  • IChat and .Mac account and AIM and .Mac account...

    Hello.
Well I'm using iChat or Adium with my .Mac account, for text chat only (sometimes for video or audio but it's not my wish for this).
So, at work, we have an internal application that is based I think on AIM, and I can log myself with a AIM account (I created one for tests). But when I put my .mac email with @mac.com it's not working, and without it is. But it seems it's not the same account. Do we have two accounts ?
How to log in with AIM on Windows to use my .Mac account, so my friends can text me on the PC too ?? Is that possible ?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Sebastien,
    This Sametime ?
I have not heard of this and that web site does not seem to indicate it is an AIM client even though the info you posted says that it.
I would look at the Support on that site and see if it is any help.
There is a link from the Apple .mac list to the AIM name list but this might not be accessible to a third party app like this.
Most of the other third party apps insist you have an AIM name first whether it is for a Mac (Proteus, AdiumX)or a PC (Trillian).
AIM Express is a Java app that will work on PC or Mac.
This page says that it is AIM or AOL names only.

  • IChat and .mac account

Is it possible (and if so, how) to share a single .mac account for iChat? I'm wanting to video chat with my family while on the road with the laptop and my attempts to create account names and what not appears to only make a mess.

    Nope.
Whichever Screen name you use you need two separates ones.
    One for each end.
Trial @mac names will work after the 60 days as will Lapsed accounts.
Family Pack ones are a bit different (they tend not to work with sub email accounts)
AIM names are of course also Valid.
Ryan has links to both at the top of this page http://www.siriusaddict.com/ichat.html although the .mac one no longer works.
The Trial Sign Up page seems to be here
There is a link also to the Sign Up page on the right in the blurb here

  • HT4597 I can no longer access my mac mail in the Mail program - only on icloud. I would like to have both my aol account and mac account in one place like it was. Anything I can do?

iCloud's mail server settings are different from MobileMe's. Strictly speaking Lion 10.7.2 is required for iCloud, and on that Mail is set up automatically.
Snow Leopard cannot access most of iCloud's facilities, however you can set Mail up manually to access your email. The method is described here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmail.html
The situation with iCloud and Snow Leopard is described in detail here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudSL.html
iCloud cannot access your AOL account (the MobileMe facility for checking external POP accounts does not exist in iCloud) - you will have to do this in the Mail application in the usual way. You could of course set up forwarding from your AOL account to iCloud (assuming they provide this facility) but you will not be able to reply using iCloud's SMTP server with anything other than the iCloud address as the 'From' address.

  • IChat with .mac account and intermittent connection failure

Recently using my .mac login with iChat has been a little troublesome. Sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesn't.
This morning there's no connection. Seems to be dead.
An AIM account can log in, and my older (now unused) .mac login will also connect, but my current login simply cannot connect.
Is it possible that this is another issue at AOL where accounts were deleted or misplaced?
Anyone else having a similar issue?

I see a couple things going on...
A.) The accounts were definitely not deleted. I've been able to log in since posting this. But there IS something going in. Many people are posting new topics about the "timed out" error with .mac accounts right now. True, the specifics seems to shift from post to post, but everyone's set up is different (usually) and that stands to reason. However, the common thread in all the posts is the "timed out" error.
B.) iChat tried to log back in when waking from sleep. I time out because my wireless network hasn't connected yet. So the reconnection is slower than the attempt to log back in.
This produces the "timed out" error.
C.) The port suggestion seems to make a lot of sense. Indeed if everyone is using the same port (and aren't there millions of us?) then using a variety of ports, or rather, any other port should help provided the server is up and running, and our accounts are working (and we're connected to the inter-web and everything else.)
D.) There seems to be an issue with errors in iChat AV, or perhaps with Mac OS X 10.4.X or possibly only the macbook pro where once an error is returned "timed out" or "could not connect" for whatever reason a certain operation (unknown) or amount of time (unknown) must occur before connection can take place.
I'd love to see all these problems resolved.

