Welcome to Discussions, Matt (msollars)
For any iSight problems, first try restarting the Mac. If the problems persist, try all relevant suggestions from:
  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
If your iSight problem still occurs in more than one app and more than one user account, the reset suggested there often restores proper function of inbuilt iSight.
After carefully following all the suggestions in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article, if your built-in iSight still does not work with one or two apps regardless of which user account you use to test them, resetting the preferences for the app(s) giving trouble may resolve your issue.
Preference files end in ".plist" and are located in your ~User/Library/Preferences/ folder. Preferences for Apple apps (including iChat and Photo Booth) start with "com.apple...."
Quit the app and throw away the related .plist file. When you next launch the app, it will create a new file that reset its preferences to default values.
As examples, if iChat and Photo Booth problems continue in every tested user account after the troubleshooting suggested above, the preference files you will delete are these:
  com.apple.iChat.plist
  com.apple.PhotoBooth.plist
If you have problems with different apps and need help finding their associated .plist files, post back the app name and version number. We will give more specific responses based on your details.

  • Itunes and quicktime not working!!! HELP PLEASE!!

I upgraded my itunes and stopped working. i uninstall everything that said apple in my pc and install them again and i keep getting this error:

"quick time Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".
The broken QuickTime is most probably causing the iTunes problem. (iTunes needs a properly functioning QuickTime in order to work correctly.)
Let's try swapping out your QuickTime again, taking a few additional explicit precautions this time.
Head into your Add/Remove programs. Uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)
    7. Restart your computer.
Next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
Go into Add/Remove and select itunes. Click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. Does it launch properly now?

  • Quicktime only works with iTunes - Please help!!!

if I have iTunes installed on my computer with the quicktime, quicktime will not work when viewing videos that are sent to me via email or on places like myspace. It is just a white screen with a Q and a ? mark. What is causing this problem? In order to view those videos I have to uninstall quicktime and then to listent to my iTunes I have to reinstall it.

Ok I've followed countless random post instructions, uninstalled and reinstalled both iTunes and Quicktime multiple times, cleaned the registry, temp files, documents and settings, program files, etc. and Quicktime 7 still crashes. What in the **** is the deal here? I have to believe that this is a problem with a straightforward solution. Quicktime used to work fine. There are only two possible problems here:
    1) Some remnant of an old Quicktime install is screwing me up. This should not be this hard to rectify, there are a finite number of places Quicktime puts files. Is there any folder I haven't checked?
    2) Some odd glitch allowed me to successfully run QT7 before but now, for whatever reason, my setup has changed in some way I'm not noticing and its now no longer working. In this case there still must be some solution since the problem is very specific: Works with directx disabled, doesn't with directx enabled.
I sincerely appreciate these forums and everyone who takes the time to read them and help users like me. Still, am I missing some place where I can get a solid official answer from Apple on this? I paid for pro, and that doesn't even get me a support email address?

I hate being the bearer of bad news, but from what I have read on the Forum and FAQ, you will need to un-install Network Magic from all of your computers making sure that no NM settings folders are left behind under users.  Then unplug all wired computers and rebuild your network by re-installing NM  in each computer before connecting it to your router.  After you have added all of your wired computers, set up your wireless network and install NM and add each wireless computer.
That is a lot of work.  I hope this helps.

  • Camera on iPhone4 doesn't work, when you use either the icon on the screen all you get the the shutter. I am unable take pictures. Has anyone had the same problem and are there any solutions?

The camera on my iPhone 4 isn't working and hasn't for quite sometime. I have updated the phone to IOS 6 and it hasn't made any difference.
When you use the icon that appears at the bottom of the screen or the camera icon on the main screen all you see is the camera shutter.I have tried to restore the camera and that hasn't made any difference. I have spoken to Apple support and they sent me a support site to check out, but there isn't any specific solution for my problem. Has anyone had a similar problem and is there a solution?

    Try:
    - Reset the iPhone. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPhone: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPhone.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

My camera broke on my Iphone, just the back part of the camera, the front one still works...anyways the back camera is just very blurry and foggy and I was wondering if there was an attachment I could buy to screw in to the top like the ones off Amazon?

