Ichat corrupted from Apple Security Update

I was recently prompted and installed the Security Update 2008-003 on my 10.4.11 ibook G4. Ichat was working fine until this patch was installed. now it opens then locks up then closes itself. On my original install discs, I can choose from a list of programs to install (iphoto, quicken, etc) but Ichat is not listed. Please help!

HI Mark and welcome to Apple Discussions ...
Try this... get Pacifist located here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12743
Download and install Pacifist. Then follow these instructions:
Open Pacifist
Put the first 10.2 disc in
Choose Open Apple Install Packages
When it loads all the Packages, open 'Contents of Essential.pkg
Open the Application folder
You'll see iChat.app
Click on it to highlight
Click the 'Extract to icon at top of window and extract to your desktop
See if that does the trick... actually I have an iBookG4 and iChat is located in the 1 out of 5 disk.

  • Apple Logic Pro Crashing after Apple Security update

Everytime I try to open up a Logic Project in my 3.0 Ghz Mac Pro Logic will not open and just crashes. This started happening after I updated with the new Apple Security update. Most of the Logic Projects were done when I had the 2.5 Ghz Quad. Not sure if it was the Security update or using the intel mac to open older projects.
My current set-up Apple Mac 3.0 Ghz Xeon chip Configuation. 3 gb of memory.
Any help on this would be a great. I have a performance in three weeks and have to get this sorted out before hand so I can master my instrumentals.
    Steve

I have the Mac Intel 3.0 as well, and it's working pretty well. I do open up Logic tracks that were created on a G5, with only one big problem, all of the program change boxes become checked. Also, the old environments can cause problems.
I notice your profile says you're running system 10.4.6. If so, you should upgrade to at least 10.4.8. Trashing your preferences is also good, as is repairing permissions. 3 Gig of memory should be fine until you go nuts with plugins.
I've upgraded to 10.4.9, but you have to download the combo install from the Apple web site. The incremental upgrades create problems.
After you've upgraded Logic, try opening up a blank Autoload. If that opens, then the program is working, at least that far. You might have to rebuild your Environment from scratch. No fun, but it will eliminate problems from earlier sequences. Good luck.

  • Action: Apple Security Update / Reaction: System Won't Boot!

Does anyone have an opinion/suggestion about this?
Ever since a failed Security Update, my computer will not boot. I did post my question and listed troubleshooting in a separate post.
    Previous Post
I searched and did every suggestion I could find. I can browse my files in Terminal and in disk utility, so my hard drive is spinning, and although I don't dispute the fact that my hard drive could be on its way out (my iMac is 3yrs old), if it was done, I wouldn't be able to see these files.
My question is what is going on with these security updates? Through my searches it is always the same story in that this happens after a failed (and sometimes successful) Security Update. I have also seen the suggestion to restart the computer BEFORE installing the updates, which I should have known and is a great idea, but if this is such a big problem, why doesn't the security update prompt you to restart the computer first?
I am obviously frustrated with this situation. I have backed up my info, so I am not too worried about that, but this issue with the Security Updates seems to happen to a lot of people, and unfortunately, most of them go out and buy new hard drives because some unknowledgeable (or lazy) techie said that their hard drive crashed. There has to be a reason for this. The Security Updates are somehow corrupting files, and I refuse to believe that the only solution to this problem is to either buy a new hard drive or an archive and install the OS. Am I wrong about this? There are enough of us that have this very same issue, to which we deserve a viable solution and not some inevitably useless key strokes during startup.
In my opinion this has everything to do with the Apple Security Update and if it is so important that we, as users, restart our machine before installing these updates, then this should be mentioned or prompted by the Security Update. Apple has dropped the ball with this one. I will continue to search for a solution and will probably end up doing an archive and install. Don't get me wrong, I love my iMac, and for the most part I find the service top notch. It just frustrates me that my problem is not an isolated one, and yet there aren't any feasible solutions.
If anyone has any suggestions and/or comments, I would appreciate all of them.
    Thank You.

