IChat between two people using the same .mac account

I am in Singapore. My wife is in NY. We are both using our family .mac account. She is using the account from the computer I left in NY, and I am using it on the computer I have brought here. We both have cameras hooked up to the respective computers. Is there some way that we can video chat with each other using the I chat and our single .mac account. We are both running ichat 4.03

No. Use a trial/expired .Mac account or free AIM account with iChat on the other computer.

  • HT1694 Is there a way to have emails sent to both your ipad and desktop and then be able to delete them off of your ipad while having them stay on the computer? Two people use the same email account.

My parents use the same email address and both want to access all the emails that come in. My mom uses the ipad and my dad using the desktop. Recently the ipad started deleting emails off of the desktop when you deleted them off the ipad. Is there a way to get the messages deleted from the ipad to stay in the inbox on the desktop? Thanks!

Yes, that would require a POP type email account. What you describe now is the proper functioning of an IMAP type email account.
Contact your email provider to see if they can help.

  • Two people using the same Mac for tutorials.

I went through a tutorial with the writer of a program and he was walking me through the program while he was in his home city and state. I believe this 'sharing' was set up in our .Mac accounts.
I do remember him telling me to get ready to accept a request to use my computer from him. Once he was somehow connected with my computer the on line tutorial was on.
Could anyone help with what this feature is and a "real good article or tutorial" on how to use it.
Help is sometimes not too much Help.
Thanks in advance for any input you may have to offer.

It's kind of a rough time to learn about .Mac because it's being changed to another service called MobleMe, pretty much at this moment. But there are some pages on Apple's web site that have some information, such as

  • Share a library between two users on the same mac?

It is possible to share a library between two users on the same mac?

It's doable. As it's been pointed out Aperture has no provisions for file locking so you can't have two users accessing the library at the same time. This includes having one user having the library open only for browsing. Aperture doesn't have a +Read Only+ mode, when it opens the library, even if you make no changes to any images, the library will be written to.
This also means you can't have one user open the library and then stop using Aperture but still have the library open and then have another copy of Aperture open on the library.
Of course if you have two copies of Aperture running even they are on different libraries you'll be in violation of the license and you'll have bigger problems to worry about then a toasted library.

  • How can I share a folder between two users on the same mac?

    Hi all,
I would like to share a folder between multiple users on the same macbook without having to transfer the folder to the Public/Shared folder.
Is there not a way, using the the folders shared permissions, to allow shared folders from one user to be visible and usable by another user on the same mac without having to move the folder to a designated shared location?
    Regards,
    Caleb

Thanks, but do you have to do that every time you share a folder?
No, you just need to do it once and that's it. Anything that is in the Shared folder is accessible by all user accounts within the same Mac.

I've read numerous 'how to share a folder' blogs and they just say it's as simple as clicking 'share' and allowing specific users to access it...none have mentioned this (not saying your advice is wrong at all, just don't get why no-one else has mentioned what appears to be a key step!)
Can you give me an example of such a blog. I suspect you may have mis-understood what they were saying but if you can provide a link, I'll look at it.

  • Can two people use the same computer with two different ipods?

I was just wondering if me and my mother can use the same computer with our ipods?

Glad you asked. Before you get rid of the old one move its iTunes Library to the new one:
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer

"Deauthorize" the old computer too. Go to the iTunes Store menu and select "Deauthorize This Computer..."
I hope you get a Mac this time

  • Sharing iTunes library between two users on the same Mac

I recently bought my parents a new MacBook Pro (they switched from Windows). I was able to get all of their songs over and into my dad's iTunes library. My mom and dad each have separate accounts on the MBP, but they'd both like to be able to see (and listen to) the same iTunes library, not at the same time, obviously.
Is that possible? If so how? Is it enough to point my mom's iTunes to the same folder? Do I need to put special permissions on that iTunes folder while logged into my dad's account?

