IChat 4 AV Leopard 10.5.1 - G4 933Mhz - No video!

Hello from Sweden!
I have checked the specification from Apple, that single 1-1 videochat should work, but it doesn´t.
iChat 4 - sounds is on!
Skype works -sound and video!
Photo Booth work - video picture is on!
I have sent old files from iChat 3, also .plist files to the basket, reinstalled the system, upgraded to 10.5.1, set QT to 1,5Mbit/s, Firewall is checked (allowed), internet sharing is off
Have I forgot something? Still is the iChat 4 showing (Slow network) and no picture, well I am using broadband, in my home, not connected to any network.
The problems seems to be difficult to solve, so many out their, but no answer...
Do You have any proposal? Buy a new Mac, -not yet!

I have seen several thread with people reporting this on G4/867Mghz computers, both towers and PowerBooks
The suggestion that is reported as working in PowerBoost from Ecamm

IChat w/Snow Leopard - Video Delivery Fails

Full iChat (w/AIM) between Leopard and Windows 7 AIM worked fine - video, audio & text worked both ways. Installed Snow Leopard (SL) Version 10.6.8, and while my MacBook Pro iChat gives & gets text, video & audio to/from the same Win7+AIM computer, this PC does not get the video (but does give & gets audio and text).
Moments later, PC to PC, both with AIM under Win7, does totally work, however.
Are there issues with SL's version of iChat? specifically, between SL's iChat/AIM and AIM's Windows 7 version concerning video?
Could SL be having an issue with my D-Link wireless modem?

iChat 4 is limited to the speed you set in System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming.
If the Automatic is used iChat reads this as 384kbps both up and down.
IF you use the 1.5Mbps T1/Intranet/LAN on then 1.5Mbps Up and down is the limit (See also below).
iChat itself also have a Bandwidth Limit set in iChat Menu > Preferences > Video section
For iChat 4 and earlier this tends to be used to smooth out the variances you may be getting from your ISP.
iChat 5 has No Quicktime Setting.
Technically it can "See" all the Connection speed you have both Up and Down.
Depending on your internet Speed and any other devices sharing the connection you may be many times faster than you were in iChat 4.
Uploads are normally lower than Downloads and this has always been the limiting factor.
However if your Upload exceeds 1.5Mbps by a significant amount you can be sending data to your Buddy faster than they can deal with it.
For iChat to iChat I would normally suggest setting the Bandwidth Limit to 500kbps (More than enough for 4 way Video chats)
As it is AIM I would also try the 200kbps setting (Only good enough for 1-1 chats)
Opening the Connection Doctor (Video Menu) during a Video chat may give you some clues as to how much data yu are sending.
The Bandwidth can be changed during a Live chat and you will see the buffering effect in iChat change the Bit rate slowly to smooth out the video.

I had Leopard on may Mac. I upgraded to Mountain Lion using Snow Leopard. I can't use my video with Mountain Lion. Can I load Snow Leopard on an external hard drive so I can use it with my camera?

First, you cannot do this if you have a Boot Camp partition.
Second: Create a new partition.
1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed. (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss. Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
Third: Install Snow Leopard.
Boot from your Snow Leopard DVD. Follow instructions for installation being sure that before you actually install Snow Leopard you have selected the new partition as your target destination.
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo
appears.
5. Wait for installer to finish loading.

Major issues with ICHAT in Snow Leopard

I upgraded my computer to Snow Leopard just recently. Had issues got them fixed and now have worse issues. I could use my iChat yesterday and now all of a sudden when I try to sign in it says I don't have any accounts set up in iChat. When I try to go set it up and hit the + key to add my account it does not let me. Yesterday when I tried to screen share with my boss. It kept closing iChat and said unexpected error. I'd hit reopen and try it again and iChat would log me out. Now I cannot even get on iChat or setup my account. Please help

Since you set up iChat and possibly the Mac User account you are logged in with have you enabled Parental Controls - either in the Mac User Account or with the same iChat Details in a Test/Second Mac User Account ?

IChat crashes after Leopard Upgrade

I upgraded to Leopard (Upgrade. Not Archive-Install or Fresh) from Tiger, and iChat crashes when I try to open the video Preferences. I am not logged on to any chat service. Here are the steps to reproduce the crash:
1. Open iChat (Auto-Login is disabled on all chat accounts)
2. No need to log-in to any chat service. But that doesn't matter.
3. Open the Preferences->Audio/Video
The Audio/Video windows doesn't even appear. The light on the inbuilt-iSight glows for a second or two and iChat crashes. I have tried deleting all the "iChat" Preferences files in ~/Library/Preferences. But that doesn't help. Please find the crash log below.
Any hints as to what the problem is ?

