IChat AV 4, can't edit buddy icons?

I don't know if apple either dropped the ability to be able to edit your buddys' icon anymore or if it's a bug. So I was wondering if someone else with leopard could try that out as well, Thanks!
The feature I'm referring to is on iChat AV is if you were to drag a photo onto the icon on your buddy's info section you could double click it and resize and scale it.

It's definitely not there, and seems like Apple dropped the option. I just dragged a photo I wanted to use for a friend into their picture bucket (when I chose to get info on them). And it will only drop the photo in without giving me the cropping tools still available to me when I want to edit my own buddy icon.

IChat + Google Talk: shrinks google's buddy icon. Any fix?

I use iChat for google talk. Unfortunately, every time I start up iChat, the buddy icon in iChat overrides the buddy icon on google's servers. iChat's icon must be smaller, because if i go to use google talk via web interface (in gmail, etc.), the buddy icon is very pixalated (as if google is trying to enlarge it).
Any way to stop iChat from overriding google's buddy icon???

First let me tell you that Chax is one of the best add on programs out there for the mac. I value your work and appreciate it.
An issues that's been around for a while, and one which I wonder if you can take care of in one of the upcoming releases.
Basically, the problem is using iChat for Google Talk. What happens is that your buddy icon in iChat ends up overwriting the buddy icon you have set on google/gmail/gtalk/etc. This is a problem because iChat's buddy icon is much smaller, pixel wise, and ends up making the icon on any of google's pages look absolutely terrible.
Is there anything you can do to prevent iChat from overriding google's icon, or to have allow iChat to use a larger size icon (probably much more difficult).
There have been many threads about this on apple's discussion forums and on gmail/gtalk google group forums. There is no solution.

How can I get an Extension's toolbar icon to display image without text (without universally affecting other icons)? How can I edit the icons text (save space)?

"From the Show dropdown menu, you can choose what to display in the toolbars: icons, text, or icons and text together. By default, Firefox shows icons only." Is there a way to choose an individual setting for a specific toolbar icon to be icon only (no text) without universally affecting all other icons on the toolbars?
Second, is there a way to edit the text on a specific toolbar button from an extension (because it occupies too much horizontal space on the toolbar due to the amount of text)? I do know how to locate the xpi file & open it with notepad, but then it's mainly code (not English) & FIND doesn't locate the button's text (to edit it).
These 2 questions should apply to Extension buttons in general. However IF it makes any difference I'm referring to the Toolbar Button in Back To Top 7.0 which says "Go to top/bottom". I'd at least like to edit out "Go to", but my questions apply to other Extension buttons too. I do realize it may be necessary to redo any fix/change each time there is an update? THANK YOU.

We use the DOM Inspector to find the IDs and Class Names of elements.

The DOM Inspector (DOMi) has a menu item (Edit > Select Element By Click) and a toolbar button "Find a node to inspect by clicking on it" (left icon on the toolbar in the DOMi).
* open the browser window in the DOMi (File > Inspect <b>Chrome</b> Document) and choose the first from the list.
* click the "Find a node to inspect by clicking on it" button and use the keyboard (Alt Tab) or the Task bar to go back to the browser window (do not click in the browser window other than the title bar).
* click that element with the mouse and keep the button pressed until you see a red border to indicate the the DOMi has located that element in the DOM tree.

Can we edit the icon that represents our XControl on the block diagram?

I created an XControl in LabVIEW 8.5 (and 8.2.1), and I did add custom icons to all the typedefs and VIs associated with it. However, when I drop it on the front panel, I get a generic-looking icon representation on the block diagram. However, when I create a simple typedef and drop that on the front panel, I get the typedef's icon framed in the datatype-specific border on the block diagram. Perhaps I missed something about how do edit that guy. It's a minor issue, but I'm curious.

Right click the XControl itself in the project and select Properties. There you'll see an icon that can edit, which will show up on the XControl on a block diagram.

IChat Internal Error when trying to change own Buddy Icon

On my son's iBook G4 with OS 10.4.5 and iChat AV 3.1.1, he gets an error when trying to insert some JPG photos for his own Buddy Icon. It says:
iChat Internal error! NSInvalidargumentexception: * -[NSCFArray addObject:] attempt to insert nil
Also where are all your recent pictures stored??? Upon searching iChat Recent Pictures on my HD, it see they should be User>Library>Images>iChat Recent Pictures. However upon tyring to open that fiel, I get a message saying, "The alias 'ichat Recent Pictures' could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found." I can select delete alias, fix alias or ok. Might this also relate to my problem?

Hi Michael,
I pointed you to that thread as the error message you posted is normally associated with either a spellcheck problem or something odd with the Me Card in the Address Book.
You can drag pics to the Recent Buddies folder but iChat will not see them.
Create a New Folder and call it iChat Recent Pictures
The alias should be removed.
You should now find that iChat will let you select a choice as a new Buddy Pic.
This is done by clicking on the current Buddy pica nad selecting the "Edit Picture" option.
Then "Choose".
Navigate to the Pic and then resize as require.
Use the "Set" button.
This will convert the pic to a jpeg 2000 copy of the original and the Recents.plist which is needed within the folder.
You should now be good to go.

