IChat disconnects after 12 minutes.

Don't know what is going on, iChat opens fine, it disconnects after 12 minutes and it will not reconnect. Does any one know what I can do to solve this problem?

Hi,
What is the time the Modem or router says it is using ?
Some devices say 24 Hours and as long at the Computer is on again before it is up it keeps the IP.
Others like an Airport say 4 hours but then do different things
Some remake the connection at renewal and can break any internet connection you have.
Also does the computer keep the Same IP when the lease does get renewed ?

iChat disconnects after a few seconds and starts to blink the whole screen
this started since I installed Leopard; if I go back to 10.4 it works OK. I got rid of all the plist and it still hangs up. How can I uninstall this. On my laptop it works OK but I installed it with complete erase on laptop; on my desktop I stalled it over the old system.
error message AIM time out An AIM service error occurred.

and you have attemptedto log too often in a short period of time. wait a few minutes before trying to login in again.
EVEN THOUGH I ONLY TRIED ONCE TO LOG IN.

If you Archived and Installed then check iChat launches from the Applications Folder.
If it does that Drag the current (iChat 3) icon off the DOCK and drag iChat 4 to the DOCK.

  • Video chat disconnecting after ~1 minute

Hey guys, I'm having trouble with iChat disconnecting video after ~1 minute. The problem machine is a late 2009 15" MacBook Pro running OSX 10.6.5 with everything up to date. We're on a University network and I'm able to video chat with using other computers, so I don't think it's a network issue.
When the video drops, I get the usual message that (Problem Computer) ended the video chat. iChat keeps running on the problem computer when the connection is dropped, so it's not crashing the entire application. I've tried removing iChat and reinstalling from the cd, updating with the combo updater, removing the ichat plist from ~/User/Library/Preferences. This is what the system log reports when the video is dropped:

  • ICHAT disconnects every five minutes...

My iChat disconnects every 5-10 minutes saying the connection was lost -- even though the browser still works! This only happens at my home with my wireless router.
Everywhere else I've used iChat (on other connections) it stays connected..
    HELP!

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
A Browser and even the Mail app if you use it only use the internet now and then.
For Mail this is when mail is collected or sent.
For a Web Browser it is each time you change page (Some pages automatically refresh to keep the adverts up to date)
You may only notice a slight pause in a browser if it is waiting for the Internet to come back.
iChat is a truly "Always ON" app
With any Buddy list that logs in to AIM it will instantly indicate any change in status of a Buddy (On-line, Off line, Status message Changes).
As a result any issue with the Internet connection no matter how short will normally get the buddy list to fold (say Disconnected).
If this Home router is Wifi try changing the channel it uses so not to get interference from other nearby devices.

After logging into my wifi connection, which does take some time to do.
Why does my wifi disconnect after not using my computer for a few minutes?

  • Wireless modem disconnecting after 10 minutes consecutively...

My wireless modem is disconnecting after every 10 minutes...I just replaced the modem and cable so it is not that.
It shows as a Ethernet port connection...it is plugged into a USB port.
    Help

Interesting. I have a Macbook pro 17" and although all is fine using either of the 2 usb ports on the left, my external modem is either very slow or disconnects for no reason when I use the usb port on the right.
I think it may have occurred after I upgraded to 10.4.7 also.

  • IChat disconnects constantly

I've searched the forums here but cannot find an answer to my problem. Before updating to Tiger, I found that iChat disconnected itself from AIM from time to time. Now that I've installed Tiger, it disconnects within 15 minutes every time. I keeping setting my status back to "Available" but it keeps silently disconnecting soon after. My internet connection is WiFi ADSL and when iChat disconnects the internet is still up and running fine.
iChat is basically unusable for me now, unless I somehow get used to manually reconnecting 50 times a day.

