IChat can't login to jabber account

I have a jabber account setup on my ichat, it suddenly stopped working so I tried to set it up on to the adium, which works fine. The weird thing is Google and Yahoo accounts are working fine on iChat, its just the jabber account I also upgraded my OS to 1.7.3 and installed "messages" thinking maybe this'll fix the issue, but no luck.
Is there any thing I can do to fix it.
I have already tried all possible combination from the server settings in the prefrences menu to make it work.

If your company is running it's own Jabber server and you want to Add Buddies that are on another Jabber server (like GoogleTalk) then they need to have it "Federated" to other servers.
There is also this Community for Lion Server
Filter the Discussions by Collaboration Services
I normally tell people to look out for posts by Tim Harris who knows more about Server and iChat Server than I do.

If you want to change your iCloud ID or password on your phone go to Settings>iCloud and tap Delete Account, then sign back in with your updated information. Note: this only deletes the account and any synced data from your phone, not from iCloud. Provided you are signing back into the same account and not changing accounts it will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.

For info we are fellow users here on these forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
You might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
You might then need to log out of your account on your iOS device by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store (Settings > Store on iOS 5 and below) and then log back in so as to 'refresh' the account on them.
If that doesn't fix it then contact iTunes Support and see if they can/will unlock it : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

IChat can't communicate with AIM account

iChat can't communicate with AIM account - I've looked at ALL threads and no success to troubleshooting

I've tried changing my Port number - FAIL
I tried restarting and deleting account - FAIL
Tried creating a new account - FAIL, says there's an error
Tried going through Go > Finder > Library > Preferences to delete the com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist - FAIL, couldn't find in the folder either
Tried going through keychains and permissions - FAIL
I've had the same account for over 13 years (maybe that's why, ha!) and I did nothing to change any settings. Please help! Work depends on it!

If it is an AIM name (i.e. Registered at AIM) then there seems to be a rush of Suspended Accounts recently.
Some have found that touring abroad seems to be the latest reason.
You then need to go to the Suspended Account Help Page and use the TOS General Email link.
If you have an @Mac.com name that is of course a Valid AIM Screen Name as well as an Apple ID means that the password has to be changed at Apple.
However the AIM server cannot tell that this has been done.
One person reported recently that the person they contacted via the TOSGeneral email link did not seem to know about the agreement with Apple that AIM has and that they had to change the "Flagging" on the account at their end.
Although a "Hacking" of an AIM account is not unheard of it is rare.
The TOS General link is still the best route I know of on that score.

IChat can't connect to jabber

I've been using my gmail acct on my new mac for over a month now with no problems. Yesterday, all of the sudden, it won't connect to my gmail/jabber acct because it says the username and/or password are incorrect. This is not true. I tried my friend's login info and received the same response.
I am able to log into both gtalk and gmail through my browser. I've tried restarting my computer. I've deleted my jabber accounts and re-set them up. There are no firewalls set up.

Thanks for the update. So I need to download a different client that will both let me register with jabber AND communicate with it. Why didn't Apple put the registration feature into iChat? They tout it as a Jabber application.
Jabber might become more popular if it was EASY to sign up as it is with Yahoo or MSN (where you can do it on their website). But to have to download and install a new client, figure out how it works, and use it to create an account seems like a silly way to run an IM network.
Is Jabber more reliable than Yahoo? Yahoo seems to go down or get slow a lot of the time. Of course it's free so I am not complaining. I like to use open source 'stuff' and I recently came across Jabber.

How to use iChat to register a new Jabber Account

I work in an office with all Macs and we'd like to begin using iChat for intra-office messaging. Many of us already have AIM accounts, but we'd like to keep internal office communication strictly internal. We have a computer running Parallels Server and I've downloaded some different Jabber virtual appliances. The difficulty is that when I try to connect from iChat I'm continually prompted for a password.
Now, I've read that Jabber needs an account to be "registered" and several messaging clients (Psi, Adium, etc) support that registration process. What I'd like to know is either:
a) How can one use iChat to perform the Jabber account registration process?
or
b) Is there another suggested piece of software that could be used by an administrator or one individual that could complete that process so that clients could use iChat?

With the exception of the Get a iChat Screen Name button in the First pane of Add an Account ichat has no other way to Register any name.
AN MobileMe name from Apple, an AIM Name for the AIM site or a Google Name all require that you register via a web Browser on a site.
Some Other Jabber servers also allow you to do this but on the whole it needs something like Psi or AdimuX that have the Jabber Registration module.
However if you are using OX Server then the Tiger and Leopard version have an iChat Server (which is a Jabber Server) on which Accounts can be set up.

Ichat: can't change my personal account photo

Hi,
No matter how hard I try, I can't change my photo in ichat—the one that appears next to my messages. It remains a gray silhouette.
Is it not supposed to be my account image? I've customized that in system preferences to be a picture of me, but that didn't affect ichat. Other people I know have photos beside their messges, but have no idea how they got there.

