IChat Agent Has Quit

I am the de facto go-to guy for my office, and one of my co-worker's is getting the much-discussed "iChat agent has unexpectedly quit" error all of a sudden. It came out of nowhere — it was working at 9 a.m., then not an hour later. He's is on OS 10.5.8. What should I do?

HI,
I am not sure where that has been "much discussed"
As this is Leopard he will have easy access to ~/Library/Preferences
Find com.apple.iChatAgent.plist and drag it to the Trash (that one and that one alone)
Restart iChat if Open.
If that does not seem to bring any Stability, download and Install the COMBO version of OS X 10.5.8 update

IChat Agent frequently quits

Hello All,
I have developed a problem in the last week that i can't seem to track down. Ralph and I spend some time trouble shooting it the other night and it seem to be find for the next 12 hours. the problem has returned and getting more frequent.
Symptoms: with iChat running in the background or if in use, the iChat agent suddently quits. i may or may not be able to get right back on after it happens.
Troubleshooting: i have repaired permssions, run all maintance scripts, rebuild desktop, in Terminal, used /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat -errorLogLevel 7 and see what logs in. quit ichat first, open terminal, run command line, restart ichat. deleted: apple.com.ichat.aim.plist. this worked both times as a short term fix.

Disconnected from iChat Agent

I was having an intermittent problem with the iChat Agent unexpectedly quitting. I deleted the ichat agent plist file and now I cannot log in to my AIM account at all with iChat. I persistently get the "Disconnected from iChat Agent" error.
I downloaded Adium and set it up and I can log in using this instant messaging client. Any ideas on how I can get iChat to work so that I can use the screensharing capabilities?

I would delete the com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist one now.
If that does not sort it I would download the Combo version of the OS update and install it over the top.

The iChat Agent process has unexpectedly quit, disconnecting you from all..

My iChat has been doing this all the time! I can't stay connected for more than an hour without iChat quitting on me and giving me this message:
*"Disconnected from iChat Agent. The iChat Agent process has unexpectedly quit, disconnecting you from all services. Logging in again will restart it."*
I have tried these steps to fix the problem with no success.
Step 1 - Repaired Permissions
Step 2 - Rebooted off of the DVD or CD and Repaired Disk
Step 3 - Went to /Users/user_name/Library/Preferences folder and deleted these files:
com.apple.iChat.plist
com.apple.iChat.Aim.plist
com.apple.iChat.Jabber.plist
com.apple.iChat.SubNet.plist
com.apple.iChatAgent.plist
Step 4 - Reinstalled the **** thing.
My iChat works 100%, I have no issues connecting, video conferencing, screen sharing and etc. But every hour or so the connection drops and gives me that **** message!!! *"Disconnected from iChat Agent. The iChat Agent process has unexpectedly quit, disconnecting you from all services. Logging in again will restart it."* So have to keep reconnecting all the time! Sometimes I'm in a middle of a conference and the freackn' thing just drops!!!! (Even tho sometimes I do get that error but my video connection still works offline.... not sure how....)
I have been in several forums and no one was able to fix this issue! Can some official Apple guy help with this!!! I mean, ****!! What an annoying bug!! I really on iChat to communicate with co-workers and etc as I work remotely. If Adium had video support I wouldn't even wast my time to get this thing working, but iChat is still my best option(when the **** thing works)

And no its not my router and ISP and this happens with any connection(Coffee shops, public libraries, WiFi Hot Spots....)

I had the same problem a month or two ago. I spent a few hours on the phone with an Apple tech and after the fourth time calling back was transferred to a Product Specialist (the highest level of Apple technicians). The specialist recommended creating a test account on my Mac and trying to launch iChat to see if the problem was system-wide or a user based issue. When that didn't work I was out of options. What it unfortunately came down to was having to do an Archive and Install (which didn't work) and after hours of backing up did an Erase and Install. After all the smoke cleared and my computer was back to normal, iChat was back and fully functional as before.
IF YOU ARE USING TIME MACHINE:
*DO NOT* copy all of your files back onto your Mac. Only copy your documents and music, preferences and nothing else. Chances are you backed up the problem without even knowing it and you would just end up back where you started.
I did notice that my .Mac account still works in iChat but AIM does not (which just happens to be what I use to communicate with the rest of the world).