    Hi disconnekt
You seem to have checked the most common things where any experienced user would start.
Here are the best suggestions I can offer until you can track down the
    b cause
of your symptom so we know what to fix. Do them in any order you choose. I do easiest first, but you make the call based on what is likely in your system.
    (0) Check all your connections, wireless strength, and be sure your wireless link is secure (uses a password). Make sure your DSL modem is not configured to hang up when there is a period of inactivity.
    (1) Shut down everything, modems, routers, and all, for a few (10-15) minutes. Then, boot (power it up) your Modem. When its self test is done, boot your router and let it complete ITS self test. When the router's self test is done, power up your Mac, launch iChat AV, and check to see if it works now.
    (2) Take ALL your wireless equipment, routers, and firewalls OUT out of the loop, connect to your modem directly via Ethernet cable, and run directly wired until you get your connection working. This is the ONLY way I can think of that will let you be CERTAIN you KNOW your wireless, router, or firewall is not causing the problem.
When it is working reliably, hook the additional equipment up again, one item at a time, to see whether the problem returns. If adding one item back makes the problem reappear, remove the item again and reinstall it again to be SURE that this specific problem/fix is repeatable. Then you will KNOW that individual component is at least one of your problems. Repeat this process for EACH removed component, ALWAYS one item at a time. When finished, you will KNOW: (1) whether this is part of your problem, and (2) EVERY component that is a problem.
When you have identified EVERY problem item in the communications loop, you can apply the info from your equipments' documentation or customer support sites or the above links.
    (3) If your problem does not go away when you are running directly wired, check with your ISP to see whether they have made any recent changes. Sometimes changes that help PCs can cause problems for Mac users.
    (4) Be sure your OS X Mac is healthy. Catch up on OS X Maintenance if you have not done it recently.
    (5) See Ralph Johns' current Trouble Shooting thread.
    (6) Check Apple's Tiger Support page and Troubleshooting Mac OS X installation from CD or DVD article if you think that the problem is related to your Tiger install.
    (7) Consider the suggestions in my iChat AV 3 works for me thread.
    (8) If the timing ("15 minutes every time") is precisely repeatable, consider any apps that may be conflicting with iChat or iSight that have a regular schedule. Have you set your Mail to check for new Mail every 15 minutes, etc.? Any ideas from Possible hardware or software conflicts with iSight. FAQ?
    (9) Consider changing your Discussion alias to "Rock Solid Connected" :-))

  • IChat disconnects randomly, delays before notifying user

    Hi,
I've experienced the following problem for about a year now, on various operation systems and internet connections. iChat disconnects randomly but delays before notifying the user. The screen appears as though iChat is working fine, but the user, of course, cannot receive incoming messages. Outgoing messages appear to send fine, but the recipient does not receive them. After a few minutes iChat displays a warning message that says the user is disconnected, and after relaunching the application, it works fine.
Do you have any insights on this problem?
    Thanks,
    Jason

    HI Jason,
    I see this problem occassionaly.
It seems to effect me most on Mondays and if the text chat person also wants to Video test.
Sometimes the Video chat fails but the text chat goes very slow and then deleivers several reponses all at once.
    This could be several things.

  • SQL Developer on Linux hangs when disconnecting after VPN reconnect

    Hello,
I have a problem with using connections after general link failure (Cisco VPN disconnect in my case, lost of route to Oracle DB).
When I reconnect to a VPN and I'll try to disconnect from a previously opened (before general link failure) connection, I need
to wait more than 10 minutes to complete this process. SQL Developer is completely unusable during this time.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Connect to VPN
    2. Open connection in SQL Developer to host accessible only by this VPN
    3. Restart VPN
    4. Try to do anything with this connection (disconnect, execute sql in opened SQL Worksheet, view tables, etc.)
This bug is not new in recent versions, I'm using SQL Developer from over 2 years and this bug was always with me. But if I remember correctly in earlier versions (<3.0) I couldn't reuse the connection to execute sql (hanging SQL Developer for more than 10 minutes) but disconnecting would succeed without a problem.
Maybe SQL Developer should move connection management to separate thread to resolve this issue... or is there another solution?
    I'm using SQL Developer 3.1.07.42 @ Linux 3.0.4
For VPN connectivity I use vpnc
When I restart VPN connection I'm loosing TUN interface and all routes.
I have tested this issue on a few versions of SQL Developer on Windows XP, including 3.1.07. There is no problem with disconnecting after vpn failure on Windows.
Maybe I should fill some bug report? When I can do such thing? Metalink?
    Best regards,
    Irek Slonina

    Hi Irek,
Possibly you can resolve this issue by altering the type of the connection that becomes non-responsive upon a VPN reconnect. What type are you currently using: Basic, TNS, etc?
In this forum thread (for Windows, unfortunately, not Linux), although different from your case, the solution used Thick/OCI driver, not Thin/Basic:
    Windows 7 VPN
I have no VPN client on Linux (much less vpnc), only Cisco AnyConnect on Win XP, so I cannot test your scenario.

  • I can't be the only one with this issue. MacBook Pro Retina Late-2013 WiFi disconnects after waking up from sleep.

