IChat AV, 10.4.9 Update and USB Camera

According to the following article:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304821
the 10.4.9 update includes , "... iChat support for USB Video Class webcams."
I have a mac mini, with an Intel Core Duo and I want to use iChat AV. iSights are not available, unless I want to spend a fortune on eBay. I am not interested in downloading iChatUSB from ecamm. I beleive that the cameras have to support USB Video Class. Info here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USBvideo_deviceclass
Please let me (us) know what cameras you have tried and found to have worked well for iChat AV without installing third party software. Right now I am leaning towards the Logitech Quickcam Fusion. Any thoughts everyone?
Thanks,
Greg

What model iPod do you have? If yo have a 2G iPod. many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier.

  • Ichat support in 10.4.10 for USB cameras?

With apple not selling isight cameras anymore i was told that you couldnt use a USB based Camera with ichat Ilife etc. However I was in the Apple store yesterday and one of the
Genius said he thought that was fixed in 10.4.10?? can anyone help me with this. i want to use an Apple display with a Mac Pro and i need a good camera to attach via USB.

    Hello alangsam
A few apps, including iMovie, require a Firewire DV signal from any external webcam. No external USB cam works with such apps.
If you need to use your external webcam with iMovie (or other apps that demand Firewire input), use a Firewire webcam or your compatible DV camcorder rather than a USB cam.
A 10.4.10-equipped Mac can use UVC (the latest USB specification) webcams for all other apps. If you buy USB, be sure to get a camera that supports the UVC standard. Older, non-UVC USB cams might work if appropriate driver software is available, but the UVC cams are supported by the latest Mac OS without additional software. See the system requirements for the application software you want to use for exact camera and, if applicable, additional software requirements.
For more info, see this post about Webcams other than iSight or search iSight Discussions for "UVC" (without the quotation marks.)

  • Isight and USB Camera

    Hi,
I have an Imac with built in camera, I'm trying to connect a second camera Creative USB, and seems it is no recognized. Anyone has an idea how I can configure the new camera ?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, goolu
The answer to your question depends on which Creative USB webcam and application you are trying to use.
If your particular model supports the current UVC standard, it should work without additional software.
If your Creative USB webcam is one of the non-UVC models in this list of Known Working Configurations, you will need to add iUSBCam software and, if indicated, the macam driver to use the cam with iChat. If you want to use it for other than iChat, the specified driver alone may do.
iMovie requires a Firewire DV signal from external cameras, so you cannot use your Creative USB cam with iMovie.
If you need more help that the above, see the Creative Customer Support web page or their "Contact Us" link for help on how to use their camera with your system directly from the camera's supplier.

  • Did Lightroom software update and now camera won't tether

I have been using my Canon 5D Mark II tethered to Lightroom 4 successfully for quite some time. Last week I downloaded the software update and now the camera will not tether. I have tried two camera bodies and neither work. Both cameras will tether with Lightroom on a different computer (that didn't get the update). So, it's the software. Help!

    Hi
try a safe boot - holding down the Shift key until it starts up -
Simply performing the Safe Boot may resolve this issue.
Shut down your Mac. If necessary, hold your Mac's power button for several seconds to force it to power down.
Start your Mac, then immediately hold the Shift key. This performs a Safe Boot. Advanced tip: If you want to see the status of a Safe Boot as it progresses, you can hold Shift-Command-V during start up (instead of just Shift).
Note: A Safe Boot takes longer than a typical start up because it includes a disk check and other operations.
If your Mac starts up as expected, immediately try restarting.
If the Safe Boot does not work, or the restart after a successful Safe Boot does not work, go to the next section.

  • 10.4.7 update and USB problems

I have been experiencing problems with my USB devices (other than my Apple mouse and keyboard) since updating to 10.4.7. I have a card reader, a Palm device, a USB midi keyboard and a digital camera dock connected to a USB hub connected to the back of my Studio Display.
Randomly they start to beep like they do when the system boots or they are connected or reconnected without anything or anyone touching them. Sometimes they just beep, other times I lose functionality until I disconnect and reconnect the hub or device.
I have disconnected all, and connected just one or another (without the hub as well) but no matter what is connected I still get the same issue of the system thinking the devices are connecting or disconnecting at random times. This is new with 10.4.7, as I have had the same hardware connected as far back as 10.2. Anyone else having this problem, loss of USB functionality or sollution for such since updating to 10.4.7?

I too am having many of the same issues as all of you. I have my keyboard, mouse, and printer hooked up to a NEC USB 2.0 Manual Share Switch Hub. The hub is connected to a non-factory USB 2.0 card I installed in my PowerMac. Before the 10.4.7 update, I had none of these following problems.
Everything works and has worked great until I put the computer to sleep. Upon waking, the USB hub refuses to acknowledge my computer. I also get two strange beeps as it is waking. And because my input devices are hooked up to the hub, I am unable to do anything but restart the computer, upon which all becomes well again with the usb hub.
I defintely prefer to put my computer to sleep rather than restarting it everytime. Hopefully apple provides a fix soon; I really don't feel like messing with extensions. I could always revert back to 10.4.6, but I guess I was being optimistic that the fix would come soon. APPLE, get on it!

