record with an IP like so:
    ;; ANSWER SECTION:
    craigslist.og. 0 IN A 208.69.32.130
If you had entered "craigslist.og" in Safari, you would end up at 208.69.32.130 (an OpenDNS server) and then redirected to craigslist.org.
    Actual Results:
Alas, that's not what happens! Instead, you get NO IP address, like so:
    ;; QUESTION SECTION:
    ;craigslist.og. IN A
This means we're not actually using the OpenDNS IPs. What's happening?
To find out, I spoke with the AirPort support group (Case # xxx-xxx-xx). I learned that, despite being allowed to edit and override the IP addresses provided via DHCP, the AE still uses the DHCP-provided DNS server if available.
Again, the user interface suggests that I'm allowed to override the DHCP-provided DNS IPs as shown in the UI. Even though I can do this, the AirPort will still keep note of any DHCP-provided DNS Server IPs and use those first.
True, I can switch to Manual network settings (and then my own DNS Server IPs take effect). Of course this is problematic when the ISP renews my IP address (which it does from time to time).
Another workaround is to use the "DNS Servers" settings noted in step 2 (above). However this is also problematic if I want to keep my network settings simple. It requires a "Home Network" location and an "Office" location. Still not preferable, but it's a workaround.
    Regression:
    n/a
    Notes:
I would like AirPort's DNS settings to be overridden in the same way OS X allows DNS settings to be overridden. The user interfaces suggest this is possible but it is not. It's only possible in the OS X case. Having the same flexibility on the AirPort would be most welcome.

Afraid of the answer...sheesh...you must be a child. This has nothing to do with masquerading anything. The issue being discussed here is that people want to manually assign a dns server address via the new AEBS, while maintaining DHCP for IP address assignments through their ISP. For example, I would like to have opendns.com take care of all dns addressing at the router level, even though I have "Configure IPv4" set to "Using DHCP". If you do not understand why one would want to use something like opendns.com, please visit their website and enlighten yourself. The fact that the dns server address fields are editable when set to "Using DHCP" leads one to believe that you can manually assign a dns server in this configuration; however, under firmware 7.1.1, you still cannot. The previous iteration of the airport hardware can do it, as can nearly any router you pull off the shelf. In addition, this is something that can easily be done at the individual-computer level in OS X; however, many people would prefer to administer their network at the router level. That is the issue being discussed here. Either you can't read or you are purposely derailing the thread.

  • CFBuilder 3 loses second server settings on cfbuilder exit/restart

I have two servers which I have connected to the cfbuilder. First one is localhost, which works okay, even debugger.
Second is vmware XP image, which i can connect to the builder via new add server setup window.
    settings:
    Name:Vmware XP
    type: Other
    hostname:192.168.21.2
    port: 80
    All other settings are blank.
At the mappings I have mapped my localpath to the server remotepath:
    Local path:C:\Projects\Coldfusion\Project
    Remote path: \\vmware-host\Shared Folders\Project.
After I do that, the server comes to the server list, shows running. CFBuilder can connect to rds server. But I cannot start debug yet, so I go to preferences and add the wmvare xp server to the project, and see that the rds configuration is ok (no password is needed, so I clear the login imfo and the prompt for password checkbox)
After that debug works, and all is well.
Then after I shutdown cfbuilder, and restart it, ONLY the localhost server is found! the vmware xp is nowhere, it has just vanished from the server list. And of course debugger won't work because the project has no server attached (even though project properties show that the vmware xp is selected, it seems only cfbuilder has not saved the server configuration). And I have to do this again to make debug work. this is VERY frustrating! Is there some hidden option which does not save the server setting or something? is there a way to export server settings from the builder?
If anyone couldhepl, that would be amazing!

This issue was fixed in the new ColdFusion Builder 3 installer (released in December with the updated ColdFusion 11 installers, but not advertised to anyone).  You'll have to download the new installer, uninstall CFBuilder, and then reinstall using the new installer.
Why they couldn't roll it out as an update through the Eclipse updater (like they have previous CFBuilder 3 updates) is beyond me.

  • How to change the preference color settings ?

    Hi.
I use a script for converting images but I can not change the color preferences in Photoshop to set a default if the RGB images of departure does not. How to change the color settings ?
    Pls help.
    Thx.

    This tech note:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305634
says that to change your outgoing server settings you
go to Settings/Mail, and then "in the Outgoing Mail
Server (SMTP) Host Name" you make your changes. There
is no such field, not even under Advanced. How do you
change the outgoing server and its settings, without
having to set up a whole new email account?

