IChat and USB Video Class devices - where to file feature requests?

Hi,
i'm using a Logitech 9000 Pro for video chat (iChat, Skype), and found the "generic" support of MacOS X somewhat lacking. While i'm happy with the out-of-the-box support, both running it in Parallels Windows XP and peeking around with Apple's USB Prober application revealed that the camera is capable of lots more features (USB Prober even lists them all) that the video input of MacOS X simply ignores. i.e. you can only use 320x240 (10.4) or 640x480 (10.5), 10 fps, OR (in Quicktime Pro) 1600x1200, 5 fps.
So my question is:
Is a feature request for an additional pop-up menu (like "use video stream 640x480 @ 30 fps" in the camera selector) best filed for iChat, or Quicktime, or maybe "OS X" (since it seems to be an operating system driver)?

Yes to all of those.
Sometimes settings made in other places are held between apps.
Take a Look at the Quicktime Preferences for the Player if you have Quicktime Pro or even iMovie

  • USB Video Class Driver on Solaris 10 and Sun Ray

    Hello,
Is it posible to use the USB Video Class Driver (usbvc) on Solaris 10 and Sun Ray?
    How can I do that?
    Thank you very much.

It's not possible. The Video Class requires isochronous operation on USB and Sun Ray does not support isochronous mode.
Even if Sun Ray did support isochronous mode, the libusb library (which is what third-party applications use to interact with USB devices attached to Sun Ray) does not support isochronous transfers. The hard part is the Sun Ray itself. When that gets resolved it probably won't be very hard to add isoc support into libusb.

to get the built-in isight to work on the mac, one chooses usb video class video.

    (1) Built-in iSight is ALWAYS a UVC device and external iSight is ALWAYS an IIDC device.
I do not see how any software, whether OS or browser, could change those facts.
However, I do not use Linux. Because you are concerned about using Flash for Linux,
it seems to me you need to find the correct version of Flash for the version of Linux you use:
      http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
When you have the correct version of Flash, you can check Flash Help for specifics:

    (2) Unless you get the specific answer you need here or in your Linux system documentation,
also check the documentation or support pages from the supplier of the Linux you use.
    (3) Alternatively, you can search or post your question in a discussions forum dedicated
    to your version of Linux.

  • USB Video Class not showing up

    Hey All,
I am trying to use some online websites that make use of the built-in iSight (Facebook, Chatroulette, etc), and my camera is not working. I know that in the flash player window that pops up you are supposed to select USB Video Class rather than built-in iSight, however the option for USB Video Class has disappeared. I have searched for USB Video Class driver but I have not been able to find one. Can anyone out there help me?
    Thank you.

Consider any of these ideas that are relevant to your system:
    (1) For those who have installed Google plugins, user OysterOyster reports that uninstalling them restores proper iSight function with Flash and Mac OS X 10.6.5.
If Google is your problem, the GoogleVoiceAndVideoUninstaller.app should be in your hard drive's Library/Application Support/Google/ folder. (not your *Home > Library* folder)
Several users confirm that using the Google uninstaller works to restore Flash video functions.
Some other users, including those who do not use the Google plugins, have found other remedies.
    (2) User joew13 reports that installing the 64-bit Flash plug-in beta for Mac OS X (DMG, 8.7 MB) fixed Flash sites for him.
This link allows download of the 64-bit plugin beta from an official Adobe page:

or, to download the beta directly, click this link--> http://tinyurl.com/2frejs4
Several other users have confirmed success after the beta update.
    (3) User imagerle downgraded Flash to version 10,0,45,2 to restore Flash video.
If this older version is not available on a backup or an old install disk, it can be downloaded from Adobe's Archived Flash Players page:

  • Do I have the USB Video Class (UVC) built-in driver on my Mac OS X 10.4?

