IChat Client Compatibility.

I have the iChat server configured and running on my 10.5.1 (Build 9B18) server.
NAT/Ports on the firewall are configured for text/audio/video.
Server has the same FQDN on the outside of the firewall and inside the firewall.
The problem comes up that I have varying client versions in my environment.
An eMac, with 10.4.9 could not add me as a buddy on my 10.5.1 client. Kept getting accept/deny pop-up.
The 10.4.9 client could buddy with a 10.4.10.
10.4.10 could buddy with 10.5.1
My question:
What are the compatible functions between the different flavors of iChat versions?

It was solved via a post in the iChat Server thread.

  • Can't get iChat server 10.4.8 to work with iChat client on Tiger 10.4.8

    Guys/Gals
I have this problem as well - I am running 10.4.8 latest updates as of today on the ol' Powerbook G4. I am setting up the iChat Server on the Xserve we have and somehow my client would not connect - they both are on the same LAN and the firewall is disabled on the Xserve - hence no firewall issues etc.
The server starts up ok looks like:
Nov 15 11:57:55 myserver iChatServer-jabberd[6497]: 20061115T16:57:55: [notice] (-internal): initializing server
Nov 15 11:57:55 myserver iChatServer-jabberd[6497]: 20061115T16:57:55: [notice] (-internal): server started
The server log however shows the following message whenever I try to connect:
Nov 15 11:59:27 myserver iChatServer-jabberd[6497]: 20061115T16:59:27: [alert] (mio_xml.c:185): [junk after document element] XML Parsing Error:
Now I have not modified anything at the server end. Funnier is that I connect happily to Google Talk and our other Jabber server that runs on another box.
    Something awfuwwy scwewy awound hewe.
    Any clues would be appreciated.
    Thanks much

Something more to add to this:
I tried Exodus, a freeware jabber client on PC - that works ok with the server - using SSL etc. so there is nothing wrong with the server. The iChat client I have on my machine seems to be the culprit - it somehow sends a wrong message - "XML parse error" - How do I make the iChat server not use SSL so that I can see what is being sent ? Currently the packet capture (tcpdump) shows garbled message - ahem - read encrypted. The SSL option in settings shows only "Default" and it does not let me select the other option.
How do I tackle this ?

  • Multiple ichat clients behind firewall?

IS it possible to have multiple ichat clients behind a firewall? I've just bought a macbook pro and would like to purchase two more for ichat functionality. Two of these will be behind one firewall, the other across the country. I can't find any documentation other than how to configure a single ichat client.
Is it possible? It's ok if we have to purchase an xserve and run some kind of server our end - I just want it to work.

    Hi paulgami,
iChat will work behind a firewall or routing device.
With routing device the easiest method is UPnP which allows the Apps to open the ports and allows multiple computers to use the same ports.
A device that has Port Triggering can also allow multiple computers to use the same ports.
If you mean that you want the Bonjour side or even the Jabber side (in the iChat Server in OS X serve) to be in the same Network you will have to look to setting up VPNs (virtual Private Networks) to cover the distances you are talking about.
It may be just semantics but it helps if we know which bit of iChat you are talking about.
Tiger 10.4.x OS X Serve has an Jabber Server that can be used with the Jabber side of iChat (iChat 3.x)
Each computer already has the iChat Client.
There are also Public Jabber servers including Googletalk to use with the Jabber side of iChat.
The Main Buddy list obviously uses the AIM service and again this can be world wide.
iChat also has the Bonjour side. This can find any other Mac on the same network. It uses the user's Address Book to broadcast a Screen Name for the other iChat clients (separate buddy List)

  • IChat Client keeps deleting my jabber password

have Snow Leopard 10.6.5 with all updates applied. I have iChat configured to use the following services (and remember the passwords):
    -AIM
    -Google Talk
    -iChat Server at ichat.rjt.cx
It remembers all my passwords, but for some reason it keeps disconnecting and forgetting the iChat server password, even though it is saved in my keychain. The server log just shows it logging off, and then failing to log back on (invalid credentials). I have tried deleting all my iChat plists in ~/Library/Preferences/ and also deleting my login keychain completely. What can I do? This interrupts conversations when it decides I no longer need to be connected. Thanks