  • .mac server settings on iPhone

I am unable to see or change the outgoing mail server in my .mac account on the iPhone. The support page indicates that you should be able to access this on the iPhone but it is not there. Is any one else having this issue?
    12" PowerBook   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

If you are accessing your .Mac account as a .Mac type account or IMAP account with Mail on your Mac, delete your .Mac account on the iPhone and recreate it selecting Other instead of .Mac after selecting Add Account.
Choose IMAP as the account type filling in all required information.
This will provide for the SMTP server settings being available after re-creating the account.
For the SMTP server use: smtp.mac.com:587
In addition, deselect your .Mac account to be kept synchronized with your iPhone via the iPhone preferences with iTunes so the recreated account will not be changed back to as it was before.

  • TB v. 24.0: Changed ISP's; ~ new email in Server Settings & Outgoing Server & all Address Books and Contacts; TB still showing old email ID for Fwd & Rply

TB v. 24.0, Win 7 Pro. Changed ISP's. I use Outlook 2007; wife uses TB, same box. Changed TB username & e-mail address in Server Settings & Outgoing Server & set as Default. Changed e-mail address in all address books and Contact lists. Now TB still showing old e-mail address in <From> when Reply or Forward. This is confusing recipients, who have been sending their replies off to a now-nonexistent account. Checked Windows Contacts - empty. Checked my Outlook 2007 - all Contacts changed appropriately. How do I kill that old e-mail address in TB when it isn't even listed any more - except when we try to Reply or Forward?

When you got the new email address and changed ISP's, you needed to create a new mail account for that new existing email address.
When a mail account is created there are many preferences setup to be able to manage and run that mail account. Trying to track down and modify all of those within the either the config editor or prefs.js is not only time consuming, but you could easily cause further problems if any error is made.
So I suggest you fix the original account by reentering all the old data. Then create a new mail account for the new exisitng mail address.
    * File > New> Existing mail account.
    or
    * 3bar menu icon > New Message > Existing Mail account.
when you have both mail accounts in your left folder pane, you can choose to move any wanted emails from the older mail account into suitable folders in Local Folders. This will save a copy of emails.
Then you can delete the old account, leaving saved emails in Local Folders and only one new mail account.
    To remove mail account:
    * Tools > Account sEttings
    * select old mail account
    * click on 'Account Actions'
    * select 'Remove Account'
    * click on OK

  • Cannot delete outgoing server settings

Occasionally my outgoing email refuses to send - the message that comes up refers to an outgoing server setting that is in my settings, but not selected or active...obviously why it won't send the email. The correct outgoing server is selected in the preferences panel, but it doesn't make any difference, but sometime after repeated send attempts it works!!?
So I decided I should delete the non-active server setting...and here's the problem, I cannot see how to delete them.
I've seen this as an "answered" query within these discussions, but I think this must be an older system, as it refers to an 'Edit Server' list (I only have 'Server Settings' and then a 'Remove Server' button (see below), which simply doesn't exist on my preferences.
"You can delete the servers in Mail
    Preferences -> Accounts
Pick any account and select the outgoing mail server drop down box.
At the bottom is Edit Server List
Choose the account you want to remove, then click remove server."
So does anyone have any idea how I delete these outgoing server settings?
    Thanks in advance

Ah I see them now at the bottom of they drop-down list!!...I just focussed on the list of server settings (I have about 10). Seems an odd place to have them!
As a 1984 veteran I feel quite foolish now!

  • Apple Mail Client not saving server settings for iCloud?

I am trying to add my iCloud email to the Apple mail client.
As I work through the wizard to setup all the necessary entries inclduing the for the Incoming and outgoing mail settings but when the account is finally created in the
Mail client, the incoming mail server settings are not set and the box they are shown in is not available for editing.
The mail client vs is 6.6
I have tried this several times with the same end result, any help appreciated????

You don't manually add your iCloud email account using Mountain Lion.  Instead, go to System Preferences>iCloud, sign into your iCloud account and check Mail.  This will automatically add the account with the proper settings.

  • TS4002 Correct outgoing Server settings?

I have my @me.com email coming into my Apple Mail client. It's been working fine for a long time. Suddenly, I can't send email. I think something happened to the outgoing mail settings. What should the correct settings be for iCloud mail on my Macbook?  FYI, I'm running OSX 10.7.4

    The correct settings are:
    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
    Port: 587
    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    Password: Your iCloud password
You will find you can't change these. If you check them and find they don't match the above, sign out in System Preferences>iCloud and then sign back in, enabling Mail and any other data types in the checklist there. This should set Mail up properly.
If your server settings match the above then there may be a temporary problem with the server.