IChat AV 4 - Leopard - Where is the side-by-side iChat theater?

It's shown in the Leopard preview (http://images.apple.com/macosx/features/ichat.html) under "Showing off without showing up".
But, how do you start this mode? I can share files, keynotes, iPhoto, etc. But, I can't find how to show the video feed side-by-side.
Any ideas?

This appears to work only when both clients are running iChat AV 4. Trying to share a file with my girlfriend's MacBook running Tiger, it simply sent the shared file in place of my video stream.
Testing this on my Power Mac G5 and my MacBook Pro, both of which are on Leopard, starting sharing resulted in the nifty iChat Theater view shown in your link. And it is displayed in that side-by-side view on both parties' iChat sessions, not just the receiving end.
To start an iChat Theater session, you can either share a file or photo (or album, which runs as a slideshow) using the File menu, or drag a file onto your video session window and drop it on the "Share with iChat Theater" zone that appears.

Cannot text chat with iChat since installing Leopard.

Since installing leopard, I have been unable to use iChat. I can boot up the application, and see my buddy list as normal. But when I double click on a buddy's icon to start a text chat, I get a completely blank chat box. (i.e. I don't see the buddy's name and icon at the top of my box.) if I type in the text box below and hit enter, I get a prompt that says "one or more buddies have to be invited to the chat." If I right click on a buddy's name, and click on "invite to chat", then ichat crashes and I get the message copied below.
I have tried reinstalling ichat from my OS 10 upgrade disk, then reinstalling the 10.5.4 combo update - no help. I tried blowing away my preferences for ichat in system preferences then re-entering my data - no help. Also, this problem happens on both my AOL and mac.com profiles, with both AOL and mac buddies.
The exception type, as you'll see below is EXCBADACCESS (SIGSEGV) and the exception code is KERNINVALIDADDRESS at 0x00000000636f6e94. Please help!

Is iChat AV in Leopard useless?

The 'Set up an iChat Account' button is unusable since Apple has replaced that service with iCloud. And you need an iChat account to use iChat AV, so is iChat AV impossible to use in Leopard?

As you have found out iCloud issued @me.com names do not work in iChat version 5 or earlier (this is due to iChat 6 and Messages beta doing a second Login to me.com so that AIM can "See" the passwords.
The @mac.com Registration page is still available.
This will need an email to complete the registration.
The two are effectively hard linked at this point and you will not be able to use that email to create another Apple ID.
You cannot create a second Apple ID with an existing one either (so you can't use the @me.com iCloud email)
Keep the password to 16 characters or less as this is the limit for the AIM servers (Apple list this as the iChat Account page but don't tell you this fact)
Despite looking like an email it is not a working email.
It is an Apple ID and iChat valid name only.

IChat 5 (snow leopard) Video

Everything seems to work fine on my end, however the person I am videoing with says my video is frozen. He can hear me, but the video of me does not work. This happened once I installed mac os x 10.6. and our videos/audio work fine through skype - ichat is the only problem. Also, whenever I invite him to a video chat through ichat, it tells me the user doesn't support multi-person ichat (even though that's not what we're doing). I am using aim through ichat and he is using aim on windows. This used to work fine before the snow leopard update.
Ichat also closes unexpectedly a lot more now.

Did they change their settings ?

IChat AV on Leopard now working

thanks to Ralph's message and bhagemann's reply, iChat AV/Leopard is now working for me.
I'm going away for a while and I have been trying to get iChat AV working reliably so that I can video chat with my wife while I'm away, but every attempt to connect to/from outside resulted in the same dreaded 'no response' error. Skype works but iChat AV is so much better.
I did indeed at one time have Sharing/Internet Sharing turned on and shared via Network/Airport, but I don't generally need Airport on my iMac and had therefore deactivated it. consequently, the Sharing/Internet Sharing option was not checked and I wasn't aware that my iMac still had two IP numbers assigned to it. after reading bhagemann's reply, I reactivated the Airport network service, unchecked Internet Sharing, deactivated the Airport network service again and tried 'chatting' with [email protected] again. no more problems, at least for now ;–)

That (9C010) is the bit that says you have done the Time Machine and Airport Update and this takes your OS beyond (Above ?) the actual point that the 10.5.2 Update gets you to.
This is why you have the message about the OS not being suitable.
You have a folder in /Library (The one you can see when you open the Hard Drive) that has a folder called Receipts.
With some downloads you can fool the OS into thinking it had not done it by removing the item's .pkg
I do not think this will work in this case as it is not the only Check Software Update or the Installer makes on the OS and Packages.
I understand from EZ Jim that if you do have the Time Capsule it come with an Install Disk that Must be used before you can set it up fully. I don't have one and was unaware of this until yesterday late my time.
The only sure way I know to do this in your position is to do an Archive and Install from you Base Install Disks of Leopard and then do the 10.5.2 Combo before doing the Time Machine and Airport Update.
It may be possible to popen the 10.5.2 Combo with Pacifist and use that to Install it but I have not Tested this.

iChat 4's tabs make me conversations too public. I liked iChat 3 with Chax better. Any way to get it on Leopard?