  • Errors after installing Apple security update

I installed the Apple security update released on May 11
(SecUpd2006-003Pan.dmg) last week and started having trouble with
Dreamweaver. I am currently running Mac OS 10.3.9
I receive the following errors when launching the app:
While executing onLoad in Design Notes_onOpen.htm, a
    JavaScript error occured.
The following translators were not loaded due to errors:
ASP.htm: has configuration information that is invalid.
When trying to save a file, I get the following errors and
    the file does not save:
While executing onLoad in _beforeSave.htm, the following
JavaScript error(s) occurred: In file _beforeSave: ReferenceError:
    beforeSave is not defined.
While executing onLoad in Design Notes_onOpen.htm, a
    JavaScript error occured.
If I close the file, it will prompt me to save the file and I
get those same errors, but it does save the file before closing it.
I installed the Dreamweaver 8.0.2 updater just to make sure I
had my application up-to-date, but am still getting the
    errors.

Kmattingly, welcome, it is a good idea to always Repair Permissions before and after each upgrade. Bootup from the install CD (C key held down) and once the disk mounts (X window) open Disk Utility from the Main Menu under Installer. Choose your drive in the left column then select First Aid, now run the Repair, if it does not repair run it again. Now select the startup volume (with the OS) and run the Repair Permissions, quit Disk Utility.
Now go back up to the Main Menu under Install/Change Startup Disk and select your startup volume then Restart.

  • HT1222 The Safari update (Dec 3) is still listed on the Apple security updates page.

The Safari update (Dec 3) is still listed on the Apple security updates page, but is not actually available.  How will we know when this issue is resolved if Apple does not keep this page current?

Actually that doesn't tell you what the packages are, it just says OS X Security Update as a single item.
It then offers a link for more information which brings us to this page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222
The page is very poorly designed.  This is what I'm posting about.
I'm seeing Windows Vista updates, Apple TV,  Leopard, Lion.  Things from 2008.
It would be a trivial matter to instead link directly to the this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5130
that's the actual thing being installed, that's what I want to see.
I mean they might as well just link here: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Security+Update+2012-001
LOL, that didn't even work.  Google search for the specific package results in:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1489
which links back to the HT1222 page which is the list of EVERYTHING.
    > If you want more control, there is a unix softwareupdate utility you can use.
Not for these updates.  I can update Dovecot or Apache, but these updates are for core Mac services and tweaks like this:
Apache disabled the 'empty fragment' countermeasure which prevented these attacks. This issue is addressed by providing a configuration parameter to control the countermeasure and enabling it by default.

  • Ever Since the Last Apple Security Update...

i loaded the last Apple Security Update on 06/02, and since then i have had OSX quit unexpectedly (twice) and have had FireFox quit as well. i have also had the cursor freeze and have had to force quit and restart my machine. My machine also seems to run a little hotter lately and i have not heard the fan come on for quit some time-- all of this since i downloaded the last update.
Has anyone else seen this in their machine? is this a sign of a coming apocalypse?
    Anybody? Bueller?
    Thanks for any helpful tips...

    Nancy:
If you did not Repair Disk Permissions in Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility before and after installation, go ahead and do so now. Here's how:
While booted from your internal HDD
Go to (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left column and First Aid in main column.
Click Repair Disk Permissions at bottom left.
Next, try starting up in Safe Mode, log in, empty Trash, restart normally and log in. See if this helps before we take any other meansures.
Please post back with update or further questions/comments.
    Good luck.

