IChat disconnects airport from my wireless connection

Every time I open iChat my computer disconnects from my wireless router. All it takes to fix it is for me to re-select my router but it gets really annoying having to reconnect every time I want to launch iChat. Any idea what's causing this problem?

iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts > Server Settings tab

I use Time Capsule and Airport for my wireless connection and my speeds stink!

I am getting horrible speeds (250K downloads) any suggestions. I have the time capsule and the Airport for my wireless connection and I have a new MacBook Pro. My download speeds are about 250K. I have turned off my wireless and plugged into my network with a physical connection and I get great speeds so something is wrong wiht my wireless connection /setup......any suggestions?

I recommend the following ..
Set wireless and TC names to SMB standard.. short, no spaces.. pure alphanumeric.
Lock the wireless channels and set a different name for 5ghz and also lock its channel.
Use only WPA2 Personal security with a decent passkey.. generally 8-12 characters is plenty. Still follow the rules.. pure alphanumeric mix of upper lower case and numerals..
If that does not improve things.. how old is the TC.. the wireless output does seem to slide as they age.
A simple WAP connected to the TC can provide far superior wireless for very little money.

Airport Utility Disables Wireless Connection - No Connectivity Error

In setting up an AX to stream iTunes to my stereo over my existing wireless network (Netgear access point), it appears that the Airport Utility has somehow disabled wireless access for my laptop, as I now get a "limited or no connectivity" error message and cannot connect to the internet.
Airport Utility detected the AX, I set a password for it, directed it to join my wireless network, selected WPA2 encryption and entered the 26-character key to the network. AU then said the AX couldn't join the network, and wireless connectivity for the whole PC disappeared and I haven't been able to get it back.
It appears that Airport Utility somehow altered some of the network settings on my PC but I can't figure out what. I spent hours trying to figure this out last night and am at a loss. Help!

When you are setting up the AirPort Express, you are using a default network provided by the Express with a name like +Apple Network xxxxxx+. You need to be on this network to be able to configure the device. Your computer was on this network.
Chances are, your PC may still be trying to access that network, and not the network that you normally use. See if that might be the case.
WPA2 Security would be used on the AirPort Express if that is exactly the setting the Netgear router is using. If the Netgear is using WPA type encryption, try the WPA/WPA Personal setting on the AirPort Express.
Unless the security settings match up exactly, the Express will not be able to join the Netgear wireless network correctly. See if you can find the settings page for the Netgear to see exactly what type of security it is using.
You'll need to "hard reset" the Express by holding in the reset button until you see the amber light begin to flash more quickly. Then try to reconfigure the Express. Unfortunately, if you don't have the right settings entered on the Express, you'll have to start all over again.

I'm running 10.5.6 but this was going on during 10.5.5 as well: When I launch iChat (4.07) my airport goes out and/or I'm disconnected from the internet for about 30 seconds after which everything reconnects. Then, about every 30 minutes it does the same thing - even while video chatting. I thought it may be my router because this does NOT happen at my brother's - but Adium and Skype w/ Video do NOT disconnect me or themselves when I'm connected to my router -- so I'm at a loss. Any ideas?

iChat does tend to show up a lot more minor glitches with the Internet connection than other apps.
Obviously a Mail app only uses it now and then as does a Web Browser.
A download or Video Stream would show something more regular with pauses and slowdowns or stuttering.
A WiFi Connection would be likely to be influenced by external factors like power surges in cabling, Microwaves the other side of walls (General Electro Magnetic Stuff) going on around, either near either Router of computer or in between.

How to print from different wireless connection on same network

I can print wirelessly when I am in range of the wifi to which my computer and attached printer connect. However, when I go to a different wifi connection within the same network, I cannot print. How can I my wifi connections on same network talk to each other so that I can print from second wifi site on same network?

The problem is you loaded the printer directly and now do not have it plugged in.. so delete the printer in the control panel.. then setup the printer again.. this time connect to it as network printer. The bonjour should make it available as a network resource..
Tell me if you still run into trouble doing that. You may need to load the IP of the TC manually..
Window7 has higher security level than xp.. and that can sometimes also cause issues.
Are you using SMB compliant names for the TC, wireless and printer??
Can the windows 7 computer get internet via the TC? Can you ping it?
Look up how to reduce the security level in windows to match xp.. I don't remember the details but you have to do some nifty footwork.

