Ichat doest open up

Hi ,
I have the Lion OS and IChat just wont open up on it.
It appears on the Doc but when i click on the icon nothing happens following is what appears when i typed

Hi,
Turn Off Parental Controls (Or have someone turn them off).
However it is very unusual to be totally Locked out of iChat unless no accounts (iChat IDs) have been set up before Parental Controls were activated.
Normally you have access to the Preferences as you can change a few things such as the Sounds linked to the Alert Actions or the Font Choice for the IM messages.
This may in fact mean that you don't have Permission to Read or Write to the iChat .plist
Go to your Home Folder/Library/Preferences.
Find com.apple.ichat.plist
Highlight it and do a Get Info (CMD and i Keys together) and check if You Own it and whether you have Read and Write Permissions on this file.

iChat automatically opens when anyone sends me a message, even after I have quit out of iChat. How do I turn this off? I can't find any settings anywhere related to this.

This is somewhat the default.
I take it that this is an AIM name (Or one that logs in to the AIM Servers) ?
The AIM Service includes Off-Line IMs
By default it is On in iChat.
If the AIM Server is not sure it has your Settings it will ask if you want to receive Off Line Messages in an alongside IM from AIMSysMessage that pops up at the same time.
If you say No your account at AIM has that setting made.
If you do say No and want to change it later you have to Sign In on the aIM Web Site and go to Your Account Settings and change it.
Same if you are not getting Prompted or said Yes and now don't want them.

IPhoto, iChat, wont open "due to a problem"

iPhoto and iChat do not open, they close "due to a problem". I have repaired disk permissions a plethora of times, I used Disk Warrior to rebuild the partition. And Ive done everything, including deleting preferences (plists, etc). I appreciate any help.

You may have older version of iPhoto and iChat that were written with Power PC code. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info and then System Report . When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.

Unclicked account now ichat wont open

I was trying to add a new account in iChat and unclicked my current account and now iChat will not open. Anyone know how to help me?

In System Preferences > General there is a box to tick near the bottom about App remembering which windows were open.
Is this ticked ?
Also is iChat appearing as the named app in the Menu bar ?
If there are no Buddy list logged in there will be no windows but you should still be able to access the Preferencs and the Accounts option in the iChat Menu.

Ok,
I take it iChat is not launching form the DOCK iCon ?
Does it launch if you go to the Applications Folder and start it from there like any other app not in the DOCK ?

My ichat wont open up? neither will aim?

I did some system updates and about a week later ichat and aim wont open up? When i click on them they just kinda bounce up and down for a few seconds then disapeer of tried re instaling the applications and updating the system again but nothings working, anyone know how to fix it?

Go to the Apple icon top left of the screen
Select About this Mac.
This should tell you which OS you are running.
Alternatively go to the Applications Folder and highlight iChat (one click)
Now use th Finder's Go Menu > Get Info (Keystrokes of CMD and i Keys together)
What version does this say ?
If you are on Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.x) and past 10.6.3 then iChat should be at version 5.0.3

IChat will open but no window shows

iChat has unexpectedly quit. Buddy list will not appear or any type of login screen. The tool bar across the top will show up but there are no ways of opening anything (everything is in grey). All updates are up to date on this computer and a copy of it was given to me by a friend over Blue Tooth and this will not open either.

So in the iChat Menu bar you cannot get to Preferences in the iChat Menu or see any Screen Name listed in th Windows Menu ?
Many items will be grey if there are no windows as a front window is needed to change many items.
However it is possible to Login with Buddy Lists being Hidden (Use the red Button/blob) and then iChat Restarted. iChat "Remembers" that the window is not On view but does still list Logged in name in the Window Menu (Use Listed Keystrokes to bring Window in to view)

Ichat doesnt open.

Ive had my macbookpro for about a bit over 2months now, but ive never been able to open Ichat. I click the icon and nothing happens. Any suggestions?

Only one item in my LAN has DHCP enabled, and that is my router. And the only item set with a fixed IP is a NAS drive. The remaining items are all non-fixed IP, including my primary and secondary Macs (i.e. laptop and tower) for iChat purposes.
Likewise, my friend has DHCP set on his router, with nothing set with fixed IP.
AFAIK my cable ISP does not use DHCP on its end; my router has it enabled. Likewise for my friend. (Out of curiosity, is there a way to tell DHCP is used by the cable provider other than calling their tech support?)
Each of us tried using the "Port Range Forwarding" option within our routers ... both at the same time, and with only one of us enabling this. We also used the very open range for this setting to minimize any chance of difficulty: 1024-65535. Since we had no success, Port Range Forwarding is currently turned off on each of our routers. Incidentally, this is the only place within the router we attempted any kind of port forwarding (no DMZ changes, etc).

New to imac's... ichat wont open..

hey... im having a problem with ichat. when i click on the ichat icon from my dashboard it bounces but doesnt open. what seems to be the problem? is it actually running somewhere and i cant find it? it has the black up arrow underneath the icon.