Did anyone buy a MacBook Pro Retina 13" from Best Buy this Black Friday?
I'm having an issue where the WiFi disconnects after the MacBook wakes from sleep but only after a couple of minutes.
Once the WiFi disconnects, I can't reconnect to the same network and sometimes it won't find nearby networks.
I have to turn off the WiFi and wait for at least 5 seconds before turning it back on for it to auto-reconnect to my home network.
If I wait less than 5 seconds, it will continue to attempt connection to the home network but won't connect.
I've tried reformatting and deleting my network configurations as well as resetting my modem, power cycling it, etc.
    I am using 2Wire Gateway modem/router from AT&T on b/g network.
I've tried connecting to a friend's network under Time Warner Cable and the same issue occurs.
I exchanged the MacBook at a Best Buy for a brand unopened one (I hope) and the same exact thing happens with this new one.
Really, I can't be the only one with this issue. Unless in a 0.00001% chance I received two defective units in a row?
Please.. does anyone have a clue why this is happening?

You're definitely not the only one.  I have the same issue.  I spent 6 hours over multiple days on the phone with Apple support trying a variety of things (some of which are mentioned above), and none of them worked.  They finally sent me a replacement laptop.  I made sure to try it periodicaly as I was moving files and installing applications to see if I ran into it again and things seemed okay at first but now I am running into the same issue and it is terribly annoying.  I've got 5 other devices that connect to the same router and I've never had this issue with any of them.
My router is a Linksys E2000.  I haven't tried changing the router channel but I have tried to cnnecting to other networks in the building I live in and I have run into the same issue there.

  • Won't disconnect after syncing

iPod won't disconnect after sync. Says it's in use by another program. How do I find out what program is using it and why?

A background anti-virus scanner is one possible culprit as are other programs that might scan the drive when it connects such as Google/Windows desktop search tools. You should also make sure all Explorer windows/dialog boxes are closed, e.g a folder view of the iPod or a dialog saying something like. "This disk contains different types of items, what would you like Windows to do...?" Use ALT-Tab to cycle between windows as you may not even spot this one is there... it can open up behind iTunes without any other sign on screen, particularly in Vista. You may even need to quit iTunes before you can eject the disk if it has not closed files properly. Your milage may vary, but I often have to wait up to a minute after closing iTunes for it to announce that it is saving it's library and it may not be until this point that it properly closes all of it's open files.

  • WRT1900AC - Nest Thermostat disconnects after 30 mins

Just swapped my EA6500 for the new WRT1900AC, and everything is rock solid except for my Nest Thermostat. After about 30 mins the Nest will say that it can't take to the wireless, and if I reselet the SSID again, it will stay connected again for about 30 mins.
I believe this issue has been seen before. Something about routers not supporting low power mode correctly and/or the default for timing about a client is less then 30 mins. The EA6500 never had this issue, but it looks like the WRT1900AC does.
I've even set the 2.4Ghz to WPA2 personal only (as suggested by Nest) and the channel width to 20MHz only, but it's still being disconnected after the Nest enteres low power mode and before it wakes up again 30 minutes later..

When I had the Netgear R7000, my 3M Wifi Thermostat would not connect and hold the link between the router and thermostat. I researched this on the 3M site and it was buried deep in their literature that there unit was having some compatibility problems with certain routers, they didn't name which make or model. According to their article they were soon to release a new FW for the device and an updated app for the iOS. Sure enough, almost 20 days later a new FW and app, and the thermostat was SOLIDLY connected to the R7000 and responding to all commands from the app.
The WRT1900AC connected to ALL of my components right from the get go ..no hiccups. I suspect Nest needs to update their FW and all should be good.

What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
    iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if it is connected to the Internet by Wi-Fi or cellular. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • VPN Disconnection After iPhone Locks

I'm not sure if anyone else has this issue, but a fix/explanation would be helpful.
Whenever I am on a VPN connection [with 3G as it seems EDGE doesn't want to let me connect another issue entirely] - it disconnects after about a few minutes of being locked. Part of me thinks this has to do with the issues with 3G where it switches unnecessarily.
Hopefully one of you who uses VPN experiences this as well and can help me out!
    Thanks kindly,
    Chris

Thanks for your post, I have the same problem, but when I asked IT about this, they told me that we authenticate users in a different way.
You wrote: "*The fix was to configure the Cisco firewall VPN user account to allow the client to save the password locally, you must goto the user account and un-check the "inherit" and then the option of "NO" or "YES" can be selected*"
I'm not from IT, but they told me we are using a Cisco ASA 5520 and using user validation by Radius authentication against Active Directory and IAS (Internet authentication Service)
That we don't handle user authentication by Cisco, so there is no way to tell Cisco to allow the users to store the passwords. What Cisco validates is a Group and then passes the rest to the AD.
    Any suggestion?
