Ichat-disconnected

HI, my ichat account was working fine until today. I clicked on the application and it took 5 minutes to load. Then, I got a message that "The connection could not be completed because it timed out. Try again." I tried to restart my computer multiple times and still the same thing. Please HELP!

Hi,
Welcome to the    Discussions
Go to iChat menu > Preferences > Accounts > Server Setting tab and change the port from 5190 to 443
In Snow Leopard you have to enable SSL if Off and then Press Enter/Return to "Set" the port change. (SSL can be Off Afterwards)

iChat disconnects after a few seconds and starts to blink the whole screen
this started since I installed Leopard; if I go back to 10.4 it works OK. I got rid of all the plist and it still hangs up. How can I uninstall this. On my laptop it works OK but I installed it with complete erase on laptop; on my desktop I stalled it over the old system.
error message AIM time out An AIM service error occurred.

and you have attemptedto log too often in a short period of time. wait a few minutes before trying to login in again.
EVEN THOUGH I ONLY TRIED ONCE TO LOG IN.

If you Archived and Installed then check iChat launches from the Applications Folder.
If it does that Drag the current (iChat 3) icon off the DOCK and drag iChat 4 to the DOCK.

  • My ichat disconnects when I hang up my phone

I have an imac, sys. 10.6.8, ichat 5.0.3 (745)  This use to work - but now once I connect with my buddy and hang up the phone, Ichat disconnects.  If I keep the phone line open and my buddy hangs up, Ichat disconnects.  If we both leave our phones open we can Ichat but if its a long chat then we disconnect.
Going into my Ichat preferences I notice many things are not highlited yet they are sitting there.
    I need help
    Thanks

All i can think of is if your on ADSL(DSL) and have a microfilter in the phone socket it might have gone bad, can you try another filter.

  • IChat disconnects constantly

I've searched the forums here but cannot find an answer to my problem. Before updating to Tiger, I found that iChat disconnected itself from AIM from time to time. Now that I've installed Tiger, it disconnects within 15 minutes every time. I keeping setting my status back to "Available" but it keeps silently disconnecting soon after. My internet connection is WiFi ADSL and when iChat disconnects the internet is still up and running fine.
iChat is basically unusable for me now, unless I somehow get used to manually reconnecting 50 times a day.

    Hi disconnekt
You seem to have checked the most common things where any experienced user would start.
Here are the best suggestions I can offer until you can track down the
    b cause
of your symptom so we know what to fix. Do them in any order you choose. I do easiest first, but you make the call based on what is likely in your system.
    (0) Check all your connections, wireless strength, and be sure your wireless link is secure (uses a password). Make sure your DSL modem is not configured to hang up when there is a period of inactivity.
    (1) Shut down everything, modems, routers, and all, for a few (10-15) minutes. Then, boot (power it up) your Modem. When its self test is done, boot your router and let it complete ITS self test. When the router's self test is done, power up your Mac, launch iChat AV, and check to see if it works now.
    (2) Take ALL your wireless equipment, routers, and firewalls OUT out of the loop, connect to your modem directly via Ethernet cable, and run directly wired until you get your connection working. This is the ONLY way I can think of that will let you be CERTAIN you KNOW your wireless, router, or firewall is not causing the problem.
When it is working reliably, hook the additional equipment up again, one item at a time, to see whether the problem returns. If adding one item back makes the problem reappear, remove the item again and reinstall it again to be SURE that this specific problem/fix is repeatable. Then you will KNOW that individual component is at least one of your problems. Repeat this process for EACH removed component, ALWAYS one item at a time. When finished, you will KNOW: (1) whether this is part of your problem, and (2) EVERY component that is a problem.
When you have identified EVERY problem item in the communications loop, you can apply the info from your equipments' documentation or customer support sites or the above links.
    (3) If your problem does not go away when you are running directly wired, check with your ISP to see whether they have made any recent changes. Sometimes changes that help PCs can cause problems for Mac users.
    (4) Be sure your OS X Mac is healthy. Catch up on OS X Maintenance if you have not done it recently.
    (5) See Ralph Johns' current Trouble Shooting thread.
    (6) Check Apple's Tiger Support page and Troubleshooting Mac OS X installation from CD or DVD article if you think that the problem is related to your Tiger install.
    (7) Consider the suggestions in my iChat AV 3 works for me thread.
    (8) If the timing ("15 minutes every time") is precisely repeatable, consider any apps that may be conflicting with iChat or iSight that have a regular schedule. Have you set your Mail to check for new Mail every 15 minutes, etc.? Any ideas from Possible hardware or software conflicts with iSight. FAQ?
    (9) Consider changing your Discussion alias to "Rock Solid Connected" :-))