    Ralph,
It sound more like the password is not being save 'cos the client thinks it's not correct.
Split DNS: yes very important issue.
In a 'good' world, servers would have public IP addresses and a public domain name. ISP own most of the IPs and with it the Reverse IP records. There is a 'trust' model between ISP that they would not allow a reverse name to be applied to an IP that was not correct. Jabber servers and clients rely on the domain name in this trust model to ensure that servers and clients are talking to the real 'organisation'. Normally the 'domain name' is used in the generation of the cryptographic password that passes from client to server - this helps to ensure that the server that you are talking to is really the server for that domain. OK - problems is, not everyone has a fixed IP and a reverse DNS, so in comes the concept of split DNS; something that seems more common to the Mac Mini server market. With split DNS, you place your server onto a private IP address and use a local DNS server to make the server think it is say server.ralphjohns.com with a private IP address. So the local DNS server serves server.ralphjohns.com to resolve to private IP and the private ip to resolve to server.ralphjohns.com. This is important not just for things like iChat, but for the server itself. On the public side you have server.ralphjohns.com pointing to the public IP address of your 'router' then NAT that to the private IP address.
Bet you wish you never asked.
The reason I often ask people about them using split DNS is that by default, the iChat client is keen on using an authentication mechanism that makes use of the server name - which the iChat server uses as part of the authentication process - which will fail of the clients want to authenticate with server.ralphjohns.com and the server thinks it is not server.ralphjohns.com. I properly configured iChat server is very robust (works via firewalls, etc) and secure (mutual trust).
Like all things - there are ways round this trust process.

  • Problem connecting iChat client 10.6 (Snow Leopard) to iChat server (Lion)

    Hi guys,
I'm fairly new to the Lion server, but it's all working fine with my Lion client(s) so far
However, my wife's best friend's MacBook is still running Snow Leopard ( and she is not willing to upgrade her MacBook as of now due to severak reasons) and I'm trying to connect her iChat client from Snow Leopard to the iChat server running on my Lion server.
If I try to set up the account manually in the iChat client, I can't find an option for Mac OS X Lion server and trying a work around with the Jabber account settings didn't work either (on the server's log: credentials failed). Then, I tried to create a profile on the server and downloaded it to the Snow Leopard system, but it wasn't recognised (in System Settings, there is no Profile option ).
So, can someone please, please, please give me any idea about it or is it simply not possible to connect a an older iChat client (5.0.3, Snow Leopard) to the latest version of the iChat server (Lion) ??
Again, any idea is very appreciated!
    Many tx in advance.
    Cheers
    Kai

    Hi there,
A simple suggestion , please make sure both MacBook Pro clock and the server clock are the same meaning the hour/Min/ sec both should match. A least difference of 3 seconds is fine.
I had faced this problem in many place and only solution was to match the time and it will bind immediatly.

  • IChat Clients getting disconnected

    Hi
for some reason iChat clients on our server seem to get randomly disconnected after periods of non useage.
They don't get disconnected for the file shares though.
No they aren't set to sleep or spin down either.
Its really odd almost like ichat has been set to disconnect idle users.
    Any thoughts or explanations.

It is common for firewalls/NAT to close connections that are inactive for a period of time. Suggest you cross post this in the ichat client discussion group as well http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=139

  • Ichat client get disconnected

I have ichat client on both leopard and tiger and they all get disconnected at some point in the day, all pretty much at the same time. I'm thinking it's either the server that disconnects everybody or there is some time limit from the client side, I don't know. I have the standard server configuration, everybody has a static IP from our provider, no extra firewall but the one provided by the system, no gateway on the server either and the server is running it's ichat server I think with the kerberos authentication. Can I change that with the standard install and set it to name and password? In documentation, it says that kerberos gives a ticket for a period of time, how long? Can I tell it to be unlimited? All macs are always on, they don't go to sleep because of backups during the night. On my computer, I quit ichat with a script loaded in ical, at 7pm, and relauch it at 8 am, but I too, get disconnected around 10am. So I'm not sure that the time limit is the issue either.
Anybody else having this problem with Leopard server 10.5.2?
    Jeff

I am having a similar issue, could you check your ichat log and see if you see any messages similar to the one's I am getting?

  • Ora 10g client compatibility

Accessing Oracle 8.1.7.3 databases with a 10.1. Client produces an ORA-03134 error - access to a server version not supported any more.
Where can I find which versions are supported - the documentation that comes with the client says nothing about it.

  • Instant client - compatibility

I'd like to try the OCI thick-client option to get around some irritations I've encountered with the thin client (cancelling queries, large data sets). So far I've not found a version that works. The only advice I've found is to use a more recent version than my DB, and to use 64 bit as I'm on a 64 bit machine. I've tried 4 different instant client installs, including the most recent (11.2.0.3.0) and I don't have time to try them all. The highest version caused SQL Dev to crash completely! With lower versions I get:
An error was encountered performing the requested operation: oracle.jdbc.driver.T2CConnection.getLibraryVersionNumber()I Vendor code 0
Could someone point me to a matrix of tested/supported versions?
My SQL Dev version: 3.2.20.09, Database versions vary between 9i and 10g

I do suspect yours is not a problem of compatibility between SQLDeveloper and instant client, but with the ojdbc6.jar file shipped with SQLDeveloper and the instant client.
You should try to set an ORACLE_HOME variable pointing to your most recent instant client installation, this way SQLDeveloper should be able to pick up the correct ojdbc6.jar shipped with your instant client of choice.
You can check the currently selected ojdbc6.jar by lookin at the property
    jdbc.libraryin
Help -> About -> PropertiesObviously the instant client you point to should be of the same "bit level" of the SQLDeveloper installation as Jeff already pointed out.

