IChat does not recognize buddy-but AIM does

I'm stumped. I'm on the phone right now talking to a Mac using friend. She is in my iChat buddy list but it tells me she is offline.
When I open AIM, she is there and online. Also, she then sees me as online. I have added her in iChat (though it insists on giving her a .Mac or AIM account type. She tells me she does not have a .Mac account. And she is not using AIM. She is in Tiger and is able to vidfeo chat with her daughter. I am in Panther and getting nowhere unless I use AIM - which does not seem to have a video option. Stumped, stumped, stumped.

Hi Teter,
In iChat 3.0 and 3.0.1 you can have a problem of one AIM application saying you are logged in and not allowing iChat to Launch (or Quitting if active).
This was sorted with an option to allow Multiple Logins in iChat 3.1
It shoud not be a problem in iChat 2.x although your do get a text message from the AIM server that you are logged in twice
(typing "1" as the answer logs the first computer or application out of AIM
I am not sure about AIM express but does it have an option to say you are Away when you are logged off (disconnected/Offline) ?
If so I would change this setting to show you as Logged out when this is actually the case.
iChat has a simiar setting in Preferences > General section but you will need to get iChat to start to sort this.

Might be worth tearing down the whole iTunes install and starting over...
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

Bridge CS6 does not recognize videos but CS4 does

Hi forum,
My copy of Bridge CS6 suddenly stopped showing a preview image for video files and does not play them either. Lightroom 4.4 and Lightroom 5 also do not recognize video files (.mov's, .avi's, m-pegs...). My Lightroom used to have no problem playing them.
Bridge CS4 sees them and plays them as normal.
I purged my video cache in Lightroom, uninstalled and reinstalled it, updated Quicktime and am running OSX 10.8.5.

ITunes does not recognize iPod but computer does

I just bought an iPod and I can't get the iTunes to recognize the iPod, however, it appears in windows. When I open iTunes it says that I need to download the updater but I have already done that. I've read the support pages apple had provided and have done everything they have said to do but it still does not work.
I bought one a week before this and it worked but the battery did not last so I traded it in for this one. So I know my computer and iTunes is capable of working, just not the iPod.
If anyone has any reasons for this, please let me know. I would appreciate it greatly.

My Iphone is not seen on itunes when I plug it. I've tried everything that I found on the internet. but it still doesn't work, so I can't sync my iphone. What can I do? I have checked all the USB ports, I have desinstalled and installed again itunes, and I have run out of ideas.

When you plug it it, it should recognize it as an Apple IPHONE under devices. It will then bring the Camera/Connection wizard for the photos on the device. When you plug into different USB, it should bring the hardware wizard and tell you what its installing, what happens?
Under Device Manager, under Imaging Devices it will show up as Apple IPHONE. Is this being shown in your computer?

Hi Jim,
yes after I imported my .cr2 raw files into new catalog it started to work. Windows 7 still does not recognize them but I can edit them as you said within the Lr5.6 and then export them into .psd or .dng files...as needed.
I bought Lr5 only because I got present - my new camera Cannon 70D and because my older Photoshop CS5.5 raw plugin does not recognize. cr2 files.

Mavericks on my late 2013 Mac Mini (8gb RAM) does not recognize my APC650CI UPS as a UPS

I have a late 2013 model Mac Mini running Macvericks.
I just bought a an APC Back-UPS XS 650CI for it (I have 3 other Back-UPS 650CI for other systems - Windows 7 and 2x Netgear NAS setups).
In the Energy Saver panel of System Preferences the Back-UPS 650CI is not recognized, but it IS correctly listed in the USB section of System Profiler.
I have tried other UPS monitor programs: PowerSave UPS does NOT recognize it, but apscupsd DOES recognize it.
The Netgear ReadyNAs DOES recognize the new unit (I tried swapping the two Back-UPS XS 650CI's around)
I have reset the UPS - still not recognized.
I have tried on of the other Back-UPS XS 650CI's that I have around - not recocognised.
I have reset the Mac's Pram - still not recognized
I have reset the Mac's SMC - still not recognized
I have reset the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist - still not recognized
My ancient Macmini1.1/Intel Core Duo DOES recognize the Back-UPS 650CI in the Energy Saver panel of System Preferences.

