Ichat 5.0 computer sleep ichat offline

Sine in Leopard, I would put ichat on away. It would stay away, now that I have Snow Leopard. My ichat would be away then when I come back from waking it it would be offline! Why is this? I know they made some changes with ichat, Do I have to apply away message? Right now I have it to be told what to do "change or not to change"
Anyone noticed this as well?

Hi,
The other poster has said that there is an option to set what iChat does when you "Come back to the Computer" (it is about when the computer has Slept)
On faster processor it has always been an issue at times as App wake faster than the computer re-establishes the Network Connection (Connections are cut during Sleep)
As the OS is smaller and therefore faster the apps wake faster than the Network.
You may not have seen this in Leopard.
It also seems that in the iChat General Preferences the item in the top Section under the menu Bar icon option about "At User Login, set my Status to Available" has a bearing, regarding the Wake as a fresh Login - which it is.

  • IChat Wake Mac from Sleep

I have just started using iChat, and frequently missing invites becouse my iBook has fallen asleep. How can i have iChat wake the computer and play an Alert whenever i am invited to a text chat, audio chat and video chat?
Thanks for any help on this.

How can i have iChat wake the computer ...You cannot. As a security measure, your Mac disconnects from the internet when it sleeps.
If you want to stay on line, set your display sleep for the desired time, but set you System Preferences... > Energy Saver > Sleep options to "Never" for the computer.
Also check the "Options" and "Schedule" settings to be sure you do not leave unexpected actions enabled.
Set iChat > Preferences... > Alerts for the default actions you desire for your entire buddy list. You can also set individual alerts for some buddies by setting iChat > Buddies > Get Info > Show: "Actions" choices bar "Events" for each buddy that you want to treat in a special way.

  • IChat window always showing I'm Offline.

My status is always showing Offine, even after I change it. My buddies can see my status change and contact me, but I'm unable to contact them because my iChat window always thinks I'm offline and won't show me my buddie list.
I have deleted all the iChat preferences....no luck. Not sure what else to try.

    Ok,
When you Add a Buddy it is normal to enter in the First Name, Last Name details.
This adds them to the Address Book.
In Leopard and Snow Leopard iChat did not tell you that there was an Error if you tried to Add someone that was already in the Address Book  (It just did not add them to the Buddy List, Offline or otherwise)
You don't seem to be add new people which makes me think you do not have Permissions to Write (Save) to the Address Book.
This may also be true of the /plist that holds the Status Settings
I would go to your Home Folder and highlight the Library Folder there.
Then use the File Menu > Get Info (Or the Keystrokes) to see the Info panel.
The Last section is on Permissions and Ownership
It should list your account name and Me in Brackets (me)
Then that entry should have Read and Write Access.
If that Folder is OK check the Preferences Folder inside that.

  • IChat Freezes My Computer

It first started when someone would transfer me something, like a picture or song, any file. Once I accepted it, my whole computer would slow down to the point where it would just freeze. Now it happens whenever I open iChat. My computer works great otherwise, but if I open iChat everything slows to a freeze and if I do manage to slowly close it down, my computer stays slow, until it recovers. I don't know what to do! Thanks in advance for your help!

For the first time when I started iChat it didn't freeze right away, but once I tried to accept a file transfer, it started slowing my computer down again. This is what I got from the log on the time the file transfer occured:

  • Mail goes offline when computer sleeps.... can I prevent this

I searched and couldn't seem to find an answer for this. When my wife checks her mail in the morning after the computer sleepsshe gets the triangle with the exclamation point.
She will click go online and then she can check the mail.
It seems like when the computer sleeps it loses the internet connection and mail does not realize it has recconected when the computer is waked.
Doesn't do it with mine when but I use wireless.
Not sure if it is a router issue or not, and if so any idea how to fin it.
    Thank you
    Mike

Try this. Upon waking the computer from sleep. Wait about 20 seconds before doing any network activity like Mail or Safari. Then try it.
When a computer goes to sleep, to the rest of the world, it is the same as being turned off. It's Internet connection is disconnected. It takes a few seconds to re-establish the connection.

  • Ichat 3.0.9 to ichat 5.0.3 connection problems

    Hi, situation as follows:
Mac A : iMac G4 17" (domed body) running OS 10.4.11 and iChat 3.0.9 with external iSight camera
    Mac B : iMac G5 20" running 10.6.6 and iChat 5.0.3
When Mac A tries to call Mac B, a window pops up showing the cameras view of the user in front of Mac A, with an accompanying message of waiting for Mac B user to respond but unfortunately Mac B never receives the ring.
When Mac B tries to call Mac A, a window pops up showing the cameras view of the user in front of Mac B, with an accompanying message of waiting for Mac A user to respond. In this case Mac A gets the ringing and answers the call and 'Accepts'. Unfortunately after a few moments Mac A gets a 'connection error' message, ending with the choice of whether to send the problem to Apple or not. Mac A video picture freezes. At Mac B, camera continues to show Mac B user, with the message of 'waiting for Mac A user to respond'.
    Can anyone give some advice.
    Robert
FYI. I brought the two mac beside each other and used Bonjour and everything work fine.

