IChat connected but remains off-line to buddies

Hi,experienced new problem today: My dad could not connect to my aunt both in Holland. She appeared to be off-line. Connection between my dad and myself in UK normal (audio and video). I checked with my aunt by phone, tried switching to port 443 instead of 5190 and deleted iChat plist without success. I could hear the tone on her computer confirming log on with iChat and my aunt tells me she has a green dot. She has remained greyed-out to me and my dad for the whole day. She has also tried restart both computer and modem.

Was she an Active Buddy before ?
Check iChat > Preferences > Accounts section > Security.
Set the Allow to Allow All if it is something else.
Change it to something else if at Allow All then change it back
Get her to do the same.

I lost my iPad 3days ago. I tried to use ”find my iPad” but always”off line”Idon't understand why always”off line” and  how Ican get back my iPad!

    Two possibilities:
    1. Maybe it's not turned on.
    2. Maybe the iPad is wiped (setup as new)

  • Web Gallery dissapears on my Iphoto but remains on line

It is maybe a settings issue but some web galleries dissapear from my i-photo although they are still showing on line. and I can not add/remove photos from those libraries.

I can not add/remove photos from those libraries
First what version of iPhoto are you using? The latest is 7.1.2 and it had fixed many Gallery issues - if you have not updated you should do that first
a couple of things to look at
when you say the Galleries disappear I assume that you mean that they no longer appears in your source list (the left hand sidebar in the iPhoto window)
If they are not there look in preferences under gallery and see it they are there
If not then you can delete them via the finder - finder --web ==> sites ==> _gallery and drag the gallery(s) you want to delete to the trash and empty trash
If the galleries are complicated (not just a single album or event) you may want to print a list of the photo in the web gallery to make reproducing it easier. I generally make an album for my gallery then create the gallery from that album both as back up and to keep me from doing lots of editing while it is published - That can be slow and (used to I think now) sometimes create duplicates and other problems

  • How do I connect to computers that are being used in the lab, but have no address listed on the "all computers" screen and say "off line" while they are being used?

Thanks for any help I can get.  I'm the new guy here at school, and did not set up the system, so I'm not familiar with any of the individual steps for correcting problems.  My question is listed in the window up top.
    Jim

Thanks for the response. I tried to find out what you asked.  For example:
    1. Computer #35 is listed on the "all computers" screen but says "access denied", "not authorized",  right click for " get info" has no administrators listed, and I don't know how to add my computer as one.
    2.  "Scanner" screen # 35 is not listed either in "Bonjour", or "Local Network" (ethernet interface)
    3.  "Scanner 2" screen - same.
    4.  "Scanner 3" screen - same.
    5.  "Computer Lab" screen #35 is listed, but says "off line", "access denied"
I hope this gives us somewhere to start and go from there.  Thanks.

  • IChat turns on and off frequently

I can login to iChat fine and talk to friends, but about 3-5 minutes later iChat disconnects and goes off-line. My internet doesn't seem to be going down though because I have other widgets open that don't stop working and I can view websites fine. It just seems to be iChat. I use a cable modem and am connected with a Belkin router.
    Any ideas?

I'm connected through a Belkin router and the internet works fine and seems very fast, but after about 5 minutes I lose connection through iChat. It tell me that I was disconnected from the server. The weird thing is that I still have full signal strength to the internet. The problem is only with iChat.
Ive tried everything now. I even had the geek squad come out and we thought we fixed it but as soon as they left I lost the connection again.
I have road runner cable. Could that be the problem?

  • Google mail off line

I have 4 Google and 3 SBC accounts in apple mail.
All of a sudden Google accounts are going off line- the triangle appears.
I try going back on line - no response.
When I quite mail and then reboot the Gmail mail has loaded, but still off line.
I also lost all the email from one Gmail account.
Any one having this problem also.

Gmail is a web mail service, it can't be accessed when you're not on the internet or the "web".

  • I can't print wirelessly using Airport Express.  I have my HP printer connected to a USB hub, and the hub to the Airport Express, but when I select the HP from the printer list, my MacBook says the printer is "off-line" - even when it is not.

I can't print wirelessly using Airport Express.  I have my HP printer connected to a USB hub, and the hub to the Airport Express, but when I select the HP from the printer list, my MacBook says the printer is "off-line" - even when it is not.  I've tried several USB connectors, and several different ports on my USB hub; same result.  I need to have the HP connected to the hub 'cause from there it's connected to our desktop Mac.

    Hi,
I am currently replying to this as it shows in the iChat Community.
I have asked the Hosts to move it to Snow Leopard  (you should not lose contact with it through any email links you get)
I also don't do Wirelss printing so I can't actaully help either.