Answering myself
Had long conversations with APC/Schneider (quite helpful once you get past the drones)
They weren't aware of the problem but it does seem that Apple have removed/omitted the code that used to recognize the APC Back-UPS XS650CI at some point after Snow Leopard - Lord knows why. This despite the fact that it is correctly listed in the USB section of System Profiler.
The only solutions that I can see is either for APC/Schneider to get Apple to reinstate the relevant code (unlikely) and/or for APC/Schneider to issue an updated version of PowerChute for Mac (long overdue), which is possible but don't hold your breath.
I bought the (rather expensive) PowerSaveUPS app from the Apple Store but that doesn't work either (http://www.powersaveups.co.uk/) - I've emailed them to grumble but no reply yet.
In the meantime best bet is to use apcupsd for Mac - it isn't ideal but it works - RTFM.
The latest iteration is available on http://sourceforge.net/projects/apcupsd/files/osx-binaries%20-%20Stable/3.14.11/

Help: Computer does not recognize Inspire 1394!!

I have an Inspire 1394 Audio Interface. Until recently I had no problems using it with GarageBand. A few days ago when I plugged the Interface into the computer (via firewire port) not only does GarageBand not recognize it, but the software for the Inspire 1394 does not recognize it either, it just says "No Device." I know my firewire port works, so I know that isn't the problem. I suppose the firewire cable I'm using could be bad, but that seems unlikely to me.
Does anyone have any advice to help the computer detect the interface?
Any help you can provide will be GREATLY appreciated.

I had this hapen the other day and I just unplugged and replugged the firewire cable and all was good. Not much help, but in case you didn't try it...

IChat 4 does not accept any more AIM contact!

I bought Leopard the day of its release, and the problem seemed to apeared since then. When I click on the + button, to add a new contact, I choose the contact in my list, then I click okay. The contact appear in the Ofline Buddies list, but after a few seconds, it disapear. If my contact is online at this moment, I can talk with him without problem (even if his name disappear of my list and I need to readd him the next time I'll want to talk with him), but if he's offline, even if I try to add and add and add my friend, it dosen't work more than few seconds...

As mwu has said this seems to be Leopard related.
Whether it is some quirk of the app and the com.apple.AIM.plist that handles the info about your AIM login or whether it is something to do with the AIM servers and the SSL login iChat can now do is unclear.
At times you may notice a very quick flash of a message at iChat launch that implies at first you can not Login Into AIM.
If you then check iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Server Settings you will often see that iChat is not using the SSL login.
If you change it back by Login out of AIM first and clicking the SSL button you will find the server name changes slightly as well.
If yo try to login under SSL again you may find the AIM SSL server is not responding.
It is unclear if this is the Server end or an iChat thing.
You can try deleting com.apple.ichat.plist to see if things improve as some people report that it does. (Users/(your account)/Library/Preferences)

Ichat does not show any contact AIM

Hello, I am Spanish and I use the google translator.
Well, I have an AIM account that works fine with Adium, but iChat does not. I have iChat 5.0.3 in Leopard.
The problem is that I see no single contact in iChat, Adium since I see Facebook, Gmail, IM, etc. I appear not as if they were disconnected.
Com.apple.ichat.AIM I deleted the file (I called so) and I have port 443. I really do not know what to do, thanks.
PD: I prefere iChat because iChat works with webcam.

A few hours ago I have heard that AIM is not in session nécessité to start Adium. But what I've done is add and remove Adium AIM Facebook and Gmail chat, which was added. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

try disabling email scanning for incoming mail.
One of the last things that occurs is the mail server and Thunderbird sign off on "where we are up to" and Thunderbird stores this state information in the popstate.dat file in your profile (there is one in each POP mail account folder). If the anti virus, or you for that matter, end the conversation a few seconds early that hand off does not occur and the popstate is not stored.
