IChat AV conecting to aim video

I have no problem text chatting with people using aim, however I absolutely cannot connect via iChat av with them. No video.
So um, can I get some quick and easy advice for this? So far I've read some long and drawn out guides to connecting it, but none have connected. Has Apple released some real advice or fixes for this? Are there any?

I have not been on my computer in about a month and when i went to sign back into my aim screen name on ichat it says "Could not connect to AIM (...my screenname...) The connection could not be completed because it timed out. Try again." and ive tried many times. Also im currenty on the internet. PLease help me! Thank you.

    Hi,
The setting in System Preferences > Secruity > Firewall is On or Off.
If ON then you need to go to the Advanced Button and in there, Enable Allow Signed apps and Add iChat to the list

  • Video chat between iChat Mac user and AIM pc user?

Me and my friend are attempting to video chat with each other via iChat for him and AIM for me. He is using iChat version 4.0.2 and I am using AIM version 6.8.10.1. When we send an video chat invitation it says that it timed out, could not connect. It sometimes kicks him off iChat, according to him. Can anyone help us solve this issue? Ty!

AIM said this about AIM 6.5 http://www.aim.com/helpfaq/starting_out/getstarted.adp#608
There is no information that they have posted that says AIM 6.8 is any better.
Some say it will work (AIM in General that is)
This is certainly needed http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/page12.html#_Service to allow the app through the Windows Firewall.
In the AIM Preferences you will also have to select the camera in the Enhanced IM tab
The Mic should be selected in the control Panels as a System wide thing.
AIM since before AIM 5.9 has used port 1024-5000 as well as the Login on port 5190 and there is no reason to suspect it is any different now.
These ports will need to be allowed or open in your routing device.

  • Can ichat viedo with with aim buddy

when my buddy on my list send me a web cam request, after I accepted it, it gave me the error message. why is that? he is using pc aim, and I am mac, is that the problem?
can someone trouble shoot for me, please......

    Hi
    Have you done the following?
    iChat>Preferences>Video>Bandwidth limit: None
    System Preferences>Quicktime>Streaming>streaming speed: 1.5Mpbs T1/Intranet/LAN
    Restart iChat
Which version of AIM? AIM website says 6.5 doesn't video chat with iChat. However, some people report success. Maybe going back to 5.9 a good idea.
    Has PC end done this?

  • Ichat connection problem with AIM

    hello Everybody,
first here is the set up
    imac intel
    ichat av 3.1.1
    cable modem/ airport express /
im connected to the internet trough an airport extreme to the airort express.
    on the other side
    pc XP home using AIM
ok i can see the AIM user on my buddy list i can see that their camera is on,we can text chat, but when we try to connect (video Chat) i get different messages, like, they never responded, declined , etc. can someone tells me if i need to forward some ports on the airport express if so how can i do that, or probably they need to have an specific version of AIM, pleaseeee can someone help me, i make this person change to macintosh from pc and now she can get in touch with her family!!!!!!

that just sounds like the pc user has a crappy cam.. i used to have a regular vga cam, but then i just went out and bought the equivalent to the isight for pc's.... i chat w/ my gf all the time.. she has ichat and i use aim 5.9.. i do have had the same connection issue .. the one about the mac inviting the pc versus the pc inviting the mac.. i don't know what's up with that but i do know that the video quality is due to either using anything lower than cable... or the pc has a crappy cam....

  • My ichat will let me send video chats requests, but it will not let me accept them. What should i do? Also, sometimes it tells me i cannot add a 2nd or 3rd person to an existing chat because it is connected to AOL's relay servers. What does this mean?

Unfortunately, most of my advice is in the "hindsight is 20-20" category.
First off, I would never have purchased the peripheral accessories until the 14 day return period had expired. Second, you learned the hard way what the "14 days" really means.
Too bad you didn't do any homework, reading this and other forums and tech sites. Even word of mouth from others. That, more than anything could have steered you towards different phone choices from the get-go and I will leave that there with no further comment other than to say most of the issues you described have been discussed in this forum, ad nauseam.
Once you got into the refurbished phone exchanges, that is where things really went haywire. What someone tells you over the phone is a sketchy proposition, and when it comes down to it, it's your word against theirs.
I think Verizon tried to make it right, though. Remember, they don't make the phones. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
You stated yourself you were a satisfied Verizon customer before this. Had the first two phones performed as they should, you would still be a satisfied Verizon customer.
Doubt any of that will make you any happier, but after you went through the effort of writing such a long post, I thought I'd try.