IChat agent quitting and logging me out of everything

This has been happening sporadically, but when I use iChat to log into my AIM and gChat accounts, I am sometimes logged out because of iChat agent dying and disconnecting. I am forced to log in again, and there are no problems again until it decides to disconnect again. It's not a huge problem that makes it inoperable, but if I'm having an important conversation and I'm suddenly logged out, it can get a bit more than annoying. I tried deleting the preferences for iChat Agent already, and it still does this. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

In Console (Applications/Utilities) are there any messages about it Quitting ?
If you use the Icon to reveal the Logs and the triangles to reveal more in ~/Library/Logs is there a Crash Reporter Log that lists iChatAgent ?
If the .plist did not sort it it maybe that iChatAgent needs to be Reinstalled.
As this is posted in 10.5.x you could try the COMBO Download first (You will need it anyway so don't through it away)

You swill see at the bottom it says about doing the Combo on the Reinstall (whether just the app or the support folders as well)

My stumble upon has quit working. Keeps saying It will not work with the browser version I have witch is Mozilla 12.0

All of the sudden my stumble upon has quit working and I'm not sure why. When I try to stumble it says my browser version needs to be updated yet I have done nothing to change anything to make this problem happen. What do I need to do and how do I fix this?

Ichat idvd iphoto quit unexpectedly

when i try to open ichat idvd or iphoto im told that the application has quit unexpectedly. i don't know what to do... please help if you can.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Start with the troubleshooting basics:
1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

IChat agent

For a few weeks now I can't figure out why I keep getting these slowdowns in my G5. I finally looked in the activity monitor and found that the iChat agent was not responding. (By the way during this iChat works just fine) after force quiting iChat and re-opening the program it seems to clear and the ichat agent works o.k. with smooth preformance of my G5.
Some times for a few days, sometimes for a few hours, sometimes for only a few minutes. then I would find iChat agent not responding again.
what's going wrong? is there a fix?
I have repaired the disk and permissions, ran Disk warrior,Preferential Treatment,Cache Out X, and OnyX.
Anybody have a clue want going on?

I use a windows 7 pro and have no problem like that from bridge cc when I select a thumbnail then use menu Tools>Photoshop>Image Processor.. I see Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 start up then I see the Image processor dialog and that one file is selected in the bridge I the complete the dialog and click run. The image files are created. Photoshop remains open after the image files are create with no open documents. I need to click on the bridge in the task bar to bring bridge back into focus.

Just tested something and it worked.
If I put the headphones all the way in, the mac recognizes it as a digital output.
But if i don't put it all the way in, it recognizes it as headphones and works perfectly.
It's probably this crappy headphones.
If anyone has the same problem, try this out.

Start by emptying the InDesign Recovery folder.

Every time I open Firefox or open a page in a new tab, I get the error message that a script on this page is not responding or has quit working. This has only happened since I upgraded to 5.0.

Even when I start firefox I have to sit here and wait for it to tell me a script on this page is not responding or has quit working. Once that happens which takes a while, I can say stop script and it moves on. I've always liked using firefox and have never had a problem in the past, however if I can't get this particular problem fixed, and I've tried many ways to do this, I may have to change to another browser. I would hope that you could find out why this is happening to me before I make that decision. One other thing, I am using the dreaded Vista OS.

If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

Have been using firefox for months; now has quit working properly with the websites I use everyday. What happened?

It has quit working with "liverez" which is my web based reservation program. The place I login is https://reservations.liverez.com/login.asp?LogOff=True&Return=Res but once I login, the site does not work as it did before. The website that corresponds with this doesn't look right now either. I can't even use my msn email account with firefox now. I have had to go back to using internet explorer. I have not even tried other sites with foxfire at this time. The other sites I use for work. Things that aren't working are that I can't click on things I need to click on, drop downs aren't showing up, pictures are absent, etc. It is all working fine on internet explorer and used to work on firefox until last night.

Thanks to some hints in several strings, I went back to the Control Panel in XP, clicked on Sounds and Devices, clicked on Audio, then changed the default device to the Realtek HD Audio output I have on my computer. Now I can hear You Tube video sound and other Internet audio fine, at least for now. I will come back if it stops again. Thanks to all who posted.

When I open my iTunes store it starts loading and then it says it has quit unexpectcly. Please help!!!