  • Got the Stratosphere update, and USB won't work anymore

    Hi all.
At a loss here. I did the update today for the OS...and other than fixing the annoying cb# issue, and the change to the unlock, what I'm stumped on is when I connect to my PC, via USB, I get "Sorry! Process com.android.settings stoped unexpectely. Try again" and a force close box.
If I got to the USB Settings in the Settings area, it also faults when I tap on the USB settings.
Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

I'm with you, jrh4054. As I posted here: https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/868896#868896, I find that even though I get the error, I can still access the phone from my computer via USB to manage files. I plan to just ignore it, assuming that the functionality remains the same. It seems that it does not even occur every time. No way it's worth a factory reset.
The "debug" option that has been mentioned is found here: https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/862342#862342. I'm honestly not sure what it is supposed to accomplish.
As mkracing66 pointed out, I discovered today that if I go to Settings > USB Settings, I get the same error when I tap on the USB settings. That seems to be where the problem is really located.
Many, many people seem to be encountering this error. Looks to me like a matter of an update that was almost ready to roll out, but not quite. Will there be a fix? I'd sure like to think so, but we'll see.

  • 10.5.6 update and USB problem.

Since upgrading to 10.5.6 whenever I attach my ipod or sony reader it now takes 4 or 5 minutes before the computer recognises that a USB device has been plugged in.
Anybody else had a similar problem or knows what is causing it.
    Many thanks,
    Allen.

I had a kernel panic with a USB-connected scanner. After a lot of experimenting, I changed the USB port the scanner was plugged in to and everything worked fine.
Try plugging your USB accessories into different USB ports. It couldn't hurt

    PLease help.
I did the itunes and ios updates and it came up with something about apple recovery mode.
The phone will not work and its not being recognised in iTunes.
What do I do? I think I may have made it worse because I've tried to reinstall the previous version of itunes as was suggested elsewhere.
    Thanks

    Any specific error messages?
Try switching off your seurity software and restore the device http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
NB: using that article will erase everything so make sure you have a backup
try restoring on another computer if this fails, and if that doesn't work either, the device needs hardware repair.

  • Need help W/ USB camera (integrated in ViewSonic LCD) to work W/Mac mini

I own an View Sonic LCD Monitor, Model: VX2255wm (USB web cam integrated)
I connected the display and USB camera to a Mac Mini Running Mac OSX 10.5.2 and 2 GB of memory. It also has an Intel Core Solo processor.
For some reason the USB camera will not work correctly with Photo Booth. ( it shuts it off when I want to use it and it sends an error message to apple).
I tried it with iChat and the camera turned on ok and it did not shut off the program. I tried contacting ViewSonic to see if they had any drivers that I could install in the Mac mini to help it work better, unfortunately they told me to contact Apple. So here I am.
Can anyone help me out to figure out what I can do to get this issue fixed? I am new to Macs and I am learning that overall they are so easy to use and do not have any problems connecting any hardware to Macs, this is the first issue I have come across and would like to have it solved so that I am able to use Photo Booth Again. Would anyone know if Apple has some generic drivers that could help me get that USB camera to work correctly?
I appreciate any help I can get.
    Thank you
P.S. The LCD works perfect, its just the camera I have problems with.

    Hi Jedihunter6X9-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards
First of all realize that for the most part no one here is officially "Apple". We are all users just like yourself.
That being said, I can assure you that it is a monitor manufacturer's responsibility to both provide drivers for a Mac-compatible device and to update them to keep them current with any OS updates.
The reason that they sent you in this direction is because they don't market that monitor as being compatible with a Mac, and in fact ViewSonic's website lists PC only as a compatible computer.
There may be a generic driver and hopefully someone in the community has been able to get this to work and will share.
    Luck-

  • A five USB cameras in 1-e PC?

This isn't a big problem with different camera models. But my favorite is Creative WEB Cam Live! Ultra. I have problem to see 2-o or more cameras together. I have too much video-software...

The free NI-IMAQ for USB Cameras driver is meant to support simple USB webcams that use DirectShow.  For machine vision or scientific imaging applications, most USB cameras don't have the performance or the features needed, like triggering.  The primary "customer" for the free driver has been universities that use webcams in labs.
With that said, there are a few industrial USB cameras out there that can be used for machine vision.  The problem is tha there is no industrial USB camera standard that covers them all (like there is with FireWire), so companies like National Instruments would have to provide and support different drivers and software tools for every indutrial USB camera.
A better solution is IEEE 1394 (or FireWire).  They offer the same performance as USB 2.0 cameras and are around the same price.  On top of that, almost every large industrial camera manufacture has a line of industrial FireWire cameras (including Sony, Basler, FLIR, and Cohu), and they all conform to the same DCAM (or IIDC) standard.  WIth this standard, our one driver, NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 Cameras, works with all of them.
Vision Builder AI is designed to solve machine vision applications without programming, while USB cameras usually don't provide the triggering or advanced modes necessary for machine vision.  Because machine vision and USB cameras don't usually go together, we didn't provide support for USB cameras within Vision Builder AI.  My question to you, another_novice, is why would you like to use a USB camera with Vision Builder AI?  Are there particular features in a certain USB camera that you can't find in other cameras?  I would really like to know so we can get a better picture of how our customers are using our products.
    Thank you.

  • Support for USB cameras in VBAI?