  • ICHAT disconnects while typing a chat

A buddy appears and I'll start chatting with them. While I'm typing a phrase to send, before I even hit send, iChat disconnects and I am also disconnected from my DSL. This only happens while actually typing in a chat, it does not shut down when the iChat window is open but nobody is chatting with me. Only when I am typing does it disconnect. It just started happening one day. iChat always worked fine in the past. This disconnection problem does not happen in any other situation other than iChat. Any advice?

    No problem.
    Glad it helped.

  • IChat disconnects from Jabber transport

    Hi,
I've noticed that in iChat, if I am logged into a Jabber account that uses a Jabber transport, then sometimes iChat disconnects from the transport (and so I appear offline to all my contacts on the transport-ed network), and does not reconnect. If I log into Jabber through another client, say PSI or Gmail web pages, then iChat does reconnect.
(In my case the Jabber account is a Google Talk account, and the Jabber transport is a MSN transport, msn.jain.at)
    Can this be fixed?

  • IChat disconnects randomly, delays before notifying user

    Hi,
I've experienced the following problem for about a year now, on various operation systems and internet connections. iChat disconnects randomly but delays before notifying the user. The screen appears as though iChat is working fine, but the user, of course, cannot receive incoming messages. Outgoing messages appear to send fine, but the recipient does not receive them. After a few minutes iChat displays a warning message that says the user is disconnected, and after relaunching the application, it works fine.
Do you have any insights on this problem?
    Thanks,
    Jason

    HI Jason,
    I see this problem occassionaly.
It seems to effect me most on Mondays and if the text chat person also wants to Video test.
Sometimes the Video chat fails but the text chat goes very slow and then deleivers several reponses all at once.
    This could be several things.

  • ICHAT disconnects every five minutes...

My iChat disconnects every 5-10 minutes saying the connection was lost -- even though the browser still works! This only happens at my home with my wireless router.
Everywhere else I've used iChat (on other connections) it stays connected..
    HELP!

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
A Browser and even the Mail app if you use it only use the internet now and then.
For Mail this is when mail is collected or sent.
For a Web Browser it is each time you change page (Some pages automatically refresh to keep the adverts up to date)
You may only notice a slight pause in a browser if it is waiting for the Internet to come back.
iChat is a truly "Always ON" app
With any Buddy list that logs in to AIM it will instantly indicate any change in status of a Buddy (On-line, Off line, Status message Changes).
As a result any issue with the Internet connection no matter how short will normally get the buddy list to fold (say Disconnected).
If this Home router is Wifi try changing the channel it uses so not to get interference from other nearby devices.

  • Why is iChat disconnecting me after a while?

So I leave my computer for about 20 minutes...and iChat is disconnecting me.  Is this normal?  I couldn't see anything in the preferences to change this.  Is there a way to fix this?  I'm running Lion.
    Thanks

    Hi,
In System Preferences > Energy Saver have you got the Mac going to Sleep at that time. ?
If it is it will close all Network Connections.
When the Mac Wakes it should log you in again (Although sometime the Apps restart faster then the Network gets re-established)
If you mean the Buddy List changes to Away after a 10 minute perior of being Idle, change the setting in iChat > Preference > General Section that refers to this (Bottom of the top section).

  • IChat disconnecting constantly

My wife using iChat on her iMac with just one Google Talk account.  It disconnects/reconnects probably at least 50 times a day.  I'm not positive but I think this problem started around the time I upgraded her computer to Lion (I upgraded from Snow Leopard and didn't do a clean install).  Again though I am not totally positive this is when it started because I don't use this computer everyday.
Anyways I have tried deleting the account in iChat and re-adding.  That didn't help.  I'm wonder if I should try something else or if I should just wipe and do a clean install of Lion.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!!

Thanks guys. I've already changed my port to 443 and have deleted preferences and even re-installed the 10.4.9 universal updater. The problem persists, and I see many other posts with the same issue but there is never any resolution -- the threads just trail off, so I'm to assume the problem either resolves itself people just gave up.
This seems like a pretty serious issue, I have yet to see a definitive solution. I have repaired permissions, turned off port forwarding and turned on UPnP, turned off UPnP and turned on port forwarding, done everything imagineable under the sun besides downgrade back to 10.4.8.