    Clean the lens first.
No add on is going to "fix" a broken camera if that is the case.
The only real solution would be to take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

  • Upgrade to Lion broke iMovie 08 - iSight Camera - No camera connected - To import video, please connect a camera - error message

I recently upgraded to OSX Lion.  My MackBoo Pro is fully patched and updated.  I can launch iMovie 08 but when i try to record or import video from camera it get the error message. No Camera Connected - To import video, please connect a camera.
All my other applications work fine with iSight including iChat, Skype, PhotoBooth.  So why would a specific upgrade to Lion break iMovie 08?
I looked at the other posts on this topic and no one has a really solid explination or fix.
    help please!!

That is odd.  When logged into Discussions, the Profile tab on my personal Apple Support Communities > People page includes the following screen-shot from immediately below the big avatar picture:
Clicking on the "Edit" link opens the dialog window shown in this screen-shot:
The choices bar lets you correct your OS.  Update saves the info.
If yours does not work this way, try a different browser.  (These screen shots are made using Safari on my Mac.)
lonestarry wrote: ...  Looks like I will have to dig out my ... iLife 08 ...  I dont remember ever having an iLife disc, just the OSX disc.
If you want to fix your problem, it is time to reinstall and updated to the most current iMovie '08 version.
If you did not buy iLife '08 separately, perhaps it was included in the Software Applications disk(s) that came with your Mac.
lonestarry wrote: ... a colleague ... has the exact same issue...
Has your colleague reinstalled and updated iLife after upgrading to Lion?
I am using iMovie '11 (version 9.0.4), so I cannot test your specific version.  iMovie 9.0.4 is properly working for me after I restarted it one time.
However, depending on individual system configurations, Lion compatibility may be version dependent.  For example, this forum post contains reports of iLife '08 (and even older) working with Lion.  Moreover, as shown in this screen-shot from the roaringapps listing, it is the newer versions that may have problems:
Your version 7.1.4 should work with no trouble if all your Apple software is up to date.

  • IChat freaks the heck out when external non-iSight camera is connected.

I suspect this is not entirely a problem with iChat as I have the same issues with photobooth. I'm running leopard on a mac pro and trying to set up an external firewire video camera to use with both of those programs, but every time I open them with the camera already connected or when I connect the camera with either app already running the color wheel of death ruins my day and whichever app it is that I'm attempting to use the camera with crashes. The camera is a Canon zr40 handicam that's about 4 and a half years old, but it works fine as a webcam with my g4 powerbook running tiger. Any insights into whether this is a leopard and/or most recent version of ichat vs. older one issue, or whether it's a hardware thing would be greatly appreciated.
    danke

    Odd,
The Firewire of the Camera should be using a different controller than the Firewire 800 and the speed differences that happen when items are daisychained or using the ganged ports (400) on some towers should not be effecting things.
Anyway Glad you found a solution.
I was under the impression these cameras did not work in iChat

  • Two Quicktime Broadcasters from one DV camera

i have one DV camera source and two intel iMacs ~ i want to send the same h.264 video stream to two servers using quicktime broadcaster.
i presume you can't just turn a firewire hub around and split the signal ~ is there another way to do this?
Mac OS X (10.4.6)   DV camera, firewire, iMac, quicktime broadcaster

i presume you can't just turn a firewire hub around and split the signal
Actually you can. A Firewire hub has no "direction"; it just provides a data stream coming in any port to all the others. I haven't tried to split a camera signal for QuickTime Broadcaster, but I did once do it directly to a couple of computers with other software, just for a test, and it worked just fine.
So give it a go; you'll probably find that it will work.

  • Camera connective kit does not work with card reader

Can I only use my USB camer connective kit with my camera and not a card reader?

Which card reader? Are you using an SD card in it or some other form factor?
As long as you're targeting an SD card with photos or movies, it should work same as connecting to a camera....but in that case, there is really no need since the camera kit includes an SD reader.

  • IPhone 4 is overheating after seconds of use, brightness won't work, and front camera is frozen. Suggestions as what is wrong?