the easy way is to use itunes sharing. start itunes in your dad's account and enable sharing in itunes preferences->sharing. then other users including your mother will be able to listen to the songs from your dad's itunes library but ONLY while your dad is logged in. so in order for this to work both of them should be logged in at the same time. to make that possible enable fast user switching in system preferences->accounts->login options. However, this is not terribly convenient.
it's possibly (but surprisingly tricky) to use the same itunes library without having both users logged in at the same time.

yes. not just permissions. you need to put inherited ACLs on your dads Music folder to give both of them read+write access to all current and future files in it. so log in as your dad and run the following terminal command (copy and paste please)
    chmod -R +a "username allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,\
    addsubdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directoryinherit" ~/Music
instead of username put the short user name of your dad's account. it's the same as the name of his home directory in /Users. then repeat the command with your mother's username instead of your dad's. after that log out of your dad's account, log into your mom's account and point her itunes library to his itunes library. to do that start itunes while holding option.

  • How to share iTunes library between two users on the same Mac

We have recently bought a Macbook Pro and have successfully transferred the old PC information onto the Mac.  But, the iTunes library from the PC has now just gone into the old user acct.  I am now confused as to which iTunes user name I connect my devices?  Is there a way to merge these two iTunes through the user accts?
    Thanks,
I feel like I learning about computers all over again!

  • Can I have two ipads use the same itunes account on 2 computers?

I just purchased a new iPad for my wife.  I currently have an iPad 2 with a ton of apps.  I;d like to be able to have her use the apps that I've already purchased, but still allow her the ability to sync the new iPad to her computer.  Can i do this?

Problem. You can't share apps or purchased content between two different iTunes accounts. The iPad(s) will be completely resynched (removing apps not associated with the current account) each time you synch, depending on how you synch. IMHO, not worth the effort.

  • Can two people use the same Nike plus and Nano?

Or will we each need our own. My husband purchased one and I would also like to use it. We work out at different times and it would be nice not to have to purchase different units, but will it upload both or our workout information or does anyone know if we can pick which workouts to upload. Thanks!!
    rachel

All the workout data would get uploaded to the Nike+ website into a single-user's data.
However, if you really don't want to buy two units, the Nike+ website does offer you the ability to "name" your workouts. So, each time you work out, the two of you could give your workouts a name that would allow to differentiate whose is whose. For instance, "His Workout #1" and "Her Workout #1," etc. The combined totals would represent both "His" and "Her" workout totals, but you could at least tell the difference between individual workouts.
    Hope this helps!

  • Best way to go about having two people use the same form?

    Hi guys,
Relativly new to livecycle and I need some help.
I've been asked to make a form that 2 different people will have access too, what I need to do is as followed:
    Person 1
Only has access to the first 5 pages and is able to fill out the form
    Person 2
Has access to the WHOLE document and can see what PERSON 1 has entered.
Can this be done with two different versions of the document, or will it have to be all as one?
    Regards

Well I have done it before by using a button which the second person clicks and this brings up a messagebox which asks for a password. If the password is entered correctly the rest of the form (which is originally set to hidden) will become visible. The code in the click event of the button is something like (in formcalc):
    var correctpassword = xfa.host.response("Password:","For office use only","",1)
    if (correctpassword == "whateverYouWantYourPasswordToBe") then
        restOfForm.presence = "visible"
        $.presence = "hidden"
else xfa.host.messageBox("You have entered the wrong password","For office use only",1)
    endif

  • Two people using the same itunes

my brother and i have two ipods, but i cant get songs that i dowload on my ipod, but he can. how do i fix this?

Are you using two user accounts or one? How are you trying to add the music to library? How are you set to sync iPod contents? These details may help in figuring out what is the problem.

  • Can you have different face time accounts when two iPads use the same iTunes account?

I use one iTunes account for all apple products but want to use face time. Can I set it up so when we are not together we can face time each other.

Yes. In settings, FaceTime, just add an email. Email acts as a phone number. When you place a call to the other ipad, just make sure it's to that email.