  • Apple Security Updater 2007-004 1.1

well i hope it didnt mess anything up ? i have applied the Apple Security Updater 2007-004 1.1 not under software update but from a download at macupdate pages i later found out that this update was not for my system as it didnt show up in SU i was wondering if there will be any downfall from from applying it or it just re-applied the same update from the most previous version and the install for other systems was slightly modified ???
thanks for your time and help

I installed the update yesterday, then went home. Today when I booted up the computer I had some weird things happen.
A.) The dual monitor display is reversed. It only straightens out if I physically switch the plugs from each monitor on the back of the G-4. I've never had any problem with dual monitors before on this trusty old work-horse. I'm using old CRT 17" Mags. But I had a Samsung 203B hooked up. That used to work, now it doesn't line up straight, and won't show up as a left monitor either unless I switch the plugs.
B.) In final Cut Pro the program no longer recognizes my player. I use two, a Canon XM1 and a Sony DSR 20. I can control the canon but get no display.
Funny stuff since the upgrade yesterday. But now what do I do?
    Thanks

  • Problem when installing the Apple Security update 2008-02

I just installed the Apple Security update 2008-02 in my server and now it's giving me problems!
It strips off the server's settings pane (where you can see the serial number) in Server Admin and keeps the "Sharing" button in the Workgroup Manager thus preventing me to do change file permissions!
I also cannot remotely administer it with server admin 10.5 as it says: "Unable to proceed. The server has returned bad version information and can't be administered with server admin right now."
    What the * happened??
    Please help! (crying)

    Yes.
Anyway, I have resolved the issue. I just re-installed the the Mac OS X Server 10.4.11 combo update and everything goes back to normal.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Why don't Apple security updates show up in my Macbook Pro app store

Running Mounbtain Lion 10.8.4 on MacBook Pro late 2008. Lately the Mac system and security updates don't show up, for example this latest 10.8.5 and security update 2013-0004.  I also believe that other updates may not be showing up, but I only get seperate notifications for the Apple system updates. I have had this problem for many months.
I go to the apple site to download them.
There is another macbook in our local network that does not have this problem, both Apple updates showed up and were installed.

Thanks for the Command-R tip, I was not aware that you need to be signed into the App Store as an admin but it did the trick and the OS update showed up.
There used to be a security recommendaton from Apple itself I believe to safeguard the administrative account by creating a Standard User account for everyday computing and an Admin User Account that is only used when needed (and typically while using the Standard account). But, if OS updates are not showing up automatically while using a Standard User account, you are missing out on potentially critical OS updates.

  • How can I tell which Apple Security Updates are installed?

While troubleshooting a printer issue, I installed some 'Extra' printer profiles from my OS 10.6 Install DVD. After which, I got a dialog box from the Installer saying that I may have replaced some newer items with older ones, and it suggested I run the latest OS "Combo" installer. Which I did, even tho Software Update said I was up-to-date.
But apparently, when I ran the "Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1" -- it downgraded some of my Apple software to older versions. For example, I know for sure Safari was at 5.1.2 before I ran the Combo, and it's now at 5.0.5. Yet Software Update is not telling me about v.5.1.2, which it shows as already being installed (at a date prior to me running the Combo updater).
    So my question is:
What other software might have been downgraded by the 10.6.8 Combo v1.1 -- and if Software Update thinks I running the current versions, how am I going to find out for sure?
Obviously, I can check version numbers of my installed Apple software like iTunes and Aperture against the latest updates available at Apple Downloads, but I don't know how to check on background files like Security Updates, Java, etc.
I am particularly concerned that I am running the latest Security Updates.
    Thanking you in advance,
    - gw

    steve626 said:
"... There you will be able to see if a more recent version of Safari, etc. was replaced with an older version."
Not exactly. That screen shows my most recent Safari update was 5.1.2 on 12/16/11 -- then it shows the Mac OS X Update Combined was installed on 1/2/12. That's when my Safari got downgraded to 5.0.5, but that detail is missing from the Installed Updates preference pane.
It looks like once an update gets installed, Software Update remembers that -- but does not take the newer update off the list if an older version replaces it???
So, even though I see Security Update 2011-006 was installed on 10/21/11, I'm not sure if the OS Combo Update replaced any security items with older bits. Is there anything specific to security updates that I might be able to check?

