Ichat - cannot type into a group chat

ichat - I can no longer type into a chat group since setting up old account on new imac. I see other ppls msgs, but when i hit return after typing my msg, it disappears and never posts on the chat. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

InDesign CS3 & OSX Leopard cannot type into palettes

In InDesign CS3, I cannot type into palette boxes (e.g. to choose a typeface, find & change, the tranform palette etc etc).
It allows me to type so far, then seems to 'refresh' itself, wiping what I have typed and reverting to what was there before.
We have two iMacs (2.66GHZ Intel Core2Duo, 2GB RAM) here having the same problem!
Has anyone else experienced this, or know of a solution/workaround? It's driving us nuts!

If you disable the auto activation plugin if you are using Suitcase X1 you will most likely see the problem disappear. I would use a program call FontNuke as well to purge corrupt font cache files. Use startup sets or project sets... stinks but gets rid of the stalling/crashing.

Updated to Yosemite, safari freezes and cannot type into word

I updated to Yosemite and my Safari has been freezing, and MS word will not work, I cannot type into new documents. I can open them, I can type here (so the keyboard works), but I cannot type in word

Back up all data before proceeding.

I cannot type into Firefox.

I cannot type into Firefox. It worked fine yesterday. I noticed that it upgraded to 23.0 earlier and then 25.0 later in the day. I run it once a day for a particular website. Curiously, I can cut and paste, so I typed this in another application and then pasted it into this box. It is rather annoying that I couldn't use a different browser to report the problem.
Other applications and web browsers work just fine.
Control-V does not work. I need to use the right click menu to do the copy and paste in Firefox.
I tried running in Firefox Safe Mode and tried re-installing Firefox.

I cannot type into a form

I have a document from Veterans affairs that states it is fillable. It has the purple bar at the top and it also allows me to select from drop-down menus. However, I cannot type anything in the fillable forms. I also cannot access the Tools menu items.

Tim, if Adobe Reader 11 will run in Vista, I'd first update Reader (it runs in XP Home...I updated it on another laptop tonight, not sure about Vista).
If this fixes your difficulty, then great. Otherwise, as to downloading the PDF to your Vista system whereupon you might be able to fill out the form within the PDF (since you can't fill it out when it opens in your browser), I tested this step by forcing my IE 10 to download it rather than open it in the browser. The how-to is at http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html for IE 8 and 9. I disabled my Adobe Reader & the Adobe PDF link helper (even with my Adobe Reader version 11, IE 10).
When I disabled these two add-ons in Internet Explorer, and then pasted your link https://www.1010ez.med.va.gov/sec/vha/1010ez/Form/1010ez.pdf in the IE window, IE allowed the PDF to download to my Windows 7, 32-bit, Home Premium system, and I was able to fill out the form. Try downloading the PDF with the instructions at the Adobe link above; maybe then you can work within the form. If you still can't, at least you then might be able to print it. If you have to print it, maybe you can then scan it in order to upload it to send to the VA (a big workaround I know).
If the PDF downloads (and opens automatically after it downloads), be sure to do a "Save As" to save it where you can find it. Windows Downloader saved it to my temp file under app data, so I did a save as to My Documents for easy retrieval.
Note to Adobe: there s/b a right click copy within a post edit box so we can save our post before submitting it in case it vanishes in the process. ;-) Backup, backup, b-up!

Cannot type into firefox

Here is what I have tried...
1. Disabled all add-ons
2. F9+Windows Key
3. Help->Troubleshooting Information->Reset Firefox
4. Fresh Reinstall of Firefox
5. Malware/Virus scan
Nothing seems to work. I can type into IE or any other application except FireFox

So we have facetime and Ichat and none of them can send files to google talk or any other client?

If you'd like to make calls or transfer files through Google Talk, you need to:
Enable UDP connections to anywhere on any port; or
Enable TCP connections to anywhere on port 443.

iChat sends Files on Port 5190. It does not matter whether this is with a Text chat or not (dragging the files to the Buddy's name).
It uses the UDP protocol to do this. If you or your Buddy have used Port Triggering you are almost certainly going to have to speicfy protocols. Some device also do this on Port Forwarding.
UPnP if you have it will get around this.
With some devices that Port Forward and want you to specify Protocols you can have problems. In this case delete or disable any Port Forwarding for the TCP protocol on port 5190 and change the port in iChat > preferences > Accounts (AIM) > Server Setting tab (Near the top) to 443

I use the Dogsters/Catsters to be involve with other people and cannot get into the groups, sites or anything! Help!