I read on the Macam website that the Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 is one of the webcams that will work with the USB Video Class (UVC) built-in driver found in Mac OS X 10.4.3 and later versions. I have a Mac OS X 10.4.11. I cant find the USB Video Class (UVC) built-in driver on my iMac, nor can I get the Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 to work on it.(the downloadable macam software doesn't work with the webcam either.)
Do I have the USB Video Class (UVC) built-in driver on my Mac OS X 10.4.11?,and, if so, how do I get it to work with the webcam?

i have a usb video capture device and i wanted to know if there was a program that lets you watch your vhs movies with it on your computer

    Not totally following you here.
You can get an adapter that allows you to plug, say, your VCR into the computer to copy video from a VHS to a DVD, and have it edited on the computer, is that what you are looking for?

    Hello,
I will help you moving this thread into windows phone forum.
For you question, we can use DeviceInformaiton class to find all webcams and then get the front or back webcam.
     Code looks like the following.
    var devices = await Windows.Devices.Enumeration.DeviceInformation.FindAllAsync(Windows.Devices.Enumeration.DeviceClass.VideoCapture);
    Windows.Devices.Enumeration.DeviceInformation backCameraDeviceInformation =
    devices.FirstOrDefault(x => x.EnclosureLocation != null &&
    x.EnclosureLocation.Panel == Windows.Devices.Enumeration.Panel.Back);
You can see more about camera programming in this code sample. Get it from

  • Quickcam for Notebooks pro (new) and USB Video

    Hi,
I have a new Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks pro camera, that supports
the USB Video standard (as far as I know, at least the cameras id is mentioned
on the USB Video for Linux driver at http://linux-uvc.berlios.de/ )
As I read on the Apple USB Mailinglist, Tiger supports this standard. But unfortunately my camera isn't recognized as camera, just as generic USB device with the following ids:
    Produkt-ID: 0x08c3
    Hersteller-ID: 0x046d
Does someone know, how this camera can be made working or has someone
a USB Video standard conforming camera running on tiger 10.4.5?
I know, there are two USB Webcam drivers, but they both don't support USB Video, as this support is built in with tiger, and neither one of them is working for me.
    Regards,
    Michael.

I'd blame Apple for the lack of webcam support on Mac OS X. The software Apple makes that takes advantage of webcams (such as iChat) is only coded to use Firewire cameras. I assume they do this since they don't want any competitors to their iSight ($149).
The manufacturers that have made USB webcams with Mac OS X drivers (such as http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2204,CONTENTID=710 5) probably haven't had much success selling them since iChat and other Apple programs won't be able to use them even with the drivers.
If Apple allowed non-Firewire cameras to work with their programs, I think that would give manufacturers more incentive to make their webcam products work with Mac OS X. I really wish Apple would change their stance on this since lack of hardware support is one of the major disadvantages of Mac OS X over Windows. There is even a petition here for this: http://www.petitiononline.com/iChatUSB/petition.html

  • Opinions on low cost USB video capture devices for FMLE?

I have already tried a few such devices.  I would at least like to achieve reasonable SD at 720 X 480.  HD would be a plus, but not necessary.  My camera has HDMI, SDI, and Component and composit out.  I have already tried a couple of capture devices, and the results were as follows.
SIIG USB 2.0 Video Capture Device - JU-AV0012-S1
Pretty clear as to why this was so cheap.  It claims full NTSC support, but that is only on the input.  Output is 320 X 240 only.
DIAMOND USB 2.0 HD Game Console Video Capture Device GC500 USB 2.0 Interface
Again, this unit claims "HD" but that is only on the input.  Output is 640 x 480.  The image quality was terrible with the supplied software, or with Adobe FMLE.  Noisy, and well below full NTSC quality.  Even when fed with the component out of a Sony NX5.  Unacceptable.  Even for the bargain price at Frys.
Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition
Seems I bought a dud.  I went back and forth with Hauppauge support, and never could get this to be detected by FMLE, or the included software.  On doing a search online for the error message I received, I discovered many similar trouble reports on various forums.  I bought this one at a discounted price.  Perhaps this is the reason why.
The notebook I have is a Windows unit, with no expresscard slot, or 1394 input (unfortunately).  I did look briefly at the Blackmagic Intesity Shuttle, but it needs USB 3.0.
Curious to hear of any sucess with USB capture and FMLE, and with a device under (hopefully well under?)$200.