  • IChat cannot connect ot AIM

trying to set up iChat on an (old?) PowerBook G4 (Mac OS X 10.4.11), iChat v3.1.9 every time iChat starts up and tries to connect a window opens telling me that the AIM login failed (wrong Pseudonym {screenname} or Password).
During setup I have choosen *.Mac account* and entered the MobileMe ID (ending on @me.com). In the window I see that this has changed to @mac.com.
On the same PowerBook there is another user installed and that one worked perfect: connection through .Mac and having the same @mac.com endings. This account is about three years old (no MobileMe then). The newly created account is a family account and was created with @me.com
I have also created an AIM account right now and adding that account to iChat allows me to connect to AIM without a problem. Therefor I assume that my software on the PowerBook is ok but there must be something wrong with the handover from iChats MobileMe data to AIM.
Unfortunately I have no idea what I have to change, can anyone help? Thank you.

    Hi,
As you know the .Mac service when it ran did much the same as MobileMe does now.
For iChat though there was one difference in that trial or even a lapsed Paid For account could continue to be be used in iChat.
In Leopard when MobileMe came out an Update ran that changed all the .Mac references to MobileMe and added the option to many apps including iChat.
Trial MobileMe accounts do not work after the 60 day trial. (The trials need a active Credit card registered and also Active Cancellation).
In Tiger there was no MobileMe update hence the work around for adding @me.name as AIM names.
The Get an iChat Account Button used to lead to @Mac.com for a registration as a trial when Adding an Account/Screen name to the iChat > Prefs > Accounts
In Leopard this button, more recently, this has led here
So now @mac.com names are being used as iChat Screen Names.
The downside is that you get stuck with the password you first set up.

  • IChat lost connection to AIM!?!?!?!

Everytime I try to go on to iChat this message pops up "iChat lost connection to AIM. The connection to the host was unexpectedly lost." Any help?!?!

Help! I've got the same problem and I've tried - port 443, 1080, 5091 and neither works. I can ping the aol server, use msn, but I cannot connect to AIM with ichat or with the standalone version AIM 4.7 for the mac. The web version doesn't seem to work either. I started a new account and i got the same error message at login - could not connect to aim - the connection tot he host was unexpedtedly lost. I am at a school, but the network guys have said that the application isn't being blocked and the ports should be open. I have a wireless macbook with os x tiger and a wired imac intel with os x tiger and neither work. any suggestions?

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
Can you log in to any AIM/AOL page with that Screen Name a password ?
Try the Sign In option top right here https://settings.aim.com/
It says AIM on that page but will read AOL at the next.

  • Cant connect w/video from my mac ichat to PC users AIM.

When in ichat and trying to connect a video chat from my mac to a PC user using AIM, I get a communication error. On my end it often says they declined while on their end it says Timed Out. Mac to Mac seems to work just fine.
    Any Suggestions?

It still does not guarantee success but is a collection of all the things that used to work.
It does seem to have become more difficult since AIM on a PC got to version 6.5

  • Using iChat AV and trying to video conference with a PC using AIM

I am trying to create an AV session from my mac to a PC. I am using iChat with an AIM username and the PC is using AIM. Everytime i try to establish a video connection it says that I did not respond. What can I do to fix this?

    HI Helen,
    Just to check.
    He is on XP ?
He is using AIM 5.9 ?
He has Tuned the camera and Mic to the App ?
If he is at Service Pack 2 he has enabled the app through the XP firewall ?
You have the MAc firewall Off.
The ports are enabled in your modem.
Either using UPnP or these actual ports
    5060, 5190, 5678, 16384-16403 for just the AIM stuff.
Have you changed the Quicktime setting to match your download speed ?
Can you and he get any of the people or test accounts o this page ?

  • Multiple video ichat with a PC AIM buddy - possible?

can you do a multiple video chat on iChat with someone who is on a PC AIM?

    Hi
    Not iChat to PC AIM.
Have a look at this web based multi-video(upto 8) http://www.mebeam.com/

  • Ichat - aim video

When beginning an ichat video conference with a PC user on aim - I am using a MAC- my video shows up on his im window but his does not show up on mine. We know his video camera is working because it shows up on his picture-in-picture on his aim. Anyone have an suggestions on how I can get his picture to come up on my ichat screen? Thanks

AIM can be a little quirky about the camera.
Get him to check the AIM Preferences and Enhanced IM and set the camera again

  • AIM 4 Mac/Windows (Triton Version), No iChat 4 now (I want Video)

Hello: I have a group of Windows XP users (Family) who don't mind installing a specific Program into their computer for the sole purpose of On-Line Video Chatting with me.
Does anybody have experience with AIM for Mac (Triton Version), Video communicating with a Windows user using AIM for Windows (Triton Version), and leaving iChat out of the equation (until it's more compatible) ?
I just want to know if it's less problematic to stick with one Company (server) Thanks, MLR

    HI MRL,
My FAQ has nothing but the same info Niel gave you.
Also note the Link to AIM 5.9 is wrong (out of date) in that FAQ which might lead to confusion.
AIM 5.9 (This link) or Trillian.
NOT AIM/AOL's new (beta) Triton (Which is where the out of date link goes).
