IChat can't communicate with the Jabber account

Got the instructions for "Configuring iChat for Google Talk" from Google at:
http://www.google.com/support/talk/bin/answer.py?answer=24076
But after adding my Gmail info. I keep getting this error message:
iChat can't communicate with the Jabber account "[email protected]"
Anybody out there come across this and solved this sucker?
THANKS

Hi,
You have entered the account info as a Jabber Name and not chosen the Google option
With iChat Open go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts
Click on the Plus Button at the bottom of the List.
In the top item in the new pane Choose GoogleTalk.
Add your ID exactly as it appears when you Log in to the Web Mail page at Google  (Mail seems to except either ending, @google.com or @gmail.com but the Google Talk server does not)
Enter in the password
Click the Done button
You should now have  Buddy List that Logs On
In the Account list in iChat you will now have at least three Accounts Listed (the faulty one, the new one and Bonjour)
If you then check the Server Setting tab/button on both the "google" accounts you will find the new one says the server in talk.google.com
The other will use the last part of your ID  (in your case you entered a name/ID ending @gmail.com).
The reason for your confusion is that those Google Instructions are for iChat 3
You have "Missed" the bit about changing the Server Name in the Server Setting tab to talk.google.com as in fact you can add it as a Jabber account and then change the server name the same way.
You could change the server info in the "old" account or you can highlight it the list then press the minus button to Delete it.
One other thing.
It is important that Talk is Enabled in your everyday Google Account Setting (Not the mail ones).
This does add the Chat option to the Mail Web page and of course allows iChat to use the GoogleTalk servers.
I have several Jabber Accounts including Google as well as several AIM valid Logins.
I don't find the Google servers go Off line or drop connections any more (Nowadays) than the AIM ones or other Jabber servers.

  • "iChat can't communicate with the jabber account, disconnected unexpectedly"

We are running a Snow Leopard server here in the office, but no one can connect to iChat with their given jabber id. I have tried manually putting the settings in, I have tried letting the computer configure them itself [through system preferences -> accounts -> login options and choosing the networked server], and I have gone through the manuals. I have gone into the server itself and made sure everything is on and functioning, but it just won't connect. I keep getting the same message. I'm guessing there's some small setting that I don't have set right, I'm just not sure what it is and don't even know where to start looking.
"iChat can't communicate with the Jabber account "[email protected]". Disconnected unexpectedly"
I've looked through the community and none of the given directions have helped.  I posted on the iChat section, but they suggested I post here. Can anyone out there help me out? We're a small design studio, so we don't have an IT person to do this for me.
    Thanks,
    Gretchen

No, I know, you always have to assume the other person knows nothing   Okay, through some finagling, I managed to save the log to the server, copy it to my computer from there, and now can copy and paste in here. This is all that was in there at this point:

  • Ichat can't communicate with my jabber account?

For the past week, I have gotten the same error message when trying to logon to my ichat account:
ichat can't communicate with the jabber account... could not connect to host.
I went into the preferences and tried a few different things but nothing worked. I returned everything to the original settings and hoped the problem would solve itself. It did not. I deleted the account and recreated it...still no help.
    What should I do??

    Hi,
In the iChat Menu,  then Preferences chose the Accounts Pane
Then chose the Server Settings tab
    Example
On this pic I have edited out the real Server name.
At the second red Arrow this account is using port 5222 and no SSL to login and Text chat.
If I was logged out of this account then that Text and Port would be Dark (Black) text and would be editable.
Some Jabber Accounts use SSL and iChat will automatically change the Jabber Port listing to 5223
    Googletalk is one of these.
If the Mac Firewall is ON (System Preferences > Security > Firewall tab) and in the Advanced Button "Allow Signed Apps" is enables and iChat is in the list then the Firewall will allow iChat to receive incoming data.
Form there your computer is connected to the Internet.
    This will involve a Modem.
If the Modem is a DSL model then it is likely to Route which is turn means you may have to set up the ports iChat needs there.  (Meaning it is a router/Modem combined)
A cable modem generally does not route and those functions are taken up by a router if you use one.
A Router whether combined or standalone is generally set up using a web browser to access the Interface web pages.
One of the Methods of opening the ports needed is called Port Forwarding  (although some devices do list other phrases such as Services)
Once these are entered they form part of a table.
Generally they list a IP address that those ports will work for.
That IP should be the IP of the computer
    Example of a Linksys page.
Sorry it is blurry but you can make out each port is pointing to IP 192.168.1.100 (although only the top two are Enabled).  The set of iChat ports listed are for iChat 2 and 3. (they will cover those used by iChat 4 and higher)
This listing of an IP restricts the use of those ports listed to that IP (Computer).
IF the router is doing DHCP to Issue IP addresses to the computers the IP that the computer has may change now and then - this will mean the ports listed will not be pointing to the Computer as it now has a different IP
Another method for opening ports is called UPnP (Universal Plug and Play)
This is simple Enable/Disable setting that allows the apps to tell the router to allow the ports it needs.
This also allows multiple computers to use the same ports.
It is fair to say that some brands of router (or Combined device) have UPnP enabled by default so you may never have had to make the settings.
Do you know if this has been done ?