    Hi,
Did you try both computers at the same Location with their AIM or Jabber names ?
(I presume that at the moment that they are at different locations)
From this page add the six Screen Names shown in Table 1 to the AIM (Valid) Buddy Lists on Both computers.
Can both computers contact those Auto Responders ?
(I have no Auto Responders for a Jabber Buddy List to use)
    On Mac A
Go to System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab and set the speed to 1.5Mbps (T1/Intranet/LAN) as the Automatic and LAN/Intranet options are not read by iChat properly.
    Restart iChat on this computer.
(This allows it to make the best use of the Internet connection)
In System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall do this:-
http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/iChatPicsFolder/6%20iChat%20Ports/slides/3iChat_Ports_Firewall-SelectTAB.html (Use the red arrows above the pics to proceed to the next pic)
They may also need to open or allow ports in their Router
Post back with Make and Model plus Version number for more specific info.
Basically use UPnP if you/they have it or open all those ports listed in the last pic from the link using Port Forwarding.
    On Mac B
If the Firewall Is ON they go to the Advanced Button and Enable Allow Signed apps and Add ichat to the list
(The firewall is In System Preferences > Security > Firewall (It moved in 10.5.x)
There is no Quicktime setting for this computer
In iChat > Preferences > Video section set the Bandwidth Limit to 500kbps (iChat does not need to be restarted)
iChat 5 "Sees" the whole of the Internet Speed you/they have.
This means you can send much more data more quickly to Slower Buddies.
There is evidence that iChat 4.x cannot always buffer the Video fast enough when it come from iChat 5 on a fast connection. (There also seems to be some correlation with this in getting connected in the first place where iChat 5 thinks the other end has not responded (possibly "quick enough"). )
Check the router at this end as well.
The Log that pops up on Machine A and B can be expanded (old ones are stored in Home Folder/Library/Logs/iChatConnectionErrors )
I could do with seeing these (At least down to the Line that reads "Binary Images for iChat" - the bits below that tell us nothing at this stage)
The type of Error code listed near the top paragraph can give clues as to what the issue is:-
    Error 22 Speed issue somewhere.
Error 7 and 10 (No Data for 10 Secs tends to be a Router issue - Excessive features getting in the way)
Error 8 is a bit of a catch all but can be about ports in the router.
There are other codes as well but these are the most common.
NOTE Error 7 and 10 can have a different message to the one I quoted.
POrts for ichat 4 and 5
    ||iChat Ports||TCP||UDP||
    |AIM|5190|5190|
    |A/V|none|5678, 16393-16402|
    |Bonjour|5298|5297, 5298, 5353|
    |Jabber|5220,5222, 5223|none|
Note this is the iChat 4 and 5 Range
Add port 5060 UDP for iChat 2 and 3 and extend the group of 10 to 16384-16403 (20 ports)
iChat 4 and 5 also uses an undeclared Random port to do the Screen Sharing part and works if you can and do use UPnP (Or Port Mapping Protocol) to open ports in your routing device.
    Hope this helps.

  • Waking from computer sleep

Since FX takes some time to load, I would like to start my demonstration in my office then put my portable into Sleep mode (this is computer sleep, not Java thread sleep) so that it is instantly available at the customer's premises.
However, all I get initially is a black square where my display should be. Eventually I can get it back but it hasn,t been working properly during sleep.
Any ideas on how I protect the program during sleep and awaken it when the computer runs again. I am running it as a desktop application.
    Thanks
    ABG

Not likely it is apps checking for updates. I have a bunch doing that and they don't wake from sleep.
More likely hardware connection, USB device or some such.

Check if third party USB devices or cards are causing problems.