  • Problems after the last Apple Security Update with trackpad/mouse tapping/clicking

    Dear All,
I do have a MacBook Pro 15 (early 2008), Mac OS X (10.6.8). The logic board was replaced a couple of years ago under Apple warranty (distorted video problem). I am planning to repalce it after the next apple update on the macbook pro line. Before someone asks, I am using Snow Leopard because I still have some programs that needs Rosetta. I did apply the last security update and after I did shutdown and restarted the computer last night, the trackpad/mouse (mighty mouse, usb mouse) is not working properly. I just cannot do the left click or tap on the trackpad. The mighty mouse works perfectly, except the clicking. The same for the trackpad (tapping). I manage to open a pdf file with some keyboard shortcuts. I can use the mouse/trackpad to scroll and zoom in/out the document. I can use the trackpad to rotate the document, etc. Pressing on the might Just can´t tap/clock on the document to select or open it.
I alread did the obvious thing: command-alt PR, start in safe mode, unplug the power/battery for a few minutes...
Did you have a similar problem with the last security update. Do you have any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Carlos

I have resolved the issue! As I mentioned, I am using a Logitech cordless optical mouse. I connected up my Apple keyboard & mouse and disconnected the Logitech. The problem no longer occurred with the Apple mouse.
I removed the batteries from the Logitech mouse and disconnected the USB receiver. Restarted the computer, reconnected the Logitech setup, disconnected the Apple stuff, and now it is working.

  • HELP!  Can't boot after latest Apple Security Update (Released yesterday?)

The latest security update, which came out yesterday (I think it's this update: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305530 ) has ravaged my Mac.
    I have a PowerMac G4 Dual 1.25 MDD.
I installed the update, and rebooted like it said.
Once the computer came up, it got past the grey screen with the spinning wheel, the screen turned blue, right before it should present the login window... and then the grey (translucent) curtain slid down from the top, and a box in the center told me to hold down my power button and restart my computer.
Now this happens EVERY TIME I TURN MY COMPUTER ON.
I HAD a PERFECTLY RUNNING MAC BEFORE I INSTALLED THIS UPDATE. NOW IT'S COMPLETELY UN-USABLE.
    HELP! HELP! HELP!
WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX THIS?
I'm searching for bootable discs to try to get the Mac to come up so I can look at it. I haven't tried going in through single-user-mode (command prompt) yet. I came here first, because I need support FAST!!!
By the way, before this update, I was completely up-to-date with my Apple patches/updates. I was running 10.4.9 (I don't remember the Build #, but I was CURRENT).
Thanks in advance for any support (Apple?!?!)

    Ladies and Gentlemen:
Sorry for the alarming post. I'm replying to my own post to let everyone know that I don't think the problem is the Security Update alone. For lack of anything better to do, I decided to try troubleshooting this problem by myself... and here's what I did:
I booted the Mac in to Single-User mode, by holding down Command-S. Once in, I forced fsck to pass verification of the drive (fsck -fy). Then I mounted the root partition in Read/Write (mount -uw /). Once I had write access to the drive in the command prompt, I quickly decided to check out what applications and services were starting when my computer boots (/Library/StartupItems ; /Library/LaunchDaemons). From there I removed all third party applications and services. (I maintain a "StartupItems-Disabled" folder, and a "LaunchDaemons-Disabled" in the spirit of pre-OS X machines that had something similar in the System folder for extensions and control panels (if my memory serves me)... so that's where I put all the applications and services that I didn't want to boot (I moved them from the respective folders in to the "-Disabled" folders I had created).
Anyway... after removing all the third-party software and services from Startup, I rebooted, and my Mac came up just fine. I'm going to sift through the logs to see if anything was written about what happened at boot all those times. With any luck I'll figure out which application or service wasn't playing nicely with the OS and/or Security Update.
Good luck with your own endeavors. It's always scary when your Mac doesn't boot, so I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else (especially someone less technically inclined). I'll check the forums later to make sure no one else had similar problems... because I'm sure I could help them get to the bottom of their troubles.
    Cheers!