So one day my front facing camera decided to just not work. I tried the restore and everything possible, it's just frozen.
Luckily the other camera works. Last week, I woke in the morning and used my phone like normal and I noticed it was so hot. I let it sit and it cooled down and then went on my Facebook app, where not even a minute within use started to get extremely hot. My battery life has decreased significantly and my phone also gets extremely hot when charging. The weird this is that whenever I'm making a phone call, It doesn't get hot and my guess is because the screen goes dim. So i tried turning down the brightness on my phone which it became apparent that my brightness switch doesn't work either. I have tried a restore but to no avail..
The fact that my phone is getting so hot so quick really scares me.Has anyone experienced anything similar? Even though the camera not working and the battery issue happened at different times, I thought I should bring it up in case they are in fact related. Thank you all so much.

I happen to be experiencing then same problem again!
I have followed all the steps and my phone will just not come right. I love my iPhone but I have no clue what is going on sometimes it will just freeze in the camera app and I have to restart my whole phone.
I have downloaded another camera app to see if it would make any difference and it hasn't.
Should I take it back to the service provider that I have my contract with and get them to send it in to apple? Because the phone is only 3 months old.
Please Help me or advise me on what to do because I don't want to leave it and it causes more problems.

  • Importing video from hdd camera...doesn't work...help!

Hello-i am not a computer guy, first of all. i just bought an HDD video camera, panasonic SDR-H40P/PC. I have no problem importing photos to iPhoto. However, when I try to import video, the iMovie quits unexpectedly every time. my wife has the same Mac and hers does the same thing. Do I need additional software? Am I just an idiot doing something wrong? There is a page in the camera owners manual regarding Macs, but no software came with it. Our operating system is OSx 10.5.6, whatever that means.
    Any help is appreciated,
    TOm

I'm not seeing your camcorder listed among the compatible ones on this Apple list:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1014#2
There would be no Mac software with the cam. If it is going to work, it is already built into the iMovie software.
What does the manual say about use with Macs?

  • FAQ: Will Lightroom work with my camera, or Why won't my raw files open?

    What is a raw file?
A raw file is the unprocessed data that was captured by your camera sensor when you took your picture. The only settings on your camera that apply to this file are aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. This means that any effects you may have applied to the file, such as white balance or black and white, may not appear in Lightroom. Your camera will create a JPEG copy of your raw file with all current settings applied and save that within the raw file for use as a thumbnail by most applications. When you first view a raw file in Lightroom, you will see this thumbnail, then Lightroom will read the raw data and create its own thumbnail, which may have a different appearance.
How does Lightroom work with raw camera files?
Lightroom interprets the raw data and makes image information out of it. But every camera has a unique sensor and thus has a unique form of raw file. Even though camera manufactures may use the same file extension each time (e.g. Nikon raw files are always .NEF), each camera model has a different way of storing information. Because of this, we must continually update Lightroom for new cameras. As we add new cameras to the list (over 300 now) we update our published list of supported cameras.
Will the raw files from my camera work with Lightroom?
To determine whether your camera is supported by Lightroom, check this list:
    Supported cameras
Go to Help > Updates to install the latest release. You can also manually download and install Lightroom updates:
    Macintosh
    Windows
What if I own a previous version of Lightroom?
Supposing you have a camera that came out after the release of a newer version of Lightroom, so that your version of Elements is no longer recieving updates, you have two basic options:
Purchase the latest version of Lightroom that supports your camera.
Use the latest version of the free DNG Converter (for Macintosh or Windows)
You can convert your files to the universaly compatible DNG format (the files will work with any version of the Lightroom). See In depth : Digital Negative (DNG) for more information.

Can I perform tethered capture from my camera to Lightroom?
Lightroom has the ability to automatically import images from your camera, as you shoot, life. To learn more about setting up and useing tethered capture, please see Import photos from a tethered camera. This list shows all the cameras that Lightroom supports for tethered shoooting:

Will Lightroom help me automatically compensate for the image distortion caused by my camera lens?
The Develop module of Lightroom includes Lens Correction which can read what lens was used from the metadata. With this information it can pick a profile that will reduce distortion caused by the curvature of the lens. For a list of which lenses are supported by which camera bodies, see this list:
    Lens profile support | Lightroom 4, 3
If your lens is not currently supported, you have a few options:
    Apply the lens correction manually
Use the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader (Download: Mac, Win) to see if someone else has created a profile your camera and lens
Use the Adobe Lens Profile Creator (Download: Mac, Win) to make your own profile for your camera and lens.