It seems that the web site Dogsters/Catsters is not cooperating with me using Firefox to read and answer any of the e-mails I get from this company. I love it and wish to contact my furiends in this group. However, I can only read my e-mails and not able to respond/reply back. I can't even get into any of the sub-groups that my furs belong to. Any help would be appreciate it to combat the problem.

Thankfully the machine has come back.
I tried a couple of cmos/battery clears, with no success.
Then I took out one stick of memory, cleared the cmos and it all worked on rebooting!
I put back the memory slug, cleared cmos again and it continues to work!!

Why am I not able to type into my pdf files. Why is the cursor only appearing at he areas where there in no typing? I believe I know who's doing this, but can you fix the problem for me please?

Let's see if we can get to the bottom of this mystery! I hope it's not foul play.
You say the problem is with just one of your PDF files? What version of Acrobat/Reader are you using? If you're in Reader, you're limited to commenting/annotating the PDF (you can't edit text with Reader, so you wouldn't be able to select text that's in the PDF already).
Please let me know what program/tools you're using and we can take it from there.

Chat history & Group chats not loading

Hi, last night I was experiencing issues in a group chat where I stopped receiving messages from anyone else in the group chat and while I was able to send messages myself, I have been told that they had never successfully gotten them. The next morning, I deleted and reinstalled the app (which btw updated the software as I had updated it to the new version beforehand) but now I cannot even see the group chat or most of my other contacts in the Recent section, and also chat history and icons will not load from any of my contacts except one. This has been very frustrating and I rely on Skype very much for communication, so I would very much appreciate a response back. Also, feel free to ask me for any more information if I wasn't specific enough with anything. Thank you!

Hey friend! I've been looking on the Internet for answers on how to fix this problem and found nothing!
My skype chats on mobile have been messing up and I have deleted the Skype app and reinstalled it, still didn't do nothing.
Luckily my iPod has been fine so far with Skype and I hate having to use computer Skype. If you find any answers on how to fix this problem, please respond back!

User joining Skype group chats without permission?...

So, I have a group chat with some people on skype and then somehow this person joins our group chat without anyone knowing. Usually when other people add others, it says "+"User added User". But apparently it doesn't show it in our group chat. We are mutual friends with this person on skype, but somehow they are getting into our group chat.

Unfortunately, most of my advice is in the "hindsight is 20-20" category.
First off, I would never have purchased the peripheral accessories until the 14 day return period had expired. Second, you learned the hard way what the "14 days" really means.
Too bad you didn't do any homework, reading this and other forums and tech sites. Even word of mouth from others. That, more than anything could have steered you towards different phone choices from the get-go and I will leave that there with no further comment other than to say most of the issues you described have been discussed in this forum, ad nauseam.
Once you got into the refurbished phone exchanges, that is where things really went haywire. What someone tells you over the phone is a sketchy proposition, and when it comes down to it, it's your word against theirs.
I think Verizon tried to make it right, though. Remember, they don't make the phones. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
You stated yourself you were a satisfied Verizon customer before this. Had the first two phones performed as they should, you would still be a satisfied Verizon customer.
Doubt any of that will make you any happier, but after you went through the effort of writing such a long post, I thought I'd try.

Cannot log into iChat

No matter what I do. I cannot log into iChat. Everytime it asks me for my password. I type it in correctly. & It says inncorret. Also when i try to make a new account. It says the same thing. Someone please help me. Thank you

If you are using an @Mac.com name or an @Me.com name the password needs to be 16 characters or less to work with the AIM servers.
iCloud names (@me.com) cannot be used in iChat 5 or earlier.
(AIM cannot access the password as iChat 6 and Messages login to me.com as well that lets AIM see the password)

Has anyone found a solution to sending mail to groups in Mavericks? I've been given 2 approaches - 1 to type user name group into address and the other to go to address book and right click on group. Neither are satisfactory. Does anyone have a solution?