  • IChat says ".mac account not reachable"

Hi to everyone, first post here in this forum for me.
I have a problem with my .mac account, but only when trying to log into iChat. I've used it last time yesterday evening, turned off the pc, today switched on again, and after a couple of minutes iChat (that starts automatically at login) tells me that "iChat cannot communicate with the ".Mac" account. The server does not respond"
The account is working properly, i can use it on itunes, on mobileme, on this forum and also i am able to connect with AIM on iPhone.
What can I do to fix? internet is working properly and there is no nat on the router and everything can access the network (iPhone, Airport Express).
    Thanks a lot!!!
    Roberto.

If this is a @mac.com name or a @me.com name from MobileMe make sure the PAssword is not more than 16 Characters.
Apple lets you set more but this does not work with the AIM Servers.
The Original Poster said their name worked on an iPhone (not just Apple Sites) where you have not said you tested the same name that is an issue on your Mac on the PC (you said you tested AOL Messenger and did not confirm it was the same Screen Name)

  • Enable encrypted iChats without .Mac account

I saw a few postings of individuals asking how to encrypt their iChat messages without the use of a .Mac account.
I ran accross the following that maybe helpful: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060215084902839

    Hi,
I see the item they talk about Off the Record is actually listed as early and incomplete on thier site.
Scroll down for the OS X Tiger version
    Also needs 10.4.2 at least.
One of the responders to the MacOSXHints thread seems to say that all it requires is a Certificate and hints that AIM already does one.
The Off the Record thing requires you get a Certificate from them and go through their Proxy. And that the people you are talking to also download the version for their OS.
Does anybody know anything about AIM issued Certificates ?

  • IChat without .Mac account

    Hi all,
How can I use iChat with a freind who does not have a .Mac account? Is it possible to have voice/video chats?
    Thanks,
    Ziv

Or you can use your Google Mail address, if you have one. So, yeah, it's that simple. If you have Google Mail, you can use iChat for free, and have video chats. Check out this article which explains how to set it up:

  • Ichat and imac accounts - help!

I've had my MacBook 2 years now and set up accounts originally with the free trail of .mac - I never used the email because I had other accounts and didn't want one linked specifically to my laptop, but now I want to ichat with apple friends in UK and can't use it because my password and name isn't being accepted. Is this because the .mac free trail ran out? Do I have to pay before I can use ichat and email?? Can't I use these functions without paying $$? I have high speed with Telus.

Create a free AIM account and use a service such as Gmail or that provided by your ISP for email.

  • .Me and .Mac accounts on one iPhone

    Hi:
I feel almost stupid asking this question: I have recently gotten MobileMe to work on my iPhone, which I got in September '08. I also have a MacBook. On my iPhone I now have the .Me account as the default account, and I still have the .Mac account. So when I get a new email it goes to both accounts, which doubles the amount of space. That's not a problem since I have the 16GB model. The question really comes down to: can I delete the .Mac account completely without also deleting anything in my .Me account? They look to be identical in mailboxes and email contained therein. I haven't tried deleting that account for fear I would lose something valuable. If anyone know the answer, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Medren

Since all messages remain on the server with an IMAP account, deleting one of the accounts will not affect messages that remain on the server.
I've had a .Mac account for a long time, so I've kept using my .Mac email address after the change to MobileMe. If someone sent an email to my @me address, it would be delivered to the Inbox mailbox for my .Mac address or account so I would receive it with my .Mac account or address, and vice-versa. If you are accessing the accounts as separate accounts, deleting one of the accounts will not delete any messages in server stored mailboxes.
Are all messages sent to your .Mac address or account in the Inbox mailbox for your @Me address or account, and are all messages sent to your @me address or account in the Inbox mailbox for your .Mac address or account?
If so, deleting one of the accounts will not lose any messages.