I've been streaming with the ION Video2PC capture device...it works flawlessly with no problem. The machine I've been testing it on can only pump out 480p or 540p at the most. But, I'm sure if I used it on a faster machine I would get way better results. You can find them used under $30 bucks online and unlike most cheap capture/input devices, you can access the video and audio in FMLE. Just thought, I'd share they info.

  • USB MIDI class-device oddities with more than 16 ports

    Hi,
just playing around with programming an USB device stack for the AT91SAM7 MCUs. Because i do a lot in music electronics, i tried to implement a MIDI device (Audio/MIDISTREAMING) according to the specs:
    http://www.usb.org/developers/devclass_docs/midi10.pdf
And, just for fun, i wanted to try if it works if i use 2 output endpoints to get (theoretically) 32 physical MIDI OUT connectors. According to the specs, this should be possible (page 9):
"The USB-MIDI Converter typically contains one or more MIDI IN and/or MIDI OUT endpoints."
"Each MIDI Endpoint in a USB-MIDI converter can be connected to up to 16 Embedded MIDI Jacks."
So. I can use "more" IN and/or OUT endpoints. I did so. I have 1 IN endpoint, 2 OUT endpoints. And on each endpoint, i have 16 embedded jacks connected to the external jacks (which in fact are currently just simulated
Now what is the reason why i write this?
On reception of data, everything works fine so far, but i didn't check with more than 1 endpoint so far. On transmission, i can address the first 16 jacks on the first endpoint without any problems, but the other 16 jacks (which are on the second endpoint) are routed to the first endpoint by OSX.
I can see this in the display i have on the MCU, and i also can see that everything goes to the other endpoint if i just exchange the endpoint numbers in the configuration descriptors. So i think my code on the MCU does the right things, but OSX doesn't seem to be able to handle more than one output endpoint.
This also might apply to the input endpoints, i don't know.
Did anyone observe similar problems? I don't talk about such things like those Emagic interfaces, they are not implemented according to the standard class device specs, they have some more features and need a proprietary implementation.
Not that this would be too important, but i think it might be a bug worth fixing.
    ...Michael

Either i'm asking in the wrong forum or you are posting on the wrong threads
I will virtualize the situation for you, the rest please stay with the initial post, as meanwhile, all the important details are lost.
Yes, this is a box with 32 MIDI-Out connectors and 16 MIDI-In connectors besides the USB connector. I can see this interface with exactly this configuration in Audio-MIDI-Setup (now this is real, not virtual , and if i configure any software to output on Port 1-16 (not channel!), the signal appears on Port 1-16, but when i configure Port 25, it appears on Port 9. So Instead of Ports 17-32, OSX sends the data to Ports 1-16 again.

  • RGB, Composite, Firewire and S-video capture device for FCP

    Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone could suggest some of the better capture cards that support RGB composite, firewire and s-video inputs that will work with FCP.
The set up is on Mac Pro and the device needs to be as reliable and noise free as possible as it will be used for the capturing of video for evidence in court cases.
Any help is this area would be very grateful,
    Regards,
    Martin.

    Hello,
I have no experience with the AJA product line but I know that many of the folks here have used them. They make a good line of cards that will do what you are asking for. They don't have firewire on the cards, but the computer you are using should have one I would assume.
Since you said 'S-Video' my thoughts are that you are only using SD? If that is going to be the case for a long time then look at this card:
    http://www.aja.com/products/kona/kona-lse-ls.php
It has composite and S-Video inputs. IF there is the chance that you are going to be doing HD and IF it is still tape based, then look at one of the higher models. But again, that is if you are going to be upgrading to HD sometime soon.
    Hope this helps.

The USB Mass Storage Device is something you have connected to the PC.

If my suggestion to let windows update find the Intel Management Engine driver, didn't work, see if this driver from Intel works.  It also has the hardware ID for that device in the setup information file.