  • Stalled Streaming transfers & iChat disconnects

I have been having a problem for about the last two-three months with my wireless network. It started more intermittent at first, figured it was just some random network ghost, maybe on my ISP's end, but it's grown in frequency and now I seem to have traced its origins to my Time Capsule.
The problems first manifested in iChat. I get random disconnects. I can reconnect fine, but since iChat tends to lag a certain time from when the network goes down to when it actually shows a disconnect message… hard to track the whens.
THEN, I noticed that streaming flash content would halt in the middle. Youtube for example, or other flash video stuffs (jon stewart clips, etc). Just stop. if I reloaded the page it would finish, but it doesn't play nicely all the way through. Same with Apple Movie trailers via their website.
However, 'regular' downloads, such as Apple updates or iTunes downloads, will finish fine even if they're close to a gig in size, it seems to only affect 'streaming' content via Safari & iChat as well. I looked at the logs in Airport Admin and see a reference to UDP being terminated, not sure if it's related or how, not a techie.
    Troubleshooting I did:
I first started by turning wireless off. I plugged in via ethernet to the modem itself. This solved all connection issues, so I knew it wasn't my ISP or my modem playing funky and dropping the connection. I moved downstream and plugged into the Time Capsule via ethernet, with wireless still off. My connection still behaved the same way. So it's not the wireless portion only, it's something in how the Time Capsule is getting and passing my internet connection; simply, it's not doing it right anymore.
Any suggestions? I can't really pinpoint exactly when it started or what might have been the catalyst, the ONLY thing I can think of was, wasn't there a random Bonjour update around that time? Not sure if THAT might have something to do with it. Either way, I don't know what I can do, it's rather frustrating. Hoping someone can help point me in the right direction.

I have the same problem - when I first bought my TC everything worked fine and it was fast. But now if I'm watching anything that streams, like YouTube videos, the TC drops the connection, green light starts flashing amber, then it will start up again after a few moments.
This problem will happen 4 or 5 times to try and get through a 3 minute YouTube video.
I have yet to find a fix, but this is the first product of Apple's that I've been so frustrated with.

  • IChat disconnected, seemingly permenantly.

My iChat was working fine all day, and for the past six months I've had it. Occasionally there are little bumps where it disconnects for one reason or another and usually, if I just shut the computer and re-open it, iChat goes back to its happy-self without a problem. Unfortunately, it's just not working this time. I went 'offline' went I shut it down this afternoon and reopened it at local restaurant. The wifi picked up an unstable connection, connected-and-disconnected to iChat rapidly, twenty or so times, and then simply went permenantly to disconnect.
I have three accounts on iChat, two AIM and one MAC. The account that disconnected was an AIM account; the other AIM account worked fine, as did the MAC one. In an effort to fix the problem, I tried several of the suggestions in the other forums, particularly from the FAQ and responses by Ralph Johns, but they all seemed to do nothing at all for my problem.
Even worse...now, all of the accounts are refusing to connect. Please, can someone help me with this?
I've seen numerous topics regarding this already, each with suggestions on how to fix the problem, i.e changing the port numbers, deleting the .plist files and so on. NONE OF THAT HAS WORKED FOR ME. -cries-...And it's getting very frustrating.
Please, someone help. I'm at my wit's end.

I looked into the system preferences, and no I didn't have specific locations set up. I arranged it now, though.
Yes, I was restarting iChat after I deleted the .plist files, I even used that program in the utilities to make sure that it was closed (since I've seen it mentioned previously that iChat runs in the background sometimes). Still, the problem continued.
However, in an attempt to get this fixed on my own, I deleted the originally problematic AIM account and the iChat Agent .plist (I believe) so that I could start fresh. I restarted iChat with a different AIM account name, and it worked just fine, so I recreated the problematic one, though it didn't work. I went through and mimicked the server settings in preferences from the good account to the troublsome one and it works now. However, it seems the final bit required me to check the SSL box, which I didn't have on previously and which interferes with my archiving program -- which I run in the background all the time for my own purposes.
I know for a FACT that I didn't have SSL before, so I suppose now the problem is how do I turn it off without wrecking the account again. Experimentally, I tried just un-checking the box and the account refused to work.