Contacts Pictures being overwritten in Sync with iChat Buddy iCons

This is really a problem in 2 parts. Firstly iChat AV is taking over the Address Book Picture. I can set the picture in the Phone, and that contact is someone that is in my iChat Buddy List. I can also set the picture in Address Book. But when the person goes online with his custom buddy icon, that takes over the Address Book icon I'd set. This eventually gets sync'd to the iPhone and then overwriting the lovely picture for my contact and replacing it with a lo res buddy icon. Lame. This is true even if I set the Buddy icon and tell iChat to always use that icon. The Custom Buddy icon seems to always eat the nicer pictures that I place in for the Buddy/Contact in my Address Book.
This seems to be more prevalent on Tiger than on Leopard, but I spend most of my time online in Tiger and its also the machine I sync the iPhone to.

Fortunately, I've discovered the problem was not iChat but Adium. Adium was overwriting my AddressBook Buddy icon. For those of you who run into this as well, you can turn off the setting in the Advanced tab of Adium, under the Address Book sub-tab. There's an images section of that screen. Uncheck "Overwrite Address Book images..."

What is going on with my iChat buddy icons?

Hi everyone, I hope this hasn't been answered before, I searched and couldn't find a topic related to this specific iChat Error. So, just recently I have noticed that I have a blank spot where a buddy icon should be under the recent buddy icon drop down menu. If I select it I get an iChat internal error! It reads: NSImageCacheException: Can't cache image. I'm running iChat 3.1.4. What happened and what can I do to repair this problem? Any help is appreciated. The only thing I've tried is repairing my permissions.

It IS the buddy icon in the upper right corner of the iChat window. Just click it and it opens a recent buddy icons menu.
But i figured out my issue just now.
All I had to do was set a picture for "ME" in the address book and it filled that blank space. Now I no longer get that error.

There are some really cool buddy icons out there and I even downloaded some of the ones from Apple that came with my .mac account.
Is there a way to assign different icons to appear based on what my status is?
In the "Current iTunes trac" status can I have the current iTunes track cover art display?

Moving photos from photostream to your library just imports them, it doesn't remove it from photostream, therefore photostream won't disappear.
Photos in photostream can't be edited, you can only edit photos that have been imported from photostream.

I can't edit my donwloads. The organizer photos have an orange icon at the top left corner and the find offline volumem - edit pops up when I try to edit the pictures. Also, the downloaded pictures don't show up in "My Pictures" document.

You have likely dragged the size of the filmstrip thumbnails to a small size that prevents Lightroom from displaying the badges. Using your mouse, mouse over the top line of the filmstrip and then drag it supports to increase the size.

Buddy Icons not showing up in buddy list?

I hit something(I don't remember what) and my buddy list no longer shows me buddy icons how can I fix this?

With iChat in the menu bar click on view and the make sure you have a tick by "show buddy pictures"

I can hear my buddy but not see in Video Chat...

Sort of. Its an odd situation. In video chats, I can see my buddy just fine, but she can't see me. On my side the only symptom of this problem is that "local video" refuses to appear. Any thoughts? I read a similar topic in the forums, but it dealt with Perian, which I've never heard of.

Perian is a System Add-on that gets added to System Preferences that help Quicktime play formats it does not normally play.
Are you saying that if you click your own Video Icon next to your Buddy pic at the head of the Buddy List you do not get a Preview ?
And no pic appears in iChat > Preferences > Video section ?
I would do a PRAM reset first.
Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down APPLE(or ⌘ )ALT(⌥)+PR Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.

Only some buddy icons showing

One of my users has only a couple of his buddy icons showing up in iChat. The rest of us show as a generic user. View buddy icons is turned on. Thoughts?

Providing the Buddies have Buddy Pics themselves then his iChat should be seeing them.
If he has the AIM Screen name and has added "Real Name" in iChat then he will have an Address Book entry for that person.
The Address Book will this tend to display the Buddy icon/pic from iChat (if there was/is one).
In iChat if you highlight a Buddy then do a Get Info (CMD and i Keys together) you do get an option about which pic you can use.
The Default is the one from the iChat servers,with the one from the Address Book being "next" although you can also chose one and "Set" it permanently.
I run an app called Little Snitch which will tell you which ports and IP address an App will try to connect to.
As well as the Login server iChat connects to a Buddy pic server.
Any change this is being blocked ?

Different buddy icon per jabber account

My wife and I use iChat to view our Google Talk buddies, so we have one account each added to iChat to maintain our separate buddy lists.
The problem is that iChat won't allow us to have a different buddy icon for each jabber account.
Does anyone know if we can achieve this?

If you are using one Mac User Account it can not be done in iChat 4 (or Earlier)
(Well not unless you and your wife have an Address Card Entry each and you change the Address Card each time you use iChat).

If you are at OS 10.5.6 and iChat 4.0.7 add that detail as well as they are not in the Drop down yet.