The Leopard version http://www.ksuther.com/chax/ does not seem to list Tabbed Chats although it does put all the Buddy lists into one.
As to the real question of whether iChat will work in Leopard ? It will not.

Cannot connect to iChat Server from Leopard Client

I just installed Leopard Server fresh and did all of the software updates. I let Directory Utility configure my Leopard client machine to setup all of the accounts. When I try to connect with iChat, I get the following prompt:
*Please type your Kerberos password for patrick@LKDC:SHA1.48E73...0D0.*
I enter my password on the server, and I then get:
*Kerberos Login Failed:*
Cannot resolve network address for KDC in requested realm.
My co-worker has a similar problem, but it instead asks him to type in the Kerberos password for "[email protected]". It also fails for him.
Keep in mind this is a freshly-installed Leopard Server set for basic usage. I'm literally shocked that it doesn't *just work*. I'm even more shocked that nothing I seem to try actually has any result on fixing it.
What am I doing wrong? (Or rather, what is Leopard Server doing wrong, since all I did was follow the instructions to install this thing.)

Yes, the problem turned out to be that when I initially installed Leopard, the IP address I was using didn't have a reverse DNS entry. Leopard should really provide a WARNING when this is the case, as it causes so many problems across the board, and I've read so many other users having other problems because their DNS was not set up properly. Since there is no easy way to remedy this once it's installed, it's even more pertinent that an administrator be notified at the time of installation that this is the case. I fixed my DNS issue and reinstalled Leopard Server, and that solved the problem. (And yes, I will file a bug report with Apple.)

IChat "Whiteboarding" in Leopard, the future of Apple's tech support?

As many have seen in the Keynote on monday, iChat in 10.5 Leopard will include a "whiteboard" feature that lets users display pictures, video, and even their live desktop in iChat. Presumably to do desktop sharing you won't need a built-in iSight as it would just take the feed from your monitor and display it in iChat.
That begs the question, will AppleCare and the whole Genius Bar system be "iChat-ized?" I forsee that instead of calling AppleCare, you open iChat and join a queue for a tech support person to open an Audio chat and a desktop sharing session. This would make it much easier for them to troubleshoot your problems, giving you a hands-on visceral way to see what they're doing.
Thoughts on this, anyone?

iChat answers are avaible to a selected few Applecare services based on what you actually bought.
I am not sure exactly which ones though.

Green Tint to incoming video in iChat 5 (Snow Leopard 10.6.2)

I recently upgraded my wife's Mac Mini (32bit Core Solo Intel) to SL, and now all of the incoming video during an iChat video session is tinted green. Has anyone else had this problem and have a solution? Any info is much appreciated.

Hi,
Do people say it looks different if you wave you hands in front of your face, between you and the camera ?
Also does holding a white piece of paper for several seconds in front to the camera make the pic change ?
I have a Buddy who can be quite animated with his hands.
On days with he relies on Daylight on it's own his Video can seem to change colour as his hands get nearer the camera.
I think the Internal iSight is supposed to auto correct White Balance and that we are talking about an issue with this.

ISight, Cam Twist, Leopard and websites that you can do video chat in?

Hi,
Okay, I have family that can't use AIM or iChat, so we use Stickam for video chat. Before I upgraded to Leopard, I could use Cam Twist to entertain the kids (nieces & nephews & my own kids) with the effects. Since I upgraded to Leopard, Cam Twist isn't working the same way. About 70-80% of the cam view is pink in color (& there are no effects turned on). I made sure I have the most up to date flash player and just down loaded Leopard 10.5.1 in hopes Cam Twist would work, it doesn't. I have made sure I am using the most up to date Cam Twist as well. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I have made sure the settings in Stickam are set to Cam Twist also. I feel silly being so old & worrying about video chat and all, but the cousins (the kids) and I really enjoy the effects. It gives us more to chat about. If I just use iSight (built in) and set Stickam for the USB Cam it works great, even my DV Cam (via firewire) works get if set within Stickam settings, but Cam Twist isn't working at all. If any one can help, that would be wonderful.

No mention of Leopard! Therefore, not compatible?