  • IChat connects to Apple test server but no one else for A/V

I've been trying to get iChat working with 2 other people who've both managed to to successfully talk to others through iChat A/V. I was told by Apple's support line that if I could connect to Appleu3test01 successfully, then it had to be the other users, as things on my end were ok. I can connect to that, as can the other users, but I can't connect to them at all, not if they ping me, or I try them. (or anyone else as far as I know) So does anyone have any ideas? I have a "CPE Modem" from Paradyne, model number 02-00100-01 there is no router connected, and I am using DSL that runs at around 768k
ANY advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Ok,
    Ummm Where to start.
In the Beginning .... (nope to far back)
There was the bloke, Babbage.... (Still too far...)
Ok the internet and you computer have what are called Ports.
Different sorts of data can be put on different ports even though it is effectively over one connection.
There are 65535 ports in all (+ whether you count 0).
Since the internet came about some of these ports were more commonally used before everyone got worried about Security.
So some ports are always open on most devices and not subject to the "features" that involve other ports. These ports are below the 1024 threshold and that includes the ones the mail apps use and web browsing.
Because of the way these ports are allowed you can almost though different Network devices such as modem and several routers together and those ports will work - Hence the phrase "I can get on the internet" is almost meaningless.
In Terms of what doe iChat 4 use we have to start with a iChat 3 Apple Doc
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208 Don't worry about how this page actually looks, There is a table at the bottom of this page http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/pantherports.html (It shoes 10.3.x firewall setting as well as Tiger 10.4.x firewall as well)
Then we have to look at an iChat 4 Apple Doc
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306688
This points to the changes in the port iChat now uses for the Video or Audio part of the chat.
So iChat 4 has the same Jabber ports (TCP 5220, 5222, 5223)
The same Bonjour Ports (5297, 5298, 5353 on UDP and 5298 on TCP)
The same A/V invite port (5678 on UDP)
iChat 3 at this point uses port 5060 on UDP then moves to 4 ports from the group of twenty (16384-16403) (If busy it move 4 ports UP the group)
iChat 4 does not use port 5060 but uses the 16402 AND then send the Video and Audio down the same port as well. If this is not available it moves DOWN one port at a time.
Some ISPs do block port 5060 (And the other SIP/VoIP port 5060-5063)
iChat 4 should get around this issue.
As to opening them in a router or modem - that depends on the features your device(s) have, how you want or have them linked together, the security you want and how many computers you have.
This site http://portforward.com/routers.htm list many device that can route.
Clicking on your will take you a page about applications that need ports open.
That page (using iChat) will take you to a page that will give you the Default access information (IP, User ID and Password). (It goes on to tell you how to Port Forward but don't worry about this now.
Once you have accessed your device check every single menu to see if you have UPnP and if it is active.
At this point come back and tell us which devices you have, which are doing DHCP, if you found UPnP and how many computers you have ?

  • I have two airport extremes, one acting as amodem and the other operating in bridge mode.  The extremes are connected using ethernet, but remain connected even when I disconnect the Cat5a cable. How do I know if they are operating wired or wirelessly

I have two airport extremes, one acting as a modem and the other operating in bridge mode.  The extremes are connected using ethernet, but remain connected even when I disconnect the Cat5a cable (I did this to check that the 100 feet of Cat 5a cable connecting them was working). How do I find out if they are operating wired or wirelessly?  I want to know as I assume I will get much better speeds if they are wired.

Hi Bob, many thanks for the prompt response.  I think I did what you suggested, but you're the expert so I have sent over a few screenshots.  The extreme in question is High Birches Home Office (the rest of the network has been in place and working well for some time).  My new home office is going to be in the garden, circa 100 feet from the main house.  I have installed armoured Cat5e cable down to the shed that is going to be adjacent to the home office once built and situated the High Birches Home Office Airport Extreme there temporarily.  Everything works well, so I was surprised when I unplugged the ethernet, that it still worked.  I also tested the ethernet cable by switching off my laptop's wifi and unplugging the cable from the airport extreme and directly into the laptop and that worked ok.
If the screenshots below (I did every Airport utility tab for the High Birches Home Office) don't tell you anything more, then the set-by-step instructions would greatly appreciated so I can ensure I completed the steps correctly.
    Many
    Thanks, Greg.

  • HT204053 I have IMac OSX6.8 and have just purchased a iPod Touch. When I enter my Apple ID and PaswordI get "Verification Failed.  The internet connection appears to be off line"  My internet connection via my livebox is not off line so why cant I connect

I have purchased new iPod Touch from Uk for english use in France. When trying to set up and log into iCloud i get "Verification Failed.  The Internet connection appears to be off line."   My internet is on line via my Livebox so what am I doing wrong?

Have you gone into Settings to verify that your ipod is connected to some router?  Have you logged in with the security code (if there is one defined for that router)?  If it says the internet connection is offline, then the ipod is not properly connecting to the internet.  Perhaps the router is the problem - new iDevices require routers have the latest firmware.  Older appliances might connect through them, but many users have found that their routers don't work with newer devices.
Try doing this again at some public wifi area as a test.

we have lost an ipod touch over xmas, ive tried find my phone but it wont work as its run out of batterey and is off line . is there anything else i can do?

    Not really
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