I read someone said you can tap on "other" when selecting which wifi you connect to and then entering the exact wifi name of the network you wish to join and the password and then joining that network allowed the password to be saved.  Also with iOS 6 the minimum length of the password needs to be 8 characters.  Maybe you password on your router is less than 8 characters long

  • Airport connection dropping off when computer sleeps

Starting with the latest 10.4.8 update my airport connection drops when the computer goes to sleep. No amount of configuring will get the computer to recognize my airport. Turning off the power to the airport, waiting, and re-connecting does no good. The only way to get wireless is to restart. Once restarted the airport connection is re-established without any configuration and continues to be fine until the computer goes to sleep. Hard wiring ethernet works at all times without problems.

    thanks,
i read the doc, looked in the system prefs where my re-connect was set to "preferred" and there was only one wpa network listed. i deleted it from the list then re-added per the apple document. will see if this works.
in my own mind i don't think this is the solution but am keeping an open mind. the weird thing about my situation is that after the computer sleeps there are no available networks under the airport menu. i know in fact there are 4-6 in my area. after restarting the 4-6, including mine, networks are all there and my network has been connected to.

  • USB has no power when computer sleeps

When my computer goes into sleep mode, time machine cannot connect to my external HD because apparently the usb port goes to sleep along with the computer. Same thing happens when i plug my iphone to charge. I plug in my iphone, shows that it's charging, I put the computer to sleep, it stops charging instantly. I have two imac computers, same thing happens on both machines. Is there anyway to keep the power to the usb ports while the computer sleeps?

Hi there, Welcome to the Apple Support Forums. What I say is just my own opinion. We all work in many different ways.
I can't see any benefit to keeping a USB port fired up to keep a hard drive running, when the computer and Time Machine are both asleep. If nothing is happening or changing on your computer then there's not much point of keeping a Time Machine drive running. In addition, I wouldn't consider using a USB powered drive for something important like a backup system. USB powered devices can be pretty flakey.
Meanwhile, as far as a charger for an iPhone, this year at MacWorld SF, I bought a Griffin Simplifi dock. It also doubles as a memory card reader, and has two USB ports for thumb drives or whatever. It's got it's own AC power adapter so I don't worry about the computer going to sleep or even shutting it down.
Amazon has the Simplify device for $42 w/free shipping. I leave my iPhone in the dock whenever I'm around the office. I think I paid around $70 at the show and don't regret it a bit.
Apple also provided you with a small square AC power adapter for a USB cable to connect to charge your iPhone (at least they did with mine). But I really like having the dock sitting just in front of my Mac.

  • TS2972 Apple tv sleeps when computer sleeps. What to do

The TV disconnects from Apple TV sharing when computer sleeps. What to do?

George, Your trouble sounds just like mine. You can read my thread here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4204561?start=0&tstart=0, but in summary:
Itunes and the Apple TV exchange messages about once per minute. If any wifi interference stops the message-and-reply, iTunes closes the home sharing connection.  Other services are usually fine.
I solved my problems by wiring the ATV and computer. (Wiring either alone didn't work.)  Home Sharing is now rock solid and works exactly as advertised. No drop-outs during play. The iTunes library is always available on ATV - I never have to restart home sharing or iTunes or the ATV. If a computer or ATV restarts, they pair up automatically.
Not everyone can wire, I know. But it worked for me. Test it if you can.
    John

  • HT3819 homesharing stops when computer sleeps. I already checked the "wake for access". What is wrong?

Homesharing stops when the computer sleeps. Already checked the " wake for access" and already changed the computer sleep to never.

I have tried everything I could to fix this, but some things require actually being on Firefox, and since I cannot get on, I cannot click on the tabs to do it. I have even totally uninstalled firefox, and that has not fixed this. I still get the same message that firefox is running and I need to close it or restart (which I have also tried dozens of times). I have removed things like Java, and that has not helped either. If I cannot even get on line in firefox, how can I fix this. I am not crazy about using internet explorer, but right now, it is my only option. I even tried to start in safe mode, and the same message box pops up!

  • PPPoE Still Disconnects When Computer Sleeps

With 10.9.2 and again with 10.9.3, PPPoE disconnects when computer sleeps.  This didn't happen with OS 8.x, OS 9.x, OS X 10.2, 10.8.x, 10.9.0, or 10.9.1.  System Preferences>Energy Saver is set for display and computer to sleep after about 12 minutes.  I'd rather not set computer to never sleep.  Please advise and correct for 10.9.4.  Thank you.

I have the same issue. Also after wake-up connecting to PPPoE is a challenge, because it establishes only after 5-7 attemps (Authentication failed). I guess 10.9.3 update causes this.

  • Dropping signal when computer sleeps

I am having trouble with the wireless network dropping off every time the computer sleeps. Each time my iMac sleeps from inactivity when I start it up again I get a disconnect message and have to go through diagnostics to get the airport extreme to run again and then everything is fine.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Eric

I have the same problem with my MacBook Pro. Even using signals in my Preferred Networks list after it sleeps it drops the connection and a re-start is the only way around the problem.
    Any advice appreciated.