Macbook Pro will go from full wireless connection to none

It is not the regular problem of the airport connection dropping. I will go from 4 bars in the airport menu to none, within a couple steps away from my airport extreme n router. I dont understand why this is happening, I am only about 20 feet from the router, so range should not be the issue, there is also nothing else to interfere with the connection.

I have a client with the EXACT same issue. The machine will work fine and then for no reason the bars will drop to zero and it will take about a full minute to find any connection. This issue just randomly started at work and coffee shops but he says it works just fine at home. The work router is an Airport Express with the most up to date software and hasn't been touched for a good 4 months. I am on a MBP right now and have had no issues while his Core Duo has all kinds of issues.

Airport extreme losing wireless connection with Time Capsule

I have a 1st gen Time Capsule acting as my home wireless network base station which is configured to allow the wireless network to be extended. It is also the sole DHCP server. I have a 4th gen Airport Extreme in Extend a Wireless network mode. Everything was running ok for several months. However, since I upgraded both devices to Version 7.6, the Airport extreme keeps losing its connection with the network every few hours, requiring a daily reboot. Since the problem occured, I have disabled MAC address Access Control on the Time Capsule, and allocated a reserved DHCP IP address for the Airport Extreme - but this has not solved the problem.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I had exactly the same problem. I also think it's a bug in 7.6. It seemed solved by downgrading my Time Capsule (TC) and my Airport Extreme (AE) to 7.5.2. To do so start the Airport Utility (in your /Applications/Utilities folder). Double click on the TC or AE. In the Menu at the top on your screen go to "Base Station" --> "Upload Firmware..." and the select 7.5.2. After rebooting your device, downgrade the other. Hopefully your problem is solved as well!

AE not visible in Airport list/No wireless connection

I've been using an AE for the last few months to create a wireless network with a Pirelli Tiscali modem. It worked fine until about 2 weeks ago when it dropped out and became unusable. I've done many factory resets as well as others. Occasionally Airport picks it up and lets me configure the AE but then it disappears immediately. Basically it's just not visible in the Airport list. I've updated the firmware on the AE and have got iTunes 8. Any ideas? I want my wireless back!!

IMac 10.4 w/ Airport Card loses wireless connection

I just upgraded an iMac w/ Airport card to 10.4.6. Was running 9.2.2 w/ Airport card and it worked fine on home wireless network. Now, the signal stays on for 5 seconds, goes off for 1 second, and then comes back. iMac is in same location as before. 2Wire, the wireless modem maker, says I need to update Airport card driver? Can anyone please help?

Not to worry. If you have applied all of the AirPort updates via Software Update, your AirPort card has all the updates that are available.

Airport Not letting wireless connect

Everything works fine but my wireless. I can find it and when i connect to it on my mac it will not let me connect. Keeps saying try again yat yat. When I try it on my XP machines It seems my router is not issuing IP. Yes I reset has latest firmware. Anyone have ideas? PS yes correct password

When trying to send emails over your iPhone's 3G connection emails will not send, correct?

My iphone disappears from itunes - wireless connection.

From my own experience, iTunes Wifi Sync can sometimes be a bit annoying...
First, you should have "Sync this iPhone over wifi" (in the General tab) enabled.
Sometimes you have to restart iPhone or iTunes, but I never had to, nor have I heard of people requiring computer restarts...
In your case it could also be a Wifi connection problem. Is your PC or Mac always connected to the same network as the iPhone? Could be a problem with Laptops as you move them between places.
Also, if your Wifi connection is very weak, iPhones tend to fail connecting from time to time. The iPhone would then just disappear from iTunes.

Airport Extreme, nor wireless connection

I have an Airport Exstreme station that no longer works. It works fine with cables, but the Airport Utility (and my MacBook Pro) cannot see it wirelessly.
My main problem is that I am convinced that it needs to be repaired and I am also convinced that I bought it through the Apple Store February 2007. I can see that on my credit card statement.
When I go to my account in the Apple Store, I cannot, however, see it as a past order during the last 18 months. Has anybody had that experience, and does anybody have any suggestions as to what I can do? My main problem is finding the invoice as proof of my purchase.

Yes, I have talked to Apple 3 times! Unfortunately they are quite hopeless. They ask me to try this and that, and when they give up they say that they have to call a colleague. Every time this happnes I am left hanging in the phone. Last time for 30 minutes before I gave up.
My main problem is that I cannot find an invoice so that I can leave the Airport in to be repaired. I simply don't understand why I cannot find the purchace on my account.