Most people have of course come from older OS versions and therefore iChat.
iChat of course has Buddy Lists and you can show these in Messages if you have a Jabber or AIM ID logged in.
IF you don't, go to to the Messages Preferences and Enable the Bonjour account (this also has Buddy List)
Now go to the Window Menu and use the "Buddies" option (CMD + 1 keystrokes)
You will not have a Buddy list on view.
If it only relates to the Bonjour account it may not have any Buddies if no other Mac is on your LAN (using iChat or Messages with the Bonjour account active).
However the Buddy List should be displaying pic top right.
You can click this and navigate to various options.
Generally by default it will pick the pic from the Contacts app (Address Book in earlier OS versions) at the My Card which should hold your details.
There is a default for this as well which is System Preferences > User and Groups (Accounts in earlier versions) and your account.
However all three places can be changed independently of the others.
Alternatively you can use the Messages Menu > Change my Picture option

Can't login to my account after upgrading to Mavericks

I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro. I have had no problems up until upgrading to Mavericks. I did a complete backup using Time Machine prior upgrading. I have a 750 GB hard disk with about 70 GB of free space. This computer has been bullet proof for 5 years now.
Anyway, I tried to upgrade to Mavericks when the OS came out but was unsuccessful at that time. It just hung up halfway through the install. I decided to just restore than to waste time figuring out what happened.
Fast forward to yesterday. I decided to give it a try again. The download and install completed without any problems. However, I can not login to my machine using my account. After entering my password, I am just getting the spinning rainbow wheel or whatever it is called. Techincally, I have two accounts, one for me and one for girlfriend. She never used hers so mine has been the only one we have ever used on the computer. That account does have admin permissions and that is also the one where I started the upgrade from.
Things I have tried so far...
1) Added another admin account to try and remove unused applications just in case old programs were no longer compatible. Btw, I can successfully log into this account. This is actually the account were I am logged into currently and using Safari to document this problem.
2) Launched File Utility. I did verify disk permissions and then repair after it completed. No luck. I also did Verify Disk but that did not return any problems.
3) I also did a reinstall of Mavericks again but the same problem still exists.
Btw, I did notice when logged in as Admin to the newly created account, that the Downloads, Desktop and Movies folder under my original user account have a little icon or stop sign next to their name when viewing through Finder. Permission problem? Even if that is the case, not sure why I would not be able to login into my original account.
Any ideas? Worst case I will restore my backup and just forget about Mavericks all together. I guess if I have nothing better to do some day in the future maybe I will do a fresh install and try to restore my personal files back. However that sounds like a lot of work.

FATAL: How can I login to my account?

My e-mail address, that I used to use as a login to my Microsoft account, doesn't exist anymore. An Internet domain has been closed about a forthnight ago and so my former e-mail address is not receiving any e-mails since then.
And I can't login to my MS account. I've tried several ways to login to the account but no success so far. I always end up in a circular reference of MS web pages which keep asking me to login. There's a chance to ask for the information to be sent do different
e-mail address, but then, after a few clicks, I'll get back to the same place where I've already been.
I also called Microsoft CZ hotline but they didn't help at all.
I'd like to know what I need to do to assign different e-mail address to an existing account.
I'm completely stuck. Please, help... ;-(

Can not login after changing account short name and home directory

Hi,
I did sth rather stupid while trying a get timemachine working on my iMac 10.5.5.
I changed the short name, login shell and home directory of my account. (didn't listen to the waning that I may not be able to login if I change those information Now I can not log into my account anymore. I tried to use fileVault master password to change the password of my account, but it didn't help. Can anyone tell me how do I fix this problem?

does it list sparsebundle or sparseimage?
Another thing, when I typed in the command, it didn't take the admin (root) password, but the password of the account I was logged in got me through.
that's what it has to be. it takes the password of the user (it jhas to be an admin user) which is currently logged in.
I am wondering if I can recover the problem user's files from the sparseimage file, then copied all the files to a new user.

Snow Leopard install - can't login to my account since install

I installed Snow Leopard last night, but since then have not been able to login to my own 'account' since them, am on a test account which I setup before, when having problems. The login only goes so far, it stops at the blank background and the spinning wheel spins for ages, machine chuggs, and then that's it. It does nothing, no apps, no hard disc icon, nothing. Just the photo I have on the background. HELP??? Anyone???

Try Starting up in Safe Mode. (Be patient: Safe Boot takes longer than normal startup.)
If you can then log into your normal account successfully, it means something in that account is still causing problems, like a login item, bad preference file, etc. If you are lucky, the steps Safe Boot does to remove bad caches, etc. will fix the problem (see What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? for more about these steps) & on a normal restart everything will be OK. More likely, it won't fix it & you will need to do more troubleshooting.
For that, it would help to know what problems you were having before you created the test account.