  • IChat 2.1 and iChat 3 compatibility issues?

I have a friend who is oversees that I am trying to voice chat and/or video chat with. We can text chat but when trying either voice or video we get connection errors.
What I'm curious about is I have iChat 3 and he has 2.1. Are there issues where we can't use the av features unless he upgrades? That would be a simple solution albeit a costly one for him.
    More Info:
In trying to rule out the cause of the issue we have tried skype and voice is great with that - we involved a third friend and she had the same issues with him and I had no problem using the voice chait with her and she is across the world as well. She happens to have iChat 3 so that is what was making me want to pose the compatibility question.
    TIA

    Hello Seth,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There is no problem connecting iChat AV 2.1 with iChat AV 3.0.1 provided both Macs are healthy and both ends of the connection meet the respective requirements of their iChat AV versions. I video with iChat AV 2.1 users almost every day.
Skype uses fewer and different ports than iChat AV, and Skype does not offer video, so it can be simpler to connect if you do not need iChat AV's additional features.
You have a good start on testing iChat AV, but both of you should test with several others to determine which end of the connection is causing the problem. At this point, it sounds like the problem

be at your Buddy's end, but I would suggest testing with more people to increase your certainty. If you do not have several buddies, you can find others willing to test in the Want to Test your iSight With Another Person? FAQ.
Other trouble shooting suggestions for Tiger users can be found in Help for iChat AV 3 Problems.
Your iChat AV 2.1 buddy (and perhaps you, too,) may be interested in the suggestions in Using iSight with iChat AV. Even if he does not use iSight, he may find some helpful ideas there.
Once you identify the problem that is causing your symptom, you will likely find your answers in the iChat AV Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ). If not, we will be happy to try to offer more specific suggestions once you can identify a more specific problem.

  • Essbase 6.1.4 Client compatibility with Win-Server 2008.

    Hi Friends,
I am looking to install Hyperion Essbase 6.1.4 Client Version on Windows Server 2008.
Can you please let me know if this version is compatible with the Windows Server 2008?
    TIA,
    KRIS

In addition to Nathan's comments this would be a platform that Oracle hasn't regression tested. So even if it were to appear to work if you encountered an issue Oracle would be justified and asking you to re-create the same issue on a supported platform.
In my opinion if this is a production application this is a risk you should not take.
If you are playing with an internal environment and want to learn more about Win2K8 that's one thing. Realizing most folks will give you the "It's not supported line" when you start asking why EPMA, FDM, and HFM do not work with IIS 7.x

  • Poll:  Oracle 9i (backward "CLIENT" compatibility)

I am just curious how many people upgraded their Oracle DB to 9i and upgraded their client box also? If yes, please state your experience
    1. Good (explain)
    2. Bad (explain)
    3. Ugly (explain)
We have 100s of server running various version of clients (but mostly 8.1.6 or 8.1.7.x). We are almost finishing up upgrading most of our database to 9.2.0.2. Should I prepare to upgrade those clients as well? Any downside, upside? I am just trying to figure out how much priority did you give when you upgraded your database. Most of the application server has client installed and usually ODBC or OLEDB type connection to backend database in our case.
I am just curious as we will upgrade soon or later, but like to see what is general experience.

  • BPC client compatibility

    Hi all,
I have few questions regarding BPC for NW. I would appreciate if someone can clarify them for me.
1-  Where can I find the sp level of BPC .Net component. (is it from server manager System Information. I can see .06 there. does that mean sp06?)
2- If I want to patch BPC ABAP component from from sp06 to the latest patch. Do I also have to patch .net component to the same level? And also do i also have to patch BPC client to the same level ?
3- Can i patch BPC client to the higher level than that of BPC ABAP component ????
    Regards,
    Rizwan.

    Hi,
    Yes, that would mean SP06.
Usually, if you are applying a patch, all the components should be on the same patch level. However, there are few patches which are applicable only to the clients. This means that the the patch level will be different from the .NET server, in this instance. In all the other cases, you should apply the same patch level to all the components.
    Hope this helps.

  • Lion Ichat client issues with logging into SL Ichat server

We run the iChat server on our OD master running 10.6.8. We have about 250 users and it's working great for everyone on Leopard or SL (the majority of our users).
We just started upgrading people to Lion, as well as getting some new lion machines.  The people who are on Lion Pre-Configured machines seem ok, but the people who we upgrade are having issues with logging into it.  Sometimes it will work just fine, and other times they just can't log in.  They get the ~ symbol by their status and can't connect to the server.
The only fix seems to be trashing their prefs AND rebooting, just trashing them or just rebooting don't seem to be enough to fix this. Anyone seen or have a better fix for this? It has happened more than once for the same user.
