IChat AV/iSight Program for OS 10.4.11
I just purchased an older replacement G5 iMac which came with a external iSight cam/mike. I find no iChat/iSight software on the hard drive within its existing OS 10.4.11. Where can I get the iChat AV / iSight program? Can it be found on the original OS.10 that came with my now useless first G5 iMac? Any help will be appreciated. rgs
iChat is automatically installed in your Mac's Applications folder with Mac OS X.
Unless someone has moved it, you should be able to navigate to it using
the Finder > Go > Applications menu command.
Reinstalling Tiger (OS X 10.4) will automatically put iChat in the correct location. However, if you want to reinstall ONLY iChat, the process is discussed at http://discussions.apple.com/thread/1486891
To avoid possible problems that might occur due to other previous "modifications" the previous owner(s) may have made, I would zero the Mac's hard drive and do a clean install of Tiger before I installed anything else. Use the Disk Utility on the OS X
install DVD that came with the Mac to securely erase the disk with one write of zeros before you install Tiger. When finished with the erase and install, use the
Mac's Software Update... to apply all needed updates before adding any other software.

PC Webcam works with iChat and iSight
Before I purchase a web cam for my PC I need to know if it will work with iChat and iSight. Will I need to install any third party software for my mac or PC?

You will need to make a choice between AIM and Trillian
The AIM app is free but does not Audio only Chat to iChat users and has a very small pic.
Trillian costs $25 for the Pro version to Video chat but has a Bigger pic and can do full screen. The Basic version can alos Audio only chat to iChat users. Trillian can also join other IM services.
More info on setting up AIM on the PC http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page12.html and the XP Service Pack 2 firewall. The Firewall will need to have Trillain enabled though it as well if you use that.

IChat and "Insufficient bandwidth" for video chats
I have spent hours and hours trying to solve this problem, after having spent a lot of money for an iSight specifically for use with iChat, which I now find don't work together. I just made the switch from PC to MAC and have been nothing but amazed until this... Here I have to give a huge "thumbs down", though. Apple has really screwed this one up.
The error when trying to connect video is "Insufficient bandwidth to maintain..." and sometimes "A communications error has occurred".
If anybody out there, especially APPLE can help me fix this, I'd be very appreciative. Note that I had GREAT success with aMSN, Yahoo Messenger, and Skype (for the mic).
Based on lots of reading, here are things I've done without success. Note that I have a very good ADSL-2 20MB connection! The machine is a new Mac mini Intel core duo.
1. Set the QuickTime streaming bandwidth to below what I know the ADSL line can do.
2. Set port forwarding for all the ports I found in all the FAQs, Apple technical documents, etc., etc.
3. Tried turning the UPNP of the ADSL modem both ON and OFF.
4. Made sure there is no firewall.
5. Tried every setting for the video bandwidth setting in iChat.
6. Tried both .mac and AIM accounts. (You never know...)
7. Made sure I have none of the known conflicting software indicated by Apple.
8. Made sure that Apple Remote connections are disabled.
9. Upgraded to 10.4.7.
I have actually read that some people got around this problem by connecting their MAC directly to their ADSL modem and (presumably) turning off its routing functions. But what am supposed to do with my 4 other computers, then?
Apple, please FIX THIS! There are abosolutely tons of people with the same problem and no solution.

When you said "two lots", I thought you may have meant that the DHCP server might be giving out IP addresses on two sub-nets (192.168.0.xxx, 192.168.1.xxx, etc.).
Since all of my machines have a static IP (except my business laptop, which I have to drag around to customer sites), I actually tried turning off the DHCP server to see if it helped. It didn't.
Also, I don't quite follow what you're saying about the NIC actually having two addresses (masquerading)... one from the modem and one from the DHCP. This should not be true, as it is the specific purpose of NAT to avoid this. Only the modem/router should really know "who is who" and relay packets appropriately.
The only pseudo-exception I can see for this is if the iChat software on the client and/or the AIM server is passing through the external/internal IP addresses as part of its data packets... ie., not in the IP headers to be handled normally by the NAT layer. If so, then this is just quite simply a design flaw in iChat... and a really stupid one.
One other point... Should I understand from your reply that if I set the modem up for "single user" mode (ie., turn off NAT and DHCP), then I would need to manually forward the right ports?

Yes the Mac OS now supports USB Video Class Cameras (UVC)
Not All USB cameras are USB Video class though.

I can't get my registered versions of CS6 Photoshop and Illustrator to run in full mode. I installed CS6 Design Standard online end of June (an upgrade from CS5.5), on my old MacBook Pro. I didn't run the programs then as I was waiting on arrival of new MacBook Pro. I migrated the programs from my old MacBook to the new, and today tried to run those programs for the first time. InDesign work OK (after an initial hiccup) but Illustrator and Photoshop will only run in trial mode, and won't let me save files. My CS6 Design Standard shows with it's registration in my Adobe Account. All seems in order, but Illustrator and Photoshop won't run in registered mode. Can you please help?

Please use the uninstallers to remove your current installation. They are located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder. Once the uninstall is complete you will also want to run the CC Cleaner Tool. When I learn the book of "Operating Systems (Design and Implementation)"(written by Andrew S.Tanenbaum), I try to write a program for the "Philosopher Problem" . PhilosopherEating.finished = true;this problem is about learning how to use threads/synchronise objects etc, the efficiency of the code isn't really an issue, if that's what you mean. As for the efficiency of the solution, it's very hard to tell how efficient it is, but as long as all the philosphers get to eat there's no problem. I haven't really scrutized your code, but I'm not sure that you have a deadlock free solution: as long as it is possible for all the phils to pick up one fork at the same time there's a problem, and it seems from your code that each philosopher will pick up "his" fork. Again, I could be wrong, I haven't really looked. If you haven't come up with a solution, try drawing it on paper and working it out, or if you're lazy a quick google will probably give you the answer, but I'm pretty sure nobody here will :)