I'm getting an error message saying that "iChat can't communicate with the AIM account __" I don't know what to do because google.com isn't coming up either...Please help!

    Hi,
For any AIM valid Name (AIM, @mac.com or MobileMe) go to the IChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts
Select the account in the list then in the Server Settings tab change the port from 5190 to 443
Also try it without the SSL option.
(Go to the Account info tab to select the Use this Account option to Log in).
Do you mean you have a GoogleTalk account of some kind ?
One based on Google Mail accounts (@gmail.com or @googlemail.com) should have talk.google.com listed as the server in iChat (Server Settings for your Google Account)
There are Other Google accounts (Non Email) that can have Talk Enabled and these do connect to a server called google.com
Both these forms login to the Jabber servers involved on port 5223 and use SSL
It is possible with Google though to also change this to port 443.
(Other Jabber servers will not allow it)

  • IChat can't communicate with the AIM account error window! please help!

Hello, I have been trying to connect to my AIM account via iChat and for some reason it doesn't let me. A window saying the following appears:
"iChat can't communicate with the AIM account "name of account".
"An undefined AIM socket error has occurred."
Please help with this. What is going on?

    Hi,
An @Mac.com name is a valid AOL/AIM Screen Name.
Any Issues and the AIM servers will say the AOL/AIM name or password is incorrect.
As I said earlier, there can be issues if when you create an @Mac.com or even a MobileMe account Apple lets you create passwords of up to 20 characters (I think).
The issues is the AIM Server can check the name with Apple but don't parse Passwords that have more then 16 characters (You have to change the Password to 16 characters or less).
    There is also another issue.
Creating a Name at the @Mac.com page allows you to use spaces as valid characters (As In ralph [email protected]) but again the AIM servers cannot parse these names as Spaces are not Valid at AIM
Use iForgot to check the name. You can also change passwords via this.
Use the On Line option and answer the security questions.
That should confirm whether the account/Screen Name/Apple ID works.
Then go to this page https://settings.aim.com/
Use the Sign In option top right.
Enter your @mac.com name and password (It will read AOL at the next page to do that)
If it works properly then you should be returned to the page I linked you to but it will now have your Screen Name showing above the menu area.
This will confirm that the @Mac.com name is accepted as a AIM Screen Name.
If you are still having issues, go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts
In the Account Info tab make sure you are logged out (Deselect "Use this Account")
Go to the Server settings tab
Change the port from 5190 to 443 (it may also pay to deselect SSL)
    Log back in again.
    Deleting com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist may help.
If the issue is an incorrect password you may need to delete the entry from the KeyChain (Use KeyChain Access in the Applications/Utilities folder)

  • IChat can't communicate with the Aim account

Recently, my iChat AV stopped working, displaying a message iChat can't communicate with the Aim account "xxxxxxxxx". None Time
I have been able to successfully log on with other accounts using the application.
I have tried the 443 port switch and the firewall technique.
This problem may coincide with my use of an aim importer client on facebook
I have since severed all ties between the aim account and the facebook account
I have tried using Adium and aim express but to no avail.
Aim express consistently displays the message saying that I have attempted to log on too many times and to try again, even after I restart the computer and wait half an hour.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

  • IChat can't communicate with my AIM account

Hi, every time i try go to to my ichat it automatically logs me out, and when i try to log back in, it says "iChat can't communicate with the AIM account 'aforever0203' and The AIM server has temporarily limited your account due to too much activity. Try again in a few minutes" This has been happening for days, please help!

    HI,
    Go here https://settings.aim.com/
Can you sign in there ?
This will not work for newer @me.com and @icloud.com IDs issued under iCloud ( I notice there are at least 2 Me Toos clicked)
With Apple IDs there have been issues over the last few months about accounts getting Suspended when people have travelled to foreign lands.
The "normal" fix with AIM names is to Change the Password but obviously changing the Apple Passwords cannot be seen by AIM.
In that case you need This link about Suspended accounts and you need to use the TOS General email address.
(You need to explain very carefully that you have an Apple ID and that AIM cannot see any Password Change and that they will have to reset the account manually - some support staff seem not to know that Apple have an agreement that Apple IDs are also AIM Valid Names)
If it is a plain AIM name a Password reset should correct the issue.

  • Ichat can't communicate with google talk account

hey there, I keep getting the following error from my ichat; "Ichat can't communicate with google talk account Gmail." Not sure why I am getting this. My ichat has worked fine in the past. Anyone have any idea what's going on? I've already gone into settings and deleted the ichat account and re-installed it. that didn't work...
    please and thank you!

    HI,
Did you change the password at Google and forget to do it in iChat ?
Is Talk still Enabled at your Google Account Settings ?
In re-adding the account you ar using the "right"  ending (@gmail.com or @googlemail.com) ?
    Try deleting com.apple.ichat.Jabber.com
You will need to do this in the Finder
    Use the Go Menu.
Hold th ALT key and select th Library
    Open Preferences
Find the .plist and Drag to Trash
    Restart iChat.

