IChat Connection Alert Message

Every time I try to login to my iChat, while it's trying to connect I get a message that says: "Lost connection with AIM - the connection to the host was unexpectedly lost". My computer has full internet connection. Also, I downloaded AOL Instant Messenger from aol.com and that works fine, but I would like to use iChat and I don't know how to fix it. Any help would be great. Thanks!!!

Hi
Try logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190.
Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
Set the port to 443.
Log back in again.

  • "iChat Connection Alert" - Quits immediately upon startup

    Hello all,
    I have a strange problem. Whenever I start iChat, it opens up, logs in for a split second, and then disconnects. I get a resulting error box saying:
    "iChat Connection Alert - Lost Connection with AIM, the connection to the host was unexpectedly lost."
    It used to work fine before but now the reliability has been getting spottier and spottier to the point where I can't even log-in at all anymore after multiple attempts. Strangely, I can log in to my screenname just fine through Adium.
    This is what came up when I opened it through Terminal:

    Hi
    First have you set the Quicktime streaming setting, goto sys prefs/quicktime/streaming/streaming speed, set to 1.5mbps(dont use automatic)
    In ichats prefs click on video and change bandwidth limit to NONE.
    Restart iChat.
    And try logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190.
    Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
    Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
    Set the port to 443.
    Log back in again.

  • Ichat connection alert. disconnected unexpectedly

    Hello,
    first post here...
    i've added my open directory through directory utility..
    it proposed to auto configure my ichat which i allowed.. after logging back in it showed that it didn't set ichat up as it said it would..
    so i added my account as such:
    [email protected]
    pass
    after trying to go online i get a popup as such:
    iChat Connection Alert
    ([email protected])
    Disconnected unexpectedly
    after trying to troubleshoot.. i decided to test my account on the server itself.. and the same error occurred!
    i've got into admin tools and made sure that this account is allowed to use the IChat service...
    anything i may have skipped?
    any advice would be appreciated..

    Are you talking about iChat server? if try the iChat server forum.

  • IChat connection alert - Connection already exists fr yr computer's IP add

    I'm having a couple of problems connecting to anyone on iChat (which I have been able to successfully use in the past). First is the above error message ... can you help me?
    Before that message started appearing, I simply was not seeing any buddies listed in my buddy list. (But they used to be there!)
    And before the buddies all disappeared, I did have them there on the list but before that, they were all in grey (or with a circle and red line through them)
    I guess i've been messing around w/a lot of settings to try to get this to work. Some advice would be very helpful!!

    Hi,
    The AIM System Message can be answered with a "1" or a "2"
    1 cancels what AIM thinks is your First login.
    this could be another AIM capable application on this or another computer that has not been logged out. (it can also be your Screen name is logged in on another computer behind a routing device)
    The message can be a little different if you are logged in at another location like work.
    2 cancels the computer you are on.
    iChat can be set to Allow Multiple Logins in iChat > Preferences > Accounts and after selecting the Screen name in the list on the Left make sure Account Info is the current tab and use the "Allow Multiple Logins" Check box.

  • IChat Connection Alert - Internet Works Fine!

    I've searched high and low for a solution to this problem!
    I'm running Mac OS X v. 10.4.8.
    Anyways, my problem is that each time I try to logon to iChat it drops the connection after about 15 seconds of 'Connecting...' and gives me this message:
    "The connection could not be completed, because it timed out."
    My internet works perfectly fine! Absolutely no problems whatsoever.
    I changed my port number to 443, and still no luck.
    Please help! Any advice will be much appreciated!
    I've made an appointment at the Apple Store tomorrow, but I really would prefer to cancel it if at all possible.
    Thanks!

    SO the questions are the same as you have not told us anything
    Hi,
    Are you also connected by Ethernet ?
    If Leopard turn Off Internet Sharing.
    If Leopard or Tiger and you have Parallels then make sure it gets it's own IP

  • IChat Connection Alert

    When I attempted to sign on to my AIM iChat account (the first time since I restored my computer) it succeeds (after a 30 second attempt) and then immediately kicks me off, prompting: "Lost connection with AIM: The connection to the host was unexpectedly lost." Any ideas?

  • IChat Connection Alert says: Could not connect to AIM

    Error continues: Your screen name has been suspended and cannot be used to log in.'
    But I can log in to AIM (SM) with the same login name, so you would think if it was suspended i wouldnt be able to use it on the AIM application either? Is this just an Ichat issue?
    I have restarted and still doesnt work. I may have used AIM like 3 years ago, but not recently, so i dont know why it would be suspended. Also, I added an AIM address in my address book but it doesnt have a link, it is just black text.
    thanks

    Hi ekr,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussion Pages.
    I think you are saying that a name you use in iChat does not seem to log in when using iChat but does when you use the AIM standalone application.
    Adding a Screen name, whether it is an @mac or AIM name, to the AIM spot on your Me Card in the Address Book will only show as Text. It will not be a link to anywhere.
    Try deleting com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist from /Users/(your account)/Library/Preferences and restarting iChat.
    You may have to go through the Start Up Screens again.

  • IChat connection problems and no preferences to change

    I have been receiving the "ichat connection alert" for the past three days. I researched it and the most common advice is to try logging into AIM from port 443 rather than port 5190. My problem is that when I go to ichat preferences the only thing I see is the A/V options. I do not see any other tabs. How can I get all the preferences options back?? This is an emergency since I use ichat to communicate with my clients.
    Any help is appreciated!!!