In Finder: Go>Applications> double click on iChat and should open. If it does, drag iChat out of the Dock and onto the Desktop to get rid of the alias. Then drag the iChat icon out of the App folder and into the Dock to reinstall it.

Why does iChat re-open windows on launch?

Many times when I'm finished using iChat I will quit the application with a number of open chat windows. The next time I open iChat it re-creates those windows again, although they're all empty with none of the text that was in the windows when I quit the app.
Now, I don't WANT that old text; I have no reason to save my chats, but it annoys me to no end that every time I open iChat it brings back those blank windows. If I chose to SAVE all my chats then this might make sense, but since I don't care, why is it doing this? This is the only app I know that behaves like this.
I want to know how I can stop this behavior, so that every time I open iChat there are NO chat windows open at all. Just because I talked to someone yesterday doesn't necessarily mean I'll talk to that person again today. I don't see anything in the preferences to control this, and I don't want to have to close all my windows before quitting; that's ridiculous. Ideas anyone?

In these Blank windows I take it they are listing some reference to the Buddies that were involved as you say those you may have spoken yesterday are not always going to be spoken today (Or something close to that.)
If not, does using Show Participants reveal any other info ?

Stop new incoming ichat message open a window in foreground

hi there
When iChat receives a new incoming message from a buddy it opens a new chat window in the foreground even if you are running an application in full screen like VMware, and even if you are running in a different Spaces window. Is there a way of stopping this behaviour?

Ichat doesnt open up

I click on ichat, it doesnt open. i go to ichat/prefreces/acounts and it only shows bonjour. No ichat and the + button wont even work either.

Run the following in Terminal and post the output, please.

IChat not opening

I seem to be having this problem whenever I open iChat. I have iChat set to automatically log into my AIM account whenever I open the program. The problem I am experiencing seems to be when I open it, I can see my buddy list begin to load, however, iChat immediatly closes down with no error message. Even when I get to the drop down menu to look at my preferences, as soon as I let go of the mouse to open the preferences, iChat still closes, with no warning, no approval window and no explanation as to why. PLEASE HELP! I do not want to have to use AOL Instant Messenger for MAC, I think it's a horrible program!!!
PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.3) Just purchased in August of 2005

I have the same problem with both Duel 1.8 G5 and 1.33 iBook G4
I called apple care and did the following to my G5
- removed preference files
-removed/reinsalled
-disk repair
-safe boot
-archive and install
Did not solve my problem.
On the iBook, I
- removed/reinstalled
-disk repair
-archive and install
It worked at this point.
I then did all the autoupdates... it now does not work.
I think my G5 and iBook stopped working when i first upgraded to 10.4.3 from 10.4.2.
Interesing is that in the system profileron the G5... iChat, before archive and install showed a last modified date around 11/8/05. It looks like the update came out on 10/31, not sure when I actally upgraded but I think there is a relationship here.
Anyone have any ideas?

IChat is opening with a blank window and greyed menu items after I did a full restore from time machine (OS 10.9)

I recently did a full restore of my system from a time machine backup. Now the only thing that doesn't work is iChat. It opens with grey menu items and when a window finally appears it is blank. I tried deleting preferences files and the message cache, and I tried refreshing the keychain but nothing works.
I'm using the mid-2013 MacBook Air with the latest OS.

OS X 10.9.x does not have iChat
It has Messages which can do all the thing iChat did (minus iChat Theater) but with new interface that tends to highlight the use of the iMessages account which was added at Mountain Lion (Messages 7.x)
Was the machine running OS X 10.9.x before the back up ?
Have you tried starting in Safe Mode ?
If this work then Restart normally.
This restore from a Backup, is it using the same Mac User account ?
(i.e. have you "migrated" some stuff to a new Mac User Account)

IChat wont open when i click it ?

I just got a macbook and im learning how to use everything, when i first downloaded all the programs onto the macbook ichat asked if i wanted to create an account but i clicked off it, ever since now when i try and click Ichat nothing happends, does anone know why? and how i can fix this?

In iChat when you use the Red Button to dismiss a window that is all it does. It does not Quit the application as some other apps do.
If you had set up iChat you would have a Buddy List and going to the Window Menu would have revealed the Keystrokes to bring any Buddy List back to View.
There are no Red Dismiss Buttons on the Start Up Screens

Potentially you do not have a Buddy List either, well not a Jabber or AIM one at least.
The Window Menu and Click and holding the iChat Icon in the Dock should at least reveal the Bonjour account as being Active.
Also as Defcom says you should see the iChat name in the Menu bar.
If the menu bar is there for iChat go to the iChat item > Preferences > Accounts and set up as this Alternative section says
You can choose to Display the Bonjour Buddy list or not (it will have no buddies if you have no other Macs with iChat Active)