  • Mail and .mac account

    Hi
Can someone tell me if I am right in thinking that isync will keep mail on my PBP and mail on my .mac account both updated each time I use either of them? Any tips to keep this happening smoothly?
    Thank you

    It's not quite like that:
A .Mac account is Apple's name for an IMAP account. With these account types, all items that you don't deliberately remove from the server In Box will stay there. (You can choose for all your sent mail you be added to the server Sent box by selecting 'Store sent messages on the server" in the Mailbox Behaviours tab. There's also an option for Drafts, Junk and Trash.)
When your mail data is stored on the server, you can view it from your laptop or online or from any other computer that has your username and password. (If you think of these being windows on the server mailboxes it might be clearer.)
Occasionally, you will have to weed-out messages by moving them off the server and on to your local computer (at which point that's the only place that you can see them), simply because of the amount of space allocated for storage - but you will get a warning to do so.
dot Mac syncing will sync details of your mail accounts between computers, together with associated rules if you choose these options. However, it does not copy any actual emails.
I have received, sent and drafts stored on the server, so I can pack-up at work go home and have all in both places.
Ask away if you have any further questions.

  • Mail app and .mac account

I'm using Mail 2.1.1 and Tiger (10.4.9). I recently set up a .mac account and set up Mail to receive the mail for .mac. To date, Mail has not been able to get my .mac mail. However, at the suggestion of .mac support, I created a new user on my computer, set up Mail to receive my .mac mail, and that worked. According to .mac support, that means the problem is in Mail. What do I need to do?
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    William,
Since this is a .mac type account, removing the account in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information (with the minus sign button) has no risk of losing messages in an account folder. I would either do that, or the following:
Quit Mail, and in the Finder open Home/Library and locate the Mail folder. Control-click over the Mail folder, and choose Duplicate -- then drag the resulting copy to the Desktop for temporary backup. Next, open Home/Library/Preferences and find the com.apple.mail.plist file and drag it to the desktop.
Relaunch Mail, which will open as though new, and when prompted to import anything DECLINE. Instead, re-enter your account info, and Mail will re-discover the account folders for your accounts, and all should be well.
Ask any needed questions, and keep us posted.

  • Mobile.me AND .mac-account on two machines - sync iphone.

    Hi,
i have a .mac account for work (where i purchased music i needed for work) and a private mobile.me account, which i use for buying my private music. Whenever i connect the iphone to one on these two machines it gets the account id from that computer.
The problem now is this. I purchased some apps from the appstore for account A and some apps for account B. So far no problem, i can use all these apps on my iphone. BUT: Occasionally the app store finds some updates for installed apps, which i would like to load. But if the app was bought using account A i cannot update this app, when the iphone thinks it is synced to account B - and vice versa. There is an error message saying, you have to buy the original software first to get the update. Thats what i did, but with the wrong account.
So my question: Can i use the iphone with two accounts? I payed for the apps, so there is no reason i cannot updtae them, when i´m allowed to use them. Or, the option i would NOT like to go: Can i merge these two accounts?
    Thanks
    Rainer

Authorize both computers for one iTunes account. You should only be syncing with one iTunes account at a time, by using 2 you risk having everything wiped each time you sync with another computer with a different account. You can setup several mobileme accounts, but you should only use one iTunes account for purchases on the iPhone to avoid problems like this.

  • I can't log in iChat with .mac account

since i changed my .mac password, ichat (i used million times before) ask me for log in AOL and then don't accept my log.
i tried to use old password with the .mac ID and the new pass with the same ID but this does'nt work.
then i tried to cancel my isight account and redo with my actual .Mac id and pass.
but after the log in procedure, AOL block me again with a new login request.
    Someone can help me?
iMac G5, Ibook G4, G5 dual 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   mac user since IICx

I fonud the answer in an other discussion: it was because of the password lenght: AOL accept only 16 character max password.
    My pass was 20...

  • IChat and .mac email aliases

I'm trying to set up an iChat account using one of my .mac email aliases, but iChat doesn't seem to want to recognize it. Can email aliases be used?

    Hi Peterpants