    Hi,
Do you mean you can not log in your AIM name in iChat ?
Change the Port in Server setting to 443.
in iChat 5 SSL has to be On first the change the port and Press Enter to "Set"
SSL can now be turned Off if your want.

  • IChat can't communicate with AIM account

iChat can't communicate with AIM account - I've looked at ALL threads and no success to troubleshooting
    Looked into this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3558055?tstart=0
I've tried changing my Port number - FAIL
I tried restarting and deleting account - FAIL
Tried creating a new account - FAIL, says there's an error
Tried going through Go > Finder > Library > Preferences to delete the com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist - FAIL, couldn't find in the folder either
Tried going through keychains and permissions - FAIL
I've had the same account for over 13 years (maybe that's why, ha!) and I did nothing to change any settings. Please help! Work depends on it!

    Hi,
If it is an AIM name (i.e. Registered at AIM) then there seems to be  a rush of Suspended Accounts recently.
Some have found that touring abroad seems to be the latest reason.
You then need to go to the Suspended Account Help Page and use the TOS General Email link.
If you have an @Mac.com name that is of course a Valid AIM Screen Name as well as an Apple ID  means that the password has to be changed at Apple.
However the AIM server cannot tell that this has been done.
One person reported recently that the person they contacted via the TOSGeneral email link did not seem to know about the agreement with Apple that AIM has and that they had to change the "Flagging" on the account at their end.
Although a "Hacking" of an AIM account is not unheard of it is rare.
The TOS General link is still the best route I know of on that score.

  • Messages can't communicate with the account "AIM." Cannot log in to AIM. General error. Try again

    Hi,
For the first time today, I've been having problems connecting to AIM using Messages. I get the "Messages can't communicate with the account "AIM." Cannot log in to AIM. General error. Try again." error. I looked at the forums here and I tried deleting my account, restarting my computer, reinstalling the account but to no avail. I've been using messages and mountain lion for a few weeks and never had a problem with connecting to AIM until now. Any help is greatly appreciated!

uncheck SSL in server settings....done deal.  Funny part is I was having the same problem...went to genius bar...they couldnt figure it out...told me to call apple support.  Did that...they told me to re install software after an hour of trying to figure it out...that didnt work either.
amazing the info you can get thru forums.!

  • I attempted to move my iTunes library so that I can share it with the other accounts on my computer. Now it won't play on any account.  How do I restore locations without losing all my songs etc?

I was following directions on a mac board on how to share my iTunes library with my kids accounts on my computer. I must have not followed the directions correctly, as now I can not listen to any music on any account including the admin.  I don't remember where I got the instructions or what I did to reverse the things that I moved.  How do I restore my ability to listen to all the music that I have without re-aquiring it?
And then how do I get it so that I can share with the other accounts on my computer?
    thanks

Without knowing what changes you made it's impossible to say what you can do to fix it, but I would suggest checking two things in the Preferences menu:  first, under the Parental Controls, make sure you haven't disabled any of the areas that won't play; second, go into the Sharing area and uncheck the "Share library on my local network" box, then go back to the main library and see if the songs will play.

  • Can't communicate with the standby IP

I can no longer communicate with the standby IP address configured on the inside interface of a secondary ASA5510. Just a couple days ago I could snmp, http, ssh, and ping it.
From the switch that is directly connected to the inside interface I'm getting unexpected results when viewing the the arp table. The switch is saying the IP address associated with the ASA's inside interface has mac address 0023.3353.bcc8 but the ASA is saying its inside interface mac address is 0023.33bb.8362
Furthermore when I issue the "sh mac address-table interface f5/46" command on the switch i see multiple macs on the interface that is connected to the inside interface of the ASA...

    Hi Bro
Maybe the 5/46 has been configured as a trunk port? Could you paste your switch and FW config here, so that everyone here can assist you.

  • I can not communicate with the FP-1000, using the serial port.

    FP-100 communication by serial port.
My problem is the communication with the interface FP-1000, I haven been using it for two month with my program application and suddenly it stopped to work. I tried to use the FieldPoint Explorer to communicate using its last configuration but it does not work. I have tried to configure again and the FieldPoint Explorer doe not find any module, also I have seen that the network and access LEDs don lit when I am trying to communicate with the FP-1000.
I have checked all connection and they are already, the FP-1000 turn on, and the status LEDs does not lit.
I guess the trouble is the RS-323 connector at the FP-1000.
Could you tell how can I solve this problem?

    Hello,
There are a number of things that you can try when you are experiencing communication problems with a FP-1000.
First, double-check that the serial port that you are using is the same one that you are specifying in FieldPoint Explorer. Try using another serial port on the host computer. Try connecting the FP-1000 to another computer.
Make sure that you have FieldPoint Explorer version 3.0.2 or later. Free upgrades are available from the web.
    I hope this helps,
    Chad Evans