    Thanks for your reply.
    I went to preferences but did not see com.apple.ichat.plist. I searched my computer and found a couple of them in I'm guess old restore files(just a guess) and deleted those and restarted. No help. I opened ichat, but my contacts are not showing online when I know they are and I still only see the A/V menu in my preferences. Then after a minute ichat start disconnecting and connecting very rapidly. I just have to close it. Feel like I'm going crazy!

    Hi,
    My name is Norbert. I am having some difficulties restoring my icloud back up. My ipad was doing an icloud back up and the alert message displayed on the ipad after my internet was interrupted "A wi-fi connection is required to download your apps and media".

    Please can anyone with a similar experience tell me what to do in this situation?
    Thank you

    Have you tried a hard restart. Press the on/off button and homescreen buttons together until the device shuts down.

  • Jabber server New alert message

    I have been using a jabber server to access my MSN account and it has worked pretty good for several months. only issues, is sometimes it shuts off with no warning or once a got an alert message in another language. when i replied in english, there was no return message, and then the server kicked me off and went off line for a while.
    This morning i logged in to my iChat and started getting a message from the server (msn.netlab.cz). the messages read: "Your MSN account has been logged in elsewhere. Please logout at the other location and then reactivate the MSN transport." This message keeps coming up every 3 or 5 minutes.
    no i know i am not logged in anywhere else, but i shut it off on iChat and logged into MSN messenger anyways. i could log in with no problems, so i assume i am not logged in.
    Has anyone heard of this message coming up as a false error or is it possible someone is logged in under my msn account? I do not give out passwords so i don't see how.

    Hi GIlbert,
    I haven't heard of that message before, but you're right, that would be annoying happening so often! It is possible that someone hacked into your MSN account by guessing the password (which it never hurts to change a password every so often just in case). I'm not saying that's exactly what happened though.
    The other situation could be that you logged on via another IP address somehow (through an open wireless connection?) and never properly closed out the connection. So the server would still see you online, even though you're really not.
    There are a few Google results on the subject though. Maybe this thread will help you out or shed some light on the issue?
    Good luck!

  • Alert messages from Notification Center hang after using close button

    After opening my MacBook in the morning, Notification Center displays the alerts from my Calender (I realy like this new feature!).
    Problem
    When I click the Close Button on an Alert Message the Alert Message does not close but stops responding and stays displayed.
    The only way to get rid of it is to logout and login to OSX.
    Does anyone have the same problem?
    I am looking for a solution.
    All suggestions are welcome!
    Thanks,
      Chris

    Hi,
    Uploaded with Skitch!
    As you can see the System Preferences > Notification Pane talks about "Alerts" in a general way first
    Then it offers options on how the Notifications are displayed.
    I was presuming you were talking about the Notifications in the same general way and I was asking which option you were using
    Since my first post in this thread I have changes my Mail Notifications to Alerts (It seems to be the one with more issue)
    It does hang around until I deal with it
    It then send me to Mail but the Incoming mail item(s) is(are) no longer marked  as unread.
    This makes it a little difficult to check the generic Inbox rthat has five Accounts set up.
    I am not getting a spinning beach Ball and the Alert Style Notification goes away.

    I agree w 936671, do this in PL/SQL. Much, much easier.
    However, I will recommend a different approach using PL/SQL.
    1) Create a package to send the emails. Sample code:
    create or replace package cust_fnd_utilities as
    procedure send_email(     p_sender     in     varchar2,
                   p_recipient      in      varchar2,
                   p_subject     in     varchar2,
                   p_message     in     varchar2);
    end cust_fnd_utilities;
    create or replace package body cust_fnd_utilities as
    procedure send_email(     p_sender     in     varchar2,
                   p_recipient      in      varchar2,
                   p_subject     in     varchar2,
                   p_message     in     varchar2)
    is
    v_mail_host     varchar2(30);
    v_crlf      constant varchar2(2):= chr(13)||chr(10);
    v_message     varchar2(10000);
    v_mail_conn     utl_smtp.connection;
    begin
    v_mail_host := 'localhost';
    v_mail_conn := utl_smtp.open_connection(v_mail_host, 25);
    v_message :=      'Date: ' ||
         to_char(sysdate, 'dd Mon yy hh24:mi:ss') || v_crlf ||
         'From: <'|| p_sender ||'>' || v_crlf ||
         'Subject: '|| p_subject || v_crlf ||
         'To: '||p_recipient || v_crlf || '' || v_crlf || p_message;
    utl_smtp.ehlo(v_mail_conn, v_mail_host);
    utl_smtp.mail(v_mail_conn, p_sender);
    utl_smtp.rcpt(v_mail_conn, p_recipient);
    utl_smtp.data(v_mail_conn, v_message);
    utl_smtp.quit(v_mail_conn);

    when others then
         utl_smtp.close_connection(v_mail_conn);
    end send_email;
    end cust_fnd_utilities;
    2) Build the email, then call the package from step #1. Sample code:

    create or replace package body cust_fnd_monitoring as
    procedure profile_options_build_email (     p_errbuf     out     varchar2,

                             p_sender     in     varchar2,