  • IChat disconnects

I am on vacation and my family is using a DSL modem and I connect via WIFI. It seems way to often does iChat randomly disconnect while I am in a chat with someone. I cant remember any error message other than a screen that pops and says ichat has lost the connection or what not. I am not sure why it does this. I keep my BlackBerry logged into AIM via the same WIFI router most days and I have yet to have a problem with it losing its connection so not sure why iChat is behaving this way. I have been using iChat for many months back home in my residence where I use a WIFI router connected to my Cable modem. Any suggestions?
    John

    Hi John,
In my experience personally and from reading these forums I would say that iChat is much more sensitive to changes in the WiFi status then other forms of Login.
A Phone is likely to using AIM Express via a Web Browser which my be relying on a refresh time to get new info or IMs to be sent.
iChat is much more "always on" in comparison.
Things like interference from other nearby routers tends to be the biggest issue.
By Default router manufacturers set the WiFi Channel to be in the middle of the range the device can do (in the area you live)
Consequently you can be surrounded by similar WiFi signals from neighbours.
I would access the router's set up pages and change the channel to be one nearer one end of the list.
    Example from my Router
Depending where you are then other things can cause interferrence such as:-
Microwave ovens that are not that far way.
    Aluminium backed insulation.
Power cables and power "bricks" for peripherals.
The amount of metal work such as wall/floor supports and radiators.
Those "wireless" Phones that works on similar channels.
    Hope that helps.

  • IChat disconnects and connects many times

when i'm connected via ADSL, my connection to friends thru iChat keeps disconnecting and connecting over and over again. is it my connection speed? i'm able to surf the web,etc fine, but iChat or Skype goes in and out of connection.. help please.thanx

This does depend on the actual spped of your IChat connections as well but:
Min connection speed is 100 Kilobits per sec
A min is therefore 6000 Kilobits and so on.
Add to this any other download and reugular web browsing, mail Send and collection (particualrly if they contain Pics or files)
Don't forget the just having iChat open and Logged in is constantly sending data back and forth regarding keeping the Buddy list updated with new Buddies, their icons (And changes they make) and their online status, not to mention changes in the Audio or Video Status.

  • IChat disconnects airport from my wireless connection

Every time I open iChat my computer disconnects from my wireless router. All it takes to fix it is for me to re-select my router but it gets really annoying having to reconnect every time I want to launch iChat. Any idea what's causing this problem?

The Original Poster said they changed to using an SSL login
iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts > Server Settings tab
You have to be logged out to change.

  • IChat disconnects unexpectedly

    Hi folks.
I just recently moved and I'm now experiencing disconnects from iChat about every ten minutes. I'm having trouble determining what the issue is.
Both AIM and GoogleTalk/Jabber will disconnect, seemingly at random, after 10-15 minutes. AIM will give me a message saying that it had "unexpectedly lost connection." Jabber will say that it "could not connect" to talk.google.com.
I am using OS X 10.4.8, iChat 3.1.5, a "Westell VersaLink Wireless Gateway" router, Verizon DSL, and my OS X firewall is turned off.
I tried switching AIM server settings to port 443, but this had no effect.
I did not have this problem at my last apartment using Cox Cable internet and a Linksys routers, nor at the apartment I had before that with Verizon DSL and the Linksys router.
    Please advise.
Mac Mini - Core Solo 1.5 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Guys/Gals
I have this problem as well - I am running 10.4.8 latest updates as of today on the ol' Powerbook G4. I am setting up the iChat Server on the Xserve we have and somehow my client would not connect - they both are on the same LAN and the firewall is disabled on the Xserve - hence no firewall issues etc.
The server starts up ok looks like:
Nov 15 11:57:55 myserver iChatServer-jabberd[6497]: 20061115T16:57:55: [notice] (-internal): initializing server
Nov 15 11:57:55 myserver iChatServer-jabberd[6497]: 20061115T16:57:55: [notice] (-internal): server started
The server log however shows the following message whenever I try to connect:
Nov 15 11:59:27 myserver iChatServer-jabberd[6497]: 20061115T16:59:27: [alert] (mio_xml.c:185): [junk after document element] XML Parsing Error:
Now I have not modified anything at the server end. Funnier is that I connect happily to Google Talk and our other Jabber server that runs on another box.
    Something awfuwwy scwewy awound hewe.
    Any clues would be appreciated.
    Thanks much
